There are some things being a billionaire can't save you from...An accidental Vegas wedding is one of them... Welcome to The Cove With heavy iron gates, two security stations, and a groundskeeper's cottage, The Cove has everything a billionaire could ask for in a home. Dubbed Billionaire Bachelor Cove because of the resident's single status and income portfolios, The Cove is the perfect place to hide away from the world. But, as the residents soon find out, they can't hide from love. When Koven Kent, self-made billionaire, discovers a bumped and bruised car in The Cove and learns that Jamon’s distant cousin from Texas has arrived to mooch off her billionaire cousin, Koven is immediately on guard. He’s is ready to send this gold digger on her way—until he meets Sky.Sky Bowen is put off by Koven’s offensive remarks. She’s a biochemist and excited to take on a new job in Jamon’s lab not some freeloader here to take advantage of her cousin. She tells Koven off and vows to keep her distance. However, one night in Vegas, after an extra dose of potent cough syrup and a run in with Sky’s ex, Koven and Sky find themselves at a drive through chapel. Ten minutes later, they’re man and wife. The marriage is a limited time business agreement and Sky knows the cash pay off will be worth tolerating Koven, at least for a little while. However, pretending to love a handsome billionaire becomes easier as she gets to know him, which creates another problem altogether. When Koven and Sky admit their feelings, outside forces seem determined to keep them apart. Is Koven and Sky’s love strong enough to conquer her past and his father’s scheming? Or will they concede, what was between them was counterfeit after all?
Again, too short. Some more character and relationship development would have been nice. But overall it was a cute story. And it's almost unbelievable how descent and good Sky and Koven were. :) I liked them. Narrative: 3rd person following Sky and Koven Religion: not really (allusions to faith) Sensuality: clean
That was actually pretty awesome. This might be the first book I’ve read by Erica Penrod, but it was absolutely delightful. Sure the storyline was a bit contrived, but it’s fiction after all, and it was all tastefully done with just enough realism in the actions and dialogue between characters to make the book enjoyable. By the end of the book I truly believed that Sky and Koven were in love I loved both characters and the author has a surprising and delightful knack for humor. I laughed out loud multiple times over. That being said, I didn’t like revenge being the drive for Sky’s marital decision. It was a bit of a stretch, but also it was sinful and didn’t reflect well on her character. Although it didn’t diminish my liking of her character overall, it was wrong and any regret for the revenge centered reaction itself was never addressed. Lastly, and this is no real complaint at all, I could not for the life of me figure out what “slighting” your eyes at someone meant, a term that the author used multiple times, but it was more quirky and amusing than it was bothersome.
FOUR AND A HALF STARS! For the clean and hilarious novel
I love the Bachelor Cove series! Sky and Koven are instant enemies when Koven thinks she is moving to Seattle to take advantage of her cousin and his best friend, Jamon. The two are ready to face off when they suddenly find themselves stuck together one night with Koven in a drug induced state of oblivion and infatuation. Sky finds herself his babysitter, but doesn't want to appear that way when her ex boyfriend confronts her. It becomes a very tangled web of deceit and frustration after that, but perhaps something good can emerge from the mess. Such a darling story - I only wish it was longer! I couldn't enough!
Normally I like most of her books, but this one was hard to like. The characters spent the first half of the book disliking each other, then they get married and what should have been a chance to get to know one another just became a way to get them talking to each other. There was little chemistry and no depth to their relationship. He stayed a jerk most of the time, she stayed at work all the time, and suddenly they love each other. Not my favorite.
I enjoyed the book up to roughly the halfway point or about when the story moved on from Las Vegas. I can appreciate a good insta-love story but this one I felt kind of fell flat after the counterfeit wedding. I’m not going to include any spoilers so don’t worry. But the ‘strange love at first fight’ got them to the altar but for me to buy into it being a ‘lasting love’ I needed to see more of them building a relationship post-nuptials/pre-epilogue. Rating: PG
I have mixed feelings about this! I loved how the story opened - I liked knowing characters from previous books and bringing that character depth to this story - and the distrust/resentment between Koven and Sky felt plausible. The Vegas incident and how things played out initially was on point, but I reallllly wish there'd been more character development and depth instead of a flat coast to HEA. This started out a lot stronger than it wrapped.
This book entertained me with its sweet story. There were several times I laughed out loud when Koven, one of the main characters, had a strong reaction to his cough medicine and went from distant and difficult to being sloppy, super-affectionate, and agreeable. He and Sky wound up in a hilarious drive-through wedding chapel in Las Vegas with her ex as wedding photographer. It was so ludicrous and it cracked me up!
I guess I expected Sky to be deeper, more 'developed' as a character, than she was. It got a bit better toward the end, but not enough to be satisfying. The story was fine. I would have enjoyed deeper more engaging characters.
This was a fun quick read. I would have loved it longer only because it was a great story with engaging characters and lots of possibilities. But even with that, it was well crafted and all tied up in a nice story bow.
The love story was very very poorly developed. The instant attraction between the couple was well written but then for no apparent reason, without any explanation of the protagonists' good qualities or why they would fall for each other, they were in love.
I love this bachelor cove series, even if it is a fantasy, it is so nice to visit there. Excellent character and wonderfully written. Recommend it highly.
Having read the first story of this series and awarding five stars, I decided to try this second story in the series. However, after reading the synopsis on Amazon, I had my doubts that there was a way to make an impromptu Las Vegas wedding between a skittish billionaire and a penniless new lab worker he had known for less than a week anywhere near believable. Congratulations, Erica, you did it! Not only was the story believable, but it was also entertaining, and fun to read.
I detected only a single word usage error that escaped discovery by the editors. In the scene where Koven ordered a helicopter to pick them up on a rooftop. The text reads that the helicopter hovered until the skids touched the “ground.” By definition, “ground" means the “bare surface of the earth.” Ergo, the text should have read that the skids touched the “deck” or “roof.” I mention this here because so many authors use the word "ground" incorrectly.
My criteria for awarding stars to authors is quite extensive. The single word usage error being the only discovered deficiency, I am pleased to join with those other reviewers who awarded Ms. Penrod a full five stars.
Simple, cute read. There was a lot of build up to start the book and then bam! They decided they loved each other. I would have liked more info after the marriage and less drama up front. It’s not clear why they feel in love.
