Cinnamon Worth

Cinnamon Worth is a native of San Diego. She grew up with a large family. Her parents had seven sons and three daughters. Cinnamon was their youngest. Her brothers and sisters would get into a lot of trouble, but would have the best stories to tell years later. Cinnamon was not as cool. She pretty much focused on school and kept her nose clean.

When she went off to college, she ran into the same dilemma most college students do. Her nicely defined path was running out. She would need to make some choices. Chief among them – what was she supposed to do for a living?

She had the good fortune to meet an amazing man the summer before her junior year of college. Sadly, she had already signed up to spend a year studying abroad. But the couple weathered the challenges of a long distance relationship and have now been married for over twenty years. Of course, all this did not solve that pesky problem of making a living – at least not right away.

That romance did, however, shape so many choices in her life. She decided to obtain an MBA after college because that boy had two years left in college and wanted her to stay put in San Diego during that time. Then, after the two years ended, they married, and he dragged her away from her hometown so he could begin work on his PhD and his MD. The college he attended happened to be located near Sacramento, so with her MBA in hand and zero experience, she went door to door begging for work, which she eventually found.

Her career ended up being in public finance – remember the Sacramento’s main industry is government. Year after year passed. Two beautiful children were born. Her husband studied and studied. After a little more than thirteen years, he had completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and his medical degree. But he still needed to do his residency.

Once again they set off on a new journey and had the good fortune to spend a few years living and working just outside of San Francisco. But there is no place like home and once her husband completed his training, his career brought them right back to the city where they met. Cinnamon turned in her 10-key for an apron and became a homemaker. This has led to a boom in sales for local restaurant owners. Surprisingly, one finds free-time when they avoid housekeeping, refuse to cook, and have no job, so she started writing for fun and demonstrated for her children the advantages of finding someone to marry who will let you goof off all day.

She loves humor, and even when she tries to be serious, it seeps into her writing. She has been thrilled to discover a small cluster of readers who are clearly brilliant, have excellent taste, and obviously possess a wickedly, awesome sense of humor. Yes – I mean those that are reading her books! Thus far, she has published books that use Jane Austen’s wonderful characters from Pride and Prejudice. The fifth such book will be released in early 2019.

I love historical romance. It’s been awhile since I’ve read one and this one was adorable. It was very predictable but I still really liked it.

The narrator was good. I didn’t like her voice for Phillip but everything else was great.

I love historical romance. My shelves are packed with them and I always turn to historical romance when I'm in a reading slump. But To Marry a Morgan just didn't work for me, I'm sorry to say.

It took me three tries to get past the first couple chapters. I can partially blame multitasking, but I kept finding myself confused as to what what happening in the story. And once it finally made some strange sort of sense, I just couldn't believe the misunderstanding that was happening between all the parties involved.

But really, the biggest downfall of this story and what made it hard for me to listen to was the narration. I read other reviews and I just can't believe we were listening to the same book. While Ms Green's pacing was decent, if not a touch slow, there was something in her speech that just grated on my nerves. I'm not sure if it was a bit of a lisp or excessive saliva, but I was just so distracted by her speech that I just wasn't enjoying listening to the story. On the flip side, her British accent was appropriate for the story and she did a fair job of creating a variety of voices for the characters.

I have the next book in the series and I'm hesitant to listen. I'm just not sure that this author and narrator are for me.

I did receive this book for free to review. All opinions are my own.

Interesting Romance

Two sisters, almost opposites. The hero was different, which made him interesting. I enjoyed how the author portrayed these characters with their shortcomings and misconceptions which made them more true to life.

Philip Heartford never wanted to step foot in his ancestral lands again after the death of his brother. But as the new lord of the manor, he must return and take a wife. But he can’t just pick any girl at the garden party, he believes he must atone for his sins by marrying the woman his brother once loved, Allison Morgan.

Julia Morgan has always been in her beautiful sister Allison’s shadow and has contented herself with being a spinster, too ill suited for marriage. She would once have married a certain Mr. Heartford, but he made it clear he intends on righting old wrongs by taking Allison to be his bride. So ever the dutiful sister and friend, Julia plays match maker.

Allison despises Philip and Philip is annoyed by Allison’s refusal of him. Yet Julia works hard to unite them, if only to see her elder sister wed before she becomes a spinster too. Entangled lives lead to a mess as the English countryside echoes with wedding bells.

So, this isn’t my first Cinnamon Worth book. I enjoy her short, sweet historicals and the small touches she puts into them to make them believable. They’re all full of balls and gardens and secret meetings between lovers. Her pieces were basically made for the playful voice of Megan Green who has the perfect accent for period pieces like this one.

Phillip is wounded and prideful, too wrapped up in himself to see how he comes off. He bosses poor Julia around and proposes to Allison like, “You’re old and nobody’s going to marry you. Marry me and you’ll live on the country estate alone, taking care of my land while I go have fun in London…wait, where are you going? Why didn’t you accept?” He was a little on the dense side sometimes, but once more of the story is revealed, you see why he’s so forcefully detached and forgive him.

Julia was a gem, and in my opinion. She has a low opinion of herself, thinking she’s too “fat” and ugly compared to Allison, which is why she’s all too happy to buy herself a little cottage to live out her days. Her heart is too big for high society and the pressures that come with it. By the first few chapters, I was firmly on her side and wanted to scream at her to go find her happiness, since out of everyone in the book, she deserved it the most.

Overall, I enjoyed this story, brought to life by the ever talented Megan Green and suggest regency lovers take a peak.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Racked with guilt and blaming himself for his brother’s death, Phillip Heartford left his ancestral home five years ago.

Allison Morgan’s younger sister Julia is seen by many as an ugly duckling. She's been in love with Phillip for years but when he returns home after five years and confides his intent to marry Allison, Julia is determined to do anything to help her sister and their happiness.

Little does Julia know that Phillip has always loved her. Unfortunately, he believes that it was this love that caused his brother’s death and destroyed Julia’s chance for happiness. He must now take a bride. Having convinced himself that his brother would want him to protect Julia, Phillip intends to become her brother by marrying Allison.

Returning home to fulfill his duty, will Phillip be able to follow his conscience or will his heart interfere?

MY TAKE
This was my first book but Worth, and I really enjoyed it. Poor Phillip is so clumsy in dealing with the sisters. Sometimes I wanted to smack him upside the head and other times to laugh. Allison is so intense a character, and she's been holding a grudge against him for being headstrong. She believes it's that which caused the accident that killed his older brother Jonathan—the man Allison is still in love with.

This story is a comedy of errors as these three people stumble around in their misconceptions. In a day when well-bred people didn't think honest and forthright communication was well-mannered, it's understandable. Especially when Phillip regularly put his foot in his mouth with the sisters.

The romance between Phillip and Julia is resolved in this book, but be warned the last chapter is a sweet epilogue for them but it also sets up a cliffhanger for Allison.

4 1/2 stars

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a decent job.

I received a copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This review is for the ebook and the Audible. I really had a hard time listening to the Audible. I did not like the narrator. It sounded more like someone reading a children's book and using different voices for the different characters. Thankfully the Audible was not very long. And since I got it for free, I didn't lose any money.

The ebook was much better to listen to with my default text to speak British voice.

I already had the book and it was okay. Very predictable and the characters were annoying. Not enough for me to want to read the rest if the books.

I received a free review copy of this Audible book and am voluntarily leaving a review. And as you can tell, this is very honest.

The story itself was too shallow and flat. It felt empty. It was very basic and far too straight forward leaving the reader utterly dissatisfied. This is rather sad because the characters themselves were not shallow and flat. They deserved a more complicated plot to help explore the depth of their characters. It was very much like a Jane Austin book, and I think that was the goal, but even Jane Austin's books had a subplot or two and more complicated stories to deal with complex characters. In fact, her ability to create the feel of a Jane Austin novel is why I gave it 3 instead of 2 stars.

While reading this story, I wondered, "Are people really this stupid?" I understood the guilt that Philip had about his brother, but the rest of it firmly logs into my category of "stupid". The only person in this entire story that had any intelligence and sense was Juliet's sister, Allison. Unfortunately for the author, I detest stupid.

Synopsis:

A secret, an unseen witness, and a misunderstanding threaten to keep apart two people who have loved each other their entire lives. When these barriers to love are finally lifted, can she overcome her own insecurities and finally see the truth?

Racked with guilt and blaming himself for his brother’s death, Phillip Heartford left his ancestral home five years ago.

After losing the love of her life, the beautiful Allison Morgan is resentful and angry. She has rejected countless suitors, and now, in the middle of her third season, she may be out of options.

Allison’s younger sister Julia is an ugly duckling. At least that is how she sees it. Although a happy marriage seems out of her reach, she hopes to one day live a quiet life as a spinster. If she cannot have her own fairytale ending, she is determined to do anything to help her sister and her dear friend, Phillip, find their happiness.

He must now take a bride. Having convinced himself that his brother would want him to protect Julia, Phillip intends to become her brother by marrying Allison.

Returning home to fulfill his duty, will Phillip be able to follow his conscience or will his heart interfere?

To Marry a Morgan can be read as a stand-alone romance, though it is part of a sweet Regency series. It is a childhood-friends and second-chance romance. The books of this series, in chronological order, are:

To Marry a Morgan
The Duke and the Damsel (to be released 6/19/19)
Books three through six to be released in 2019

My Thoughts:

Returning home to fulfill his duty, will Phillip be able to follow his conscience or will his heart interfere?
A secret, an unseen witness, and a misunderstanding threaten to keep apart two people who have loved each other their entire lives.

This book is a traditionally sweet/clean regency. There are no overt intimate scenes and it could easily be read by your teen.
Although part of a new series it can easily be read as a standalone. This is the first book in the series.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book via Hidden Gems.
This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

To Marry a Morgan by Cinnamon Worth is a Regency Romance novel. I am particularly fond of this genre but became a bit disappointed with this book as I felt it did not meet all the expectations of this genre. The common elements of this genre are present, such as references to the Ton, descriptions of social activities like morning calls, balls, and dinner parties. What I found lacking in this story is that there was neither suspense nor mystery. The plot focused on the quest for an appropriate wife.

Ms. Worth introduces us two sets of siblings, the Morgan sisters, Allison and Julia, and the Heartford brothers, Johnathan and Phillip. We first meet these four in their younger days and then again as adults. Tragedy fell on the Heartfords when Johnathan drowns. His death casts a black cloud over the other three that follows them for years.

This story is told through the perspective of the three main characters, Allison and Julia Morgan and Phillip Heartford. Ms. Worth does a great job in developing these characters. I enjoyed the twist she used in making them unlikeable. Allison possess beauty and intelligence but at times I found her to be quite shallow. Julia also possess beauty and intelligence, but she has a low opinion of herself which is reinforced by her family. Phillip blames himself for his brother’s death and it haunts him. Now, he is to assume the role as heir and in need of a wife, so he sets his course on marrying. He wants to marry Allison even though his heart is set on Julia. Ms. Worth creates a love triangle with these three.

I enjoyed the way Ms. Worth used the literary device of flashbacks to provide insight to these characters. I liked the way she used the theme of misconception to move the characters through the plot. The dialog was engaging. Her use of descriptive language did pull the reader into each scene. She did capture the characteristic of the nature of some of the members of the Ton-in the spirit of being well-bred and well-mannered that appearances are what is important, and love is not a factor in seeking marriage. Marriages were for a sole purpose of securing title and a steady source of income.

To Marry a Morgan was an interesting read. This is actually one of the cases where the book's been sitting for who knows how long in my Kindle, and I just decided to give it a go, not remembering a thing about its blurb. Thus, I really was ready to root for a certain Mr. Philip Heartford but got confused when the heroine, Ms. Julia Morgan, is introduced. As it was, the hero had mentioned at the end of the first chapter that he was going to propose to Ms. Allison Morgan because Julia had been in love with his brother and he couldn't take that away from him. Still, the behaviors of so many characters seemed rather off that at first I thought maybe the author had gotten them mixed up. However, after the hero repeats himself on his purpose, I understood that no, this wasn't a mistake, and while things didn't make that much sense for me, at first, it's all explained towards the second half. Of course, I could have avoided many questions from my part had I only read the blurb (which I did after I finished the book), but then, I'm not really sure I would have given this story a chance since I feel the blurb gives too much away. Now, even though by the halfway mark I had a fair idea how it was all gonna play out in the end, I didn't think it'd take so long for them to reach that point, so I think maybe the last four chapters could have been only two.

Having said all this, however, I have to point out that I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series since I at least remember that was the book I was most interested in reading (and not only for the cliffhanger ending in this one that ties it so nicely to the next one). I also have to give props to the author for not writing another "willowy" or "slender" heroine. Oh, and I seriously loved the purple in the cover! ~3.5 stars

PS: I don't know if it was the similarity of the trope (not confessing feelings for childhood friend) or the feelings that it evoked, but towards the end, I was reminded of Joanna Barker's book "Secrets and Suitors".

What a wrong-headed hero! In this mixed-up tale of brothers and sisters, surviving brother Phillip means to make himself the brother of the woman he loves—whom he believes loved his now dead brother—by marrying her sister in order to make amends, as he believes that he is to blame for his brother’s death. Yes, that sentence could take a little to unpack! Phillip and Julia have loved each other their entire lives, but Phillip believes that she belongs to his deceased brother. So the best that he can do by her, while remaining true to his brother's memory, is marry her sister. Unbeknownst to Phillip, he has it completely wrong. It is his beloved’s sister, Allison—the one he is going to pursue—who loved his brother and now blames Phillip for his death. How will this get untangled? Will Phillip realize what's going on in the hearts of the sisters and be true to his own?

It was hard to believe that no one recognized Phillip at first; really, it was only five years, and adults’ looks don’t change THAT much. I felt the conversation and language in this book was a bit stilted at times. You can tell that the author is trying to sound like a more formal Regency book, but the effect fell a little short. I thought some paragraphs were a little too blocky and long. Given the rather complex plot, I thought the length of the story was too short for it fully to be explored. Other than these factors, I actually enjoyed this read, and I found both Julia and Phillip to be engaging and Allison to be rather annoying (in a fun way).

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I wanted so much to like this book. It wasn't that bad but it wasn't that good either. The biggest flaw for me was Phillip, one of the main characters. His character was simply one dimensional. In other words, he was plain boring. I kept asking myself: "Why is he the main character?" and I kept hoping that he would get interesting. He never did. He remained a dull person until the end of the book. I continued reading just to know how it would all come to an end.

Caleb James was more interesting. He seemed to have character, unlike Phillip, who constantly reminded me of a dead twig. I wanted more of Caleb in the story. I know it's not his story but at the time of reading, he seemed more fascinating.

Yes. Yes. There was Julia. The other main character. I couldn't really fault her, though I wish we could have explored her character more. She seemed kind and genuine and wanted to get her own house. I wanted to know what made her come to that decision. A broken heart would not have made someone just want to be on their own forever. Or maybe it does.

Then we have Allison. I liked her character too. I'm happy she's got her own book. But would I be exploring it? I don't think so. I hope she doesn't end up with someone as boring as Phillip. Do you see where I'm going with this? Phillip destroyed the book for me! I just wanted a quick and nice regency romance to get away from the stress of working from home. Unfortunately, this book didn't do it for me. You can actually finish the book in one seating. It took me several days though.

I enjoyed this story set in the Regency time period. I liked Julia and felt for her in her insecurity, especially since she had such a gorgeous sister. It was nice to have a heroine who's not a size 2, though she was self-conscious about her weight. I loved that Phillip encouraged her to eat sweets; that was a cute scene. Phillip, too, was a wonderful character, honorable and caring, though a bit misguided in what he thought was best. I loved that he rescued a kitten and kept it; that was so sweet! There were a few cute moments between Phillip and Julia but I did wish for a bit more to show how they felt. I had to listen to the book at 1.5 speed as normal speed felt way too slow. The narrator was okay; I've listened to others with British accents I've liked better. This was a clean read. There was mention of God but it's not meant to be a Christian story. If you like Regency stories, you'll probably like this one.

I received an Audible copy of this story from StoryOrigin. I was not compensated for this review. All opinions are my own.

There wasn't exactly a single thing about this book that made me outright hate it. Normally, I'm a fan of historical romances, but this book... just not good.

The characters were unremarkable except in a singular thing: their stupidity. They were basically just a bunch of idiots who kept going around and made increasingly dumb decisions.

At one point, I literally had to put my phone down and just go "Bruh." Because they were just that dumb.

I thought that at least Julia was one of the smarter ones, but I'm pretty sure that all of her stupidity was being stored up for one immensely dumb moment at the end.

The plot was so predictable that I figured out what was going to happen from literally the second that all three main characters were introduced. Which is normally not a problem... so long as the author does something fun with the cliches and tropes.

But instead, it was as if the author went down a checklist of things to include in her story, and had zero interest in anything except for getting paid.

A sweet, historical romance where it is clear from the beginning that poor Phillip is weighted down by duty and responsibility and only later in the book do we come to find out why. I can't help but love Phillip just a little in that he never does lie about his feelings but since he does get caught in little white lies when the truth needs to be believed those that matter struggle with his honesty. Overall I felt that this was a sweet, on the shorter side historical romance that will give you a feel good HEA! Also...I loved the narration - I don't know why I think that historical romances should have accents so I was pleased when this one did (thank you)!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

I enjoyed this story with all of the characters. The main characters were
Julia and Allison Morgan and Phillip Heartford.

Julia and Allison Morgan are sisters. Allison is the older sister and Julia is younger. When an old friend show up they are both surprised. Allison is not happy to see this person again. Because of something that happened in the past. But for Julia after see him again is happy. She been want to know how he been.

Phillip Heartford has decided to return to his family home. He left some time years ago because of something that happened to his brother. He needs to find a wife and has decided to go after one of neighbors daughters.

This was a fun story to read. It had action and drama throughout. It had a few giggles within.

I received a complimentary audio copy via StoryOrigin. This is my honest unbiased opinion. The narrator did a good job telling the story.

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is an enjoyable clean romance. Julia and Philip have been friends since childhood. But, it has been about five years since they had seen each other when the death of Philip's brother caused Philip to move away. Now he is back to seek a bride and he thinks he wants Julia's beautiful sister.

It's a quick wholesome read with entertaining characters. While this is a pretty predictable path you're traveling, it was filled with good humor, good writing and a fun plot set at a good pace.

I really enjoyed the narrator, Megan Green. She did a nice job with the various characters.

Has he come back for you? Phillip knows that he needs to find a wife and he believes that Allison will do but he will need to pretend in front of her sister Julia as he has always loved her. Julia is so happy that he is back she has missed him but when he tells her that he wants to marry Allison she is hurt as she always hoped that he would be coming for her. She will do her best to get Allison to agree to his proposal but she doesn't realize that it just won't work. Allison wants nothing to do with Phillip she is in love with his brother and she blames him for his death. Will Phillip wake up before it is too late and Julia finds someone else? Will Julia believe Phillip when he comes to her? A good read.

I was anxiously waiting for Phillip to realize that he was in love with Miss Morgan. I enjoyed watching each sister squirm with Philip's marriage proposal. A simple misunderstanding was preventing him from proposing to the right sister. I thoroughly enjoyed the close bond between the sisters. I love that time period when woman had to be careful for their reputations. It seems so romantic to me, but I imagine it must have been a difficult time for the women for that time period. Even more so for women of limited means. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I can't wait to reread the next book in this series.

The story- 4/5

Setting of the book-4/5

Main Hero- 4/5(I loved Julia, but Phillip was just a little bit meeh)

Smexy Times?– Non, a very clean story

I loved the writing style. The Romance between our main couple was really cute . I enjoyed the "flashbacks" from Phillips and Julia's childhood. I wanted more of those.   It was a good story and I wanted more of it, I really felt like the story could be longer and still amazing(or maybe I just wanted more of this story). Overall I liked it , can't wait to read the sequel.

The Morgan sisters were entertaining.
What a quick a fun read! I very much enjoyed the author take on the Pride and Prejudice theme. Ms. Worth is a new author for me and I am looking forward to reading other work by her. Phillip, Julia, and Allison were interesting characters. The ending was priceless and a great lead-in for the next book. A great summer read that I highly recommend. To Marry a Morgan by Cinnamon Worth is a sweet story of friends with a second chance at love. There are secrets and lies that could destroy, best intentions, and the will of the heart. I really enjoyed this standalone listen. Megan Green was wonderful bringing the characters to life with her performance. She added the right emotions to the scenes. I would definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

To Marry a Morgan

I really enjoyed this story. It was a historical romance , which I like more than most. This story was about two sisters, who had their coming out, but no offers of marriage yet. Their childhood friend had returned to the neighboring estate. Phillip had decided to marry and wanted to marry one of the sisters. Well, it does get complicated, but you will enjoy this story.

I really enjoyed this book. Full of sweetness, this is a story of Julia who was separated from her childhood best-friend/crush (Philip) by tragedy and deceit.
Now, compared to her older sister, she feels like an ugly duckling. When Philip returns after the the tragic loss of his older brother, he plans to marry Julia’s sister.
This is a poignant story of a man who sees more in Julia than she can see in herself, two sisters making amends, and love conquering even the darkest secrets.

This is a sweet, clean quick read that was enjoyable. I like this writer very much and particularly enjoy her works of variations of Pride and Prejudice. The Morgan sisters in this book are entertaining and by the end of this book, I could see where things were headed for the next book in the series. I plan to read that one, too, but hope Me Worth will do more JAFF pieces in the duture.

Four stars, Julia and Phillip had history, but due to a tragedy that happen they parted.. Lots of misunderstandings and untruths.. Phillip under the assumption that Julia was in love with his decrease brother decided to marry her sister...So it goes on and on trying to straighten it out.. Good ending.

Misunderstood Love

I really enjoyed this book. The storyline is good, with rich characters who are all trying to do the right thing in spite of their personal feelings.

Cinnamon writes with humor and emotion. Her use of figures of speech made the story even better. This is a fun book and I recommend it to anyone who likes Regency romances.
