Officer Beau Rawlings is in over his head. Hikers are missing. Shifters' bodies are turning up. And a precious shifter artifact has been stolen from the local library. Hunter's Lake used to be a quiet place to live, but now it doesn't feel safe. Bear shifter, Beau Rawlings has never had a case so hard to crack. Especially since he can’t get the main suspect, who happens to be the new girl in town, out of his head.
Jessa Langdon is ready for a new life in Hunter’s Lake. Leaving her world behind in Denver, she takes a job at a local library for a fresh start. But her first shift ends in a burglary and she's way too attracted to the cop who shows up to help.
Rawlings and Jessa have to focus on the case, to prove her innocence and catch a killer. But you don't get to choose when you fall in love, and they're about to find out what happens when the rules are broken. They just hope their hearts aren't broken too.
The small town of Hunter's Lake has always been a refuge for shifters, until now. The Undercover Shifter unit must fight against the clock to save the town they love, and the people in it. Get ready for mates, drama, and murder in the new Undercover Shifter Series.
Ally loves to write about hot alpha male shifters. The sexier, the better. When she's not lost in her fantasy world or hanging out with her own alpha, you might catch her wearing heels with a glass of wine in hand and a bag of chocolate in her lap.
Ally wants all her characters to have a happily ever after, but sometimes the long journey to get there is the best part!
Average shifter story. The mystery idea is interesting but most of the story is made up of sexual encounters. No character development, no plot development. No conclusion, the story probably continues into the next book. No editing. The timeline is inconsistent. I will not be reading the next book.
I enjoyed this story of Rawlings and Jessa, there were some points in the storyline that didn't make sense but it was still a good sexy shifter romance. 😀
Warning not a HEA, but a HFN with a cliffhanger ending. The romantic relationship between the main characters was okay, sex was steamy, but seemed to lack something I couldn't put my finger on. The overarching storyline ends in a cliffhanger and it is a humdinger.
Book was rushed. Story was slow on detail. Sheriff was more interested in librarian than solving a serious case. I love and read a lot of shifter books but this book had too much sex sex and sex. Not much investigating. I'll try one more but if there's no improvement, I'm going back to my usual authors. I was trying this author I find myself waiting for the next book and hoping its better.
I'm disappointed, not realizing this was going to be a cliff hanger. The story is quite exciting, and full of yummy sexual exploits. It needs some serious editing, and so have really given this story 3 1/2 stars.... really is a good story but #%$## I hate cliff hangers!
This is a short story that ends with a cliffhanger. It has two parts - missing shifters and the burglary of a shifter relic. The relic has a unique mythos that unfolds during the story. The story was crafted well enough that I do want to read the next book in the series when it comes out.
Some strong points on this one, but overall, still needs a bit of editing and I'd have loved to have more development on both the mystery (which I do realize is supposed to arc through all the books in the series) and the relationship.
Beau and Jessa were pretty bland, as far as characters go. More time with them in the bedroom than actually really building the characters and their interactions. The plot was underdeveloped too (more about Beau and Jessa going rather moony-eyed than about the possibly interwoven Big Mysteries surrounding them). A shame, since the parts of the mystery that were there were intriguing. They just needed more time to develop. I certainly hope she does them justice over the next few books in the series.
Still, the biggest problem I had was the editing honestly. Quite frequent mistakes with POV, for example. Chapters in Rawling's POV which talk about "his" hands (or whatever) instead of "mine" - that sort of thing. Not like it happened every chapter, but often enough that it was distracting. And then the big sex scene at the end was just plain disjointed, very very poor continuity. Like he takes his shirt off, and on literally the next page, "my nails were clawing at his back through his shirt." They're sitting, standing, against the bed with no transitional clues. And there's a vibrator mentioned once and only once. The whole scene was just all over the place. For as much of this novella as that last sex scene took up (and yes, it could have been a good steamy one), it desperately needed a good proof-reader.
A free find on Kindle, and it did keep me entertained, so can't complain too much. HFN ending - like I said, a number of threads loose with the mystery. The couple, though, is settled together, so no real cliffhangers there. Not like someone fell off a cliff as the book ends (still, to date, my most angering example of a cliffhanger in a romance book - and unadvertised too!). No cheating, no over-the-top angst or poor communication skills, no OW/OM drama. Overall, some good potential, but needs more meat on its bones, and some good editing.
A short read that is good, but felt like parts were not coinciding like it should. Jessa just moved to a small town to be a Liberian. Officer Rawlings is on a case to find out what is happening to shifters. When he gets a call to go to the library. What are these feelings for a human? What really happened at the library? What is really happening? Can Jessa be part of what's going on? Does she have the same feelings? I received a free copy for my honest review.
Shifters going missing or killed in this small town hunters lake officer Rawlings is trying to find leads by nothing. Jessa has just moved to hunters lake after splitting with her ex she wants to start another chapter of her life she gets a job in the town library that’s broken into and she meets officer Rawlings which leaves them on a trail of love but also why are the shifters going missing. Only issue with this book is that it ends on a cliff hanger
I’m just not sure about this book. I did finish it, so that’s a plus. It felt like it was written by a very young person who was sort of guessing about grown up life. Maybe it was just so short that almost everything but the sex was left out. It also had editing problems, the heroine called the hero by his last name during sex, but not at other times, and it ends very abruptly without the mystery being solved.
This was an exciting book with a serious mystery going on. Rawlings is a bear shifting officer of the law who meets and falls in love with the new town librarian assistant. There are shifters going missing and absolutely no clues...until there is. And the dang book ended in a cliffhanger! Grr!
I have to rate it high for the story part and the characters. It is a great story full of mystery, suspense, drama, emotions and is hot and steamy. It keeps your attention as there is so much going on. It has only one drawback. I hate cliffhangers and if I know ahead of time I won't read them. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it
Jessa is the new librarian in small town that she just moved to. On her first night weird things start to happen. She also meets Rawlings that night. They seem to be drawn to each other and he wants to protect her. Will the missing people be found? Nice story ideal but seems to need more or maybe just the other books in the set, I'm not sure.
I couldn’t put the book down, it pulled me in from the beginning and now I can’t wait to read more. Jessa moves to be a small town librarian after a bad break up and meets officer Beau Rawlings her first day on the job when someone breaks in and steals the shifter stone. Now they just have to clear Jessa’s name and find a murderer.
WOW...I find myself struggling on what to type because this book is one of a kind. Finding the words to give this book the accolades it deserves. Thanks for sharing your gift of writing. I would like to give you accolades that you deserve...thank you isn`t enough.
When Rawlings meets Jenna, he is captivated by her. It is just too bad it is at a crime scene. Jenna could only stare at the hot cop. The characters just draw you in. I enjoyed it a lot.
I rely recommend this book to all paranormal readers,it a story that gets you hooked, and I could not put this book down until I read the complete book, have to not read the next issue to see how thing develops.
Overall a good story. Intrigue, suspense, and new twists. I would have preferred a bit more story and a bit less overly descriptive sex, but that is just me.
