I had plans for myself, to have a successful career, to be independent, and have a good time. My philosophy as a young, silly girl was that I was here for a good time, not for a long time. I didn’t plan to have children, never planned to be married, and I certainly didn’t intend to be a widow before I reached the age of thirty. One day when I woke up, my reality was everything I’d never wanted. After the accident that took my husband’s life, there wasn’t time to think of myself. I was a widow with three small children and had a mother recovering from a heart attack that had nearly killed her. My appearance, my health, and especially my happiness, were no longer considerations, until I met Marco Mangini. He made me long for things to be different, for me to be different. He made me feel alive…and terrified.

Whilst this grabbed me from word one - this is LD Davis after all - I felt this lagged a tad in the middle when all I wanted was the angst, drama and gut wrenching feels that LDD always brings to her books. Instead, they kind of meandered through the build up of their relationship and I was left waiting for that axe to fall. This will probably knock me on my arse in the next book because LDD = ANGST!! Bet I pay for it with double pain .... bring it! 😜

As always, she's written fabulous characters. Marco, so bloody delicious and hot and just my kind of man. Lydia, prickly and always on the defensive and a ferociously protective momma. This usually never sits well with me, I have no time for push away, prickly heroines but given what Lydia went through, I totally got her and ended up really liking her.

I wish I had known this was a trilogy, I don't do cliffhangers .... at all ... and so dove into this one. Yes, it states on the cover that it's book 1 in a series but I never look at the covers, in fact I couldn't even tell you what this cover looks like. I saw LDD had published a new book and I popped a damn knuckle in my haste to 1-click this puppy.

The next book is out in June, thank goodness. Fingers crossed the wait for the final book won't be too long.

I may up my rating to 5 stars once the series is complete

Great start to a new trilogy. I thought the breaking point between book 1&2 felt more like I was in the middle of a book. Fantastic dimensional characters. Looking forward with trepidation over what’s to come in book 2.

Review by Jen Skewes

It’s been a little while since reason am LD Davis book and this series is so worth the wait. I missed her writing and all the feels that goes with it.

Lydia is a widow and now a single Mom to three beautiful children. After almost eight years her and her sister are finally repairing their relationship and moving on from the hurt of their past. When she gets news that her sister needs her she packs her kids up and goes to be with her. It’s also where she meets Marco, the man who will turn her world completely upside down in a way she never expected and at the same time has a hard time embracing.

So much has happened to Lydia in the past 8 years. She has her guard up and is still dealing with so much. While she can admit that Marco is gorgeous, she has a hard time trusting him and really opening up to him. But Marco is persistent and will not let her “hide” so to speak. He manages to slowly peel back one layer at a time. She’s finally opened up to the idea of being with him and Marco sharing her life. Until she feels like she is totally out of his league and not good enough for him. Can Marco make her understand and see herself the way he sees her?

I loved Marco. He is hot yes but also sweet and kind. And the way he took to her children will melt your heart. Lydia may be hard to like for some and I understand why but for me I thought she was an amazing heroine. There is so much more to her story and her past and knew because of that she was guarded. She is so strong and an amazing mother who will protect her children no matter what.

They both had their issues and at times I questioned certain things they did. In a way that I wasn’t sure if I would still feel the same about them. I loved the bond they had as well as the connection. Marco made her feel things she has felt in so long and it was so nice to see.

What I always love about LD’s books is the angst fest that you know you will get hit are never truly prepared for. She has a way of ripping your heart out, stomping on it and somehow puts it all back together. I mean she did manage to tune my hatred for one character into love!! With all that said I will admit the middle of this book was a little slower than what I expected. But don’t worry the angst and stomach dropping moments do come. Those intense feelings that you get, the moments where you wonder what will happen next, they are all there. And since this is a series of course we stew left with a cliffhanger. And I cannot wait to see what happens next.

It's been a long time since I've read anything by this author, who happens to be one of my favourites. This is Lydia and Mario's story. It is rife with laughter, sadness and every emotion you can think of. Book 2 cannot come soon enough.

Overall a good read. The heroine, Lydia, tended to get on my nerves with her belligerent attitude at first, but halfway through she had my sympathies. Her circumstances were extremely difficult. Marco was adorably sexy. I would have preferred some sort of reference that this was part of a duet series. If there was, I would have waited to read when the next installment was released, as I don't particularly like cliffhangers or waiting for a conclusion. Not mentioning the story's continuation put me off a bit.

I loved the characters from the Accidentally on Purpose series, so when I found out that the wonderful LD Davis was continuing the story with a new trilogy of some of the past characters, I could not wait. I was personally glad that I had read about Lydia and Marco in the previous books. I have to admit that I loved the mysteriously, sexy Marco Mangini from the first time he was written on the pages of Worthy of Redemption. We find out about the things that have hurt and made him the man he is today.
I felt a certain way toward Lydia and I hoped that she would redeem herself in my eyes like Kyle did for me (ok, I had to read Kyle’s story several times before I forgave him….lol). I didn’t feel sorry for her at first even though she won the man, lost him in a tragic way, but reading the small bits about her life with Gavin broke my heart. We can make mistakes in life, but we have to dust ourselves off and get back up. Yes, I wanted a full fight, some deep dread and some forgiveness in the end......maybe after the baby is born.
Davis has written another story with characters that you will love and I can’t wait for book two.

Overall:
With the way the story and characters were introduced I was confused with how quickly Gavin’s character was dismissed. Ms. Davis briefly introduced Lily, Lydia, and Gavin before delving into another story eight years later. The confusion was with those eight years.
What became of Lily? Obviously, life moved forward. Yet, Ms. Davis mentioned Lydia didn’t want marriage and kids. They weren’t part of the plan. If this was the case where did I miss this in the story. It sure wasn’t mentioned from the beginning.
Lydia was no longer happy or pleased with her life after losing her husband in a car accident leaving her widowed with 3 young children to tend to.
Emmy was Lily’s boss and Kyle was Emmy’s boss. If you’ve kept track of these books you’ll piece together who these characters are real quick.

I’m disappointed with my urgency to one-click another book by LD Davis. I keep hoping with each new release that she will be providing a new original story not one linked to the Accidentally on Purpose series. I saw Kyle and Emmy’s names and knew they sounded familiar. Sure enough they were the characters that started this journey. I don’t remember Lily working for Emmy, so it wasn’t until it was mentioned that I completely understood the significance of her character. I am confused by Kyle’s behavior towards Lily considering the destructive nature of his personality with Emmy.

There were too many characters driving this story. I prefer to focus on a few main characters. It felt like Ms. Davis was trying to tie too many loose ends together with all these character introductions.

I felt there were plot holes from the beginning that needed answering sooner rather than later. I found myself referring back to highlighted sections verifying information. I felt like some vital backstory was missing in regards to Lydia’s character and I questioned more than once if Lydia was mentioned in prior books.

Why was Kyle paying all of Lydia’s bills? What did I miss?

I wasn’t ready for Marco’s character to meet Lydia without having a better understanding of her marital dynamics with Gavin. Leaving that relationship open with no proper closure made it difficult to move forward.

I’m by no means thrilled by this book or these characters. Even the Italian dialogue isn’t satisfying. I was disappointed the Italian words were not translated. Each time they appeared I had to look them up taking me away from the story, breaking my concentration.

Lydia’s past sex life was mentioned with how many men she slept with. I’m confused since Lydia slept with Gavin when she was eighteen so when did she find time to have that past sex life with other guys? She currently was 29 and her oldest child was 8 years old.

Once Marco and Lydia we’re together I felt disconnected and bored by the divide of lifestyles. The merging of two different worlds and lifestyles was not fun to read with all Lydia’s hostility.

I had to step away from this book several times as it was stressful to read. Lydia’s insecurities grated on my nerves. Marco being wealthy was a disappointment with a lot of difficult circumstances to endure.

One things for certain Ms. Davis likes her designer clothes and shoes. I’m certain she addresses these fashions in each of her books.
I loved the dual points of view having Marco’s thoughts was amazing.

After a long absence, I'm thrilled that LD Davis is back. And dare I say, better than ever! Disenchanted is the first in a duet which features Lydia, sister to Lily (very happy with my man Kyle) from the original AoP series and is one emotional journey. This fiery redhead does everything in her power to be ornery, and untouchable to most who she encounters. Her love of her 3 children, left to her after her marriage ends, is the only thing getting her through most days. Ones filled with a pain she can't ignore and a hurt in her heart that is destined to remain. Until one Marco Mangini enters her life, barreling through all of her walls and showing Lydia that she might just be worthy of her own redemption if she'd just let him in.

Lydia is no easy person to be around and yet I liked her. I understood where she was coming from although at times I wanted to knock some sense into her and tell her to bite her tongue before she spewed more snarky lines. It's as if she is holding the world on her shoulders and is defiant in her stance not to allow anyone to help her. But that Marco. Oh my, that sexy Italian stallion saw right through her and knocks her crumbling sanity on it's a$$ over and over again. His own personal pain helps him to understand his Tesoro and I was floored more than once by his persistence to make Lydia see just how wonderful she still is, despite her recent and not so recent life decisions.

This story is beautifully-told in both POVs, showcasing Lydia's torment wrt all the choices she has made in her short life and the struggle to put forth her best efforts even when she's resolved not to. There are many unanswered questions that I assume (and hope) will be explained in book two, Perseverance. Especially what really happened with Gavin and if Marco's devotion to Lydia will remain steadfast despite his own surprise conflict at the end of book one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this slow-burn romance and the spirit that Lydia presents whether or not it is desired by those she holds near and dear. Marco is one patient man, who seems to be on a mission to show the spirited love of his life just how special she is despite her many protests to the contrary. Secrets are yet to be revealed which I know will throw their burgeoning love into a tailspin and I'll be here front and center when it does. Additional characters in Lydia's mom, the quiet but sweet Adam and the hoity-toity social scene that Marco has no choice but to engage in, round out this wonderful story and provide perfect scenarios in which Lydia can show her moxie whether or not it is welcomed.

Welcome back, LD Davis. Disenchanted is one heck of a return and I can't wait to see just how this complicated love affair will conclude.

Excellent read!

I didn't know what to expect when I first started reading this book. But let's get serious, it's written by L.D. Davis, one of the best authors out there. Every book she writes has angst, drama, love, and emotes so much feeling and emotion from you that you WANT to re-read her books over and over again because you like the way you feel when you read them.

Lydia is Lily's sister. Lily is now Kyle's wife and happily married, but years ago, she was engaged to her high school sweetheart, Gavin. Lily got pregnant young and they lost baby Anna and the young couple grieved together and apart. Lily moved to Philly and Gavin stayed behind in Ohio. He gave Lily her space because she was completely unstable. Lydia, Lily's younger sister, checked up on Gavin weekly. She was a teenage, pot smoking, underage party crasher. When her feelings for Gavin turn in just and his turn into loneliness for his fiancee, turns into a moment of weakness. They agree to not see one another and they both decide to ignore it. That is until Lydia remembered that she left her jacket at his place.

Gavin invited her for dinner and kisses her. Lydia pushes him away too late, because Lily was watching them from the screen door. She goes off the rails, grabs the knife from the butcher block and locks herself into the bathroom. Gavin is too late trying to break down the door and they get her to to hospital just in time to save her life. But she cut them out of her last felt for almost 8 years.

Now that Lily is now pregnant and soon to be married Lydia is thrilled to have her sister back in her life. Raising 3 children as a widow is very hard. After losing her husband in a car accident that almost took her own leg, and left he nearly crippled, she's bitter.

When Marco Mangini, Kyle's billionaire best friend, meets Lydia, his world changes. He's met her through all of Lily's videos, pictures, and stories. And he hung unto every single story Lily told. He couldn't wait to meet the first red-head; she was even more fiery in real life.

The more she came at him with her nastiness the more he fell in love with her. He wanted more for her, he knew she had a bad marriage and thinks that she deserves the daily pain in her leg as payment for the accident that killed her husband, that's why she never sought treatment, besides the fact that she couldn't afford it and had 3 young children to take care of.

Marco just wants the best for her. When he has to rush home to Italy when he finds out that his brother is dying of cancer, he's torn. Finally fixing his relationship with his brother after all of these years, now he doesn't know how long he has left with him.

A must read!

Lydia never imagined how much her life would change because of her unexpected accident. With her husband no longer with her, she's made due with the cards Fate has dealt her. She's made a home for herself and her children despite the fact that she's now disabled. Determined to live life to the fullest, her world is soon turned topsy-turvy when her sister's health and her baby are imperiled. Things soon take another unexpected turn when she meets the sexy and enigmatic Marco Mangini. The man incites her baser desires, drawing forth the woman that's lain dormant within her for far too long.

A lovely start to this series, Disenchanted introduces us to the headstrong, and so very stubborn, Lydia. She's a woman who's had to contend with so much pain and heartache, she's not sure which way is up or down. Despite everything she's gone through, she's determined in providing for her family. So much so, that she refuses to be acknowledged as someone's own charity case.

I love the fact that LD has made her so lifelike. Lydia reminds me of my sister. She hates people handing her whatever she needs. She's the type of person to do for herself no matter how difficult it may be. The character is quite relatable. So much so, we can feel, see, and experience everything she goes through with every turn of the page.

I do so hope that Lydia gets her happy ending someday. Granted, she's had it tough, so she's not the most trusting of persons. It's nice to see the author has made her as real as possible. It's not only her either, but the rest of the characters. Theirs is a world that closely mirrors the world we live in. What's to come for these characters is hard to say. I can't wait to dive into book 2 when the time comes to find out, however.

DNF, somewhat reluctantly. I’m so disappointed. I read the Accidentally on Purpose series and mostly enjoyed it, but there were a few recurring themes that I was hoping just hadn’t aged well. Like, ‘men don’t cry’ (even when their world is falling apart), slut shaming, and even a homophobic comment in the beginning of Lily’s book.

Unfortunately, less than 15% into this one, Kyle is already ‘being a girl’ for fussing over his girlfriend…. who was recently kidnapped, and is at high risk for giving birth to their child too early (which for anyone who hasn’t actually been through that, is fucking excruciating). He should be fussing over her.

I love the intense emotions an imperfect characters that the author writes, but I can’t get past the unnecessary sprinkling of these views.

Love.. Love.. Love!

Such a great start to LD Davis’ new trilogy!
If you loved AOP series you will love this story as well!
I absolutely loved every part of this story and can’t wait to get more of Marco and Lydia. The suspense in this story trying to figure out the issues of Lydia’s damaged past, the secrets that she has held close to her heart that has made her so numb and the changes she is slowing making. SO GOOD!!
So glad LD Davis is back at it again!

This story was about Lily and Marco, from Worthy Of Redemption. It was emotional and engaging. A great start to what looks to be an amazing yet complicated love story. I felt bad for Lily because of the all things that had happened in her past, that had helped to shape her life. She was flawed, a little broken yet strong and independent. I liked that Marco was patient, gentle and persistent. He was a keeper (if only Lily was able to see that.) I can't wait to see what happens next.

I’m all in!

I want to yell at Lydia to not be so prickly. Followed immediately by the urge to yell at Marco to not make those mistakes. Then I just want to cry because it can be so wonderful and yet is about to go off the rails. I am all in on this ride. I’m opening up book two and praying for book threes release date to hurry and arrive. L.D. Davis writes REAL life, real pain, real pleasure and real love.

I can't tell you how excited I am to finally have Marco and Lydia's story. L.D.Davis has once again given us another fantastic story. I will say with this book my emotions were all over the place, happy, sad, angry even all three at once at times but it was all totally worth it. I found myself falling in love with Marco and Lydia almost immediately and I can't wait for more!!

I didn't knew L.D. Davis before I unintentionally read the the blurb of Disenchanted. As soon as I read the blurb I knew I had to read the book.

And I am so glad I did.

I adore Lydia with all my heart.

Marco is a difficult subject. I didn't knew if I was going to like him. I liked him. Then I didn't, really didn't. But I'll wait for Perseverance (book two of the Disenchanted series) to make any decision.

Disenchanted is brilliant. Well written, original, the secondary characters bring something to the story. I couldn't stop reading. I was enthralled the whole time.

I was enchanted.

It made me feel and I can't not love a book that make me feel so much.

I'm not going to say I can't wait for the next book because I know authors are not slaves that live to write, they can take their time, but I definitely will be anxious while the next doesn't come.

Fiquei encantada.
