Ignored, unloved and verbally degraded since the day he was born, Jace didn't know what real love was. He spent his young life trying to stay invisible. It was the only way he could avoid the ugly taunts and physical assaults of his peers. But when you're twice the size of the other children around you, invisibility becomes a problem, and at that point Jace had to learn how to fight, and fighting became a way of life, a means to survive.
There was one person on earth who loved Jace, and who he truly loved in return. That was his little sister Rosie. Rosie was autistic and destined to be as neglected by their father as he was. Jace recognized her worth and her intelligence at a young age, but his stepmother, frightened of what she didn't understand and envious of how much Rosie loved Jace, insisted he be sent away to a boarding school.
Jace languished, miles away from the family that couldn't stand to look at him, and the sister who he knew needed him, until once again his world was rocked and he returned to Boston. On his way home, at fourteen years old, he met a legend...or maybe two. A man with blond hair and incredibly intense blue eyes named Doc Marshall that reignited a spark of interest inside Jace that he'd been too busy to covet for a while. He wanted to ride a Harley. He wanted to be in a motorcycle club, and he wanted more than anything to be the guy in a leather vest who rode off into the sunset with his beautiful old lady behind him.
Jace had to put that dream away for quite a few years. Although he was bigger, stronger and smarter than most of the adults in his world, that lost, scared little boy still lived inside of him. The rage that lived there too, lay dormant, most of the time. When it flared up, however, it could be lethal, and more than once it was.
By the time Jace was twenty-five, he'd been incarcerated more than once, beaten, stabbed, burned and constantly abused. Meeting two men would change his life. One had a heart of gold and saw the potential in Jace and fed it. The other he'd met once before when he was a boy, and the other man was barely out of his teens. It was Dax Marshall, now the president of the Southside Skulls. Jace was flabbergasted to find out that Dax was not only impressed with his work, but came to be impressed with him as a man as well. Between his boss and his mentor, and the place in the Skulls Dax offered him, Jace finally had real hope for his future. Then one day he skidded into the life of the most beautiful woman in the world and although Jace knew she was way out of his league, he was helpless not to fall in love with her. Of course, she had a few flaws of her own. She was possibly the meanest woman Jace had ever met, and she might just be addicted to sex as well...but sometimes a man has to make a decision to take a right, or a left, or continue up the mountain and around the tight, dangerous curves. Everything Jace had learned or experienced in his life, had led him to that moment...climb on the back of his Harley as he revs up the engine and find out which way he chooses to go!

The life of Jace. This book is about how Jace was brought up and how he had to fight tooth and nail for anything. He gave everything his all but sometimes that wasn't enough. How he got all his scars and how he was always told how ugly he was. He wasn't ugly, just not gorgeous on the outside. He has done time in jail and what he went through. How he got his first big break when he met Clay and went to work for him. How when Clay died he left him a rich man. See he wasn't beautiful on the outside but he was on the inside and just needed someone to see it.
There was a little bit that was repeated from the first two books that he is in but gave it a different prospective so it wasn't a loss of hearing a few things again.

Good book so give the series a chance and enjoy all the naughty goodies 🔥

Jace was the man who played a big part of Beck's story, and I won't go into more details in case you just came into this series, but if you haven't read that book yet, you'll want to read it afterwards, then Rise of The Phoenix. I know, it all seems very confusing, but you'll get up to speed quickly if you just read all of Jessie Cooke's books in order to be honest, and it's totally worth the time, as I can't read them quickly enough, so I find myself waiting impatiently for each new one. Anyway, obviously this is Jace's back story and it's a heartbreaking story about the boy that no one cared about, which killed me, as all he wanted was acceptance. He didn't get it from his father, his mother took off when he was little, his new stepmother didn't have a care for him, only his autistic sister, Rosie, loved him but everyone was scared of him being near her. He had a temper that got the best of him from time to time but it was usually when he was pushed too far, or protecting someone, which landed him in military school. And when his father was supposed to pick up up, he forgot Jace, and this is when he met Doc Marshall & his son Dax. It would be years before he came face to face with Dax again, after he had been in and out of prison, and a man had given him a chance to better his & Rosie's life. That's when Dax came back into his life, and finally Jace was patched in to the Skulls. Yeah, this story hit me in the feels hard, as Jace really had a hard life, and still tried to do the right things anyway. Even when he ended up in prison, it usually was for good reason. No one ever protected him in his life until the MC. And he didn't know true love until Rosie, and then when he met the woman who would become his person. This was a story that needed to be told, as Jace was a dark horse in previous stories, and I'm glad to know what made him tick! CANNOT WAIT for the next story, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We loved this story from beginning to end.Jessie Cooke definitely one of our top favorite MC author as she is and amazing story teller.

We loved Jace's story it was heart felt and heart wrenching for what Jace had to go through as a young child but, regardless he did not let his past define him and he showed us just what he was capable of and that was loving someone with his whole heart something he never learned as a child because his father was nothing but, a cruel and bitter man.

Jace definitely faced trying times but, we truly believe all his trial shaped him into the man he has become. We found Jace to be loving, kind, loyal and deep down truly a good man but, that's not to say he didn't carry around some demons and was a little bit broken too and he could also be dark and dangerous just as the next man.We loved that through loyal friendships he has finally found a family with The Southside Skull and felt for once that it was right where he belonged and was destined to be.

We had to say that Jace had one heck of a colorful life that is for sure but, when he first met Beck for the first time he new he had found his soul mate and the one women he was destined to love and have someone love him in return.

Overall we really enjoyed getting to know Jace more in depth through his story and how as a nomad he made some really powerful friendships with both Wolf and Dax that will lead to him to have some amazing opportunities and the life he always wanted and dreamed and also he met the women he was born to love.We loved being on Jace's adventure as it was quite the page turner and we loved it from cover to cover and everything in between.

Recommend read to all !

Having read all of Cooke's Skulls books, I have come to love many of her characters but few more so than Jace. In this book we learn more of the heartbreaking backstory to this giant of a man.

Growing up in a home devoid of affection, or any true parental guidance, Jace virtually raised himself. Bigger than his peers at an early age and taunted most of his life for his looks, Jace's anger built over the years. When his sister, Rosie, was born he found a purpose. Looking after her and being attuned to her special needs gave his life meaning and the first bit of love he'd ever experienced. With his upbringing, you'd think he might be looking for trouble but all he ever wanted was to be left alone to care for himself and his Rosie. But that didn't mean trouble didn't find him...

I won't say more for fear of spoiling pieces of the story but this book is a wonderful introduction to the decisions that led this wounded man to his true family.

I absolutely love this author’s MC books, having read them all, but Jace has a special place in my heart as one of the best characters. As with all of her books this is real page-turner that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. At some points I was on the verge of tears reading about his childhood but that made me love Jace all the more. Fantastic second book of the series, I can’t wait for Finn!!

Oh man I think that Jessie went above and beyond with this one. This book will touch your heart. The crap hand he was dealt with when he was a kid was heartbreaking. This book will have you flipping these pages and completely engrossed and immersed into the story.

Great book

This was the second book of this series, it didn't disappoint, it kept my interest right from the start. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their story, plenty of twists and turns, action, intrigue and romance. This book offered a back story into one man's life and how it shaped him and made him a man to be admired.

I like all the guys in this world, but I think that there is just something special about Jace. I think that he is definitely my favorite. And I really like that Jessie Cooke went back and gave us more of his story, even after we met him and got his love story in Beck.

Jace just seems like such a really loving and sweet guy, who just happened to end up in a giant's body. That doesn't mean that he's not able to pound you into bits, because he does have his rage, but he has both inside him. I felt so sorry for him and for everything that he went through as a child. His father should definitely burn in hell, and I really hope he does. But he turned into an incredibly strong and loyal man. And if anyone won that loyalty, they pretty much had a friend for life.

Great story, and I really am so glad that Jessie Cooke went back to give it to us.

Wow, I have not read Jessie Cooke before, but I am so glad that I signed up to receive an ARC of this book. It was a wonderful MC read that is read as a standalone, but you can tell that other characters have way more of a backstory than what you are seen. I will be checking those out as well! :)

This man is absolutely complicated, like you guys cannot even begin to understand how much this man has been through. I really do not want to go into much detail about the story because the blurb does a fan-freaking-tastic job of it, but know that this book is full of so much heart, great writing and a sense of wanting to know SO MUCH MORE!

I am looking forward to reading more by Jessie and these MC books! 4.5 outta 5 stars from me!!

Jessie Cook makes me hot and bothered with her descriptions and alpha males! The author has created a character that is well developed with a mysterious and dark past. It drags you in because of all the mystery and personal issues he has been through. The feelings this author drags out of you are insane. You feel so bad for him for all he has endured in his short life. The author creates a character and plot that make a huge impact on you and your life. Family means a lot in this tale of a man who overcomes so much.

Jace Bell has been through hell in his life. He has endured a crappy, difficult childhood. He makes mistakes along the way and fails at many things, but he eventually finds his path in a crazy, fantastic ride.

AWESOME!!!
Ms Cooke is amazing and this mc world of the Skulls, is simply not to be missed. I swear these characters are real people, that's how great these stories are! I still love Dax Marshall, who sits at the head of this empire but Jace would have to be a close runner up for my affections. He is a beautiful soul who got the short end when it came to the parent pool but he overcame it all and rose to be a leader in this new chapter of the Skulls. I cried and cheered for him and his dear sister, Rosie. If you have not read this series, please start from the beginning with (my old man) Dax and I promise you'll fall in love with him and all of the Skulls. I'm off now to read 'Finn', the next book of the Phoenix Skulls. Wish I could rate this series, 10 stars, it's just that good!

it wasa good read, I really loved Jace, and his ove for his sister and the way he always put her first. he really hadn(t it easy and I loved the way his journey was dclaied BUT I found the last chapters a bit scamped as if the authoor had to concentrate this part having taken too long, may be if the shower hot scene (which I found was not necessary) in opposite to the previous ones, important in forging the character had been delated we would have more time, may be, in witnessing ad living Jace and Beck's encouter and ther falling in love. The same with the desert scene I founded superfluousif not for Tommy's introduction. i would have given a 4.5 stars if I could. But I really felt for Jace and loved the developpement of the story. So I still put a 5 stars.

Out of order

I kinda feel like this story should have come before Beck's or maybe before Beck & Jace... Its kinda a recap of short bits from the beginning of Dax or even before... I does cover how He got to where he is but I am not certain it really added to Jace's story... You get to meet all his sexual partners along the way... Not really that overall important you sorta learn how he got his scars, and his relationship with his father and his sister... Oh and the guy Clay who he inherited the shop and fortune from. And how he met Doc, Dax, Coyote, and Wolf. But lots of this story are snippets from previous stories in the series. I took away a star because it just seemed like a remake. Its not bad but I think its not as big an addition to the storyline...

Even though this book is part of the Phoenix Skull book which is the start of a new series I was still lost on this book and then I found out that Jase and Beck already their story in the westside skulls Beck I don't know if this is the same story only this one is told from his point or if each story has new content. Overall this story was good Jase grew up a military father and his mother walked out on them. His father hated him and when the father remarried his wife hated him too. The only good thing in his life his little sister Rosie. Everything is for Rosie, and he protects hers and loves he's the kind of big brother you want to have.

Jace

Jace had one miserable life. He battled his anger constantly, got into a lot of trouble, was incarcerated several times. Had a father who didn't care about him at all. The only family member he cared about was his autistic sister Rosie. When he was 14 he accidentally met Doc Marshall and his son Dax, and said he would like to belong to an MC. Doc Marshall said to look him up when ready. There was so much story to cover here with time frames far apart sometimes. I've read probably everything Jessie Cooke has written, but I loved this even if the time frames caused me to re -read portions over.

Jace 's back story

This is Jace's story.about how he grew up. Took care of his sister Rosie. The trouble he got into and people he met.
eventually meeting Doc Marsha! and a few of his crew at 14 years old and that started his love for Harleys.
By the he was25 he was incarcerated more than once. Beaten stand burned and abused.
He eventually ran back into Dax Marshal Doc's Son who was current president of Skulls.

This is a great series , great writing, keeps you caught into the books.

The beginning of this is really interesting. We get to see into Jace's past and what made him the man he is today.
After that it was pretty much a recap of the earlier books about him just from his POV.
I do have to add that I was a bit grossed out at times. Jace was stuck on the idea that he was so "ugly" to people that he didn't have confidence in himself. Which had him making some questionable choices.
Sleeping with his step mom's sister and his old third grade teacher. Which with the step mom sister he should have known she was using him to get something.

This is the second book in this fantastic series, and is a background story about Jace, and the trials and tribulations, as well as a chance meeting with Doc & Dax Marshall, which changed his outlook on life, and shaped him to become the man he is today. This is a beautifully written story which is raw, gritty, thrilling, intriguing, heartbreaking, and with twists, action and love, which all had me totally enthralled throughout, and I recommend for all MC lovers.

I freaking Love this story!!!!
Finding out just what makes Jace who he is killed me but made me fall in love with him to boot.
His childhood was not a happy one except his little sister Rosie, and the dad well let's just say he is not father of the year .
The Skulls offer Jace a life he didn't realize he still wanted and in that he meets the love of his life and together they take the Skulls to another place

I loved this book❤❤

Jace, made fun of his whole life..has only one person in his life that gives him meaning, his autistic sister. When he runs into two men in leather jackets and riding motorcycles, he has another meaning in his life. Then, he comes across a beautiful and mean woman that will make him believe that someone can love him the way no one has, except his sister.

Will he fall or will he walk away?

In order to really understand the continuing stories it's better if you've read the previous books in the series. I really enjoyed this book. It's more about characters than about romance. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Jace's life and the horrible circumstances he survived to become the man he is. His story made my heart ache for all that he faced.

A great read

This is Jace's story of how he grew up, the trials and tragedies of the young man's life from an early age through when he becomes President of the Phoenix chapter of the Skulls. It's insightful, heartbreaking, but ends with a great HEA.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and great author.

Years later he runs into Doc Marshall's son Dax who is now the club president and Jace finally finds a place he belongs and a different kind of family!! I loved getting his story and truly fell in love the with the big guy.
