The Five Orders #1

Prophecy Girl

Rate this book
And just like that, Calan lost his powers and his heart.

Calan lives and breathes the law of the Order of Luxis, never distracted by the modern world or its temptations. That is until his mission to destroy an unholy dark entity brings him to Emma, a beautiful store clerk with penetrating eyes. With one look, she makes Calan question everything which may lead to, not only his undoing, it may be the worlds.

Now Emma is entangled in a Prophecy that could unleash hell on earth and she refuses to sit on the sidelines or keep her hands off Calan. In between fighting his new and all-consuming desire for Emma, Calan must protect her from his enemies, blood-thirsty creatures from a hell dimension, but above all he must save her from himself. If Emma ever discovered Calan was the true monster, she would never have so readily stayed by his side and she certainly wouldn’t continue to look at him like she wanted to eat him alive.

Main Characters:
Calan & Emma

Subpar Summary:

Thoughts:
This book was a struggle for me to get through honestly. Calan's character is so clueless throughout the entire book and is just learning how manipulated he has been. I think if we'd had duel POV between him and Emma this book would have been significantly better because, as a reader, we can understand Emma's stance a little better given that she's been exposed to the regular world. My other complaint would be the pacing. Things happen....weirdly. None of it feels like a natural progression to me. It's definitely insta-love and I'm willing to accept that he and Emma's bond is probably why their relationship is turned up to 100, but it just didn't feel organic to me. I LOVED Vegas Immortals DatLV so I'm going to give book 2 a shot. I noticed the rest of the series is rated much higher than this initial book so hopefully my dumb complaints will be resolved.

Series Overall: 2.2/5

This paranormal romance has made the top of my recommended reading list.

Besides the red-hot love scenes, the characters maintain a complexity and realness that is unique for this genre. I really couldn't put the story down. The fast-paced, action-packed story took turn after turn and the bright descriptions were impossible not to get lost in.

I'm already hungrily awaiting the next installation of this series.

OK, how can you not fall in love with Emma though? I was not expecting the twist with her storyline, but all the better. Well done, Miss Holly :)

Very Well Done! ** NO SPOILERS **

The MMC is Calan he’s a Chevalier for The Order of Luxis a religious sect that believes that only the Propheros can save the world and usher in a new era.
Calan has only one focus in life to serve The Light; protecting innocents from the Stygian (Darkness).

A thousand year old prophecy told of a great threat to the world, would you save the world or save the Chosen One? Or maybe, just maybe it’s possible to do both?

This is a fascinating story about the connections between people, faith/ belief and the age old favourite defeating evil and finding your HEA.

It’s exceptionally well written *snort* of course it is, I’ve read a lot of this author’s books and they are always well worth reading. The MMC Calan is a book boyfriend of legend, honest, loyal and oh so easy on the eyes. The FMC Emma is an average all American 20 something trying to find her way in the world. She devours books with a passion and doesn’t have the most active social life but definitely has a strong sense of right and wrong. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, but now book 2 is calling me.

Prophecy Girl has everything I could want in a single story: suspense, romance, morbid darkness, existential crises, action, steamy lust, true wisdom, humor. At any given time, I was crawling out of my skin at the perfectly terrifying demonic creatures, screaming out loud about unforeseen (almost infuriating) plot twists, or looking around to make sure no one could see me blushing...

I LOVE the mystery of the story. Where does this guy come from? Why don’t his powers work? I need answers!!! Luckily, the story moves quickly (or I couldn’t put it down...unsure). Also pretty sure I would strangle the stupid idiot, Travis.

I personally appreciate the unexpected themes around faith, trust, fear, etc. The author, Holly Roberds, weaved gems of truth throughout the story that gave me genuine pause like, “I should not separate myself from others with judgment, that is how I separated from the Light.” Or, “if you could direct your own beliefs, you could completely control your power.”

Highly recommend!

Different than what I was expecting.
I found the whole plot and world to be very intriguing, especially with regard to the whole concept of the Five Orders and Calan’s role with them. The progression of learning both the truth and lies within each Order left me wanting to learn more about this world. The only concerns I had were few. I thought Emma came off as strong or attempting to be strong and brave initially but along the way she became weak. Her character faltered and fell out of place for me. Calan obviously was naive due to his situation and I get that he needed to have a realization before coming to grip with things. It just seemed to take forever. I liked the twist with Travis.
The ending totally shocked me though and I can’t wait for the next book!

Having read One Savage Knight (which was brilliant by the way), I felt compelled to read where it all started. So I picked up Prophecy Girl and I was not disappointed. Glued from start to finish this is a great paranormal read from Holly Roberds. Great story about the hero who is destined to protect the saviour of the world - Travis, who just happens to be a bit of a whiny nerd. But a young female, Emma gets caught up in the struggle to prevent evil demons taking over the world and he just happens to be very attracted to her but this is forbidden for Calan as a Knight of one of the Five Orders. Great story, plenty nail-biting action with a few surprises, magic, lies, betrayal and an HEA. Away to binge read the rest of the series.

This book is outside my normal genre of reading but was recommended by one of the authors I follow. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I first started reading it with all the paranormal activity going on, but I fell in love with the book and the characters right away! Calan is an amazing warrior with a heart of gold even though he doesn't see it. Emma doesn't realize the strength that she has and can see goodness in Calan that he can't see in himself. Calan is a protector and Emma is the Prospheros. Calan feels the bond and pull of Emma and will do anything and everything in his power to protect her from the evil around them.

So this book was not what I expected. First, it is all from Calan’s POV. Second, contrary to the view on the cover, he is not a typical alpha male. Calan is basically lost and brainwashed. I am used to the male savior, most of the time, so I was kinda floundering with this book, yet I kept going.
Emma is almost completely unknown as the FMC. This book seemed dedicated to Calan and how he came to be, with little input from Emma. I honestly kept waiting for it to switch POV, so it would have been helpful to know up front...maybe in the beginning?
I know the second book is from Emma’s POV, and I like the author, so I am going to keep reading this series.

Holly Roberts has written an amazing fast-paced tale that flows like the best storytellers. The main characters are funny, tough and sweet at the same time. It’s sweet to watch the chemistry develop between Emma and Calan. Travis is great comic relief from the action and suspense of the dark forces. I enjoyed this novel so much and finished it in one day. I look forward to more from Holly Roberts in the future. I highly recommend this 5++ book! Calan has been raised knowing he needs to redeem his past life in order to attain his soul back. In the plight to redeem himself, he meets Emma. Emma stirs things in him he’s never felt before. Together, they embark on a journey to rid the world of the darkness.
Opinion
Wow! This book has been on my shelf for a while and after reading it, I have to ask myself why I waited so long to read it.
Ms. Roberds writing style grabs you from the start and takes you on a roller coaster ride throughout the story. I truly loved this story and can’t wait to read book two.

I started this series with A Touch of Hell and liked it so much had to get the other books which were free. The opinions and views are my own. The Prophecy Girl was a good read, funny yet sometimes scary. Love Calan and Emma. Really dislike the Order of Luxis and the Order of Veritas is not much better. The Chevalier must protect the Propheros and the Propheros is to protect all mankind from the dark. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it. Love the references to movies and romance books.

This fascinating brilliantly written paranormal is the first book I have read by this author and I absolutely loved it. This author's work is so creative and exciting. She gives us a beautiful romance with so much fast-paced action. Her characters as well as the paranormal creatures are so well developed. It is a story of how Calan finds everything he was taught was wrong and he has to learn to trust and believe in himself and trust and be able to protect Emma. I look forward to reading more in this series.

This was a great read. It has a great storyline and a great flow to it. The characters had great chemistry and were really likeable. It was full of action, adventure, and suspense....not to mention that steamy action fogged up my ereader. The author did an amazing job with this book, and I'll be on the lookout for more from her.

I was eager to dive into the Prophecy Girl book 1 in The Five Order series by Holly Roberds as I'm a lover of paranormal and fantasy romance. I found the plot unique, and intriguing not what I imagined at all. I enjoyed all the characters, and the writing was strong, which sucked me into the writer's imaginary world full of monsters like the Crib, She, and of course, my personal favorite, the soul catcher. I will be checking out the rest of the series for sure.

Prophecy Girl is a fast paced, exciting novel that left me wanting more! Emma, Calan, and Travis are complex characters, and following them on their journey in the book was super satisfying. I'm excited to learn more about them (and the other Orders!) in Souless Son and other Five Orders books. This is a perfect book for vacation- full of action and romance!

2.5 Action Stars!

An okay, I think I was expecting a bit more, but even with all the action, I was a bit bored the whole book, especially the first half. He was a bit too naive for me, though sometimes it was funny, and she came on too strong, and I was never able to really connect with her. Overall, decent book, but won't be continuing the series.

Received an ARC from Voracious readers

I tried my best to get into this book. I've set it down and picked it back up a few times. I can't seem to really get into the story to enjoy it, I've skimmed and the book just really hasn't called out to me. Reading the synopsis, I was so looking forward to reading this book.

A really good fantasy novel about a man, who protects humans from demons, finding the chosen one that will save the world and must protect him at all costs. He must also protect a woman who is caught up by accident as a deman catches her scent. There's romance, friendship, betrayal, lies and magic.

Voracious Readers review : This book was crazy hot and all over the place, in a good way. I am always a sucker for the us against the world mentality when it comes to couples, especially when they choose each other in the end. The only thing I wish for was that it made thee female more warrior than martyr. All in all a good book.

DNF @ 25%

The concept behind this one is interesting but it started to drag for me. Additionally, it's told completely from the MMC's POV and he's been so sheltered by the Order and kept isolated from everything that he comes across as really young and naive. It's not lining up with the idea that he's this great warrior.

It is an interesting start to a series that is hard to describe. It takes awhile to get into the main characters, but there is plenty of action throughout the story.
I liked the fact that the female lead was written as a powerfull figure.

A gripping, page-turning read! I absolutely loved the main characters and the chemistry between them is smokiin' hot! But it's so much more than a romance with twists and action, beautiful writing and intricate world-building. I can't wait for book two! Definitely recommend for paranormal readers!
