I got this book as part of the Dark and Dangerous, Six-in-One Hot Paranormal Romances Boxed Set. This is the third book in the Vampire Erotic Theatre series.
Ok. This one was maybe 2 - 2.5 Stars. I didn't DISlike it, but I didn't necessarily LIKE it either. It read sort of like watching a video porno. Lots of sex, but not much plot. Paranormal isn't really my cup o' tea, but I can handle simple vampire and werewolf stories that don't get to crazy with other mythological beings and whatnot. This story just had vampires, so the paranormal aspect was alright for me.
On an erotic level, this story was maybe 3.5-4 Stars. There was A LOT of sex and most of it was good enough to get me hot and bothered. As the story progressed, however, I found myself skimming the sex stuff because there was a lot of words about their feelings and his struggle with his past hurts and whatnot and just got a bit redundant.
Antoine was nearly killed by a vampire he was very close to about 200 years ago. He also had a 100 year relationship with a female vampire who just up and left with no explanation. Vanished into thin air. Plus there's the little genetic problem of uncontrollable bloodlust. So he has A LOT of reason to distance himself from people (er, vampires as the case may be). Sera is a young vampire (she's only been a vampire for 30 years). She's had her eye on Antoine for awhile and she finally gets an opportunity to seduce him. So the story is about them finding love with each other, or more about her making him see that he's worthy of love and that he deserves happiness.
Here's my biggest issue with the story: Yes, Antoine was "damaged" goods and he was all angsty (as he had a right to be), but about 90% of the story was about his angst. It just kinda got to the point where I wanted to go into the story and kick him in his mangina. Sera is a character with a wealth of patience, compassion, and understanding. Her devotion to the man (although he was worthy of her love), was almost stalkerish. She was willing to blindly look past anything negative just to be close to him. Also, there wasn't a whole lot to the plot. He was all angsty over his previous lover just up and vanishing on him and then when she suddenly makes a reappearance (as all slimy ex bitches do...), he doesn't try to bombard her with questions like, "Where the fuck have you been for the last 300 some odd years, Bitch? And why did you leave me?" Sera gets all jealous (OBVIOUSLY) and he's just like, "Ok. She's gone. I don't even have to be the one to tell her so." It just felt incomplete. She either shouldn't have come back at all, or there should've been some sort of showdown, even if it was a civilized discussion. Instead there was zero resolution.
The story wasn't awful, but it could've been so much more. It was short, so that was a definite point in the 'plus' column. And most of the sex was good. But the almost complete lack of a plot limited the number of stars I'm willing to give this story. It might be right up someone else's alley, but it just wasn't for me... If you just want a lot of sex, this is the story for you! If you like some sustenance with your sex, you're likely to be as disappointed as I am...
