The witches of Hidden Coven are protected by dark wards and guided by a mad seer.
But keeping the coven secret is becoming increasingly hard as a true demon sniffs around their border, looking to steal their most precious resource—magic.
In this complete series of five novellas, Bobbi Cole progresses from a novice spell-caster, who is more powerful and dangerous than anyone guesses, to a warrior and protector who must lay her life and sanity on the line if the coven is to survive.
Quinn Mason has his own demons to fight, including his knee-jerk reaction not to trust this new, untested witch thrust into his life.
Together, Bobbi and Quinn confront the family secrets that set their story in motion long before they were even born.
You’ll be hooked on this dark romantic suspense story because it’s a wild rollercoaster of an adventure with more than human lives at stake.
If Kim McDougall could have one magical superpower, it would be to talk to animals. Or maybe to shift into animal form. Definitely, fantastical critters and magic often feature in her stories. So until she can change into a Griffin and fly away, she writes dark paranormal action and romance tales. Kim is also passionate about fiber art, photography, children’s literacy, rescue animals, nature, and genre-bending fiction. She also writes for children under pen name Kim Chatel.
Hidden Coven: The Complete Series by Kim McDougall comprises five novellas, Inborn Magic, Soothed by Magic, Trigger Magic, Bellwether Magic, and Gone Magic. The main characters are Bobbi, the incompetent witch who is inherently more powerfully dangerous than she guesses, and Quinn, Head of Security at a unique village hidden in the hills of Pennsylvania. Bobbi runs an ordinary wool shop until an irresistible magic experiment causes a fire. Time to learn how to control her powers, right? And where better than the nearby coven? Quinn does not welcome a wannabe witch, but his story and hers were entwined before they were born. Rules of magic have their own logic that holds good throughout what is both a love story and a wild rollercoaster of adventure where more than human lives are at stake.
Hidden Coven is the best boxed set I’ve ever read. Each novella stands alone, with a few unobtrusive reminders dropped in, but I didn’t need them. I read one after the other, constantly astounded by how the already well-grounded characters, the plot, and the suspense increased. Will Bobbi learn to control her dark magic and use it to defeat a demon, or must she allow Jane, mistress of the coven, to use the weapon entrusted to her by The Lady? Will Bobbi’s lover, Quinn, even survive, sick with mawr that allows the mildest infection to drain his aether, his magic strength? In Hidden Coven, Kim McDougall has created magic worlds that will captivate paranormal suspense fans and convert thousands of others.
Be prepared to immerse yourself in a skin-tingling romance wrapped expertly in the dark cloak of an evil demon and the desire for self-understanding. Bobby's journey from bumbling spells to carving out new skills had me turning pages faster and faster with every bump and grind. McDougall's ability to paint such a believable world, from the darkest recesses to what grounds our humanity and hope, allowed me to fall into this book and never want to leave.
Great book about the fight between good and evil, within yourself and between humans and demons. I read this book within 24 hours as I just couldn't put it down.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.
A super fun book. In a world of magic and mysticism meet Bobbi and Quinn, a very interesting couple who desire to do important and courageous feats. Hidden Coven witches protect their world with magic, the most valuable resource. However, their magic is not all-powerful, they constantly suffer attacks, so they are always alert. One day, a demon imminently decides to attack the Hidden Coven. Bobbi trains to become a warrior and protector of her world. Her friend Quinn deals with his personal problems, luckily he has Bobbi's unconditional support. They decide to start their adventure against the malevolous demon. They will need to work as a team if they want to be successful. A magnificent book that I enjoyed from start to finish. I loved Quinn, his personality so eloquent and chivalrous with Bobbi. I love the perfect combination of fantasy and romance elements. I'm glad I was able to read this book that Voracious Readers Only provided me, thank you so much for brightening up my day.
The Coven The Complete series Bks 1-5 By Kim McDougall.
I have to admit I haven’t read any of Ms McDougall’s book’s before, but to say I was drawn into her world of magic, demons, witches and spells, that often go wrong, is an understatement. I was enthralled with the imagery and her descriptive style which automatically takes you into this unique and intriguing story. One where it’s so easy to imagine exactly what Bobbi and Quinn are dealing with as they try to solve the ongoing events and problems they’re continually faced with Paranormal and the Supernatural are my favorite genrès and it is great to read such variety within the characters, both good and bad. Within the events these two tenacious characters find themselves dealing with the Author has done a terrific job of bringing the web she has woven throughout the different book’s together to bring everything united into an exciting and suspense filled action packed set of circumstances that Bobbi and Quinn have to try and bring to a positive conclusion. Not wanting to give anything away, all I can say is if Urban fantasy is a favorite of yours then you cannot miss out reading this intriguing and adventurous series it will take you into a world you would never expect. I highly recommend you grab this whole series today
- 3 stars. this reads more like teen fiction rather than a novel about a 30 year old woman, and i'm not a fan of teen fiction.
still, the story is interesting and kept me reading. i didn't enjoy the second novella at all with her being magically controlled by another guy and being clueless about it. and i could have done without the romance. the final novella of the five is the best.
all in all this wasn't bad. it just wasn't as GOOD as the valkyrie bestiary series. this series was written first. i absolutely loved her valkyrie bestiary series, which reads more as an adult series, so comparing the two series' leaves this one lacking.
there was also a plot failure when she opened a door to another dimension. the coven posts guards, and only AFTER creatures escape thru the door does the coven cast a spell to close it. they could have done that the whole time? then why did they wait?
- a confusing thing is that goodreads lists the first book 'inborn magic' as a m/m romance, except there is nothing of the sort even hinted at in that first book. bobbi is a girl, quinn is a boy, standard f/m budding romance. in the last two books there is a m/m relationship casually mentioned, but no sexy times are ever shared or even referred to.
"the way she watched me - like i was a chimpanzee that surprised everyone with full speech - made me nervous."
"you went somewhere far away. was the weather nice?" "just a little worry and self-recrimination to pass the time."
"i'm trying to clean up my mess and i'd appreciate your support. instead you treat me like a glass flower, afraid i'll break if i step the wrong way."
"even when he was a small boy, she downplayed his hurts. if his skinned knee didn't pain her, it shouldn't bother him."
Books 1 through 4 were fine-ish. I don't know that I would have made it past the second if I had acquired them individually. Part of the problem was that the characters and the relationships didn't get fleshed out - the fact that the leading lady was ensorcelled for much of the second book didn't help either. After reading the first four I thought there were the bones of a decent background story but that every just stayed sort of superficial. And that point I just didn't care enough about how this turned out because I wasn't invested in the the leads.
At the end of book 4 I didn't plan to finish this collection, but I hadn't gotten around to downloading something else so... I did end up reading book 5 after all and it did a good job of wrapping things up. And because of book 5, am giving the whole thing an extra half star from my rating of books 1 through 4. Even though this ended well, I enjoyed this author's more recent Valkyrie Bestiary books much more.
Trigger warnings: Mentions of past rapes, and attempted rape of the leading lady.

I found this series after reading Kim's Valkyrie Bestiary series. A totally untrained witch nearly destroys a nearby hidden coven when she reaches into her untapped magic while trying a basic spell. She is saved by a withc and brought to a hidden coven where they try and teach her to manage her magic. She is resistant and runs away, but little does she know the danger she is putting herself and the coven in. There is evil at work in the world and she just may be the key. There is a little bit of steam, but a lot of push and shove romantically. When the main characters track into an unknown world to save everyone after the main character has once again created damage not knowing how to control her magic, danger lurks around every corner. Can they all make it back safe and still save their world? The hidden coven series is a quick, fun read. It is a slightly different take on other witch stories I have read. If you are looking for a quick, fun story with witchy vibes and a little bit of romance, check it out!
Hidden coven is a complete serie book that consists of : inborn magic , soothed by magic , trigger magic , bellwether magic and gone magic .. following bobbie who is a novice witcher still trying to know her powers and quinn , the head of security of the hidden coven , a secret magical community set in the real world .. together they embark on a journey to save the coven and the witches from a monstrous demon threatening their existence..
I enjoyed this book so much🤩 .. i loved bobbie’s character development.. she did seem like a magnet for disasters but she got more mature and strong in each book🖤 .. i loved quinn❤️ .. he’s by no doubt my fav character 🖤🖤
Hidden coven is a combination of 5 novellas serie .. so there might be some reputation of events from book to book (to remind the reader) which irked me a bit .. otherwise it was such an enjoyable read full of suspense and mystery…😍😍
The collection of five novellas follows Bobbi, a witch with erratic and chaotic magic, dive into the world of witchcraft, demons, covens, and other realms. Meeting Quinn, a handsome wizard, and finding her way into the Hidden Coven. The novellas uncover Bobbi's origins and lead in the end to a battle against the evil, which increases the sacrifices made and the cost on lives. Reading the novellas one after another felt a little disjointed, considering the time breaks between the events in each of the five books. I also liked some of the characters - mostly Quinn and Abilene, a little mixed feelings on Bobbi but still on the positive side, difficult to accept Jane despite fully understanding where she is coming from. However, I struggled to create a real connection and felt my motivation to continue decrease somewhere about the 4th book - picking up the speed again in the final one, which was a nice wrap of the whole story, so in general it was a satisfying read.
The hidden coven was hiding from a demon who wanted to inhabit our world and take away our magic force, our spirits. Four naive, silly young women found a spell to summon a daemon but instead they were transported to his world and held captive in his castle. Koro sent them all home each carrying his child. This combination of books tell of the threat to the coven and our world and just what the witches are going to do about it. As you read, you see the characters grow and come into their own. I loved that as the huge battle came near, they had all truly become family, however odd the combinations may be.
I really enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. It’s the first time I’ve read a book by Kim McDougall but think I will have to read the rest of this series now. I loved the characters Bobbi the novice witch and Quinn with the experienced magic. Bobbi’s first spell ends up paralysing her but Quinn and his sister came to the rescue, only to introduce her to a world of real magic where she becomes the real hero. Definitely worth a read. I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the author through voracious readers in return for an honest review.
Was very good. The stories were clean, and made sense together.
It almost makes me wonder if Bobbi's world is the start of what becomes Kyra's.
Like all of Kim's books, I devoured them. Reading all five in under three days.
I al so glad I was able to read them all together. They flowed together like one long book - and it might have been jarring to deal with the transitions. Despite how clean and well-done they were.
All in all : would recommend and might read again.
The Hidden Coven Series jumps right into a great adventure filled with dangerous situations in magical worlds where nothing and no one can be trusted. As the characters learn about themselves, the world around them, and the difficult mastery of magic springing out in their lands, they must find ways to work together to prevent humanity’s destruction. It’s a definite page-turner to the very end.
I read this entire adult fantasy series in a very short time. I couldn’t put them down. The ride took me along Bobbi’s journey from bumbling new witch as she fled from danger and her demon father. Was there really an escape? Or would Bobbi have to sacrifice herself to save her world from the powerful aether-drinking demon, Koro? You’´´ have to read to find out.
Excellent and well written series taking you through the entire story of Bobbi's early experimenting with magic through to her recognition of being a powerful magic user. She uncovers her story as to why she has been pursued her entire life and learns to fight to protect those she cares about. I received my copy as a readers ARC and willingly offer my honest opinion
The books had a few places that were dark, and I was a little afraid the story would plunge deep. However, after the dark came the light, and the story ended in a good place. It was a great story that I found hard to put down. I was a little sad when it ended, but it was a good ending.
This series of books follow Bobbi as she grows from not even sure she’s a witch to coming to terms with her extraordinary power. She has supportive family and friends as well as questionable allies helping along the way. I appreciate that she isn’t perfect and experienced bumps and accidents on her journey. Well worth the read.
At first I was not sure I would like this book. It started off slow. I liked the characters so I stuck with it. Glad I did. This storyline was a slow until it wasn't. It got really good at the half way point. Then I did not want to put it down until I finished it. The book had a great ending.
Bobbie is an untrained witch trying to learn on her one without help her magic is uncontrolled. The five books in this omnibus tell the story of how Bobbie grows and we are introduced to people who can help her on her journey of self discovery. Quinn is one of these people and the books also tell of their growing love.
Good series with plottwists. Liked reading these books. Lots happening, slow burn romance, many creatures who are good and bad, the parents point: that was a shock. But it was woven into the story quite well while abuse is often a turndown for me. I did read the series in two days.
Kim McDougal is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Her alternate realities are rich and believable. Her characters engaging and a fast moving storyline.
I read this series after the Valkyrie bestiary series. Hidden Coven isn't as well done as the Valkyrie series but it's enjoyable and certainly worth the read.
This book sometimes felt like that dream where you suddenly realize you are riding in the back seat of a car but no one is driving. There also seems to be a strong unspoken connection between the Hidden Coven series and the Valkyrie Beastiary series. I won't say how here (because, you know, spoilers and all that) but, I would totally recommend reading the Hidden Coven series first and follow it up with the prequel to the Valkyrie Beastiary series Three Half-Goats Gruff and so on. It won't take long to spot the connection. Have Fun! And Happy Reading ! ! ! !
When I chose this book to read I had no idea it was a compendium of 5 books, so it was a long, but easy read. I met Bobbi a young witch who is called on to help save a coven of witches that is under threat. First, she must hone her skills and learn how to control her powers and then do battle with the evil that intends to destroy them all. An interesting read, with some interesting futuristic ideas.
