Hi Goodreads!
I'm Jen Calonita, a MG and YA author who loves what I do because it lets me connect with all of you (and no, I wasn't intending for that to rhyme!).

I've been writing ever since I can remember, but it was fourth grade when I put my "three wishes" for a genie down on paper. They were:
#1. Buy all the Cabbage Patch Kids in the world and give them away for free (because apparently that was how I rolled).
#2. I wanted a mansion, limo, lake house, pool and speed boat (still sounds quite nice).
#3. I wanted to be an author for young readers, which I am!

I love writing novels for teens (and for savvy grown ups who know that YA rocks at any age). My first series was "Secrets of My Hollywood Life" and it followed a teen star named Kaitlin Burke who struggled with the fame game. I have also written the stand-alone novels Sleepaway Girls, it's companion book, Summer State of Mind and the Belles series.

I've been writing middle grade too and am having so much fun with my series Fairy Tale Reform School! The fourth book in this series about a school run by former villains is called Tricked and will be out March 2018. Ever wonder what it would be like if your parents got a job with someone like Taylpr Swift? My other middle grade series, VIP, follows super fan Mackenzie Lowell as she tours with her favorite band, Perfect Storm.

I promise to give book updates here, and on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or my website. I hope I hear from you!

This was the best one yet and my favorite! Gilly grew so much in this book. I loved reading as she struggled to choose between her sister and Enchantasia. In the end it all worked out. Well done, Jen Calonita!

P. S. I think there needs to be a spinoff series about Gilly and Jax when they are older😉

AHHHHHHHH!!!! I started crying when I thought Jax was dead! And his paper was so sweet! He already knows who his queen will beeeeeeeeee. I was a little sad there was no kissing or confessions of love between Jax and Gilly, but other than that, it was awesome!

This was definitely the best one of the series.

AND JEN! HOW COULD YOU LEAVE US HANGING ON THE HINTING THAT JAX AND GILLY ARE GONNA BE A "THING" THING??

I'm praying for a second series with these characters, maybe when they're all a few years older?

Cursed is the last book in the Fairy Tale Reform School series, and it makes for a satisfying ending. Gilly Cobbler and her friends are trying to save all of Enchantasia from Rumplestiltskin. They meet new characters along the way, including Gilly's elusive grandmother, all while Gilly is still grappling with the betrayal of her sister, Anna. Like the other books, this one is action packed and filled of interesting takes of our beloved fairy tale characters.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

My favorite part in this book is when Gillian reads Jax's Paper "I guess I'll just need a queen. And maybe, just maybe, I already have one in mind." Best part in the whole series!

I love this entire series so much!!! In my opinion, it is the 100% perfect book series and I would not have it any other way at all. Very well written with an amazing plot, fun characters that I feel very close to as the reader, and a story that never gets old. Gilly is the best narrator I could ever ask for in a book and I get a little sad when I read a book that isn't narrated by Gilly 😂. Cursed was an incredible way to seal up this incredible series, and while I am sad that the adventure is over, I am sure glad it was an adventure I got to go on!

WOW! This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Gilly and her group friends must stop Alva and Rumplstiltskin before they cast a curse on all of Enchantasia. Full of action and adventure, this is a thrilling conclusion to the Fairy Tale Reform School Series. I would highly recommend!!

I am so sad that this series is over!!!! I really enjoyed this book in particular. Gilly and her friends sail to a far away island to find Gillys grandma who they learn is part fairy. Gilly must learn how to use her fairy powers but is having a hard time. Meanwhile Rumpelstiltskin, Alva and the stiltskin squad are working on the spell to take over Enchancia. Angelina (the fairy in charge of writing Rumpelstiltskin villain story) learns that Gilly and the rest of her family are somehow part of the curse. It is up to Gilly and her friends to save Enchancia and maybe just maybe help Anna (Gillys sister) turn away from the dark side.

This is such a great ending to the FTRS series. (SPOILER WARNING) All the plot twists......and Jax almost dying.......and Anna turning nice (yayay!).......and it turns out Alva never actually loved Rumpelstiltskin.........and Gilly having fairy blood - I could go on and on and on. I'm sad the series is over but this was a great conclusion.

Cursed is the end of Fairy Tale Reform School series! 😭 I loved every book in this series and each had an amazing plot line. The stories kept evolving through each book with new twists and turns in each. A very happy ending to a great juvenile fantasy series. Here's hoping Jacks and Jilly become something. I loved the ending with their hopes and dreams of what they'd become. Also, I saw another series, Royal Academy, that looks like a crossover!

Cursed is the sixth book in the Fairy Tale Reform School series by Jen Calonita and is currently scheduled for release on May 1 2020. I do recommend reading the series in order to understand what is going on and the relationship details. In fact, having read the previous books and the two books in the spin off series, it took me a bit to remember important details and figure out where we had left off.

The evil Rumplestiltskin is planning to cast a curse that will erase Enchantasia as the world knows it, and a fairy prophecy declares that Gilly Cobbler will play a key role. Never one to shy away from adventure, Gilly and her friends embark on an epic, swashbuckling journey to stop Stiltskin from getting the ingredients he needs before it's too late. Gilly can't help but wonder if it's already too late for her beloved sister, Anna, who's still a member of the villainous Stiltskin Squad, and will seemingly stop at nothing to thwart Gilly and her crew. Only by harnessing the skills she may have inherited from her fairy grandmother can Gilly stop Stiltskin and reunite her family. But with time running out and her fairy skills lying dormant, does Gilly have what it takes to prevent the evil curse and ensure a happily-ever-after for the Cobblers? Or will she lose Enchantasia and her friends forever?

Cursed brings readers back into the story right in the middle of the action, and there is a great deal at stake. I have to admit that it took me a bit to remember who everyone was and if characters from the cross over series made appearances and where everything stood. But, I did figure it all out and was able to follow the action. Gilly is still trying to figure out her place and what she wants, and still is struggling to let people help her and themselves. The action is almost constant in this installment, which keeps the story moving along. However, it also made the character's actions and decisions feel much more reactionary and less thought out. There was little discussion, thinking things through, and character growth than in the previous books- at least in my opinion. I think fans of the series will want to read the book to see how the larger storyline with Stiliskin and Anna conclude, and I am glad that I read it for that reason. The conclusion was well done, and at wrapped things up nicely, but I was somehow expecting more from the book as a whole. It was good, but perhaps my expectations were sky high because of how much I enjoyed the start of the series, but it was not all I had hoped.

Cursed is a good wrap up to a series, and I think those that are fans of the author will need to read it.

This series is AMAZING! I was so sad when I found out that this was the last book in the series, but I have to say it was tied up nicely. I still want to know if Jax and Gilly end up as a couple or not, because it would be awesome if they do, but I love that it was hinted at in Jax's essay. "I guess I'll just need a queen. And maybe, just maybe I already have one in mind." I smiled when I read this and my heart jumped at the acknowledgement of the possibility that Jax and Gilly could be a couple. Also props to Jen Calonita for THE BEST way to hint at a couple in a friend group. It was also amazing how (Extra spoiler alert) for a small time Jax was almost dead. I was like "NO! They can't kill Jax!!" but I was overjoyed when he just showed up on a beanstalk. Also Gilly saying that she was only worried about Jax because he had her brothers, and how she said "Jax may be my closest friend and that's all there is to it. For now," is so cute! I love that scene so much, and I think that's part of the reason why I think the series was tied up so nicely. Ok enough about Jax and Gilly, time to move on...

I love how the Fairy Tale Reform School and Royal Academy Rebels series are slightly intertwined in ways that if you haven't read one series you won't be confused, but if you are keeping up with both you get a reference, and it makes you (Or at least this happened for me) so happy. Also the fact that both stories are happening at the same time, not just one happens after the other, is amazing. I think I might also have a weak spot for crossovers though.

Overall this book had a nice way to tie up the series, and it had such a large concept to stop (I think erasing an entire kingdom like Enchantasia and all of it's history, is a lot on the line.), it was fit for a sixth book. I wish it would have been longer, but it was told well and the pacing was great, and it moved fast, but it was still a well written story, that was told well. I also wish we could see what the finished FTRS school is like, but hopefully we can see that in RAR.

I would recommend this series to everybody, but especially middle grade readers. I love it all so much, and I think I will be forever indebted to Scholastic Book Fairs for bringing this book into my life.

I think this I the best end to a series I have ever read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved the story the the plot the characters and I loved how all the main characters talked about what they wanted to be in five years! I loved how they mentioned Jax and Gilly as a couple but they also didn’t get together.... Yet. Because they are only like 13 this would probably be weird but it was so cute when he said “eventually I might need a Queen and I think I have one in mind”!!! Awwwwwwwwwwwww!!! Favorite book all year!! It’s going to be hard to find a book that lives up to this one next!!

AMAZING BOOK!!!
This book was a lot of fun and excitement and I def agree with Jordan, their needs to be another book about when they are all teenagers to young adults focusing around Gilly and Jax! Also when I thought that you know who was dead I was really upset, because He is my favourite character! I loved the book so much, and I am so glad that you made this.
Also I hope you all have a great day/night!

*4.5- This book was so good! I started this series years ago so to read the final book was bittersweet, but I was also ready. I often found that I forgot about this series only to think about it again just when I needed a light, quick read. I continued to love these characters throughout the entirety of the series. I think that Gilly is strong, and I appreciate how crafty she is. I also love the friendship unit. I think that this group just goes so well together, and I love to see how they work together during their adventures. I do wish that there had been a bit more romance between two characters, but I understand why there wasn't. I thought that the plot was pretty good. I was definitely intrigued by the curse and how our heroes were going to stop it from happening. I also really liked the little nods that the author gave to the beginning of the series. There were a few details from the first book that I appreciated seeing mentioned again. I do think that there was a lot of self-promotion for her new connected series which wasn't completely necessary. The ending was solid, but it didn't blow me away. The reason that this book isn't getting a five out of five is that it did come off as a younger book. The characters and the storyline weren't that complex. The author could have gone deeper, but she didn't. There just wasn't enough there for me to ever really feel anything for this book. However, this book didn't come off as juvenile. It sounds like younger and juvenile would be the same thing, but let me assure you that they aren't. I never rolled my eyes while reading this book, and I did enjoy reading it. There was no cursing and no sexual content in this book. There was some violence, but I would consider it, at most, moderate. This book is definitely best suited for a middle-grade audience. I think that younger readers would enjoy it more than older readers, however, I still enjoyed reading it. I do recommend this series. I think that it's a lot of fun! This series is also always there to provide a light and quick read whenever you need it. I enjoyed my time with this series, and I may seek out more from Jen Calonita in the future.

Amazing Read

This was an incredible read. This is the sixth and final book of the Fairy Tale Reform School series. In this book, Rumpelstiltskin is trying to erase Enchantasia from existence. It is up to Gilly and her friends and teachers at the FTRS to stop him from gathering all the ingredients he needs to activate the spell/curse. I thought the characters were amazing and relatable. I loved Gilly. She was an interesting character. I really liked how she was characterized as a person who gave everything to her family. I love how Rumpelstiltskin is the villain again in this story. Also, it is amazing that so many different fairy tales are introduced during the series. I grew up with these fairy tales as I think almost everyone did, but to see how Jen Calonita brought our favourite characters and made a series of them all together. Also when I read this book, I thought of the movie series, Descendants, which is about mischievous villains' kids getting a second chance to be good. I thought the ending was great. I am glad that I found this series. I cannot believe it is over. I know it is for Middle Grade kids, but I have to say this series was fun and enjoyable. I give the series a 4.33/5. It was great to relive the fairy tales I grew up when I was little in a book version of Once Upon A Time TV show, where all the characters live together. Overall, an amazing read.

First I am so sad this is the last book in this series. I really have loved it. I love Gilly Cobbler and her friends and really enjoyed the story line to this final book. There was action, fear and yes even a hint of romance. I really wish this series would go on longer. Surely there are other problems this group of friends can solve. A really great series and a great book. It was fast moving and I couldn't put the book down.

I’m so sad this journey is over. I haven’t looked forward to little adventures like this in such a long time. Gilly is a real girl who makes some serious mistakes and learns in time that with her family and friends by her side to help keep her up nothing is impossible. I already can’t wait to reread this beautiful series.

That was a really perfect ending to a wonderful series. Each novel was filled with wonder, adventure, friendship, and so much heart. In the beginning I thought I’ll just pick up this book for fun…well instead it became a series I couldn’t put down ! Did I expect to read this whole series in two weeks? absolutely not! Did I love every moment of it? 100%! If you like Fairytale friends, Disney characters, adventures, magical creatures, found family and self-discovery - this series might just be for you.

Cursed
Ollie, Jocelyn, Gilly, Blackbeard, Aj, and the others are on a two-day trip to Shipwreck Cove to find Hailey. They finally reach their destination (after going through a mirage of rocks). They are almost there when tentacles almost pull them under. (These are real(, They try to fight them off with cannon balls. Jocelyn fires fireballs at them, Blackbeard fights him off with his sword, and AG goes “Beast Mode” and bites them off. A tentacle grabs Jax and Gilly fights them off, but they drag him under. Jax is almost killed by the Cracken but is saved by Hailey and Madama Cleo’s (and the other mermaids) lullaby.

Gilly wakes up with Jax standing over her. There on Shipwreck Cove. Hailey tells them that “Kirk” the Cracken was under one of Rumplestitlskin’s spells. (He’s a mermaid’s pet). He was there a few hours before. He had all of Hailey’s family in an underwater cave. Now they have Darlene (the genie) They all wonder why Rumple didn’t make his wishes. Hailey thinks it could have something to do with the seashell Darlene dropped. Maxine rubs the shell and Darlene appears. She tells her she doesn’t have much time. She says Rumple is allowed to make evil wishes, but if she does grant them she’ll be banished from the genie community. So, she pleads to find her lamp. Each wish could also diminish her powers.
.
She says he can’t cast the curse until and then she vanishes. All the teachers contact them through the mirror (worried). Gilly tells them all what happened. Angelina tells them he’s waiting for the fire moon (when there are three new mons in one month). The next one will occur in three days. He needs a golden egg, a harp, and fairy blood to enact the curse.

Cleo has hidden the harp pieces. She says they are safe because she forgot herself where she hid them. This causes an argument between her and Harlow. Gilly worries that he’ll get Anna’s blood but she’s assured that because she doesn’t know she’s a fairy and hasn’t shown any abilities she’s safe. In the meanwhile, Madam Cleo and some of the mermaids are sent to look for the harp pieces. Harlow sends Gilly to go see her grandmother. She might be able to find out what he needs. Besides the books ending (Angelina says) involves her family. Professor Sebastian gives them all an assignment to tell where they see themselves in 5 years. (They’ll all be going with Gilly to her grandmothers).
A
fter they get past Grandma Pearls mirages, she tells them they have an hour in which she’ll explain why it’s dangerous to get involved with Rumple and Alva. She knows Alva because they use to be friends. When Gilly and Grandma talk she finds out her father and she hasn’t spoke in a while. She and Alva meet at Fairy Boarding School. They were thick as thieves. She meet Gilly grandfather and Alva came obsessed with the Royals. She didn’t like that they had the power to make decisions that affected all their lives. She became even more aggravated with the birth of baby Rose. Then they didn’t invite her. She didn’t want her grandmother to go but she did. Then they had it out. Alva cursed her to be unlucky in love. Gilly’s mother tracked her down to reconcile with her father but what was done was done. In return Grandma cursed her to be short sighted. She tells her this might help her in battle. She tells Gilly she has fairy traits in her she just needs to focs.

She tells her -father always suppressed his fairy side but she (Gilly is nimble, a trickster, and she’s clever. All fairy traits. She can also learn clairvoyance, illumination, and invisibility. She tells her to concentrate on her inner fairy, but it would be helpful if she could get six other fairies to come together. She then gives her a protective charm. There’s a pop and Grandma knows that she’s now been found. She places a protective bubble around Gilly and her friends and gets them out of there as gargoyles start to descend from the sky.

When the bubble bursts, there somewhere in an unfamiliar forest. They notice they aren’t on a hill but a giant. Then they discover he’s not the only one. But then Red and Robin Hood swing down (shooting arrows) – and arms Gilly and rescues her and her friends (with magic arrows). Jack then appears Gilly gets a mirror message from Harlow, Flora, and Angelina. Rumple has made his first wish. He used it to track her. Angelina tells her she saw him in the book when the curse was cast next to him. They tell him to use a secret way through Pinochico’s shop. Robin arms them with a secret stash of radishes that he’s been hording (and is the reason for the radish shortage).

Gilly tho gets a bad feeling about her family and heads home, but they stop her and tell her they have to get back to the school. AG notices some kids and a man sleeping. Then she sees more and more people sleep in the yards. Gilly takes off running to her home. But Gilly’s family is ok. Gilly’s father isn’t happy that she went to see his mother. He says he doesn’t believe anything she says and turns down Gilly’s offer for them to come with them. The Stitlskin Squad show up and take Gilly’s brothers and sister. Gilly uses her father’s wand (whose taking up wand practice again) and uses it on the forece field they’ve thrown up. Anna announces she was the one who cast the spell on the village and the only reason she didn’t spell them was because she needed them awake. Anna’s mom pleads with her but it falls on deaf ears. They get the Squad to drop the barrier. Gilly tries to gp fpr jer brothers, but Hanesel hites her in the thigh. In that moment the Squad open a portal and leave with Gilly’s brothers.

Stiltskin members then descend on the house through the window on gargoyles setting the house on fire. Gilly sinks to the floor (about to give up), but a voice tells her sshe can still end the curse. They escape the house as it goes up in flam on a magic carpet. AJ, Kayla, and Ollie take “Blue” back to the school. Gilly tells her mother, father, and sister theyre coming with them to the school. Trixie says Anna said she wouldn’t hurt her. They just needed Gilly. Now she’ll come right to them. Pinocchio’s Puppet Shop is locked up and the line for Pegasus is around the corner and the stalls are empty. There’s thunder and the boom of a cannon. Then it’s gone. Schock waves sweep over the village and then the villagers yell “THERE THEY ARE! GET THEM!”

Gilly realizes Rumple’s second wish has turned the villagers against them. Pete shows up and deamnds them to throw down their weapons. More expotions are heard. Gilly feels a hand on her shoulder and a voice tells her to follow. She leads them to a secret entrance to a building. They all question who she is and she reveals she’s Princess Rose. She convinces them to use the tunnel to get back to the school. She says she doesn’t want to be evil anymore and she was sent by Flora and Harlow. So they take the path and she closes the entrance. They come to a door at the end of the tunnel but it’s locked. Eventually the door starts to glow and comes open. On the other side is a brick wall covered by pink roses. Joceelyn heads toward the opening but they realize the roses are darts. Then darts go flying. They all duck the darts and go through the opening. On the other side they hear shouts to defend their home. Gilly is struck by a dart and starts to feel woozy. Gilly hears someone say “It’s Gilly” before she blacks out.

Lucily it’s the studens of FTRS. Gilly discovers she’s been out for hours and the fire moon is that night. The teachers want them to go into hiding. They have a panic room. The students want to fight like hero’s. Red and Robin show up through a trap door. The teachers don’t fobject to strongly and then open up secret panels to reveal all kinds of weapons. They tell everyone to pick one and then go to the gym to practice. Ollie says he’ll jon Blackbeard on the sea. They’ll be defending the school from land and sea. Gilly finds out that Celo destroyed the harp pieces but they think Rumple’s found another way (which is why he’s been trying so hard to track her).

Angelina says the book is changed again. Rumple thinks the book is finished but it won’t be complete until he’s gone. His story shifted when Gilly’s brothers were taken. Gilly didn’t come to him. Now he has to come to them. The future is cloudy. Alva is probably frustrated because things haven’t gone her way. Now they have to secure the other Cobblers. They say they’ll have to give the Cobbler’s fairy shrinking potion, but Gilly says she wants to try to get her brothers back. She has to try to get through to Anna. Angelina gives Gilly some words of encouragement and then tells her to work with Kayla.

The next morning, the school’s alerts go off. Rumple is there. A force field is cast. Alva transforms herself into a Wyborn and starts to melt the force field with her fire. Gilly is able to find her brothers and free then by throwing the red vial on her grandmothers necklace at Gretal. Jax is injured but the wand fire richochetes off the protective bubble of the necklace. Harlow almost causes Alva to sink into the ground, but Rumple sends her spinning away in a whirl wind. She then sinks into a vortex. Alva goes off on Rumple for sending Harlow away. She wanted her on their side. He says they still have Anna. She says it won’t do any good. The only two that will survive the curse will be the two of them. A nna hears this and realizes she was lied to. Her family won’t be spaared. Rumple claims he was going to convince her. Alva says the cuse is about to begin.

Alva gets Han and Hamish. She says if Gilly doesn’t sacrifice herself she’ll use her brothers. She doesn’t wait for answer, cuts their hands, and spills their blood on the egg. Gilly and jax are grabbed by gargoyles. Gilly’s arrows do nothing. Things start to erase themselves. Gilly makes a grab for the map but Rumple grabs it. Alva turns on rumple and wishes for him to be banished. Darlene grants the wish and Rumple is sucked up in a vortex. The gargoyles are taken down by radishes being thrown at them. Peaches steals the lmap from Ava and coughs it back up so it’s smaller. Jax tries a bean, opens a portal, and tries to push gilly’s brothers in, but Ava shorts a spell at his heart. Jsc id honr, yhr yeind str honr, GYTD id bsnidhinh. Grandmother shows up. Father joins in the fight. With Hailey, Angelina, and Gilly this makes six to form a forum,, They all start to chant an incantation. It’s not powrful enough. Anna joins in the inchantation. A vortex opens and Alva disappears inside. Peaches has the lamp and Ollie takes it from her. Ollie uses a wish to bring everyone back. Rbrtyonr buy Jsc and Gilly’s brothers. Sebastian gives Gilly Jax’s paper which says he wants to help the people of Enchantaisa and he’ll need a queen. He might have one in mind. Father and Grandmotohoer reunite. Jax and the twins are brought back by one of the giants. Grandmother restores the school (slightly different). Ollie uses his third wish to make a ship on the roof and a bigger room for the care of the naimals class. Anna will be going back to the school wth the rest of the Squad. Gily says in her paper she might want to see the kingdom at peace. She might want to work on the dwarf squad Or maybe run Enchantasia as a commoner.

My Thoughts
This one wasn’t particularly my favorite, It was pretty typical in a lot of ways. The heronine discovers she has powers. (We didn’t even get to see these powers used). One of the villians turns on each other. The ones who have powers hold hands, chant, and POOF that’s the end of the villain. The evil sister turns good again. The school is restored by magic. The indifferent grandma that’s stayed away for years now rejoins the family. Oh and we knew that Jax and the twins weren’t really dead. Nothing really twisty or out of the ordinary.

Rating: 6 I enjoyed most of the books in the series. Overall I’d give the series a 8.

Cursed by Jen Calonita is the 6th book in Fairy Tale Reform School series. This is a book geared a younger audience. Cursed follow Gilly and her band of friends who are not quite "good" but is definitely no where near bad. They all met at school that was created to keep them from becoming villains. While there have continued to butt heads with some the world's biggest villains. Will our heroes be able to stop the real villains and save the world?

I thought this was a fitting end to the series. I listened to first three audiobooks. The first book was great and by the third I decided not to finish the series. When I saw the option to get this book for free I gave it a chance. I am glad I did because it gave my some happy closure.

This is a book geared towards a younger audience but by no means did I think this was terrible. Calonita is fine author who created an interesting world and showed that good and bad is not simple to see, and second chances needed to be given. I would definitely recommend this book to a younger audience. It was well written, there is interesting story, a lesson, and a variety of characters. I am giving this book four stars because it was enjoyable and the author stayed true to her world.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Young Readers for ARC. This is an honest review.
