Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.
Enid Blyton’s Famous Five stories have been a strong part of many children’s childhood’s due to their gripping stories suitable for children in year 3 and 4. The book “George’s Hair is too long” explores how The Famous Five save the day after a safe is stolen and George and Mr Pail end up trapped in a cupboard. This story explores the theme of right and wrong. Blyton clearly displays the robbery as negative and as a crime later on as the police are called. This book, well all The Famous Five stories, also breaks gender stereotypes as the main character is this story, George, is determined to not be seen as a stereotypical girl and therefore dresses like a boy and wants short hair and is portrayed as sporty and strong.
I liked this book very Much but there is a couple of things I didn't like for example how fast the story goes like in the barbershop it says: so they looked for the scissors then two burglars broke in loked them in a safe and leaved. that is why I say it goes by too fast there are ZERO details they made amazing illustrations and horrible writing (shame on you guid blyton)so that is why I told you I don't like the writing so I gave it a three because I like the idea but I don't like the writing itself so I gave it a 3 you know so it is even because you can't rate a book 2.5 on goodreads (or can you?) so It looked really good from the outside but really not that good in the inside like they say don't judge a book by its cover so anyway this is a long review for a short book (story) so let's not make it any longer so bye!!!!!!
George wanted to get her hair cut, otherwise it could get as long as Anne’s. She went to the hairdressers but it was closed, so she went to the ironmongers to borrow scissors. While she was there two people came in who were going to steal the safe! The robbers locked the ironmonger and George in a cupboard. Julian, Dick and Anne set them free. The robbers had a flat tyre and got caught by the police.
Seru banget baca ini. Padahal ini cuma cerita pendek.
Jadi ceritanya George pengen potong rambut, tapi tukang potong rambutnya mau pergi. Jadi si George mau pinjem guntingnya buat motong sendiri. Pas lagi di dalem tempat potong rambutnya mau ambil gunting. Ada dua orang penjahat bobol masuk ambil brankas. George dan Mr. Pails dikurung di lemari.
Sharing childhood favourites with the kids is always a bit of a worry. Apart from a few words that were not words we use, this re-illustrated Famous Five story was a real treat.
I was confused the whole time I read this book because Jorge was referred to with feminine pronouns. It wasn't until I read a review of the book that I realized why. Jorge is a GIRL! Hmmm. Ok. I was still confused.
The size of the text didn't always seem to correspond to anything in particular. Larger, darker fonts were peppered throughout. However, I didn't always feel that emphasis was appropriate. Was it just to catch the readers' eye or did the font changes have something to do with how the words should be read? It wasn't clear to me.
Fun, silly, kid appeal--but didn't bowl me over. If you like this one, is is part of a series: Los Cinco.
