There grows in the woods of Dark Root a curious white rose, which only blooms in December. This famed rose is sought by all who know of it, saturated with Other-Worldly magick. An offering from one side of the Veil to the other, a symbol of beauty and love. --From the Grimoire of Juliana Benbridge *** It's Winter Solstice Days in Dark Root, and strange happenings abound. The Hellhounds that arrived with Samhain may still be lurking in the woods, people are forgetting things--as if under a spell, and June Bug has taken adolescent rebellion to an all new level. The only common thread appears to be Erin, the pretty, new waitress at Dip Stix. Determined to solve the riddle, Maggie once again turns to the Deciphering Stone and Juliana's scrolls. What she uncovers is a story with ancient roots, and modern relevance. In fact, what Maggie discovers might just be the most important discovery of her life. Magick. Mystery. Mysticism. Maggie.***WHAT TO READ NEXT?If you've read The Daughters of Dark Root series and The Children of Dark series, Alchemy of a Witch Series (The medieval prequel series where the Dark Root lore began).--Miss Sasha's School of Magick (Set a year after The Children of Dark Root. Awesome

I'm saddened that this series is over. I hope this story will continue in the future. A lot of people need to read this story because it's one they won't soon forget.

Well...

First of all, the editing is terrible. If reading disjoined sentences and spelling, and repetitive words where they're not supposed to be bothers you, go ahead and skip this book. It doesn't usually bother me, but it was pretty bad here. ALSO, I LOVE this series, therefore I am sorely disappointed in this book. It seemed as if there were huge chunks of the story missing.

** spoiler alert**

Maggie goes to battle the changeling and then the next page it's from Eve's perspective the next day? Zero information on what happened with Maggie and the changeling. What the hell?

The ONLY reason this got even three stars is because I am a fan of the story, not this book in particular. This was definitely a letdown. I'd love to read the next book tomorrow but if it took another month to make it less like this one? I'd be happy to wait. Great series, poor editing, disaster of a book about sums this up. I don't know what else to do than shake my head and move on until the next one comes out.

Welcome to Dark Root!

On the second installment of the Children of Dark Root, we go back to the town and the adventures around the Winter Solstice. The children are growing up and developing their gifts. It is great to see the adults too, but what I like about this series is having the children in the front of it.

Can we all agree Aunt Dora is a force to be reckon with? At this rate, we will need a book about her!

Exciting new chapter in the the Dark Root saga

I was so excited to read the next book in this series! I enjoy the characters and how developed they are. And the story keeps unfolding in a way that keeps me guessing and wanting more. Most of all I enjoy how the author incorporates actual myths, legends and witchcraft into the story. The strong female roles not only are witches but have their own unique talents. I can't wait for the next book!

Past Secrets

Another good chapter in this story and I do hope that there are more to come as the story definitely ended on a cliffhanger and there are many loose ends.

Proofreading was again subpar - this needs to be fixed.

Character growth is happening all around and I do like that the story is being told from multiple view points because i feel like we are getting the big picture.

Would recommend

Good but..,

I think this is end end for me. It's an okay book but it feels like the story is done or should be. There are definitely spots where it seems to just drag on and on, it jumps around from cover to cover. I throughly enjoyed the author's previous books but thus far the children of dark root series is canned. Itsjust not the quality of her previous books.

Enjoying the continuation of story

This story went in directions I did not predict but in the best of ways. Character development is moving right along and the children’s arc is so interesting. Can’t wait for next one.

Wish the next installment was available

I have loved all the Dark Root books and stories. The characters are well developed, but with mystery that is discovered over time. There is always something new to learn about all the loved and not so loved citizens of Dark Root.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next. There were so many moving parts in this one. The only thing I wish is the demon removal from June Bug would have been explained more. The development of the sisters and the children is great. April left enough doors open for thr next book.

Cannot get enough

April is a wonderful writer. She weaves her words so you are drawn into each series and have to finish each. I've read this one three times so far. I love the story.

As always...

I wish this book didn’t have to end, I’ve become so invested in these characters they almost feel like family. If your looking for a series to get lost in, or an escape from this awful world we currently live in you won’t regret starting these stories.

Magic and mischief

The children are all quite grown up despite the fact that they are all so young! Dark Root is even more mysterious than ever. April has written another enthralling tale that I can't get enough of! It is going to truly be hard to wait for the next installment.

The story of Dark Root and it's inhabitants continues, each day seemingly more dramatic than the last.
There is a lot going on in these peoples' lives, but there is an awful lot of love being shared to those lucky enough to be accepted into this extendible family.

I've enjoyed every Dark Root book so far and this is no exception.

Some familiar back story from the Dark Root Ancestry series and the children of the original Dark Root series witches coming into their own people.

Some great writing as always.

Incomplete

This is a continuation of the other Dark Root books. It flowed well and continued the story well until about half way through the book. There are many story lines continued or new lines started that are just dropped, the book is incomplete. Hopefully the next book (if there will be a next book) will provide some answers and continue the story.
