Scythian Dawn #2

Warp Nomads

Rate this book
Boldly going where no barbarian has gone before!

The Dawn has left Earth far behind on a mission through hyperspace to attack a Warp Tether, a cosmic lighthouse which bends space to shorten interstellar travel times. Destroying it would put Earth out of the Jir Pentarchy's reach for years. It would also keep the Dawn from returning home, something many among them are eager to do. Even if it means mutiny.

A powerful improvement to Arixa's alien weapon, the ironglove, makes her deadlier than ever, but if she's forced to use it to keep control of her own war band, then her crusade against the Jir may be over before it begins. Instead of becoming a valuable source of recruits for a rebel horde, the 80,000 humans and aliens asleep in the holds of the Sagaris will die, or worse.

The Jir are not idle in the face of Arixa's threats. A fallen admiral commanding just five destroyers has been assigned to defend the Warp Tether. But his ambitious number two seems to have a more aggressive strategy in mind for catching the upstart Lessers.

The second battle of human vs. Jir will be fought with weapons ranging from arrows to warp-enabled warships, on foot among alien trees and in the majestic rings of a gas giant. Join Arixa and the Dawn as they take one giant leap from the steppe to the stars and become... WARP NOMADS.

A great read. Space Combat via Savages!

PK Lentz Keeps getting better at these ancient and futuristic Time overlays. I really like the way he has expanded Arixas character and given her a different dimension with the Leadership of a group of Shanghai-ed crew and others. It would be interesting to see how this further plays out with the Jir. Maybe give the spaceship an A.I. Personality to help with operations and war-fighting. Zhi is gonna go mental doing everything by herself! You guys should read this - I finished it in a night as I needed to see how the outcome would be presented- . Alas - we must wait for the next book!

Wow, just wow!

The first book was good, this second installment had my wife fussing at me to go to sleep several times. The characters and the constant action, twists and totally unexpected turns in the plots, several at the same time, had me completely sucked up. Every once in a while there is a story that stands out head and shoulders above all others, this is one of the few I have read and lived along the war band fighting their oppressors! I highly recommend!

Excellent book! Fast paced, suspenseful, decent characterization; overall, way above average for the genre. This is the fourth book of PK Lentz's that I have read, and they are all good. He is my favorite new SF author.

T enjoyed both books 1&2

Ivar and the fugitives from Nemoora fight to survive on a hostile alien moon while Arixa establishes camp on a new world and plots their rescue can't wait for the next episode.

IDK what

I really enjoyed the first book, but this one was messed up on so many levels. The heroine turns into a selfish cruel crazy woman. The aliens make sense and abhorrent killings for nothing. Her war band turns on her for no reason. IDk

Less fun than book one. But good.

Definitely more plodding than book one, but keeps the timeline going and leaves a nice cliffhanger as an ending. Lotta people die... up close and personal. Leaves you with a need to find out what’s next.

Arixa, Ivar, Phoris, Fizzbik, Leimya, Zhi

Arixa struggles to keep Zhi, her pilot, onboard with her plans to attack the Jir and protect Earth. Part of the Dawn are with Ivar, and separated from the rest of her war band.

Characterization and plotting are excellent.

If P.K. Lentz was a car dealer, he would definitely sell Ferraris. There fast, exciting and well made, just like he's books.

A good series

Easy read with good characters and lots of action. I have a problem with a war chief calling her warriors her darlings but no book is perfect.

Enjoyed

I found the story a great read and it kept me waiting for the next shoe to drop. The author has found his own personal world 🌎.

I found I no longer cared or wanted to read more about the main character. Won't continue the series.
