The Redemption Saga is an Urban Fantasy Reverse Harem series where the leading lady doesn’t choose between her love interests. This series contains possibly triggering content and is recommended for readers 18+
Kristen Banet has a Diet Coke problem and smokes too much. She curses like a sailor (though, she used to be one, so she uses that as an excuse) and finds that many people don’t know how to handle that. She loves to read, and before finally sitting to try her hand at writing, she had your normal kind of work history. From tattoo parlors, to the U.S. Navy, and freelance illustration, she’s stumbled through her adult years and somehow, is still kicking. She loves to read books that make people cry. She likes to write books that make people cry (and she wants to hear about it). She’s a firm believer that nothing and no one in this world is perfect, and she enjoys exploring those imperfections—trying to make the characters seem real on the page and not just in her head. She might just be crazy, though. Her characters think so, but this can’t be confirmed.
Pros: This is a fantastic story, in the depth of the characters, the world building, the plot and pacing. The various romances which develop are really well done, and blend well with the rest of the plot. Cons: the author seems to be allergic to the word 'said', and unfortunately only seems to have 3 available alternatives - 'chuckled', 'groaned' and 'whispered'. These are used regardless of the situation the character is in, chuckling when there's nothing funny happening or whispering in a room full of people. It's so repetitive that I very nearly had to stop reading altogether, because it totally distracts from the story.
I really enjoyed this series in the beginning, but Sawyer started to grate after a while. She could act very childish at times and her brash bravado could only go so far. The Little Lady was very annoying after a while also as it felt awkward.
This series is well worth the read, i enjoyed all of it and can only commend the author on how well written it is. Will continue to follow this author for future epics
Interesting plot, good mystery, detailed character development but I had some hangups I couldn't get past : First, there's a lot of smoking and it's just one of my pet peeves. I really tried to ignore it but it was detailed down to the brand of cigarettes and I couldn't look over it. I did also struggle with Sawyers experience of her trauma, past as an assassin and how she dealt with it. She was 16 when she met Alex and she said she didn't kill until she was 18. Now she's 24 and it's been 4 years since Shadow's presumed death. That leaves 2 years as an assassin. She killed 5 people in this time and then Liams father and the ghost at the end of the first book. She's been out of the business longer than she's been at it! I find the "seasoned killer" persona with pre-atrack knife sharpening rituals hard to believe. Also, she feels bad about killing people as an assassin but not about beating someone to death? I ended up being a bit fed up with her and didn't read on.
I have read thousands of paranormal romance and hundreds of reverse harem novels and this is by far one of the best RH paranormal novels I have read to date. One of the largest issues I have with RH is the amount of characters and their lack of distinction, which is why I tend to go for smaller group RH. This is not all the case for The Redemption Saga. Banet makes clear distinctions on each characters physical traits, their personalities and how they interact with not only Sawyer but with the rest of the team as well. Banet used to different ways to bring these differences up reoccuringly throughout the books so that you had more time to put the names to the faces and personalities. Another thing I really enjoyed about this book was that the interactions between Sawyer and each man was realistic. Banet found the perfect mixture of passion and romance, trepidation and excitement, and love and hate. She took many intricate ideas about each characters personalities and pasts and weaved them into the interactions between each characters. While all of these characters had their own issues many of them mental health, there was not once where what they said or what they did seemed unrealistic. This is also because she was able to space everything out to where you weren't rushing through major parts or specific details, you had time to learn and live the scenes. In many novels I have read, the antagonist(s) are not realistic either. They either have one that takes a long time to get caught or multiple that somehow pop up one right after the other. I love how Banet had one antagonist the entire novel, but shifted the focus away until you later learn that he was still behind the scenes. This to me made the antagonist not only believable but I also think it kept the book from wandering off in different directions. All in all one of the best books I have ever read.
The series start was excellent. The characters, the world building, and the story were all really great. I would have given book one a solid 4+ rating by itself.
The second book was also fine, if not an obvious plot, and continued to add depth and connection between the characters. 3 stars all around.
The series really goes massively downhill at book 4 and book 5. The situations were not believable and very convenient. The plot of 4 was especially hard to swallow. The characters started to get on my nerves, especially the FMC. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, not linked in a favorable light to the main characters was both stupid and corrupt. It was like the main characters were the only people on the planet of worth with a few others sprinkled here and there. Characters were killed specifically for the point of trying to make the reader cry (which I did not). Also, the books felt like a balloon slowly releasing air. Where was the excitement of the first book? Nowhere. Book 4 - 1.5 stars. Book 5 - 1 star.
The series would have excelled as more of a procedural, like books 1-3. A caper of the book. When the foolishness with Axel started again in book 4 it was both annoying and predictable. I kept asking myself, how is this the writer from book 1? The series is unnecessarily dragged out. Book 4 and 5 are mostly depressing filler where everyone (especially the FMC) has weird personality departures. I almost didn't finish this, and read 5 other books before finishing it.
There were a lot of other reasons that the series ended up self-destructing that speak to the writer's inability to leave well enough alone. If Banet wrote/writes stand alones, I'd be fully on board.
I really enjoyed this series. I felt like each character (particularly our main ones) were well fleshed out. I appreciated the baggage that each brought to their relationships, and how they all got through it together. I Loved the distinctive personalities of each member of the team, and how, even when the other men were agreeing to try something new, Vincent retained his stance on a few things. Their personalities never began to blend together in the interest of fitting Sawyer’s wants/needs. Yes, they changed/grew, but it was compromised that helped it to get there. I Loved that this actually had a plot line. And that, though it starts off as a slow burn, we do get to read about their sex, and it never became gratuitous. The plot and romance was always fairly well balanced. Even when they were taking things easy before, or during the case, there always remained an underlying tension that kept things interesting. I Loved Sawyer’s personality, watching her grow and change, watching her develop these relationships and learn to value herself. I also loved the relationship she had with Charlie and Liam. I also appreciated how different each of the relationships were from how they started, to how it grew and what it developed into. (I want to make sure I make a note for James, I really enjoyed his relationship with the team.) Finally, it was really nice having a completed series to get through, I always seem to find myself one or two books in to something new, and then sad when I have to wait months for the next. With this series, and Jackie Leon, this author is quickly becoming a new favorite.
3.5 stars (rounded up to 4 stars due to the inclusion of the Halloween short)
Really great series. Definitely more mature writing style and subject matter than a lot of the reverse harem books being written these days. The characterisation was really strong. I fell in love with 4 out of 5 of her men (Vincent was a bit too much angst for me) especially the erotic scenes with Zander and Elijah, which were sizzlingly hot. As other reviewers have mentioned, it needed a good deal more editing to sort out the missed words and misspellings. From a plot perspective I also felt that the final book was disappointing and was arguably not all that satisfying. It felt like a rehash of earlier plot lines and brought back a lot of the problems that had mostly been dealt with by book 3. I understand why the author decided to do things this way but I think the execution was a little off.
All in all, I'm really pleased with this series and I'll definitely be checking out more books from KB in future.
Reread: Going through my old favs, chose this for my next run-through. Hope it’s not a dnf, yes I dnf-ed an old favorite 🤦🏾♀️. Hoping this works out. Don’t remember Sawyer having only 9 fingers 🤔 Jasper Williams - 26, blond, blue eyes, “Phasing, air manipulation (common) dream walking, and illusions (uncommon) Zander Wade- 27, green eyes, red head “water manipulation, shielding, and healing (common) telepathic communication (uncommon) Elijah Grant -27, brown hair, “enchanting, fire manipulation, animation, and telekinesis (common) Vincent Castello- 27, Italian, “telekinesis, animal bonding (common), petrification, sublimation (rare) Sawyer Cambrie Matthews- 24, “Sublimation, cloaking, (rare) phasing, animal bonding (common), blinking (uncommon). Left ring finger missing Quinn Judge - 25, “Earth manipulation, animal bonding, naturalism, shape-shifting, and tracking (rare)”
This series has it all. The box set bled in from one book to the next until the very end. This is by far not a light and fast read. There’s topics you’ll come across that might be a trigger for some and at every emotional level from the very high go depressingly low. Then you add in a bit of comedic relief once in a while to keep you from going too under and hooked on to what happens next. Mix in that sizzling romance from the sweet romantic kind to the straight up feral rough kind that will have you melting and fanning yourself in the meantime. The ending I thought was definitely apropos to the series. I would definitely recommend this book.
I love themmmm and how much they love herrrr. It’s such a good series. I was really worried from the warnings that it would be too dark, but it really wasn’t and the nightmares/flashbacks were skimmable. It was dark, full of action and some gore, but it had interesting plot and good spicy scenes and a sweet slow burn romance between all of them. My biggest complaint is that I wish there were more scenes with Jasper, there was such a lead up from him being a virgin and basically saving himself for her and not wanting to be a part of a threesome, then his first and only time with Sawyer was rushed and a threesome. But other than that, it’s one of the best RH series I’ve read. I loved the epilogue, their HEA was so well earned and well done.
This was such an amazing series! I can see why it is so often recommended. Sawyers, her team, and the incredible relationships they build over the course of the series was so heartwarming. The quality of the writing was impeccable as was the editing. The world building was solid and the plot and pacing was incredible. There was so much suspense and action but it was so cleverly done the build up never became too overwhelming. In my opinion this was a super slow burn with only a low to medium steam factor but what steam was there was very well done. If you like a good RH with complex characters and plot the. You should definitely give this series a chance ❤️
I absolutely loved this series and highly recommended reading it. But please be careful with any potential triggers around abuse.
Having that said, this is not your typical RH. It's a very slow burn, where the story is about so much more that "just" the harem part. This is a story about survival of so many forms of abuse and mostly about never giving up, not for those who love you or for yourself. That no matter what life throws your way, with determination, support and love you can get through even the hardest parts that nobody should go through.
I honestly wasn't prepared for how much I loved this strong series!
The Redemption Saga Box Set contains 5 books and 1 short story and follows Sawyer as she tries to overcome and find redemption from her past as an assassin. I really enjoyed reading this series, it kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing what would happen next throughout. I enjoyed the slow burn nature of this book and how the relationships took work on both parts for them to work. I loved all the characters and a few surprised me as the books went on. I also loved how the plot weaved itself through the five books even though they seemed to have different focuses in different book and how it came full circle by the end of the series. Overall, I really enjoyed this series and would recommend giving it a read.
This series was amazing. It was great to have all the books together and read straight through. Sawyer is an outstanding main character and I’m so sad to leave her. Crying laughing and anger, emotions run the gamut. Her men are wonderful and Quinn, you either want to hug him for all his goodness or run screaming from the raw power. The others have flaws but with time age respect all of the team grows together. This a must read
In an interesting series that despite being a reverse harem builds slowly and focuses on relationships building. A warning there are references to trauma and rape. It happened in the past for Sawyer but does feature. It is normally something that would be a trigger for me to not continue with a series but it was very sensitively written so I continued. I felt there was some repetition in the series and the end was rushed.
What an amazing series! I loved reading it. There was so much character development, the subtle changes to our world with magic were so cool, and I was obsessed. Sawyer was complex and incredible to root for, and I think my favorite of the books was likely their journey to the Amazon, because WOW that battle plus Quinn and Sombra, that was just unbelievably amazing. Highly recommend!
Wow! I could just keep reading this story and not stop. There were highs and lows, but more highs then anything and boy was it hot! Would love to see this story as a t.v. show our movie, I'd be the biggest fan! So with the time to read, thanks Ms. Banet for the wonderful story.
I’d never read anything by this author before so I wasn’t sure what I’d be getting. I was totally blown away! I loved the Magi premise, the characters and the plot. All of the books were fantastic and I was happy with the ending.
While I read this on Kindle Unlimited I’m going to buy it and reread it. I highly recommend it!
I absolutely loved this series when it first came out, obviously enough that I read it again. It's a wonderful story with interesting characters and enough intrigue to keep you turning the pages. Definitely worth the read if you haven't already and if you have, I believe it's worth another! Happy Reading Everyone
One of the best series I’ve read! Very well written and edited. The characters are well developed and relatable. I found myself slowing down my read time as I neared the last book, because I didn’t want it to end!
I really enjoyed binge reading this box set. I loved all the characters and the story. This is a really great series and loved how it ended. I would definitely recommend this box set.
Super tough yet relatable heroine. The pain and bonding is realistic, though in a paranormal framework. I recommend this series for people who prefer gritty storylines.
The beginning of the series had me very confused, with the past being hinted at and the introduction of a lot of characters. I tho Ought the story was great overall, but was a little disappointed in the final.climax of the story.
Well written. If you like detective stories and epic crimes, this is a good read. Super slow burn, and at times the story dragged just a little- not a big deal. But for most of it I highly enjoyed it
So many words I can use to describe this series and yet they don't seem like enough. I fell in love with this series from page one. Definitely on my list of ones I would reread.
The character development is super, you are taken on a journey as Sawyer overcomes a grim start in life and takes back her power. Developing strong bonds with her men and pursuing her abuser.
This was really good, bit slow but I came to enjoy the pace. A rare book with character development for all of the main people. Bad guy was sufficiently evil and yet not one dimensional, all in all highly recommended!
