How well do you really know the people you love? When Alexander Thompson gets the call that his wife and newborn daughter have been rushed into hospital, he has no idea just how drastically his life is about to change. When alcoholic therapist, Rachael, is assigned his case, she finds herself drawn into his trauma, despite her initial misgivings. The more she learns about Alex, the more her own secrets begin to push their way to the surface. But can she let go of her shameful past and face her addiction once and for all? Can old hurts ever be truly healed? A heart-wrenching, edge of your seat novella from the author of The Promise and One More Tomorrow.
I really enjoyed this short novel. It’s told from two perspectives Alex whose wife and bandy daughter have been killed by a car and his therapist. She is struggling with a drink problem and her life is at rock bottom. She really needs help to. It follows their relationship as it develops with a few twists along the way. It’s a great book I wished it had been longer 😊
I have read three other books by this author and loved them all. I was excited to read about an alcoholic therapist but this weak and predictable plot was sophomoric. It was like a freshman creative writing assignment. I know its a novella but there was zero character development. You can easily skip this one.
My first Sam Vickery. I don’t usually read short stories but this one sounded interesting and was longer than most. A woman and her baby are killed in a hit and run. The husband’s reactions are well written and believable. The end.....I did not see coming. A good read.
