She was offered as a sacrifice. He took her as his mate.
The moment her ship crash-landed, Selena Marks knew she was in way over her head, and that was before the natives of this planet took her captive, stripped her bare, and brought her deep into a sacred cave to be given as a sexual sacrifice to the godlike brute whose whims they serve.
Though Selena has an idea of what is in store for her, when her captor claims her it is far more intense than anything she could have imagined. Every attempt at defiance or escape ends with her pleading for mercy as her quivering body is punished and ravaged in the most shameful ways possible, but with each helpless, screaming climax, the truth becomes harder and harder to deny.
She is his mate, and soon she will beg for him to breed her.
Publisher's Note:Mate includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

Mate is very much a story of Domination and submission it wasn't incredibly complicated and instead of this being plot-driven, It focused more on the physical. That's not to say this wasn't an enjoyable experience because it was just don't go expecting some epic blockbuster because that is not what this essentially is about. Pilot Selena Marks is on a space mission observing a primitive planet and its inhabitants when the ship loses power. Flying an escape pod to the surface she finds herself taking the place of the lastest sacrifice and in the clutches of an omnipotent being of unknown origin Malcolm who informs her that he is keeping her as his mate. This also comes with a hefty dose of humiliation and also a lot of objectification. The humiliation is really just name-calling and not anything way out there or severe and it is something Selena herself gets off on also. This was essentially well-written but this one is really more about the kinky antics of Selena and Malcolm it was not an incredibly deep tale but it was fun all the same.
Dark and Deliciously Wicked. That sums up Trent Evans’ stories, and this one’s no different. When he asks me if i like to review an ARC,i immediately stand at attention and give the only reply possible “Yes,please!!!” I am yet to be disappointed in what he so generously shares.
This story is situated on a planet called HW14-3,and it tells us what happens after Selena and her crew have to abandon ship and crash on this strange planet they were studying. She’s caught by the locals and taken to the very cave they’d been concentrating on. Girls had been taken there and left behind as a sacrifice to....something. Those girls did leave that cave the next day, unharmed,so Selena wasn’t tóó worried. Until she is trapped. Until Malcom. He is....tall and looks devilishly attractive,Mephistophelian. But he is more,so much more....and he wants her. To keep. Can he “convince” her to stay?
Trent’s men have a special way to get their women to do what they want,ánd like it. If you want to know how Malcom does just that,i suggest you read this deliciously wicked story. I promise you....you’ll like it,a lot!
Trent Evans' Primal Claim, so far, has been my favourite work by him and that was an erotic take on omegaverse. I was, therefore, highly anticipating Mate, which looked like an erotic take on science fiction. But I'm left feeling eh about the story overall. The sex scenes are always splendid, but the story itself is a little dry. I noticed that too in Evans' At His Will where the talk about work was too real, and therefore boring... and even in that book, the money laundering/cartel business was a bit too mystery thriller writing for my personal preference.
Mate has the same couple trajectory of dominant alpha with an independent woman who actually doesn't know she is a submissive falling in lust-love as Evans' other works. I just didn't get into this. Nothing grabbed my attention, how the planet worked, what was going on with Selena's shipmates.
I really enjoyed this steamy little alien sci-fi romance with dom/sub themes. I liked the setting because unlike the common futuristic sci-fi settings, this had a more primitive feel. The writing style was SO nice. I'll definitely be reading more by Trent Evans. The heroine was very likable. I read some of the critical reviews, and I find it funny some of them criticize the connection between the leads. I mean, this is a smutty dark sci fi romance. I wasn't expecting a super deep connection between the leads. The concept of what it meant to be Malcom's mate was overwhelming, I could feel the power exchange in some of those moments. This is definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a dark erotic sci-fi read.
What a load of cesspool this was not a romance at all and definitely no storyline just one man and his ego and one poor deluded woman. I am afraid I absolutely detested this book, a good job it was on kindle unlimited because it I had had to pay for it I would have asked for my money to be refunded.
I don't know where to start. First of all, my laptop will never be the same after reading Mate; next time I read something written by Mr Evans, I'll have to use a stack of ice cubes for my laptop (or myself)LOL
The story starts innocently enough, with an exploration team from Earth in orbit of a planet doing a survey, and then...it becomes a perfect fantasy. For starters, the H is described by the h as "the darkest, most twisted male fantasy her fevered mind had ever conjured up", and it was as if she had read my mind :-D. That is why science fiction is my favorite genre, it can take your fantasy a step further, as this book does.
If you enjoy domination/submission dynamics, you are in for a ride. I almost felt embarrassed to feel so hot and bothered by the scenes here described...actually, my ovaries were going to explode. Trent Evans has got a special talent to create incredibly alluring, dominating male characters (a touch sadistic) and their counterpart in the submissive female character, who welcome and appreciate that sadistic brand of domination.
Some people may find this eroticism pornographic, but IMO this book is so sensuous, that it cannot be compared.
I also felt touched by the struggle the FMC had to accept her feelings, to accept who she really was, to see her situation as the liberation it really was; she goes through a life-changing experience.
There is a love story here, not just sex, and the combination of emotion and smuttiness is a particular brand of this author. Few can explore your darkest fantasies so well, though.
If you are not into rough sex, this is not for you; however, if you enjoy brutish, dominating heroes doing extremely filthy things to a very receptive (not at first) heroine, this is your dream come true.
I highly recommend this book.
I received a copy of this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. More honest than this, it would be censored LOL...Loved it, thank you Trent!
Unusually for Trent Evans this is a standalone very hot, raunchy, sometimes disturbing, erotic romance with some very graphic unequal sexual encounters, eye watering disciplinary punishments and just a few tender moments. Selena Marks is a flight officer on the survey ship UBTS Gambier Bay orbiting planet HW14-3. Selena and the team have been in orbit watching the planet for 18 months studying the humanoid population they have affectionately named 'pixies'. Whilst watching the various rituals they realise that the 'pixies' practice human sacrifice when they observe a young female being taken as an offering to a huge demonic looking shadowy figure lurking just inside the opening of a large cave in the mountains. Suddenly all systems of the ship begin to fail and the crew and team have to jump for the life boats. Selena is the last to escape the ship and when she crash lands in the mountains near the creature's cave, she knows she is in serious trouble. Nothing can prepare her for the encounter with the seven foot tall, horned creature "Malcolm" who has a godlike power over the entire planet but how can she respond to his power and cruelty with such lust? Malcolm plans to make her his Mate and when that happens, everything for her will change forever. This was an entertaining, if occasionally, uncomfortable read. As always Mr Evans' writing and narrative is polished, tight and professional his description excruciatingly concise and the story moves along at a wicked pace. Having said all of that, I am a big fan but this wasn't my favourite of his books. At times I felt quite anxious on behalf of Selena because the power was so unequal it was almost too unfair, especially in view of the fact that Malcolm was in love with her. On the whole though it was an entertaining and absorbing read and its always a treat when Trent Evans releases a new book.
Yuck! This book tries so hard to reason and reassure the reader that the female love interest really wants to have her tits constantly slapped, pinched, twisted to the point of real pain. And any woman who’s ever breastfeed; For a man to have such control over a woman as to stop her from feeding or pumping for no other reason but to cause the woman pain? So much more crazy painful crap, for the woman of course. If the male love interest says I love you once it doesn’t make this a love story. This book isn’t romance it’s sadistic. Nothing wrong with it if that’s what you want to read. I don’t. Please put this book in the right category.
It was ok. Too much “sex” and too little story. With all the degrading of the heroine the story became simply repetitive, boring episodic sessions with nothing to carry the tale. The hero was an interesting interpretation of an alien being especially with his connection to the planet, the perception of his physical appearance, but he lacked depth due to the single minded theme in the entire storyline.
IDK...I've read Trent Evans before but I wasn't really expecting anything. The biggest issue I had was...there wasn't any real emotional connection between the MCs.
I really tried to give this book a chance but nothing changed my opinion of it. It was bad enough that I wouldn't consider another book from this author.
I almost exclusively read dark romance so triggers aren't a big deal for me at all but this story needs to come with a warning for readers who do have triggers. It is rapey. There's barely a storyline to follow and it was as if to compensate for the lack of story the author added in constant sex scenes. I don't want a book with nothing but sex unless I'm specifically looking for a short story erotica. I prefer my books to have a good, engaging plot to hold my interest. The characters had no chemistry whatsoever. Everything just seemed too robotic. The female character was obviously written by a man and I just couldn't connect with her. The same goes for the male character. His ego aggravated me quite a bit. Overall, the book was a big disappointment.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ummmm... I think that I need to give this 69 hot, steaming stars. Because, yeah, it needs that many. Trent Evans really knows how to write a story that is going to tie you into knots and keep you oh, so interested.
Selena is an interesting character. She really wanted to make it as a pilot on her own merits, and I totally respect that. No one wants to get ahead just because they are who they are. She's done really well at it too, I think. I think that she's emotionally fairly strong, if sometimes conflicted.
Malcolm is endlessly fascinating, and I could spend hours thinking about him as a character and exactly who he is. I think that I might come up with a different answer every time I thought about it. Trent Evans has just put so many things in there to think about him. The thing is, this book isn't all that long, comparatively, so the fact that there is so much on there is just really impressive.
Then, you have the living vines that I sure wish I could have some of those around my house, because they would be oh so very fun.
This book had a really interesting beginning. And I loved the setup/intro to the godlike, alien being. However, this being suddenly devolved into a regular human male in terms of behavior, personality, and dialogue—pretty much everything that made him godlike or alien. As a result, the book quickly lost what captured my interest. The moss and cave were far more interesting he was. Also, this book, although it had a female main character, definitely seemed written from the male perspective. No problem at all, but it didn't help the lackluster dialogue and "action" scenes.
I couldn't finish this book. Humiliation is not a turn on for me, actually, it has the opposite effect. I don't know why, but the h in the story craves humiliation and finds it sexy, and I just can't relate. Some parts of this story were really steamy and interesting, (for instance, the vines) but then came the humiliation and extreme pain,(things going past the cervix, OUCH!) and suddenly i'm grossed out, slightly disturbed and annoyed. So, yea, this wasn't for me.
DNF - IF I COULD LEAVE NO STARS I WOULD. The synopsis intrigued me and I started this very interested but very early on it was made clear this is another shining examples of the cringe inducing ways men write women. Selena was not a convincing or sympathetic lead what so ever. Malcom is a class A nice guy prick who I wanted to bite a sidewalk. Made it 47% before I couldn't stand any more.
I have to say this is an interesting read. It has a story but it's got a lot is sex in it. If your easily offered by woman subjugated by a man needs and wants than this story is not for you. Not bad but won't be some cup of tea.
It’s really tiring the “slut” every other sentence. Spanking, bonding and power exchange was alluring but ir was really disappointing the many times Malcolm called Selena slut. The names and insults I hardly stands.
First of all, this is pure erotica with very little story. If that's what you want, you'll probably enjoy this. This isn't a criticism of those who do; I simply prefer more plot and character development to underpin my kink. I will say that I usually find this author too harsh and this wasn't as violent as I thought it would be (I know: damning with faint praise).
I also want to give a shout-out to all the reviewers who noted the problems in female characters created by male writers. Absolutely spot-on and here's an article that hits this particular nail on the head: https://www.buzzfeed.com/farrahpenn/h....
Oh, and to all the reviewers who wax on about BDSM: this isn't BDSM. BDSM is a codified lifestyle practiced by real people in the real world and its bedrock is consent, which is nowhere in this book. Read about this if you want to, but stop simultaneously revealing your ignorance about something you know nothing about and impugning an entire lifestyle.
Finally, I'm leaving this review less because of this particular book and more because an inordinate number of reviewers here have shamed others for their reviews. The short version is: 1) What other people think is no concern of yours unless they actively threaten or use hate speech against an author; and 2) Taking other readers to task because of the fact that this book is generic or "dark" is absurd when those words not only mean very different things to different people, but also mean very different things in different books. Side note: "Dark" is now so over-used as to become meaningless. The long version of all this is below.
Dear Self-Appointed Gatekeepers on this Website,
Before you "flame" another reader for their review, I've provided this handy-dandy checklist of things you may want to consider first. Of course, free speech means that within the guidelines of this site you are free to ignore these suggestions, but, you may find that they will save you time and energy in the long run. So, without further ado...
I want to shame someone for their review. Before I do so, have I asked myself the following:
1) Would I, in turn, want to be shamed for my own feelings about this book/author/genre?
2) Does this review ruin my day, week, month, and/or life?
3) Does this review either prevent or call for preventing the author from writing, the publisher from releasing, Amazon from selling, Goodreads from listing, me or any other reader from reading, and/or me or any other reviewer from reviewing?
4) Does the publisher's blurb sufficiently warn a reader about what they will be getting? (One example reviewers often use is if the book contains non-consent, has the blurb indicated that it's "dark?" This very precise, non-ambiguous word, you see, is supposed to explain everything.)
5) Does this review make a distinction between kink (spanking and other BDSM practices) AND misogyny (the H thinks that he's superior to the h by virtue of his anatomy and preaches that the h is less than because of her gender)?
6) Does this review make a distinction between dominance/hurt (for example, the H ties the h up and sexually teases her) AND physical, emotional, and mental cruelty/harm (for example, the H actively harms her health)?
7) Is my stance that anything goes in fiction/this genre/erotica the hill I want to die on, knowing that I may read a book that contains homophobia, transphobia, racism, classism, abelism, antisemitism, islamophobia, xeonophobia, and/or misogyny that I find unpalatable? (Note: I, JD, am NOT saying that any of these -- other than the misogyny, which is par for the course in many of these books whether the author self-identifies as male or female, and no, it's not because of the genre -- are present in this particular book.)
8) Is my stance that one should only leave good reviews the hill I want to die on, knowing that I may read a book -- even in the genre I love -- that I don't like?
9) Am I really objective or do I have any sort of vested interest in this book/author/genre? That is: am I an ARC reviewer who may be swayed by the promise of a free book? Am I "friends" with this author IRL, on this site, or any social media site? Am I a fellow author (or even the author themselves) who has hosted this writer on my website and, in turn, been hosted on theirs? Am I a subscriber to any of the publishing companies who regularly release these books?
10) Do I really want to direct vitriol at a complete stranger who has never done anything to me in any way, shape, or form?
11) Do I really want to waste my time attacking this review via comments or not-so-implicitly referring to it in my own review knowing this reader is unlikely to desist from reviewing or change their reviews?
If you can answer numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, (the first part of) 9, 10, and 11 in the affirmative, and numbers 5 and 6 in the negative, then, by all means, flame and shame. It's your time to waste (see #11).

Kudos to Mr Evans for writing such a unique adult sci-fi fantasy🌈🐲.
This book was...wow. I don't think HOT even describes it good enough! We follow Serena, a starship pilot with a kinky secret as she discovers a new planet and it's...well...God? Malcolm, as he calls himself, felt the call of what can only be his true mate, and he HAS to have her.
Serena is willful though, and Malcolm is a very dominant being that needs her to submit.
This yummy book is perfect for those who loves a dominant alpha male who uses all the tricks to get his female to submit. It's pleasure with some pain.
It's definitely not something you want to read in a public place... ;) You might just spill all over ... But maybe that's just your thing? Try it... I dare you... ;)
I could not out this book down for the life of me.
Maybe I'm just not a fan of off-world/alien "romance" stories--although there was absolutely no romance to this story... It could also be that I've led a very sheltered life and have zero knowledge or understanding of BDSM....But this story was completely unbelievable to me. On what planet are "slut," "whore," and "brood mare" terms of endearment and evidence of "love"? The only good thing about this book was that it was a free read on Kindle Unlimited.
Storyline was good. Definitely a dark book. The only problem I had was it’s obvious the author is a man because his character lives & sleeps with her juices running down her legs nonstop. Makes me think the author has none to little experience with women. His other character only wants a plaything he controls. What love is there is minimal at best.
I didn’t like this storyline, I’m sorry, I hate writing bad reviews because I’m sure there are people who enjoy stories like this one. I didnt like their relationship and truly found the meaning erotica. There was sex in almost every scene. I don’t like the heroine bing called bad names and didn’t like who the hero was.
She had things going past her cervix and still was 'enjoying' herself? Really, now?! It wasn't so much that I liked it as much as I didn't hate it. 2.5 stars.
It could benefit from a bit of editing in some romantic scenes. You know for it to actually qualify as a 'romance' in any form.
The premise of a professional women wanting a mate who is abusive is difficult to understand. To allow him to treat her like garbage and both say it is love is nuts.
