Keto: A Woman's Guide: The Groundbreaking Program for Effective Fat-Burning, Weight Loss & Hormonal Balance

Rate this book
One size does not fit all when it comes to the ketogenic diet. Keto: A Woman's Guide  offers a balanced approach to using the keto diet to optimize hormonal balance and body composition, customizable to your specific dieting goals.

Women need to do keto better and smarter to get the health and fat-burning benefits they are seeking. Men and women have different energy requirements, different levels of hormones, and metabolize nutrients differently. With the soaring popularity of low-carb diets in recent years has come a lot of confusing and misleading information—and very few resources that consider the unique physiology of women on a ketogenic diet. Keto: A Woman's Guideaddresses the misconceptions and discrepancies to give you a clear path to keto success.

Ketogasm website and blog creator, Tasha Metcalf, outlines the fundamental differences between male and female keto dieters, how to correctly determine your calorie and nutrient needs, and how to adapt the appropriate approach for your particular keto dieting strategy, whether for fat-burning and weight loss, reversing insulin resistance and PCOS, athletic performance, thyroid health, and/or balancing your hormonal cycle. She also explains the ketogenic diet phases, their particular lengths and objectives, and actionable steps for getting the most out of each phase of the diet.

With Keto: A Woman's Guide as your trusted source, meet your individual keto goals with a diet plan custom fit for your body.

I've only read a couple of keto cook books so far which have the basics on the keto diet within them and then lots of recipes so I was interested in this for going deeper and also for focusing on how it affects females (as I am one) however for me it went a little too deep and I got very lost in places. I think this is probably an excellent book and very informative but for me I needed something a lot simpler to read to start with before tackling this one.

I have read a few keto books , this is by far the most detailed one I have read.
Providing an in depth insight into keto and micronutrients.
The information on the female hormonal cycle was very good, and not something I had read about before.
This is a great book for anyone wanting to know the science behind keto as well as what to eat how much and information about vitamins.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Keto is a new things to me. But as a woman who struggles with hormone balance I can’t wait to give this book a try. I am hoping that it will prove very useful.

I am not doing the keto diet at present but I have thought a lot about it and have read several books. My friend is doing it and losing weight. Another friend also had great success until she got breast cancer and now that she is in remission she is doing a modified keto diet.
I found this book fascinating and enjoyed learning more about cyclical metabolic rates and women’s bodies in general. I think if I were going to indulge the keto lifestyle this book would be my number one book to ramp up into a keto diet. I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would!

First off, this is not a book that contains any recipes to follow. It's a technical book on the keto eating plan / diet that explains it in great detail, so you can get your head around the method.

The book contains 3 sections, Keto in Context, Fundamentals of the female body and Implementing of the Keto diet. The first section, Keto in Context, contains 3 chapters on What is Keto, Macronutrients 101 and The fat burning advantage.

The second section, Fundamentals of the female body, covers calories, hormones, menopause and exercise & athletic training. Finally, Implementing of the keto diet, includes Strategies, How much to eat, Phases, understand those food labels and supplements.

Its a lot to take in on the first read through and could be quite an interesting diet to follow but I think its for those that can follow quite strict restrictions on carbs, fats and proteins. Its about getting the values correct each day and its not for the faint hearted, though it does work as I've done it myself before. The author also suggests starting off gradually as its a bit of a change to the diet, though going straight for it can work for some ladies.

To complement the book, the author provides a link to an online calculator that provides you with the correct macronutrients to consume each day and along with reading the food labels you should be able to lose weight and also suggests online food diaries to keep a track of what you eat to make sure you are sticking to the right balance.

I do think this book would need to be read a number of times to get the keto idea; there's nothing wrong with the delivery of the book, but its quite a change to how we eat, it will take some getting used to.

I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.

We women are different than men in so many ways, and our diet is just one of them. We deal with hormones from puberty, pregnancy and menopause that present challenges beyond merely aging. In this book, the author provides a view into some of these differences and how we can deal with them on Keto.

The reason I wanted to read this book is because of the section on Thyroid health. I’ve read that you can do keto with hypothyroidism, but mostly I’ve heard that you shouldn’t. It was good to read more about doing keto in menopause as well. Lots of different issues for women and it’s good to read up on them.

If you’re new to the ketogenic diet, the book also has a primer to help you understand keto, macronutrients and so on. All in all, it’s a good resource for both women who are new to keto and those of us that are a bit more seasoned and looking to understand some of the unique challenges we face.

4.5 This was by far the most helpful keto book I’ve read mostly because it is written for and about women. It goes into detail about how keto works with a woman’s body and yet was easy to read. This was helpful for me, a menopausal woman, who has tried keto and been relatively successful but couldn’t stay on it. Now I know more about the diet’s effect on hormones I look forward to trying again. I also appreciate the honesty about calories in/calories out because most keto diet books say to simply eat fat and you’ll get thin.
The only issue I had with it is that the chapters on figuring out your macros were a little difficult to understand, but then she goes on to discount being totally dependent on exact macro counting, leaning instead on instinctive eating.

Thanks for the advanced copy NetGalley, and for the reference guide that I will definitely be using in the future! I enjoyed reading this - from the perspective of someone who is interested in Keto but not really sure about how it would work in my life; and someone who enjoys food and cooking! I have read other books on Keto, but none that are aimed purely at women, and understands the way that monthly cycles and hormones can have an effect on our eating habits, emotions and therefore how we nourish our bodies. I would highly recommend this book to any woman who is wanting to learn a bit more about Keto before they embark on a low-carb journey.

I am impressed by this thorough and easy to understand Keto guide. Tasha Metcalf manages to take what I perceived as complicated, break it down into manageable, informative chapters. Her conversational style, and obvious knowledge shine through the writing. Keto: A Woman's Guide is a reference I can see myself returning to often. I was disappointed at the lack of recipes, but hopefully Ms. Metcalf plans a supplement, and I'll be there for that!
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.

I was reluctant at first to read a book about the science of the diet but getting an ARC from netgalley prompted me and I’m glad I did read it, it’s important to understand what you’re doing to your body with what you eat or don’t eat and how It functions on the diet choices you make.
I don’t think this will be everyone as I believe most don’t want to know the details of how and why a diet may work, just that it does work

Excellent, informative information for women and what to expect with the body during a keto diet. Book does go into detail on the physiology of the women's cycle and functions. Very insightful information, I personality learned a lot on the hormone in balances. I would like to state that this a information book NOT a recipe book. I enjoyed the information form this will written book. Would highly recommend this as a read for women who want to practice the Keto diet.

I was looking for a book that explained clearly, in layman's, terms how the Keto diet works. This book does exactly that. With this book in hand it is possible to gain an understanding of what is happening to the body when dieting and how needs change during different periods of life.

I very much recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand why a diet works rather than just follow a set of rules with no knowledge of the science behind it all.

I couldn’t even finish this book. The science behind it is so asinine. The lack of correct information about fasting and the medical (proven) benefits you receive when you fast, and the idea that fasting… which has been done by mankind for thousands of years…is harmful for your body. Nope lost me. If fasting was so bad, mankind would have died out when our ancestors had to do it during hunter and gatherer days.

Keto: A Woman's Guide is the first book I have read, that is especially geared towards women. It takes the metabolism and hormonal household of women into account. the book contains a comprehensive explanation of the keto diet and helps women to fine-tune the diet to their individual requirements. Overall this book is fascinating and very helpful.

This book seems to provide a good introduction to the Keto method of nutrition. However, I didn't get far enough into it to determine why it is specifically aimed at women before the title expired. I really need to read more but at this point in my life I think it is probably not the diet for me.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing an ARC for me to review.

Finally a book that takes in to account that women’s bodies are different and that we diet and burn fat differently. The section on Hormone imbalance is very informative. This is everything a woman needs to know to begin the Keto diet. ARC provided by publisher and Netgalley for a honest review.

Great book on how any woman can follow the keto diet and lose weight. Keto is not as simple as some of the other diets on the current trend. It is a more personalized approach so anyone hoping to go keto definitely needs to read and follow guidelines.

Lots of medical info. Too much technical data. Not enough meal plan guidance. If you’re a woman and you want to do keto, I recommend you try a different book.

I have read and reread this book and it has been such an eye opener, I’ve been on a keto diet for over 12 months now and started off really well but the weight loss was never brilliant, since I started reading this book and implementing a lot of the things in it I am down over a stone a month as opposed to the half a stone a month I was achieving before. I can’t recommend this book highly enough

This book gives a detailed breakdown of the Keto diet and how to make it work for the female body. There are no recipes, but it does tell you how and what you should eat. It also has supplement section (which is key) and what you can expect while doing keto (even how to avoid the "keto flu." While this book was super informative, I found it a little too clinical for my taste. For those who want to get deep into the science behind keto, this is your book.

Very helpful. I've been doing keto for 2 years and found much of this book still applicable. I would not put as much emphasis on calories, as she states, rather overall macros, nonetheless, great information. Her suggestion to drop fat consumption to 50% from the therapeutic levels depending on goals was very insightful. In the end, knowing our body and knowing keto can be done in many varying degrees is important. I loved the hormone discussion chapters. Having thyroid disease, this book gave me more options to think about.

For a beginner this is a great book. Kind of sciencey in the beginning so if you are looking for a how to it’s at the end of the book. Very helpful if you are interested in hormonal weight loss. Nothing very new if you are someone who has done keto but I think a great beginner book.
