Azaran~ I was born a dragon rider. A member of the Brotherhood of Ormarr, son of Cadmar, and the eldest of four sons. I was raised to defend the innocent and protect the secret of the dragons, but when I was eighteen, my parents were brutally murdered and the training and care of my brothers fell to me. My entire adult life has been spent helping my brothers grow into the strong, brave dragon riders they were born to be. Now that the youngest of my brothers is close to adulthood, the last thing I need is someone else to worry about—someone else to be responsible for. If only the handsome doctor fate had chosen for my mate wasn’t so perfect for me.
Toby~ AlI I ever wanted was to help people, that’s why I became a doctor, but I quickly learned that modern medicine was more about the all-mighty dollar and less about saving lives. It wasn’t long before I was doubting my life choices. A vacation to the ocean was supposed to leave me refreshed and ready to get back to work, but instead, I found myself pulled into a world I never knew existed. A world where dragons are real, men fight like medieval warriors, and my soulmate has his very own bat cave. Azaran thinks the last thing he needs is a mate to worry about. Good thing I don’t need anyone to take care of me. My sexy dragon rider, on the other hand, needs someone to take care of him, and I think I’m just the man to do it.
Azaran is the first book in The Brotherhood of Ormarr series. While each book focuses on a different couple, the overall story arc continues in the next installment. For maximum enjoyment, we suggest reading in order. Azaran is a m/m romance, and is recommended for adults 18 years and older.
I'm watching a bit of GOT on the side and thought it would be nice to read a little dragon story, something simple for in between. It was nice, the story itself, the idea behind it, the magic behind it, even the characters introduced are interesting. But unfortunately this book was also very, very simple. I'm afraid this author and I don't go together. It was a pain to read through. I was hoping that there would be a nice wow towards the end to wrap it all up, but nope. It was pretty boring from start to finish. The plot doesn't give anything to work with, the tiny hints are nice, but they don't lead to anything. But the worst thing is unfortunately the writing. It's not bad at all. But it's soooo … I don't even know how to put it. It's like listing a shopping list? Things happen, the characters think about them, they repeat themselves, they hint that they have feelings, but I didn't feel anything. There's no emotion in it that's conveyed. The fights that take place last half a page because the fighters are so superior and don't even know why they're being attacked, after all, they're so great that there's no point ... That's more or less how the whole book is written, like a lecture, not a novel.
So, this is a series that is written by several authors and builds on each other. That's the only reason why I tortured myself to the end. I'm sure the next book will be better, right?

Not too bad but not too good either. My main issue is that the book had no flow, read like random scenes being dropped everywhere. Upside, I like all the brothers and dragons 🐉 and will continue the series but I’m in no rush.
~Each book has a different author...well this should be interesting.~
dnf@72% Two reasons I even got his far: I couldn't decide what else to read, and because at first I found the idea of the story (or some part of it) intriguing. Unfortunately I didn't like the execution at all.
It had such an intriguing blurb but it’s execution unfortunately fell flat.
Nothing worked for me here.. The writing was in 1st person which I disliked, the storyline was boring , the world building was incomplete with huge plot holes (to say the least)and all the characters were one dimensional.
Really and truly, the only saving grace for this book was that it was blessedly short.
Now I’m going to read the next book because it’s by another author so hopefully it’s much better than this was.
This first book in the ‘Brotherhood of Ormarr’ series is a great introduction to an alternate reality which is very similar to our world, except there are dragons, dragon riders, and the magic that makes them work together. It took me a while to get used to the “rules” and the politics of this world – but that is half the fun when reading fantasy and the slight initial mystery is a good thing as far as I am concerned. The story is told in alternating first person by Azaran, eldest of four dragon-riding brothers, and Toby, a medical doctor on vacation in the idyllic small town of Dargum’s Cove on the East Coast of the US. Their tale is entertaining, suspenseful, and has some interesting villains with an agenda of their own.
Azaran opens a new series about brothers that are dragon riders and the premise was fun. The men are not shifters and are bonded to a dragon that they can call forth from a tattoo on their arm. It’s something they were born into and their existence is mostly kept hidden, except from those that call upon them for search and rescue operations.
This book introduces all of the brothers, as well as their dragons, who have their own personalities and I enjoyed the on page time for the dragons as much as the brothers. The story focuses on the oldest brother, Azaran, and Toby, who is his mate. Toby just needed a vacation and while he knew he was looking for something, he never could have expected what waited for him. He had no idea that dragons existed, that there were dragon riders, and that one of them was his mate. The men are drawn to each other as fated mates are, but Toby doesn’t understand what is happening and Azaran is not ready to accept that he has found his mate, but the men have little choice as the pull toward each other is extreme.
Azaran is the first of the series of the dragon brotherhood. I really enjoyed this. This is surprisingly sweet and adorable! Toby and Azaran are really wonderful together. And you'll love Sidri, Azaran's little dragon! I read it in one sitting and really glad I found Azaran and Toby. Recommended!
Meh... this was an ok read. In all honestly I was bored shitless, but that has been my mood these days so it could just be me....
I felt that everything was just flat and monologued the whole time. I didn’t connect or feel the connection with any of the characters. In fact I felt more connection with a baby dragon that collected candy wrappers more than anyone else in the book.
There was also quite a few editing errors, for a series that appears to be a collaborator work between many authors you’d think it would have been proof read several times.
I did like the storyline of the dragon riders, it’s been awhile since I’ve read about a rider rather than a shifter.
I might pick up the next one since it’s a different author and since this one already got some of the world building and schematics out of the way.
Fated mates so a little insta-love. Azaran did the ‘I don’t want a mate’ thing and when he finally gave in Toby was a bit too forgiving.
I’d like a bit more darkness. Yes, they fought bad guys but the boys themselves are just too nice to be taken seriously.
Anyways each book in the series has a different author even though the characters and overall story arc remains the same so I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Well, I definitely need to finish this series. Holy crap am I hooked! I love the dragons. Especially in their littler forms. I can just picture them and it’s so stinkin cute. But seriously, I love the way this story is. Dragons and riders to protect people from harm. But of course, you have greedy morons who want power and everything for themselves, so they are fighting bad guys as well, trying to figure out who’s behind it all. The only problem in this for Azaran, is he didn’t figure a mate in the middle of all this. When their normal doctor was out of town, vacationing Toby overheard about a patient and volunteered to help. But he wasn’t prepared for the huge dragon that popped up out of nowhere. Scared at first, he went along, although there wasn’t much choice. But he said he’d help and he meant it. As a doctor, he vowed to save lives and he wouldn’t back down. But he wasn’t prepared for the little dragon that was loving on him or the avoidance of Azaran. He seemed to get along great with everyone else, but Azaran was avoiding him like the plague. But when it was time for him to run away, he physically hurt and it was time for Azaran to be truthful about everything. Toby seemed to take it all in stride, but someone out there was determined to come at them. And from the information being gathered, them directly and no one else. Now they have to figure out who’s trying to kill them. All these little baby dragons are killing me!! So CUTE! I mean yeah, they expand to become these fierce warriors who kick butt, but them being little just about knocked me over. The best. But I love the guys too. Since losing their parents, the bonds they have have just become stronger and stronger. I feel bad for Azaran for having to shoulder so many burdens at a young age and I don’t blame him for sometimes feeling resentful to a point. Not that he doesn’t love his family. Quite the opposite really. But he’s never had a moment just to let go and relax and just be. At least, until Toby came along. Toby is so good for him, if for no other reason, then for that one. Toby helps him relax and realize there’s more to life than just responsibilities. He lets him breathe and remember what fun is. And I love it. This is one heck of a start to this series. I’ve got to get the rest of these books and find out what happens. I’m a little attached to Eeli as well, so I want him to have a happy story and get what he desires.
Let there be dragons, and dragon riders and baby dragons. OMG loved this book and can't wait for the rest in this series. Azaran is the eldest and since his parents died, he has been taking care of his brothers. He has been training them as dragon warriors. All the brothers have a dragon of their own who are a part of them. When they are called upon, they are big beautiful dragons, when they are just chilling they are small dragons that just sound so very cute. Azaran doesn't have time for a life of his own as he is taking care of everyone. Toby is a medical doctor who has just about had enough of being a doctor in a big hospital because of all the red tape & hoops you have to jump through to get treatment for their patients. He is basically forced into taking a vacation. He so happens to end up in the same town as the brothers live near. When the youngest brother is injured, one of the other brothers goes into town to get the doctor to only find out that he is out of town. Toby steps forward and offers help. When Toby & Azaran see each other, Azaran knows that Toby is his mate but doesn't want him because he just can't take one more person to look after. Toby feels a connection but doesn't understand what is going on. Toby is pulled into a world of magic and finds a place where he can call home. I loved Azaran's dragon, she fell in love with Toby & when she gives him one of her treasures, it was the sweetest thing ever. There is also a conspiracy going on as someone is trying to get rid of the brothers & bring about chaos. I cannot wait for the next book as I need more.

Rating: 4 stars I had been eyeing this series for awhile and decided to give it a try. I found this to be a good start to this series. I liked both Azaran and Toby as the MCs. I thought they had great chemistry together. I liked that it took Azaran some time to get on board with his mating to Toby. It made sense in the context of the story and didn’t go on so long that it became tedious. I loved all of Azaran’s brothers and am looking forward to reading their stories. All in all, a really good book. Glad I decided to give this series a chance. I’m just hoping the other books in the series by other authors are just as good.
I love dragons but there just wasn't enough plot in this book to keep me entertained. It just sort of rambled along - it lacked character depth as well. Not interested in continuing this series.
I'm not normally a reader of fantasy but I was intrigued by the blurb and I'm so glad I picked this one.
There was great world building that drew me right into the lives of magic dragon riders Azaran and his brothers.
"Early on, our dragons had taken on traits that resembled us. I didn't want to think too much about what it said about me that my dragon was a red and black, fire breathing, surly grouch."
Dr Tobias (Toby) Wells is taking a vacation at Dargum's Cove. when Azaran and his brothers need the services of a doctor, it's Toby who steps up to help.
This story was full of fun and family with an underlying bit of mystery. It is a great introduction to the series. I really look forward to the brothers stories and seeing where their lives go from here.
Awesome start to the Brotherhood of Ormarr series! The world-building here is superb, the idea of the Brotherhood is fun and unique. Azaran and Toby do NOT get off on the right foot, as Azaran refuses to be responsible for another person.. even if that person is his mate. But he can’t deny the bond for too long, and he and Toby are so hot together once they both give in. I am really intrigued by all of the brothers and am excited to read their stories from the other authors involved in this world. And guys, dragons! Sindri and the other dragons are fantastic, they are definitely my favorite part of this series already. Can’t wait for the next!
Azaran is a dragon's rider. It's in his blood, his legacy. His father and his grand-father were dragon's riders and Azaran and his brothers are dragon's riders too. The last thing he wants was a mate. He doesn't want having another person in his life counting on him. He already raises his brothers since their parents'death when he was eighteen, he's already a member of the council and he knows he will have to be the next leader, chieftain, of the brotherhood, having a mate isn't something he needs. Tobias is a doctor tired of fighting against the system for doing his job. After losing his patience wih his bosses, Tobias is forced to take somes vacations time. He didn't expected to discover that Dragon are real, magic exist and that Azaran is his mate. I adored this book, It was a super good start in this series. The universe was well built and easy to understand. The MCs are awesome, all of them, they are unique in their own way. Azaran and Toby are hot and adorable, they complete each other perfectly. The plot was interesting. It puts the frame of the series and introduces each characters . It was well done. I was hooked in the book from the beginning and can't wait to read the next book.
A good start to a new series about dragon riders. I loved the overall concept about a group of four dragon-riding brothers who've been raised by the eldest since their parents were killed and I enjoyed the overall mystery surrounding this mysterious Order of Amsel, and I look forward to the other brothers' books and to answers to my burning questions.
I thought this particular book was oddly paced. Some stuff happened too slowly--for example, the set up took longer than expected given the 40K-word length of the novel, it took a few chapters for our MCs to meet, and Azaran spends too long ignoring his feelings for Toby--and others happened too fast--like Toby just accepting the existence of dragons without fearing for his life, and the pace of his relationship with Azaran once they got together. There were quite a few editing errors as well that pulled me out of the story.
Overall, I enjoyed it as a fun, quick read, and I did adore all of the characters and their dragons.
Wow! It flows smoothly and besides one thing that I wanted to know told a complete story! I will still recommend this series. I’m on to book 2 and I have high hopes for more great stories from the Ormarr brotherhood! Happy reading.
1.5 This was... pretty bad. I'll start with the good: the concept is quite intriguing and the idea of tiny dragons appealed to me. The execution is terrible, though. First, the whole thing was far too rushed. Everything that happened and got solved in the next couple pages, which killed any tension in the story. This also includes the descriptions and world building. We get barely any explanation of the magic that makes the dragons exist or how it operates or even exactly what they look like, beyond their colours. The overarching plot is too muddled and diffused to carry the story, so ultimately we're left with the most milquetoast of milquetoast romances. The characters are virtually indistinguishable from each other in terms of their voice and there is no chemistry at all between them. This also needed an editor, badly. There are some comma omissions that are not only annoying but confusing.
I was so stoked when this book came my way because, honestly, dragons are so cool. I didn't even read the blurb, I just saw dragons + authors I've liked before = book I must have. And loved it I have. It's all the coolness and adventure of fantasy mixed with the feel good feelings of contemporary romance. And I love a well thought of incorporation of magic in the universe in a way that seems believable, and the offer this group of authors came up with makes a lot of sense to me. By this point I already have the next book in the series in my ereader and can't wait to see what fate has in store for Zale
AZARAN was a quick read and I liked the concept of the dragon riders and the Brotherhood but unfortunately, the writing just wasn't very strong. It's pretty much all telling with little showing and the characters come across as very flat. There were definitely high points in the story itself - the cute mini dragons, the family dynamic - but overall, it was just an ok read. This is my second book by Jackie James and I think her writing is just not for me.
I couldn't put this one down! This story was well told, from insertion of back stories to the intrigue that will keep you guessing! Az & Toby are great characters, although at times I wanted to slap Az! The side characters really aren't so side, which I also loved! Looking forward to seeing how the rest if the series measures up.

While the romances in The Brotherhood of Ormarr series' are standalone, the overall plotline is not. So, I'm glad I started with the first one.
This story was nothing groundbreaking, but it was cute nonetheless. The 'world' was very interesting, and I really like the concept of the three different forms of dragons, a lot.
I enjoyed the world-building of the story, more than the actual story I think. As the writing wasn't my favorite. The smut was also not done very well, either.
IF YOU SEE THIS, PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR FEEDBACK ON MY NEW RATING AND REVIEW SYSTEM. IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD ADD, CHANGE OR REMOVE TO IMPROVE IT? PLEASE AND THANK YOU, LOVELY READERS.
*Writing is referring to how well the author writes. I mean no offense to the author by mentioning it, but it makes or breaks a book for me 100%. 1 = I couldn’t even get through the first five pages. 2 = Made it to 20-30% before it hurt too bad. 3 = Mostly finished or skipped to the end to finish because it's tolerable, but it wasn’t my favorite. 4 = Really good writing, character development, etc., couple things were weird but overlooked cause it was good enough. 5 = Perfect everything, obviously.
**Level of Smut is referring to how to tame vs explicit it is, which is why I went with this rating system. THIS IS NOT A RATING ON HOW MUCH I LIKED THE SMUT. Kissing and/or making out does not count as smut. Also, when I say ‘sex scene’, if someone has an orgasm, I’m considering it a sex scene; no matter how they get there. It doesn’t have to mean the actual act of intercourse. G (Score of 1) - No smut PG (2) - 1 sex scene books PG- 13 (3) - 2 sex scene books R (4)- Your standard 3 sex scene book. These generally aren’t as long of sex scenes or as descriptive. X-Rated (5) - all the good stuff is in here, baby, and a hell of a lot of it. This would also mean that the story is extremely descriptive, as well, and would have to include A LOT of sex for me to consider it X.
*** Quality of Smut is referring to how well the smut is written, according to my tastes. I have certain words and kinks, etc, that I am not a fan of and will automatically drop it down if I see it. That may not be the same case for you. I’ll try to include my reasoning if there’s anything specific. (A+ = 5 - E = 1)
**** Did it Make Me Sweat ;) ? Tbh, did it turn me on? Did I want to read more and more sex scenes (The answer is almost always yes)? This is different from quality because of the simple fact that the smut doesn’t ALWAYS have to be A+ quality to make me sweat… or does it??? I guess we’ll see.
