The Midnight Dragon’s Mate is a standalone dragon shifter romance with a sexy Marine veteran hero, a smart heroine, adorable children, and a sizzling touch of action. No cliffhangers!
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
The characters are different, but besides that, pretty much the same as the first book.
I stuck to the end because I am stubborn and I thought I will find something that will keep me going with the series, especially because there are not that many dragon shifter stories out there. At least not the good ones.
But this felt like a copy-paste from the first book. I didn't feel like I learned anything new. This might be the end for me as far as this series is concerned.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I buy most of Zoe Chant’s books because I love her HEAs and her style of writing! I will own this one soon!
The cover is awesome, but this is no surprise!
I love this series! This is the second book in the series. It is not required, but I would read book 1 before you read this one because then you know the history of this pack and the rival pack. This is for adults due to the steamy content.
Lachlan and his son are awesome, and they were easy to love in this book as well as Cam. They fit together as a family well. And they get through things together. This was an easy read that made me smile.
I highly recommend to any shifter fans especially if you love mixed shifter communities who come together when trouble comes calling. If I need a book to make my day better, Zoe Chants are a go to for it.
Camellia "Cam" Lane, a botanist who was up in the Appalachian Mountains doing some research for her boss at New Life Pharmaceuticals. She also came to help her best-friend, Lila, who was struggling with her two children after the loss of her husband one year ago. Cam never wanted to settle down and have a family.
She found an unknown plant and was all set to write up her report when her life was rocked by an incredible and unexpected encounter with a little boy by the name of Aidan. She saw something that left her spellbound, she wasn't leaving until she found the absolute truth.
Lachlan Hayes, the diner owner in Oak Ridge who we've met in THE RED DRAGON'S BABY. He was a Dragon shifter who was playing out in the woods with his six-year-old son when the little one decided to ran off without a warning. When he did find him, Aidan wasn't alone. He was with the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen.
His inner animal as well as his human side were very intrigued by Cam. They didn't want to say goodbye to her so he asked her out to lunch. They talked about got to know each other better and the attraction between them was mutual. She also found out some very interesting things about her best-friend's late husband and his boss, Victor.
As they spent more time together, Lachlan realized why he was mesmerized by her. She was his mate but she was reluctant to accept his claim. Then her friend Lila talked some since into her. Speaking of Lila, she found herself in peril when Victor Leone tried pushing to get her and her children to change their living arrangement.
It was great to catch up with Katie, Noah and Ronan. Even though the enemy was still planning another attack, the Oak Ridge community went on with their lives. And were very vigilant. Cam finally got her HEA.
THE MIDNIGHT DRAGON'S MATE is the second book in Zoe Chant's SHIFTER DADS series. It was beautiful, fast-paced and very interesting. Fabulous job by Zoe Chant!
****I received a free copy from the author, without any obligation to review.****
This one was fun! I liked how Cam found out about shifters, talk about bieng shocked. I thought that Cam might have freaked out when learning about dragons, but instead she was pretty calm, probably the scientist coming out in her, her mind working on all the questions she needed to ask.
I loved how excited Aiden was to learn that Cam was a scientist and how he inundated her with questions. It gave Cam a different view of kids. It was funny to see Cam so enthralled to see Lachlan cook too. She was so amazed by the process and eating all the yummy things.
Cam's freak out about learning about mates and that she was Lachlan's made sense. She laid out some clues about her past and how she felt her mother was trapped by marriage and kids. About the only good thing to come out of the freak out was that Cam was there for Lila when the big bad lions started to push her around. I loved how things went from there, for Lila to see that there were complete strangers there to help her because she needed it. It was also great for Cam to see that all she had to do is ask for help and Lachlan was there to do whatever was needed.
I really liked how this one ended, liked that Cam realized she can have it all, Lachlan, Aiden and her career.
This is Lachlan and Camellia's story. Cam is a botanist who loves being with her plants, and as she is doing her plant research, Aidan runs into her. Lachlan and Cam are mates. Poor Cam flees not sure she could handle being a mate to Lachlan and a Mum to Aidan. It all works out in the end, Lachlan and Cam get their HEA. Victor, the villain, is hatching some evil schemes to get back at Oak Ridge, from the previous book but I know these wonderful DRAGONS will win in the end. 4 stars****
3.5-4 Stars Liked that Cam was a professional, a doctor, a scientist, and had her own dreams to pursue. Liked that Lachlan wasn't done boring Alpha male. Liked how they worked out their relationship, even with the shifter mate bond thing. Cam and Lachlan and Aiden turned out to be really adorable together. Also liking the building suspense with the lions.
I'm so enjoying the Shifter Dads series. Loved Lachlan and Aiden but Cam was too one dimensional and that made it harder to like her. She did eventually made the right decision. A big part of the story was about Cam's friend Lila and her kids. The next book is about them and Flynn and I'm eager to see how it all works out for this gruff griffin shifter.
No redeeming of the terrible bad guy. So stupid his reasoning. The MC were so not exciting and a bit boring. Chemistry between them? What chemistry? Loved the son though.
This is a sweet dragon shifter romance (but it does have steamy scenes), with a mostly likable couple. I liked Lachlan a lot; he was just a sweetheart. Cam was a little harder to like, with her determination to not let herself love anyone. She did get over that pretty quickly, but she hurt Lachlan first. I also liked that the whole town came together to save her friend Lila and her family. I'm looking forward to Lila's story next.
The story was a bit too short to have as much character development as I'd like. I needed more backstory on both Lachlan and Cam. I especially needed more on Cam, in order to understand her fear of love and commitment.
One problem I have with all of this author's series is that there is so long between books. Lots of times I have to go back and reread some of the earlier books in a series, simply because it has been so long that I don't remember all the characters. That is frustrating. I know that this author writes lots of books -- but I wish she would concentrate on one series at a time, so that the books could be published closer together.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
THE MIDNIGHT DRAGON’S MATE is the second story in the Shifter Dads series where we first met Lachlan. The tensions between the shifters of Oak Ridge and the villain are growing stronger and sooner or later something will have to give. And there will be confrontations but this time we have Lachlan, Aidan, and Camellia meeting under unusual circumstances – every parent’s worst nightmare when they look away for just a moment and their child is not where they should be.
Cam is a scientist studying unusual plants in this small, almost hidden area near her friend’s home. The last thing she expected to break the silence around her was a little boy’s questions – or the appearance of a very worried father, worried enough to let a human see his shifter form. Everything that Cam has known for certain her entire life has just flown out the window, or perhaps, just landed in this quiet, remote field. Cam believes in facts, things that can be proven but what she’s just seen defies all logic and science. Her life is about to change in more ways than she can imagine.
Single dad, Lachlan was terrified when Aidan wandered off and without thought, he took to the skies. He didn’t expect Aidan to be with a human woman or to reveal himself but surprisingly instead of running in terror or fainting away, Cam had questions – so many questions, just like his little boy. His fascination soon turned to much more when he realized just what Cam is to him. Now he has to convince his love-shy, never going to be tied down mate that she’s safe and free with him. And that’s not going to be easy.
It was so easy to fall back into the world of THE MIDNIGHT DRAGON’S MATE. I enjoyed the banter between Cam and Lachlan as well as the sizzling chemistry. Aidan is a delightful little boy – and maybe we’ll see him again down the years of time and see how his new friendship with Cam’s friend Lila’s daughter turns out. Yes, I do think longterm. *grin* Once again Victor shows his nastiness and his madness is increasing. I got a few chuckles from Flynn’s reaction to Lila and I’m wondering if they will be our next couple – time will tell. I had a blast with this story and got to catch up with characters from the first story in the Shifter Dads series as well. If you love a smart lady and a sexy dragon figuring out how to make their relationship work, then you’re going to love Lachlan and Camellia’s story.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
What do you do when everything you thought you couldn’t have is handed to you
I loved reading Camellia, Lachlan and Aiden’s story. It has a bit of light danger mixed in with all the swoony shifter love. Lachlan is a dragon shifter who’s a single dad and owns the diner in the shifter friendly town of Oak Ridge. Camellia is a botanist currently collecting samples in the forest surrounding Oak Ridge. She is a human who is unaware of the existence of shifters until Aiden wanders into her campsite and his dad, Lachlan, lands in her campsite looking for him and he’s in dragon form. Thus Camellia is thrust into the world and politics of shifters. Camellia and Lachlan are fated mates but Camellia has never wanted a husband and children so what should she do when her entire world tilts on its axis. The book is fairly low angst and has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, a bit of steam, a small amount of danger, strong friendships, strong families and painful pasts. The book was well written and included three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging story line. While this is a standalone, the series has an overarching storyline and is best read in order. I am excited to read the next book in the series.
Camellia Lane, devoted Botanist is startled by the out of nowhere presence of a little boy, Aidan who is lost in the woods. Aidan is fascinated and inquisitive about what Camellia is doing, all alone in the woods. When he discovers she's a scientist, his inner thirst for knowledge shines through with the various questions he asks. Camellia has never had such a captive and interested listener and she patiently answers each and every one of them. While deciding on a course of action to return him safely to his parents, Camellia is stunned when a dragon swoops down and morphs into a man, right before her eyes. The scientist in her can't ignore the fact of what she's seen with her own two eyes.
Aidan's father Lachlan Hayes is tremendously relieved to see his son is safe and instincts tell him he can trust Camellia with his shifting ability secret. In thanks, he invites her to lunch and they all spend the day getting to know each other better. Aidan doesn't want her to leave, Lachlan is smitten and Camellia is terrified of what it all means. Recommended: Read It!
So it turns out a 'meh' Ms Chant novel is like a 'Meh' marvel film in my brain. as in it's not 'Meh' when you view it against actual 'Meh' books. It screams 'mates done right'!! At no point was Cam pressured into anything. She wasn't a shifter, she didn't grow up believeing blindly in Mates. and her scientific background is not touted as 'wrong' in the face of epic romance. She doesn't sway to bs around the 'your going to be a spinster' mentality when others in her profession (sadly overwhelmingly men) are not given stick for not wanting children or told "that will change when the right person comes along". Lachlan is amazing as a widowed father looking after a young child. It was veeeeery nice to see it played as "this is just what a parent does" rather then "such a martyr, now you have a wifi she can stay home" This is something overlooked in fantasy/romance/paranormal and it touches home being the bread winner in a male dominated field in my own family but still struggling with the expectations of others with our family choices.
The 'Meh' was for the kid... again, it's a pretty picky whinge, but he came off as window dressing rather then a full formed human. but as before, even though this didn't quite hit the awesomness of other Ms Chant books, it was still an amazing read with many things resisting falling into the same old troops.
Title: The Midnight Dragon’s Mate Series: Shifter Dads, #2 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Zoe Chant Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger Genre:#PRN #Dragonshifter #Botanist #5Stars🌟⭐🌟🌟 •••••••••••••• 💢As usual Ms. Zoe is in her best of this book and I loved it. You will love it too, definitely a keeper
🔹️Dr. Camellia Lane aka:Cam is a Botanist looking into the plant life in the woods. For a Pharmaceutical Company that does all-natural drugs. She was close to a little town called Oak Ridge. With the unusual plant everywhere seemed to be magical. Then she saw a Dragon land in front of her.
🔹️Lachlan is a Dragon Shifter and the best cook in the world. He loved to cook but his son was everything to him. Then he saw her, things changed.
Such a great book with a wonderful and amazing list of characters. Cam is a human botanist, her job is making sense of all the strange and wonderful trees and plants that are growing around Oak Ridge PA. She never thought she would run into a very inquisitive 5 year old in the middle of the forest. More importantly she never thought she see a real dragon fly in and turn into a man. Lachlan found his son talking to a beautiful woman about the one thing that Aidan loved, science. And she saw him shift. Cam never thought that magic existed and now it is right in front of her, but there is something else, a strange feeling. Lachlan has found his mate. I love how Cam struggles with herself to acept a different future then she planned. Such a great book with awesome characters, and a great setup for the next book. I hope this series continues for a while. Perfect HEA
I started reading this book earlier in the year and I was really enjoying it but other books took over and I put this on the back burner. Moving toward the end of the year now I wanted to make sure everything I’ve started this year is finished by year end😁 Now, I’m asking myself why I didn’t finish this sooner as it was a good story!
Cam is a scientist and she’s sure she’s about to discover some new plants when a child of about six, comes out of nowhere and soon his father comes flying in....OMG a dragon 🐉 Cam can’t believe her eyes and Lachlan has a feeling that Cam will come to mean more to him and his son. Although as we know most relationships have their obstacles and soon Cam and Lachlan discover so does theirs😢
Thank you to Zoe for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest review💕
Owner of the town diner, Lachlan, has been a single dad since his son, Aidan's mother was killed in an automobile accident. Camellia is a Ph.D. searching for plants that can be used for medicinal purposes. One fine day, Aidan finds Camellia in the forest and his father finds both of them while searching for Aidan. Lachlan has found his mate. Unfortunately, his mate doesn't want to be mated to anyone. Love this story and all the Oak Ridge characters featured in the series. Reading about these shifters finding their fated mates is so very enjoyable. The stories are sexy, suspenseful and heartwarming. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I always enjoy reading a Zoe Chant story because there is a great formula that I can trust will lead to a happy ending. The characters and their journey to happy ever after are always new and interesting with different life experiences. This series is great and I am eager for the next part. Lachlan is an easygoing dragon single dad who’s life seems to be coasting along. He had a wife and seems resigned to a life without a mate, he will focus on his son. Then he meets Camellia, a botanist who has committed herself to her career without messy feelings for other people getting in the way. The journey is the best part.
I really like this series. The town is filled with fantastic characters and they are always willing to help! We met Lachlan in The Red Dragon's baby. He and Aidan are happy together. Then Aidan meets Camellia while playing tag in the woods and his dad has to fly in to find him. This is a very fast read.
There is a very fast pace with a hopeful, yet uncertain tone. The character oriented storyline has action and steamy scenes with a full cast of vibrant characters. I am hoping to see Flynn's story next! Read these in order to get the full effect of this series. Enjoy!
The Midnight Dragon’s Mate: Shifter Dads, #2 By Zoe Chant Kindle unlimited purchase Lachlan and his six-year-old son Aidan were walking in the woods when Aidan went missing. But what Lachlan found would change their lives for the better. Cam hadn’t expected her “research trip” into the Appalachian Mountains to actually yield much in the way of research. When out of the trees comes a child that is lost. When his father shows up looking for his son all you can say is OOPS. This story of a single father finding love in the middle of the woods was a heartstring puller. Aidan was so cute I couldn't help but fall in love with him.
2,5 stars Normally I'm all for characters like Cam, but her character development happened too fast and you couldn't really believe that she was so unemotional and distant, because we never actually saw that side! So that was disappointing, though I did like this one a bit better than the first. Still plain average and a quick and easy read.
Also, again, safe sex! This author has apparently never heard about safe sex and neither have her characters! They fall in lust and never even think about STDs or unwanted pregnancy. I can believe in dragons, but disregarding safe sex doesn't seem right.
I LOVE IT 5 OUT OF 5 First of all let me tell you, i feel too connected with our female MC because i too am weird around kids, worrying about saying and doing the right thing, dont wanting a family for my own but i'm open to adopt anyway she was also afraid of all that because she thought that you can only have a family or have a job and a career but of course that isn't the case with most families so it was cute to see her interact with this little boy and how she starts to have feeling for both father and child but being so scared and trying to figure out everything out. It was a fun and lovely reading, can't wait to read the next one (but i know this is MY fav so far)
I have decided I need my own personal shifter! Lachlan is a perfect man. He puts everyone else’s needs before his own. Camellia is a wonderful woman who has interesting expectations of relationships. She is also a wonderful and supportive friend. Aidan is a typical, well loved 6 year old.
Ms. Chant, et al, writes wonderful happily ever after stories that leave you feeling good and optimistic about everything. There is sex in the book. Not too graphic, but it is there.
I highly recommend these books. They are always a fun read and make you want to come back for more!
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest! It was a great book ! Camellia is very happy w/ her life surrounded by plants. She is a botanist after all. Lachlan and his son Aidan were just have fun in the woods. Until Aidan got lost, and he found Camellia. Lachlan was attracted to Camellia from the start. However, she is human, and he was a dragon shifter. Love finds a way! Loved the characters + the storytelling ! It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book! I can't wait for the next book in this series.
Oh wow! I loved this shifter dad book! I’m already looking forward to the next book. I hope the griffin finds his lady love, maybe with the best friend? Only time will tell, but while we’re waiting, you should definitely read this book. You are going to love the supportive dragon, his adorable son and even his holdout scientist mate. It might take a while to reach their HEA, but it is well worth the wait. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
The kids make this series gold! Love this new series! Fated mates with happily ever afters is my go to. Cam and Lachlan are a unique couple and I love how Zoe presents their relationship. It is so refreshing to see Lachlan wanting to stay home while encouraging Cam to keep her career. The best part of this series is the kids. I love the family dynamics and now I’m eager for Lila and Flynn’s story.
The Midnight Dragons Mate (Shifter Dads Book 2) by Zoe Chant. Cam was looking at the plants in a meadow when a young boy ran out the forest. Next a blue dragon flew into the meadow and changed into a man. He was telling his son, Aiden, off when he realised Cam, a human, was there and had seen him change. As they get to know each other they realise they are mates.
The Midnight Dragon’s Mate book 2 of the series Shifter Dads. It was a young boy who caught the attention of the midnight dragon’s mate. It was the right build in the story of the two newly discovered mate ship between the dragon dad and a human. I felt like telling her to take the bull by the horns and just go for it. I was waiting for the moment when the lions would make themselves known but it was near the end. No cliffhanger
The Midnight Dragon's Mate definitely starts this new series off with a bang! There is enough background information given to be intriguing without giving everything away at once. There is enough excitement, suspense, and romance to keep you reading. Loved it and can't wait for more!
