Read The Qur'an Through 100 Verses

Rate this book
The Qur'an is one of the most momentous texts in the history of mankind. One fifth of humanity professes it as the words of God Himself, and societies from the Atlantic coast of North Africa to the South Pacific take it as their spiritual, moral, political and legal compass. Yet despite its huge importance, only a tiny proportion of non-Muslims, and surprisingly few Muslims, have ever taken the time to actually read it. Several factors make the Qur'an a difficult read. The single most formidable obstacle, and the one that this book is intended to help the Qur'an reader to overcome, is its lack of a clear chronological or thematic structure, which new readers inevitably find confusing and unhelpful. 'Read the Qur'an Through 100 Verses' has been written to help the Qur'an reader navigate this complex text by listing one hundred Quranic themes, from the nature of God and His creation of the universe, through the Quran's retelling of biblical and non-biblical stories, the life of Mohammed and provisions of Sharia law and culminating in its foretelling of the Last Day, Judgement, and its graphic depictions of the Gardens of Paradise and the Hellfire. One key verse, normally the best known, is presented dealing with each topic, together with references to related verses and a brief commentary (from an objective historical perspective). This book is readable by itself, but with references to approximately a quarter of the verses of the Qur'an, presented according to their principal theme, 'Read the Qur'an...' is primarily written to assist the reader with it in one and and the Qur'an itself in the other, who sets out to discover what the Qur'an says for themselves.
