This book is a hodgepodge of commonplaces, platitudes and anecdotes loosely revolving around the usual suspects of "business" self-help books: entrepreneurship, freelancing, efficiency, focus, motivation, leadership, etc.

It's structured in 62 short chapters with no real connecting theme or any special order. The style is that of using anecdotes of successful people or interviews done by the author, together with personal anecdotes, to illustrate some kind of recommendation. At first it feels like an overelaborated checklist, but then some chapters don't seem to get any point across and some recommendations are repeated throughout the book in different forms. Reading it is a mix of being entertained and confused, not in equal parts.

I imagine the book is spun out of a mailing list, very much in the style of other authors like James Clear, from which I am sure it takes inspiration from. One of the recommendations the author makes is to "put aside an hour a day to write" if you are an aspiring author with a main job, and it would seem this is how this book came to be. That would explain why it feels like a mishmash of unrelated things. At some points this is so apparent, that the last phrase of the chapter seems to have been added in the editorial phase as a segue to the next chapter; but it's so feigned, it's cringeworthy.

There is some value to take from it; mainly from the selection of quotes of successful people. As an example, when I was about to leave the book for good, the author states "there is no shame in leaving a book you are not enjoying", which was pretty serendipitous, but then he says Bill Gates never left a book, even if it's bad (which is also my curse), and he used the bad books to write arguments and counterpoints in the margins. That's what I did. At some point, after talking all in favor of focusing, he goes on to recommend reading multiple books at the time or spending time acquiring secondary skills just in case you are fired. At some other point, he reminisces training for a marathon and getting peroneal tendinitis, a common mistake of over-eager novices… not sure how to take this from someone who is giving advice on how to build a successful career.

It is an honest effort, and the writing is good and cheering. If you are a salesperson, a middle-manager or an aspiring author, I am sure there is some good common advice that needs reminding in here.

I was given a free copy of the book by the author for my honest review.

This book provides a treasure trove of some of the tried and tested productivity hacks and systems and also several lesser-known ones that I will be trying. If you are widely read on the subject you will notice many of the references to systems and approaches to work and improving efficiency.

The book is written is short punchy chapters as if almost created for our distracted (read unproductive) brains and social media influenced short attention spans. That is what makes it the type of book you will want to be referring back to as you seek to find the tools and ideas that will work for you or to tackle a specific situation.

Bryan Collins does no provide you with the answer, instead, he provides you with a multitude of solutions any one of which could be the answer you are seeking.

I recommend reading through the book and highlighting or bookmarking the chapters that resonate and then choose one or two approaches to see if it works for you. If not go back and read a few more chapters or check the next marked one.

If you are looking for the ultimate productivity solution this book does not provide that but if you are able to implement ideas and give them a fair try then it's likely the solution lies within these pages somewhere.

I received this book gratis from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

Bryan Collins has written a good book on focusing on order to achieve the goals you set for yourself.

Much of the information is very quickly covered which makes for fast reading. As an avid reader of business books, I found much of the information to be bite sized chunks of what I have read in whole books before.

If you like to get straight to the point with out all the psychology of the how or why, this book is for you. However, this book covers a lot of ground and doesn't give much in the way of in depth know how. For me it was to much "do this" without enough "why" and "how".

I do recommend this book for those who like no fuss or drills but rather a checklist of activities to accomplish.

This is a straight to the point book. It has several sections that you can read bit by bit without having to tire yourself through a vigorous reading session.

The book has small sections each with key ideas on what to do and not what to do in various situations. It is a good book for those looking to improve their general life as the ideas given can be applied in almost all areas of life.

Grab your copy and dive in.

This book covers a large set of principles for work success in one single book. The chapters are short and to the point, yet the reader if often presented with some key ideas and examples in just a few words. Enjoyed it.
