If only they had committed to telling the original story… I feel like they didn’t rewrite much of the beginning. And that dark future showed a justification as to why someone might become a dictating ruler.
But it all changed halfway through. The fact that was some Savitar nonsense.
I didn’t like it nor do I understand why someone would want to create that much rage and grief
I have since learned why they chose who they did but it felt unplanned and shoehorned in.
There is an explanation that Waverider's presence changed the futures of those heroes he interacted with. (Which kind of makes the tie-ins obsolete...) Why then did they have him as the one he saw as a child?
I did like the various heroes showing up at the end, a lot more than Waverider tested. It was funny, I saw Huntress but only a few months earlier a Special was released to make her retirement definitive.
Anyway, I felt this ended rather abruptly. All the heroes accept that final blast was the end of Monarch and
All this is to say that while I enjoyed seeing some of the heroes potential futures, the overarching story fell flat. And time travel is still super confusing!
I would read the limited series that comes after this but they are not on DCI.
You can tell the villain was switched at the last minute. Most of this isn't logical. In Captain Atom's future, his whole family is murdered right in front of him and the cops just laugh at him. I mean, come on! Then he goes to the station house and the officer behind the desk is smoking pot. And this is only supposed to be 7 years in the future. It's just ridiculous. Also Hawk as a mastermind that kills all the heroes? That guy is dumb as a box of rocks I know they did a last minute change because it leaked that Monarch was going to be Captain Adam. The pivot to Hawk was a dumb one and only done because they were cancelling Hawk and Dove anyway. It's a shame it's such a dumb ending to what was a cool idea. Seeing each hero's possible future was a good one, at least at the time. Now it's been done so much, it's rote.
