But when Anna and her frightened daughter walk into his restaurant, he feels an overwhelming urge to protect them. He’s determined to help them find a place where they feel safe, and to prove to Anna that not all men are like her ex. What he doesn’t anticipate is the intense attraction that draws them together.

For a while, Anna believes she’s found her safe haven. That is, until her ex finds her. Now Anna must find the courage to fight for her freedom…and Nic must convince Anna to give her heart—and him—a chance.

JM Stewart writes heartfelt contemporary romance. Whether the heat level is sizzling or sweet, her stories are always deeply emotional. Her heroes are strong but sensitive (no alpha jerks here!), and her heroines are more Cinderella than Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Recently transplanted, she now lives in a small town in Texas along with her husband, two sons and two very spoiled dogs. When not writing, she enjoys reading, cooking and playing computer games. As a sensitive soul with a romantic heart, she believes in angels and hopes everyone finds their happily ever after.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 14, 2016

Single father Nic Rossi’s only desire is to raise his little girl with the same love and security his grandparents gave him and his siblings. That is, until Anna Thompson and her frightened daughter walk into his family restaurant, looking for employment, and turn his carefully ordered world upside down.

On the run from her abusive ex, Anna wants one thing: a quiet place like Angel Bay to raise her daughter. But she needs a job to pay for that dream, even if her new boss is a man whose sheer size makes her tremble. Yet Nic’s capacity for kindness leaves her feeling safe for the first time in years, and the gentle giant slowly awakens her long-dormant passion.

Then her ex-husband turns up like a bad penny, threatening not only Anna’s safe haven but Nic’s daughter in the bargain, forcing them to choose between love and family.

REVIEW: NIC is the second installment in J. M. Stewart’s contemporary, adult, romance series. This is single father/ restaurateur Nic Rossi, and single mother Anna Thompson’s story line. NIC can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Nic and Anna) NIC focuses on the building relationship between Nic Rossi, and Anna Thompson. Anna and her young daughter Lacey are on the run. Three years since her divorce and Anna fears her ex-husband will make good on a promise to destroy her life. Abused and battered, Anna sought solace at a women’s shelter, and has been on the run ever since. Landing in Angel Bay, Washington Anna finds a job, a temporary home, and a man who calls to her heart. Enter single father Nic Rossi- a man whose own heart was shattered years before.

NIC is a story of ‘second chances’. As a single father Nic’s sole responsibility has been his daughter Ella but with the arrival of Anna Thompson Nic’s idea of family now came with the possibility of a future with Anna and her daughter Lacey. Anna is determined to stay one step ahead of her abusive ex but complacency finds Anna facing down her greatest fear.

The relationship between Anna and Nic is one of immediate attraction but Nic suspects Anna is running from a dangerous past. When Nic offers up his home to Anna and her daughter temptation is at hand. The sex scenes are intimate and romantic.

We are introduced to Anna’s co-worker Beth whose own past is mired in abuse. Nic’s brother Luc and his wife Liz, as well as their daughter Alyssa and nine month old Sam round out the family setting.

NIC is a story of family and friendship; betrayal and revenge; heartbreak and moving forward. NIC is also a story of one woman’s struggle to free herself from an abusive ex-an ex who is determined to take back what he believes is his. The premise is sensitive and dramatic; the characters are passionate and intense; the romance is emotional and intimate.

My review originally posted on Romancing-the-Book.com is below:

This book held my interest from the first page to the last even though I haven't yet read book one in the series, Luc . There was so much action and emotion throughout the story and I cried along with Anna and at times Nic too. It didn't hurt that Nic and his brother are Italian and they spoke of their beloved grandmother often which brought up fond memories for me since I am 100% Italian.

Nic is one of the good guys which is a rare breed in Anna's eyes since she and her young daughter, Lacey, are running for their lives from her ex-husband Tony. Having to always look over her shoulder and having Lacey always afraid is no way to live. When she applies for a job as a waitress at Nic's family's restaurant she doesn't know what a blessing it will be. He takes her under his wing and tries to help her as much as he can even though he's scarred from his marriage and has a young daughter, Ella, that he's raising alone but has a strong support network in his brother, Luc, and his wife, Liz.

When he and Anna join forces things seem to be better, but are they? Anna has nightmares, a daughter wise beyond her years, doesn't like to be the center of anyone's attention, is always running scared, finds it hard to accept help and kindness and doesn't know what it means to be loved. Nic shows her another world, one she's never been a part of. Even though she desperately wants a home she can't get complacent in case Tony finds her again and she doesn't want to bring him and his evilness to the town that she's starting to feel welcome in.

There are family and friends, twists and turns to the story, memories, heartache, fear, anger, hurt, sadness, tears, evil, lots of food, a community, laughter, hope, romance, loving and love. Anna is so starved for love and affection and trusts Nic not to hurt her but can he get through her defenses? There is a happily ever after and nice closure especially with the epilogue.

This is the first book I've read by JM Stewart but it won't be my last. I will be adding some of her books to my always growing TBR pile!

Favorite Quote: His soft-spoken words settled around her like a warm blanket and filled her chest with emotions so foreign they were almost unrecognizable: joy and gratitude. A single tear slipped past her defenses, dripping down her cheek, as her heart glommed onto his words. He'd never know the kindness he'd given her, what he'd done for her, with two simple little words. She didn't know if she had the strength to tell him without breaking down completely.

I think what I liked most about this one was how the author did not leave room for questions regarding the characters' actions. For example in some books that I've read I sometimes ask myself 'why would he help her when he doesn't know who she is- love at first sight is not the right answer dammit!'. With this one he actually says:

“God forbid someday Ella[his daughter] end up in Sarah’s position. If she did, he hoped like hell someone would reach out to her as well”

This is a great book if you're not looking for something dark, but has enough bits of drama to create a plotline. I however did not find the characters too remarkable. Nic is alright, he was patient, tender and sexy but I didn't find him off the rocks amazing. Anna/Sarah was going through a difficult time and I understood her position and thus her actions but I wanted to see more of her spark than the constant worry she voiced out. We all have our ideal characters, they weren't mine but they would work out well for those those who wants to read something a little mellow but has enough drama.

I got this because I also wanted to see how some families are formed and this author did a great job of that.

“They were now a single, official unit, no longer separate, broken pieces but one whole”

By the way, this is my first book by this author and from this series but I didn't find anything missing so I say it could work as a standalone.

*Warning: There is a bit of a sensitive subject matter of abuse. It’s not explicit, but it is an important element to the story.*

We first meeet Nic in Luc, having a little fun at his brothers expense. In this story, you get a sense of Nic’s insecurities. You get the full extent and full understanding of why… and it’s truly heart wrenching. On one fateful night, Anna and her daughter, Lacey enter the Rossi’s restaurant after hours and meet Nic. Both Anna and Nic have experienced traumas in their lives and are extremely open to insecurities, but on different levels.

Anna and Lacey are on the run from Anna’s abusive ex-husband, Tony, and as a result, land themselves in Angel Bay. It’s a nice safe town and a great place to raise a family. As they get to know each other and grow close, love and danger is just around the corner. What do you do? Stand and fight for what you want? Or do you flee?

This is a charming story of love, loss, fighting for what you want in life, and having the courage to receive it. Anna starts off as a woman terrified of all men, especially Nic as there are physical similarities between Nic and Tony. As the story progresses, Anna grows strong and she not only finds her voice, she finds herself. Nic thought he could never love again. He let his guard down and amazing things happened!

Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quick love story!

Nic (Rossi Brothers #2) by J.M. Stewart
5 stars
M/F Romance
Triggers: Abusive partner
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Anna is a strong woman. She has endured countless beatings, years of abuse and above all, she has protected her daughter. She is wary of men, with good reason, but Stewart is great at developing her character, showing her hesitancy and then, resolving those issues.

Nic is an amazing father, family man and businessman. He wants nothing more than to help Anna get over her fear of men. He sees her strength even when she can't recognize it. When he notices he's falling in love with her, he runs scared.

Both are trying to get over the hurdles of their past. When Tony, Anna's abusive ex, rears his ugly head again, Nic and Anna can either run or stand and fight.

This story has the typical HEA and is a very easy read. It was great because Stewart writes their emotions so convincingly.

This is a story of love, of having a second chance at happiness and love. I fell in love with this story because these characters are both dealing with issues and find themselves drawn to each other while struggling to find the happiness that has been denied to them. Anna and Nic are both single parents who are both dealing with issues, Anna’s worse than Nics. This book deals with a touché subject but it is done beautifully. This writing was great, the plot great, and the characters found a way into my heart. This was a great second chance love story.

I was not disappointed with this story at all. I was hooked from page one until the end of the story. This is a series I want more of. JM Stewart's story was a little heart wrecking, soul shattering, and a story of growth and love. This was a great book that has so many unique qualities that make a great book stand out. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series.

Loved, loved, loved!! There is nothing not to love about these Rossi Brothers. Nic Rossi is living life quietly working in the family restaurant and raising his young daughter. He knew his life would never be the same when a scared young woman and her daughter come into his restaurant late one night looking for a job. He knows instinctively that this woman is troubled and running from something or someone. All Anna Thompson wants is to give her daughter the stable life and childhood she deserves. Her abusive ex is making that all but impossible. On the run for 3 years now Angel Bay seems like paradise but if she doesn't get a job she won't be able to feed her daughter. Trusting Nic Rossi is the hardest thing she's ever had to do but if she does she might find that perfect life she's looking for.

Put this one on the must read list. I highly recommend it.

**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.**

Honestly, I don't even know what to say. I have a new book boyfriend--and not the bad boy alpha type that most readers swoon over. This boyfriend, Nic, is a sweetheart. An emotionally mature man I think most women / men deep down want in a long-term partner.

As for the story, Ms. Stewart brings in some turmoil in the form of abuse, and how loving kindness can heal a person's heart and past. The character's emotions are believable, their stories all too familiar.

This book is very well written, has enough steam to satisfy the heat lovers, and an hea that will at times leave you teary-eyed wishing such a man as Nic Rossi would come into your life.

Anna Thompson has been on the run from her ex-husband for a while now, and she's getting tired of running. Settling in a place like Angel Bay would be perfect for her and her daughter, but in order to do that she's in desperate need of a job and somewhere to live. Approaching Nic Rossi and practically begging him to hire her as a waitress in his restaurant is her first step. Never did she expect him to be so kind and offer her the sort of hospitality he does. Can she learn to trust a man again and find the kind of happiness she's only ever dreamed of?

Nic Rossi has avoided relationships ever since his wife left him, and instead, has concentrated on being a good father to his daughter. However, the moment Anna walks into his restaurant and asks him for a job, he can't help but want to give her a chance since it seems she hasn't had the easiest of times lately. When he learns the truth about her past, Nic will do anything he can to protect her. But when her ex-husband finally threatens her, it's going to take a miracle to convince her not to run again.

What a powerful and emotional read Ms. Stewart has penned with this second book of her Rossi Brothers series, which delivers a story about a couple healing each other from the hurts of a past relationship; a heroine's hope for a fresh start once she overcomes her past; and a hero determined to convince her that he's nothing like her ex. The way this story opened with Anna confronting Nic and enquiring about a job set the fast-pace of the story for me, because I wanted to know whether he'd give her a chance or not. Anna's been through a lot and needs a break, and Nic's kindness is refreshing for her. Something she desperately needs, if she's ever to trust a man again.

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, and what happens to one of the main characters towards the end. The heroine has survived so much, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. She needs to feel safe again and the only way she's going to be able to do that is to face her past. Can she confide in Nic about everything she's been through? It's not something she can talk to anyone about easily, out of fear for her and her daughter's safety. Knowing what her husband would do if he ever discovered her whereabouts. She's been there, done that and not willing to suffer the pain he'd cause her again if he did find her. It's what made her a good mom. The way she was willing to do whatever it took to protect her daughter.

Nic was a fantastic hero, but it took a while for me to warm up to the heroine. I could understand why it seemed she was jumping at every shadow because of the hurt her ex caused her. Yet, at the same time, she needed to realize that she could trust people. Needed to realize that to claim her life back she needed people on her side; people like Nic and his family. Then again, I could understand her hesitancy with how dangerous her husband was. Indeed, she had some important decisions to make. Was she going to stay and fight her battle when the going got tough, or would she run again? However, as the story progresses she begins to show how strong she is with the decisions she does make. Decisions in how far she'll go to protect everyone she's coming to care for, even if it may be the wrong choice and causes her hurt.

While Nic, he's kind, caring, and would do anything to help someone. He's not looking for a relationship, and yet, there's something about Anna he can't resist. Besides, he's good for her in making her realize that there are good men in the world. Men like him that would never do the things her ex did to any woman. I also liked that he helped Anna whenever she really needed it. She couldn't continue to be haunted by what her husband did to her. Moreover, I liked the growing bond between Nic and the heroine's daughter.

Overall, this was a really good book that provided plenty of emotion and a strong romance that illustrated how a man should care for the woman he's coming to love. The way this story ended was intense due to what happens to one of the main characters, but I thought what happened to the heroine's ex was a little anti-climatic. Really, I was expecting a final confrontation between the heroine and her ex. However, in saying that, I did enjoy how things ended up for Nic and Anna. He wasn't about to let her go, not when she meant so much to him. I would recommend Nic by JM Stewart, if you enjoy the sexy protector trope or a hero that does everything in his power to show the heroine that she can trust him.

Anna Thompson is on the run from a highly abusive ex-husband, when she lands in Angel Bay. Her fear is at an all time high, but she knows that she must take care of her daughter, Lacey. But she needs a job desperately, in order to find them a place to live, and feed Lacey. She's sent to a restaurant where she meets Luc, and although his size terrifies her, she begs him to give her a chance anyway. Single father Nic Rossi's focus is to raise his little girl that he was shown by his grandparents. Since his wife left, he's not even entertained trying to find someone new, but when Anna and her terrified daughter, walk into his family restaurant, his life is turned upside down. As he slowly teaches her to trust him, he finds Anna and Lacey are working their way into his heart. But when her ex-husband finds her, will he keep her safe before she runs again?

WHAT A POWERFUL STORY! I mean, like my heart was in my throat the whole time, and not from the suspense, but because I could physically feel Anna's fear threatening to choke me. The character development unfold very realistically, when dealing with a victim of domestic abuse, and the colorful cast of secondaries, like Lacey, made it better. This is the first book that I've read by J.M. Stewart, and her talented writing style, instantly transported me to Angel Bay, and frankly, I was mad when I found myself home again. Not only did she write a beautiful story of second chances, but I will say again, the way she portrayed domestic abuse was very realistic, and not easy nor glorified in it's aftermath. Not to mention that whole keep me on my toes OMG factor, had me ready jump out of my skin. Needless to say, that I'm going to have to read all of her prior books, especially Luc, so I'm going to HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND Nic to ALL!

Achingly beautiful and heartbreakingly shattering story of survival, healing, and true love. It breaks them into a million little pieces and it has to, to be able to make new again, built a completely new so one can heal, to find courage to stand up for themselves, and to learn what love really is, how it is to trust, love and to be loved, and still be safe in the arms of your forever mate.
The story pulled me right in and I was mesmerized with the characters, the flow of the tale, and how those two broken souls, find peace, love, and safety for their hearts with each other.
Nic has dedicated his life to the family restaurant and his daughter after his wife walked out on them. Not even dating since the divorce couple years back, he has no need for a relationship, not to mention one with major complications.
But when Anna and her daughter Lacey show up in his family restaurant one night looking for work, Nic feel drawn to her, wanting to help, to keep them safe, give them a new chance in life.
And the journey they take from there, though it has nightmares, danger, and pain, it is the road towards healing and mending hearts, to learning to trust, and love, care, and protect like never before.
This sensitive and poignant story got straight to my heart. It is at times dire and violent to get the whole picture of the torture Anna has gone through in her life, but with the healing love of the community, and with the support and care of Nic, they find something worth holding on to, something worth working on, something more special than most because of the drastic situation it grew from. The images are vivid and colorful and might be triggering to those suffered from abuse, even though the message of the story is filled with hope and faith for better tomorrows.

4 1/2 STARS!

Shattered from years of abuse, a young woman sets out to find peace for her daughter … and lucks into finding a gentle, kind soul who won’t let them live in fear anymore! Easy to like characters who bring a realness to the story make you have a vested interest in seeing them through to a happy ending.

On the run from her abusive ex-husband for years, Anna Thompson just wants a real home and consistent life for her young daughter. She thought she was getting settled, and then he found her again. Now she’s hit an all time low with no job, no money and no place to stay when she lands in Angel Bay, Washington. She hears of a possible job opening, and sets out to try to get it.

When Nic Rossi sees the women and child in his restaurant, he can tell they are in dire straights. He can tell someone has hurt them before and they need a gentle hand to help them. He gives her a job and sets her up with a safe place to stay and shows them kindness. They all relax into this safe place they have forged until danger gets near again.

When her ex finds her again, will she find the strength to stay and fight for the life she’s made here, or will her fear of endangering Nic and his young daughter make her flee and start over again?

Nic by JM Stewart is the second book in the Rossi Brothers series. Where to start…I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down! From the outset, my heart went out to Anna. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what she went through getting to where she was today. Anna was an extremely strong character. As a reader you could feel every emotion that she was experiencing.
And Nic, he’s the type of hero that you dream about. He had such heart and passion. I loved how Nic gave Anna the room she needed to grow. In the end, can Anna go on with her life after living with her abusive husband? Will she let Nic in and allow herself to love again?

Nic is a fantastic read that I highly recommend. Nic deals with some sensitive subject matters that Ms. Stewart handles well and doesn’t overpower the true storyline of learning to find a happily ever after. I’d like to disclose I voluntarily read Nic and am providing a true and honest review.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book

After reading Luc, I knew I was going to want this book. I now have a New Book Boyfriend. Nic is a big Beautiful man. Inside and out.
JoAnn is one of the best writes today on some very important issues we face in this country today. And that is abuse and PTSD. She touches every emotion, from being scared, hurt, angry and concerned.
This book gives you all of that. Not only how it effects the person it is happening to, but the people around as well. This books shows how love can heal all wounds. You just have to be brave enough to take a step. And Joann tells just how to do that in this book.
I will always one click any book with JM Stewart on it.

This is one of those rare occurrences where the sequel is every bit as good as the first. I didn't think it would be possible for Stewart to replicate the emotional intensity of Luc, but she did and she did it very well. This book is at once intense and emotional but at the same time, tender and sweet and full of hope. It works well as a standalone or as the sequel to Luc. It's hard not to fall in love with Nic, the gentle teddy bear who is also a daddy and a successful restaurant owner. But your heart also goes out to Anna--a divorced, single mother on the run from an abusive ex. Stewart makes it easy to feel Anna's fear and Nic's anger. I look forward to more books from J.M. Stewart!

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Anna is escaping her abusive ex-husband when her funds run out in Angel Bay. She is looking for a job and is given the direction for Nic Rossi. Nic sees the position she is in and offers a job and a lace to stay for her and her daughter Lacey.

Nic sets out to gain Anna's trust so that she is able to build the future she wants instead of hiding in fear. Nic and Anna grow closer and Anna slowly starts to trust again aided by Nic's relationship with his daughter Ella and seeing how he is with Lacey.

Just when everything is going well in their relationship, it is threatened by her ex-husband. They both have to fight to be together.

Wow, this story was powerful! Once I started this book I had no clue what was going on around me I was so drawn into this story. The author incorporated a heated romance, heartwarming story, with suspense that kept you on the edge of your seat.

"Nic" by J.M. Stewart is book number two in the "Rossi Brothers" series. This is Anna Thompson and Nic Rossi's story.

Anna divorced her husband several years ago. Anna is hoping that Angel Bay will be a good place for her to raise her daughter and to hide out from her abusive ex. She is desperate to find a job to stay in Angel Bay.

Nic is a quiet and kind man raising his daughter with the kind of love that he was raised with. He meets Anna when she comes into his restaurant to find a job. Anna has a hard time trusting people but accepts Nic's offer of a job and help.

Due to their bad past relationships neither Nic nor Anna are looking for a relationship. They both feel the attraction between them. Will they be able to ignore these feelings? Will Anna's ex catch up with her?

Nic and Anna's characters were great. But, I fell in love with Nic. He was just wonderful! This is a must read! This can be read as a standalone but I intend to go back and read Luc's story. J.M. Stewart stories just keep getting better and better.

FYI, includes mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Anna Thompson and her daughter Lacey are on the run from an abusive ex-husband who will stop at nothing to find her. Anna and Lacey wind up in Angel Bay where Anna set out to find a job to help support her and her daughter. She finds herself in a restaurant late one night begging for a job when she first meets Nic. At first she is intimidated by the size of the man due to the trauma of her ex’s abuse but soon learns the man is a gentle giant.

Nic was first introduced to us in Luc (book #1 in the Russi Brothers series). Nic is a single parent himself and his sole focus is on his daughter. He had no intention of trying to find love, he wife leaving the two of them turned his heart cold towards relationships, until the night Anna and Lacey walk into his restaurant. He sees the fear in Anna’s eyes and knows she is hiding from something or someone.

Guys, this story, wow I just don’t really know who to put it into words. It was deeply emotional and suspenseful. I felt like I was right in the book with the characters and feeling every emotion with them. I have read several books by this author and they really just keep getting better. While this book contains sensitive material (abuse by the ex-husband) it gives up hope for second chances at love and finding a HEA. I cannot recommend this book enough.

I received an eARC of this book compliments of the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.

Wow! Can someone please tell me where I can find a guy like Nic Rossi? OMG! He's romantic, sexy, scrumptious, and best of all, the steadiest man on earth! JM Stewart has outdone herself, creating a hero to die for and a damaged and fragile heroine who eventually discovers how strong she really is. As an avid reader of this author's work, I have enjoyed all of her books (I think I still have a couple I haven't read yet), but NIC blows them all out of the water! Seriously ~ you won't want to miss this !
