In interesting history of both slavery and free Blacks in Revolutionary Connecticut. The author dug deep into the records throughout the state in an endeavor to idenitfy as many African Americans that served during the Revolutionary War. With scant records remaining after 200 years, he does a good job of describing conditions of Black Americans, both slave and free, and provided short histories on several notable men that served in the ranks alongside white soldiers. It's a short book, but still informative. For someone who grew up in COnnecticut, it revealed many things I had no idea of about the state I had lived in.
