Free Download on Kindle Unlimited. Shield—half-white, half-Cheyenne warrior—hates all white men. But his hatred is challenged when he’s attacked by wild dogs and is rescued by a white widow and her two sons. Young widow Rebecca Reilly does her best to save the ranch she built with her late husband and still raise her sons. When the boys bring her a critically injured Indian, she wastes no time in caring for him. She and Shield come to trust one another, and Shield rethinks how he feels toward white people. When Clyde Foster arrives at Rebecca’s door with an offer to buy her ranch, she is suspicious. Her sons beg her not to sell; it is their late father’s legacy. Shield is falling in love with Rebecca, and he agrees that her ranch and her land are worth a battle. Rebecca has fallen for him, too, and now she has a strong man to stand with her. When Clyde Foster threatens harm to her sons, Rebecca vows to fight him, and Shield battles at her side. Clyde and his gang steal Rebecca’s cattle, but when they set fire to her barn, they discover Rebecca and Shield have new allies – Cheyenne warriors. As the battle ensues, shocking discoveries come to light which will alter Rebecca’s life forever.

Shield and Rebecca

This is a story of a handsome Cheyenne that was viciously attacked by wild dogs and a pretty widow with two teenage sons. The sons saved the Cheyenne’s life and bring him back to their ranch for their mother to save his life. While healing a slimy conman crook try’s to scare her to sell her ranch to him because he has discovered there is gold on it. You will enjoy the excitement and adventure that Susannah Calloway has put on each and every page. Discovering how Shield and Rebecca find their happily ever after is enjoyable as well.

Defending the Widow is a captivating Christian historical western romance, an installment of the Mail Order Brides of Colorado, penned by Susannah Calloway. In it, she chronicles the romantic journey of Rebeca Reily and Shield. She is a widow with two sons, striving to maintain her small ranch. He is a critically injured half-breed Indian. Her sons find him and bring him home for their mother to heal. Meanwhile, Clive Foster, and his gang, are determined to steal her ranch from her. As Shield mends, he is attracted to Rebecca. Her feelings are the same. Then Clive acts. Will he be successful? Can Shield, Rebecca, and her sons find happiness? To find out, you must read this book.
Ms. Calloway does it again. She masterfully uses literary devices like dialog, dual POV, and descriptive language to move her plot line along at a well paced speed. The characters are likeable. The dual POV allows readers to get a better understanding of the characters. I enjoyed this installment and am looking forward to reading other installments in this series. Nicely done, Ms. Calloway.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I Loved the story! It kept me captivated the through it all! But I have one question! There were 4 men but only 2 at the end! No mention of what happened to Sylvester and Fred! It only mentions Clyde and frank at the end! But it mentions how the 4 of them rode into the yard!

Short

Very short. And I just didn’t get how the fell in love. Things were so superficial between the two. I just did see it. There is a quick happy ending though.
