Light always comes after you have seen enough dark sides of life.
The Boon ~~ Mayur Sarda

1

Disclaimer ~~ Mayur Sarda is my friend. He did not ask me to read and critique his debut novel, The Boon. In fact, he was quite surprised I tracked it down and had it shipped from England to the States. But being that this is my friend's first novel, I wanted to support him.

A funny thing happened to me while reading The Boon, nearly one-third of the way into the book I felt my Guru, Babaji, talking to me thru the pages of Mayur Sarda's novel. There were specific events that happened to Anusha, the main character, that have happened to me. I was shocked to see these things on the published page.

The story concerns Anusha. She is extremely depressed over events in her life that she doesn't quite understand ~~ nor do her loved ones. She decides to end her life, but fate intervenes. She is given another chance at life by her Spiritual Guide ~~ but there is a catch. She must make a discovery about herself and her gift ~~ her boon ~~ and she has only 7 days to do so. As lead characters go, Anusha is not very likable ~~ but there are specific reasons for this ~~ Sarda has a trick up his sleeve.

1

Soon, we find ourselves at the Yukteshwar Ashram in Dharamshala where we meet the Timeless Guru, Raghav Shastri. Unbeknownst to Anusha, Shastri will lead her on a journey ~~ an inner journey ~~ that will open her mind to the infinite possibilities that exist for us all.

Raghav Shastri is a fascinating character. I wish we had more of his story in The Boon. There is so much to learn of him & from him. His time with his mother, his life as a disciple of Yukteshwar, and his transformation into the Timeless Guru. I suspect there is quite a bit of Mayur Sarda in Raghav Shastri. I would love to see an entire series built around Raghav Shastri.

1

I have two critiques for Mayur Sarda. 1) his engaging book could have used a bit of editing. Some sections were overwritten and could have been used some polishing. 2) I felt the ending was rushed. I would liked to have seen more time devoted to Anusha's reunion with her grandfather and the events leading up to the book's climax.

I have no doubt that overtime, that Mayur Sarda will develop into a well known & beloved novelist. I am so happy he discovered his boon.

Anusha is a young girl that is facing some really hard times on her life, due to a series of events.

In a last attempt to save her life, she has to fulfill her grandfather wish to retrieve the letters of her ancestors that are in a far away land, at a Temple.

This book makes you question the way that we run our lives and how we should be with others. It's a good reading that can be quickly done in a few days.

A unique, creative, entertaining as well as an inspiring story.
The fact that this is author,s first book is surprising.
He had put lot of efforts and creativity which can be seen.
I don't regret investing my time and little amount of money.
Give it a try and I hope you will not regret it either.

We only live once. We have often heard this saying but still most people take life for granted. They think committing suicide is the solution to all the problems and Anusha ,the protagonist of this novel actually take this drastic step when she decides to end her life to ease herself from all the pains and sufferings only to find herself back on Earth with a renewed vigor but a constant looming deadline as she is sent to fulfill a purpose in limited time.

Now in her newly found role Anusha set on a voyage and meet Raghav Shastri ,quite an amiable and spiritual personality at Dharmshala and continues her journey to find THE BOON. We readers through the course of the story are also gradually made aware why Anusha terminate her life at first place and are introduced to Siddharth, her lost love. And then after various crests and troughs, tale reaches its conclusion or should I say an abrupt end .

Author has done well in making us aware about the value of empathy. Also the flow of story is nice though in patches. There are instances where some segments are overly detailed which breaks the momentum and could have been easily avoided. Characterisation is pretty good. Anusha with all her flaws still comes out a nice being and readers feel sympathy for her. Raghav is very likeable for his composed demeanor. Cover is serene but writing skills needs more polishing. Though the efforts of author are clearly visible as he has seamlessly tried to mix various genres and still did reasonably well considering it is his debut work.

All in all a decent one time read.

Mayur Sarda’s debut novel is a wonderful book to pick up, both in terms of the joy of reading it as well as the impact it leaves on the readers. The story begins amidst a crisis—with the protagonist of the story, Anusha gearing up for a suicide attempt after succumbing to depression and anxiety. Anusha soon finds herself in her afterlife and she is told that since she had chosen death by her own and hence broken the cycle of life, she must relive her life with the same pains and sorrows once again. When Anusha pleads, she gets a second chance to rectify this fate of hers. She is allowed to come back to earth, but within a week she has to find her Boon. The Boon is the special ability every human soul gets gifted with while descending to the mortal realm, and some take lives after lives to realize and then utilize theirs.
Having no choice, Anusha agrees to this unusual contract and soon resumes her life back from where she had left off. This mystical episode seemed very original and well devised and it gave a plausible explanation to Anusha’s dilemma after death. We are soon informed that the cause of Anusha’s mental instability and hostility is majorly because of Siddharth. Siddharth and Anusha were in love and they had married secretively, because of parental disapproval of their relationship. But owing to several unprecedented turns in Sidharth’s personal life, he was forced to stay back in USA and had to call off the marriage, leaving Anusha back in India; helpless and inconsolable. Anusha is soon fitted with another groom, but that episode too ends in trauma and humiliation—as she herself witnesses Siddharth’s suicide and is forced to disclose her former relationship with her husband-to-be on that very same day.
With no strings attached and every hope aflame, Anusha is plunged into depression. After these vivid accounts of events, the author then sets off in paving the way to the main plotline of the story. Anusha’s Grandpa narrates the tale of his father, and how he had escaped from Pakistan in the face of communal riots and settled in India. Inflicted with mental heaviness and depression, he had been sent to an ashram in Dharamshala—the Yukteshwar ashram. Within a week, the man had completely healed and returned to his daily life. But the ashram had a clause—in order to transfer the spiritual learnings across generations, whoever visits the ashram had to write about his experiences and teachings in the form of 4 letters. These letters were to be collected by his next generation by again visiting the ashram. Anusha is thereby instructed to go to Dharamshala and collect the letters left behind by his great-grandfather. Thus, begins Anusha’s quest—not only to get hold of her letters, but also to find her Boon as the clock ticks. Anusha’s visit to Yukteshwar’s ashram turn into a full-fledged spiritual adventure, at the end of which she finds her boon and is able to leave the place without harbouring any burden or guilt from her turbulent past.
Through his writing, Mayur has successfully ingrained the story with values and lessons on life—through the eyes of the protagonist Anusha. The plot has been intricately weaved without leaving any loophole. Each of the segments of the story connect with each other without any hassle and create an atmosphere of mysticism and magical realism. Anusha’s portrayal of emotions is raw and realistic and her vulnerability and flaws are exposed layer by layer with each incident that comes her way. Even though the main storyline concerning Siddharth and Anusha’s failed marriage lurks all throughout under the surface of Mayur’s storytelling, many other episodes of Anusha’s past and her previous delusive decisions spring up—and aid further understanding of her character. Her quest to find the 4 letters carries an air of suspense and the journey to find the last letter sort of ties the whole story together and plays the role of the climax.
Although the book has many things to offer, it does have some areas which could have been improved. When Anusha revives from her near-to-success suicidal attempt, the tension and instability in her family is not highlighted at all. The relationships which are strained due to this fatal decision of hers are not shown in detail. To be precise, there seemed to be a huge gap between the episode of her suicide attempt and the one where she learns of the ashram from her grandfather. The philosophical discourses and moral lessons sometimes went on for pages at stretch, and slowed down the pace of the story. In the phase when Anusha is in the ashram, each chapter starts off almost in the same way, leading to an extent of predictability.
I will heartily recommend this book to everyone. Although this is the author’s debut work, he has proved himself to be extremely capable as a storyteller. Can’t wait to read more of his works!

“The Boon... Waiting to be discovered” is one of the most promising novels I’ve recently read, especially by a debutant author. Coming up with such deep ideas isn’t that simple and he deserves our attention for introducing a very relatable work of fiction.
〰️
〰️
The introduction of the protagonist Anusha Maheshwari is very unusual. In the first chapter titled “The End”, she gives up on life and commits suicide because of various traumatic episodes that occurred in her life. All the abstract range of thoughts that pre-occupied her mind before she decides to end her life is so beautifully presented that it leaves the readers in anticipation. Concepts like life after death and a spiritual guide giving us the opportunity to go back to the living realm is something we must have seen via pop culture, or read in other works of fiction. But what makes this book special? I feel the subtle nature of the book does. 〰️
〰️
The simple plot makes it easier to grasp the deeper philosophical and spiritual ideas of life. The author’s perceptions reflect the influence of Indian philosophical traditions on him. Righteous living, mastering the art of dealing with Maya(temptations), the liberation of the soul after death and most importantly finding the purpose of one’s life is very precisely talked about as a part of the main plot connecting these key philosophical concepts to the protagonist and the side characters.
We all have experienced the loss of our loved ones at some point of our lives. Some of them must have chosen to end their lives on their own. Maybe this is why I feel, that reading a book like this will help one adopt a positive approach towards life, understanding the meaning of life through these simple yet powerful words.
In the fictional world, an encounter with an advisor after death seems possible, but this is real life 😭. Let this book guide you spiritually and help you realise the purpose of your existence. 〰️
〰️
I loved reading and reviewing the book and highly recommend it to readers.
Happy reading peeps.

IN UNDERSTANDING OF THE DESIRE, DESIRE CEASES. - The Boon

Review for my best read for the month of may
THE BOON ... waiting to be discovered
The boon is the debut novel by @mayur_author .
The first question that comes to my mind after reading this beautiful story is DO I ALSO HAVE A BOON ? 😳

Blurb :
The story talks about Anusha Maheshwari who loses her battle against depression and takes her life by jumping off a bridge. The afterlife puts her into a delima wherein the spiritual guide sends her bak with a purpose to find her boon but with a deadline

My opinion:
☘The story is gratifying.
☘There are many people who thinks it's boring to read a book on life lessons but the way author has drop - shipped the whole idea is commendable.
☘The essence of the book are the letters present in it . To get these letters the characters have to perform some test
These tests are weaved exceptionally by the author.
☘End is astonishing which gives readers one more reason to love the book.
☘ Language is plain sailing.
☘The scenes are described with such intensity that we can visualize it effortlessly.
☘All the characters are developed beautifully and the writing has done justice to each.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL
MUST READ

The book revolve around Anusha Maheshwari who ends her life by jumping off a bridge. She apologize for her deed and wants to be back on earth. She is sent back with a condition that she has to find her boon. Its about Her journey to find her boon with her grandfather’s journey to fulfill his dreams. She is sent on a duty kind of thing to an ashram to read the letters left behind by Anusha's great grandfather. These letters lead her to new transformation and inspirations. In the meanwhile she realizes her boon.
The book is entertaining, and beautifully written. The beginning is awesome. The scenes moved more like a thriller. The main problem is that there is no actual story.
This book was although a good read💓

Many years ago I discovered what my purpose in life was, so I came and lived what I experienced as a child. I have worked for many years to achieve that purpose.

Do you know your purpose?

The book "The Boon: Waiting to be discovered" by Mayur Sarda tells the story of Anusha, a girl who had decided to succumb and received a second chance.

When you come into the world and create bad karma, you will simply live the same problem again, until you solve it. you can not escape.

Anusha understood it, discovered her purpose in life and experienced a second chance.

Excellent book to reflect on.

What happens if you are given a second shot at life, with a condition that you have 7 days to find your boon, which you have but are not aware of. And when the student is ready, the teacher appears. But the teacher can only show the path. The student must walk the path.

If the student walks the path, what happens? Does the boon reveal itself?

A fantastic book on self discovery, simple yet resonates. Touches upon concepts as a concise and free flowing tale, without lengthy sermons. A must read as per me.

The essence of the story and pebbles of wisdom stays within you even after you finished reading it.

The tricky situations which Anusha has to go through in the Ashram also prepare us on how to face such situations in our practical life.

Wonderful book describing the spirituality and the purpose to find a boon of our lives. when you travel with your soul you carry your past karma and desires which will not allow you to reach your destination in time. it will slow your speed but when you transform yourself into the light, you drop your baggage of karma and desires and thus become capable of moving with much speed.

Boon becomes a curse if one doesnt have any realization about it.

Call it mystical or mere coincidence, the right book(s) have reached my hands, when I needed the advice hidden within them, the most. I stepped on this book titled - “The Boon” by CA Mayur Sarda almost serendipitously. A story posted on Instagram, by an acquaintance showed the book cover. The title intrigued me and I looked it up on Amazon right away. I’ll be honest, I hadn’t even heard of Mayur until then.

Mayur confesses that he wouldn’t have been writing, was he not so deeply inspired by the acclaimed author - Priya Kumar (who’s books I have come to admire too). Inspiration drawn from Priya Kumar’s writing is evident in the book, yet Mayur maintains a distinctive style of his own.

Boon aka an innate blessing, that aides you in fulfilling your purpose behind being born, is one subject that’s apparently written about and discussed the most. Weaving a purposeful story around this seemingly easy (yet not at all easy) subject must have been quite a task in itself for Mayur (I assume). Nevertheless, Mayur surprises you with a plot filled with suspense & thrill.

Mayur’s narrative is simple to the extent that it makes you feel that you’re conversing with your friend, and not reading a book. Some dialogues are so commonplace that they give you a feeling of deja vu.

The straight out-of-the-book advice of living in the present, has almost turned into a cliché, more so because no one goes to explain why it’s more necessary than it is important. If you’ve felt the same way, this book - The Boon, definitely deserves a reading (or listening if I may say, just because the narrative makes you feel that the protagonist Anusha is speaking to you, and you’re listening to her enraptured).

There are plenty of beautiful lines in the book that are worth quoting, however one that struck home with me is - “Sometimes, people do not want any solution but just someone who would listen to their problems. At that time, if we provide then with solutions, it won’t help them anyway. These solutions will act as a pile-on to their problem and make it bigger. They are simply looking to release the pain which they have been carrying around from long”.

On this note, be a good listener and more importantly, be slow to judge; the world has enough critics already. Who knows, this noble trait turns out to be your Boon... waiting to be discovered.

As someone who does not read a lot of books based on spiritu- ality. I had not expected to like this book as much as I did, once I got into the story I could not put the book down I literally finished half of the book in just one day. Thank you so much to @ mayur7796 for sending me a copy of this amazing story !! The main character Anusha has an amazing character development throughout the story. Starting off from such a low point in life to ending up at a place where she is happy within herself it was really great to see that journey. I love the fact that the author did not add many unnecessary details and yet the story did not feel incomplete. There were a lot of twists in the story which were totally unexpected. The story was about Anusha finding her boon di lei, the purpose for which she is actually on Earth, and how she only has a limited number of days to find it. The ending of the book was totally unexpected for me, and I can say that I am thoroughly satisfied with the way the book ended. And one thing I can assure you is that the book left me in high spirits.

The boon by Mayur Sarda

People think that dying is easy, death is the end of all problems. However, they're often wrong. What they fail to realise is - 'death is never the solution for anything.' They end their lives abruptly on the pretext that they'll get freed from this cycle of life, birth & death. Hitherto, it's not that easy - people have to undergo the very same things in the new births which they did during their previous lives as well. It's the law of the universe.

"Souls experience blissfulness when they're detached from their earthly forms - physical bodies."

Our problems are probably even smaller than a speck of dirt when compared to the infinite universe.

"Forget about your past as it is gone from your domain & do not worry about the future as it is beyond your reach."

"There's no start or end to this universe. It has no beginning or end. Noone can find starting or end point. It's always there. It's perpetual."

The book is a simple onetime read. It's basically a nonfiction book presented in the form of a fictional story to appease the readers. There're lot of missing loopholes & gaps when the story takes transitions from one segment to another. There're many unreasonable unrealistic examples, experiences & situations given in the book which are totally implausible. The fact that the author tried connecting mythology, spiritualism, magic & many other aspects into a single fragment is what makes it difficult to read & thus leading to it's failure. Also, the climax & ending was abrupt. I felt quite unjustified by it. A good attempt. The book has the potential to be great. However, it lacks many good features.

"Desires are everlasting. The moment they're fulfilled, they diminish & fade away. New desires take place & it goes on from one age to another. Desires always come in the way of one's purpose. When we run behind desires, we'll definitely get distracted from our purpose. The choice is ours. Desires offer temporary pleasures but purpose will pave way for eternal bliss. Giving one direction to mind will lead to ultimate destination. But if mind gets distracted by temporary desires, it will only lead to misery. Focus on purpose & not desire."

'We should celebrate death instead of mourning over it. It disrespects the person who died nIt gives a new chance for the soul to live another beautiful life & get liberation from the cycle of birth & death. It's freeing of soul from the bondage of life. Death is nothing but a gateway to the next stage of life.

The story revolves around Anusha Maheshwari, who loses her battle against depression when she decides to take her life by jumping off a bridge. But, an unexpected meeting with the spiritual guide in her afterlife lands her back on Earth with a purpose of finding her boon. But what happens when her grandfather asks her to undertake a journey to an Ashram on his behalf? Follow Anusha as she embarks a journey to discover her boon.

REVIEW:
●It was a good experience reading a different insight of Afterlife where Anusha was able to interact with the spiritual guide and came face-to-face with someone unknow facts of reincarnation. The author has done quite a lot of research to present the facts to his readers in as simple way as possible.
●The author has also brought up some social issues of our society like the pain of a terrorist attack, remarriage, teenage mistakes, etc. The thing I like the most is how efficiently Author has presented the fine line between love and infactuation.
●The author has indeed tried his best to make a spiritual connection with his readers as he mentions the philosophical insights of things like responsibilities, life & death, silence, patience and most importantly the mirror of past and future.

Overall, the story unfolds with an adequate pace, hooking up the readers till the end with a twist that may blow off your minds. The character of Anusha keeps developing till the last chapter of the book which is quite intriguing. The book is definitely a motivational thriller which will not only motivate you to move ahead in your lives but, may also give you a solution of some of your unknown conflicts. The only thing that disturbed me a bit is the mis-matched font error.

RECOMENDATION:
Do try out this roller-coaster ride which will definitely inspire you in some or the other way- if you believe in spirituality.

‘’Miracle happen in this world only, and our existence in this world is miracle itself.” - Mayur Sarda's Mayur Sarda, The Boon
Not everyone gets a second chance at life. Think twice before taking your own life. Not everyone is lucky like Anusha Maheshwari to be sent back to earth to have another shot at deciphering her life and finding her boon within a deadline to continue her life.
This book talks about a special power: a boon that everyone poses and needs to find out to fulfill his/her karma. Realization of this boon will lead to one’s salvation.
So Anusha takes on a journey to the Yukteshwar ashram in the cold city of Dharamshala to fulfill her grand father’s purpose of getting his father’s letters and finding her boon.

This journey from Mumbai to an ashram in Dharamshala will let Anusha and the readers travel the multiverse and grow on the spiritual level leaving behind all the doubts and fear about oneself.

Will she find her boon well in time? What will be her boon?

I do not remember the last time that I had highlighted almost all the sentences of a book. Every other sentence imparted some wisdom and helped me learn and unlearn something.

Get on this journey of finding one’s boon with Anusha and you will not regret it once.

The boon!!!
A book by debutant author Mayur Sarda

Boon is an asset or a special quality.

Anusha Maheshwari ends her life by jumping off a bridge. Soon she realizes her mistake and pleads with her spiritual guru to send her back to earth. She is sent back with a condition that she has to find her boon. Her journey to find her boon gets intertwined with her grandfather’s journey to fulfill his life’s purpose. She is sent on a trip to an ashram to acquire and read 4 letters left behind by Anusha's great grandfather. These letters lead her to new learnings and inspirations. In the process she realizes her boon.

The book is entertaining, intriguing and enthralling. The beginning starts on an excellent note. Its towards the middle that I felt so much going on in the plot. The scenes moved more like a movie. Its the letters which are gems. Each letter has a different theme and leads to enlightenment for its readers. The author gives a different perspective about how one should deal with our past, current responsibilities, illusions and spiritual connections.

In all it’s a good read. This book has strokes of brilliance combined with a few episodes of weak plot. I would recommend book lovers to read the book at leisure.

A big applause for the debutant author.

The story is all about a girl Anusha who lost all her hopes on life and gave up on living, and then how the unexpected situations takes place with her after life and her experience at on purpose visit to Dharamshala and how it impacts on her life is what tickles in your stomach with excitement. Every page you turn will give you a astonishing experience with what situations Anusha going through. The depicted situations can be imagined visually while reading and can also feel the bliss that we may have not felt before, this book has got some magical essence of thinking beyond our thoughts and realise few things we haven’t before.
OVERALL, this book is one of the best fiction book and yet the inspirational one and a definite ‘page-turner.’ It was a best experience for me and I believe that it will also give the best experience and amused feeling to who ever read this wonderful tale of finding The BOON.
