All Simon Davies wants is to put the events of last spring behind him. Not an easy thing when he's living with the triad, and there's even talk of Noah moving in.
Then he meets Brody Ashman, and finds himself obeying the man without question. But after what happened with Professor Fitz, Simon is done being told what to do. Yet he can't seem to resist Brody's voice.
Brody is taking control of his life, having left his deviant ex and started his gender transition. Ordering Simon is a heady experience, and makes him wonder if he's finally found the perfect, innocent, vanilla partner.
Until he finds out about what happened between Simon and Noah, right when Simon is finally ready to give in.
**This book references past events of a taboo nature.**
(Note: This story takes place in a fictional world, the same as in the Shifting Isles Series. There are multiple gods, different names for the days of the week, etc. A glossary is included.)
The Transitivity series must be read IN ORDER: 1 - Kacey: The First Premise 2 - Austin: The Second Premise 3 - Hunter: The Conclusion 4 - Simon: A Transitivity Novella
G.R. Lyons stumbled into writing as a form of trauma recovery when traditional therapy wasn't working.
Then the story ideas just kept on coming.
Pulling from a vivid imagination as well as real-life experience as a trans man, a sexual assault survivor, and a person living with mental illness, Lyons has written multiple, interconnected series set within his fictional world of the Shifting Isles.
When not writing, Lyons can be found belly dancing around the house, studying anarcho-capitalist philosophy, buried in his never-ending TBR pile, or working out at the local CrossFit gym.
Man I didn't know what to think about this book at first. Of course, I loved it. Simon was finally getting his own story but it saddened me a bit because at first it seemed his relationship with Brody was going to be a whole Hunter thing again. And then all the stuff with Noah. It was just a lot for poor Simon to deal with again and I was so scared for him losing it all over again. But it's a damn good story and I'm so happy Simon got his story.
So while I’m happy that Simon found his person after everything he went through, it just wasn’t what I expected or really wanted for him I guess.
Brody came across as kinda Hunter-ish at first, especially when in his POV he wondered if he could order Simon to do sexual things with him. Really, what about that is genuine? He wanted to be in charge after some really shitty experiences with his ex Doug, which is understandable... but it felt like he wanted to turn that control on to someone else in a negative way at first.
Simon definitely wasn’t wanting to have anything to do with being bossed around by Brody, even though his body liked it. You can tell he was feeling uncomfortable. And when the whole confession time came with Brody and Simon, it was really shitty. It was just another way to make it seem like Simon was wrong for what happened between him and his brother like we haven’t heard it repeated about how “wrong” it was multiple times throughout the last 2 books. Geez. I’m over it.
I’m glad Brody and Simon worked out their differences but meh. I didn’t much enjoy the direction that this went.
Wow, such beautifully written, and well rounded characters, truly bring this book to life. Simon and his insecurities about what happened in his past. Brody and his past hurt, that still affects him was just so tangible. The openness and honesty about being trans, and the dysphoria was so well written that I could clearly picture it. It was also wonderful to catch up with Kacey, Austin, Hunter and Noah again. I truly loved this book.
Simon is adorable. He’s so pure and lost. It’s so hard for him to understand common nuances because he’s such a genius so when it’s time for him to put a different part of his mind to work he’s lost. It’s good to see him grow and find love.
Simon and Brody are amazing characters. I was drawn into their story right away and it never let me go. This book was fantastic, a must read... I definitely recommend.
We have taken a look at Kacey, Austin and Hunter. Now with Simon, by G.R. Lyons, Simon gets his closure. Simon is a little different from the other books in this series in that the only true taboo, if you will, is that between a student and his professor. Past events, however, of a darker, illicit nature make an off-page appearance. But, Simon centers on love, need and a bond that redeems two broken individuals.
At this point we know Simon quite well, as a pure and extremely intelligent young man. Brody Ashman is the new guy in town. Having broken free of a controlling and deviant ex, Brody bears the scars and insecurities to prove it. Will their pasts tear them apart or is this their beginning?
“Hold Still” – these two words hold power for Simon. Hearing them, his world quiets and peace settles over him. At first, Simon finds this disconcerting and he flees. Only the pull is too strong and he succumbs to it. For Brody the control he seeks, he needs, is at his fingertips. As their tenuous connection materializes each man panics, yet despite their reservations they allow their hearts to lead the way.
What a powerful and emotional journey G.R. Lyons has given Simon. ‘Simon’ is truly a wonderful addition to the Transitivity series…
At first there is fear that the “Hunter Effect” is in play again. While that was deliciously dark and devious, it isn’t what I felt Simon deserved. Simon is a gentle person, a genius by nature, who needs a partner to navigate the waters of life. And, it appears that Brody is just the man for the job. With a series of events shaping who these guys become their coupling is just what the other needs, craves. Beyond the need lies so much more!
Truth be told, I found Brody insufferable, abusive, and judgmental. Every interaction was about him, where he didn't care about Simon, unless they were talking about coding. Simon didn't owe Brody anything, especially anything that happened in his past, especially to someone who just told him to lie on a bed and get ridden like a breathing sex toy, no foreplay whatsoever. Creepy and clinical.
Everything was too fast, even for a novella. Simon was a strong character, with a good backstory to that needed developed. Simon was shortchanged by the fast story development and with having Brody as his love interest.
I felt no connection between Simon and Brody. It was even more skeevy than Kacey with the older men, because that kneel bs (it seemed completely out of nowhere with zero context) felt more predatory, abusive, and controlling, as if Brody was taking out his frustrations on Simon. Emotionally cold and closed off, I didn't buy any of the emotions the author tried to tell readers Brody felt for Simon.
It made zero sense for Brody to go after a student on day-one, after all he had been thru with his ex. No empathy. No compassion. Only Brody and his feelings, wants, desires, and needs mattered.
Brody saw Simon's wrist scars, witnessed the rocking and fazing out, and ignored it because it wasn't about him.
I usually enjoy the unbalanced dynamic of a teacher and student, but the balance felt way out of whack, with Simon, who was suffering from PTSD and recovering from an attempted suicide, to get into a controlling relationship with a narcissistic professor. At least with Kacey, who was a happy soul, all the bad Hunter did was balanced by Kacey's personality. The fact that Brody, until the last page of the novel, made a still suicidal Simon feel worse about himself, I wasn't left with any good vibes from the novella at all.
Simon, Kacey's best friend has had a terrible traumatic year. Simon is a genius who helps s terrible with every day Life skills so thankfully he lives with Kacey and his men. After starting a new semester at school, Simon meets his professor Brody. Brody is a FTM trans starting his life over. These two men are perfect together and sweet and Hot. I loved this story. I loved that after so much turmoil Simon finally forgives himself and gets his HEA!
I had to wait a bit to find out how Simon was dealing with all that he’d been through in the previous 3 books and it was worth the wait. Brody is the perfect partner for him. I love this series and this was another incredibly written , super sexy story. Simon is confused, he doesn’t know what he’s looking for and with two words, he gets what he needs from Brody. I have recommended and will continue to recommend this book/series! Wonderful!
We revisit Simon months down the road after the events of Hunter. He finds another scarred but kindred spirit in Brody. The path is not easy but oh so worth the journey.
I don’t know how he does it but this author keeps pulling me into each and every book. My goodness Simon is so precious. I am so glad he found his HEA. And Brody is so amazing. Strong and determined. They are a perfect match.
