Pyre’s humans suffer multiple cultural shocks. They discovered the Messinants dome, an ancient construction that houses a quantum-coupled gate. More shocking, they find that sentient alien races utilize a network of these domes to journey between their far distant worlds in pursuit of alliance matters.
If humans wish to join this elite collection of sentients, they must contribute significantly in trade, tech, or something of equal value. Unfortunately, Pyreans are a nascent society, and they possess none of the economic attributes to recommend them to the alliance.
Her Highness Tacticnok, the Jatouche heir, makes Captain Harbour, a Pyrean empath, a tempting offer. Accepting Tacticnok’s offer has the potential to dramatically change the future of the struggling Pyreans for the better. However, Harbour must strike a balance with the various dysfunctional factions of her society if she wishes to engage the Jatouche.
Neither Tacticnok nor Harbour has any idea what the two races might discover mutually beneficial, but the Jatouche do have two great problems. Despite the superior medical services the Jatouche provide to every other species, they’re viewed as junior members of the alliance by the council, the Tsargit, and they dearly want that changed.
And there’s an ugliness that haunts the Jatouche. Their gate number five leads to the Colony, a collection of aggressive and deadly species bent on escaping their single world, and the Jatouche have no concept of how to confront the horror.
From my early years to the present, books have been a refuge. They’ve fueled my imagination. I’ve traveled to faraway places and met aliens with Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Herbert, and Le Guin. I’ve explored historical events with Michener and Clavell, and I played spy with Ludlum and Fleming.
There’s no doubt that the early sci-fi masters influenced the writing of my first two series, The Silver Ships and Pyreans. I crafted my stories to give readers intimate views of my characters, who wrestle with the challenges of living in space and inhabiting alien worlds.
Life is rarely easy for these characters, who encounter aliens and calamities, but they persist and flourish. I revel in examining humankind’s will to survive. Not everyone plays fair or exhibits concern for other beings, but that’s another aspect of humans and aliens that I investigate.
My stories offer hope for humans today about what they might accomplish tomorrow far from our home world. Throughout my books, humans exhibit a will to persevere, without detriment to the vast majority of others.
Readers have been generous with their comments, which they’ve left on Amazon and Goodreads for others to review. I truly enjoy what I do, and I’m pleased to read how my stories have positively affected many readers’ lives.
If you’ve read my books, please consider posting a review on Amazon and Goodreads for every book, even a short one. Reviews attract other readers and are a great help to indie authors, such as me.
The Silver Ships novels have reached Amazon’s coveted #1 and #2 Best-Selling Sci-Fi book, multiple times, in the science fiction categories of first contact, space opera, and alien invasion.
This is the third book in the Pyrean Series which is a spin-off series from the Silver Ships Series by S.H. Jucha. I had a time gap between books but after I got going into the book, I began to remember the story line from the prior book. Jucha has such interesting characters that it is easy to remember them. He is a great storyteller. I can hardly wait to start the next book. The ending of the Silver Ship Series has driven me into the various spin-off series so I can continue to follow the exciting characters and story line.
I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is fourteen hours and forty-one minutes. Nicole Poole does a great job narrating the story.
This book was truly great; I would give it six stars if I could. It continues the story of the people on the planet Pyre and their interaction with the alien race called Jatouche. I loved the naming convention used by the author for the members of the alien race that they interacted with. However, on some occasions I was not sure who was speaking because some of the names were so similar. This book really kept me occupied reading it and I can hardly wait for the next book. The story really does not end but gets to a point where you know there is more.
While I loved the book there are some questions that I hope will be answered in the next book(s). For one, how did women who migrated from Earth develop the power of empaths? It seemed to me that it is/was related to their consumption of "green". I would also like to know why the colonist left Earth and how they happened to settle on such an inhospitable planet as Pyre. In the story I would like to know whether the killer Sika and her benefactor Dorelyn are every caught and punished. And It will also be interesting to find out what gifts the Tsargit alien alliance counsel has for the Pryeans. The next book cannot come soon enough for me.
Another enjoyable read in the Silver Ships universe.
These books are fairly interesting, but do not hold my attention as much as the Silver Ships series. I think it's because they lack a truly charismatic character, and have too many main characters. There are no less than 4 Primary characters, several supporting and then 3 or 4 antagonists. The story would be better severed to have a little more focus.
Also, I get the princess is a strong woman in a male dominated society. Her "girl power" speeches and tendencies get annoying. Once, is showing her character, a few times reinforces it, overdone and it's tiresome. This is definitely overdone.
I look forward to the final book of the series, and can't wait til it ties into the main Silver Ships story.
This is honestly Jucha’s best work so far. The interplay between different characters, the political maneuvering, and the discoveries the Pyreans made were all spellbinding, frankly. While his dialogue can still be stilted and overly formal, there’s little difficulty in getting into the book, and while the story takes something like a year or a half year, Jucha keeps an incredible pace. At times, I had to stop reading to just bounce around in jubilation at what was transpiring. I love the Jatouche and Mangoth the Crocian, and I can’t wait to see even more of this series unfold!
I thoroughly enjoy the Silver Ships series and Pyreans is cut from the same cloth.S.H.Jucha again shows that you can have a great adventure without constant fighting and space battles, the fact that it is set in one system has allowed the character list be contained and developed without having to remember huge amounts of new characters with alien names, the series so far has followed the Pyreans struggles to survive in a hostile environments where justice and equality are forgotten terms and first contact opens doors to a new future and massive shifts in the political demographic.
The third book of this series a great fast paced action packed story. It shows the maturation of the leading characters, both human and alien. The spacers continue their collaboration with the aliens and the value of the empaths is recognized by all except the downsiders. I enjoy the psychological and sociological descriptions on the individuals as well as the groups. Pyre will benefit from the actions of the empath and spacers. I look forward to the next book. It is best to read the entire series to get a complete picture.
When you see a book with Scott Jucha's name on it just buy it and read it . You'll be very glad you did . I'm not one to do autopsies on the books I've read so I'm not gonna tell you the story you can read for yourself . If you're a fan of space opera this author has an amazing imagination . Add to that superb word craft and you'll be hard-pressed to put the book down . Please support this author.
Factions on and off Pyre and their different agendas are mixed with exploration of the domes which allow travel around the galaxy. Throughout it all the empaths and spacers fight, sometimes literally, to help all of Pyre. The Jatouche and their allies play their part in it all, too. The story sweeps along to a satisfying conclusion, at least for now, until the next book arrives.
This was an enjoyable story and I will be very happy to read the next book. I nearly gave the book four stars, but I did feel that there were several small irritations that kept making me want a bit more. For example although I liked the main characters, they are very much good or bad with no middle ground. I couldn’t help wishing that one or two of the ‘good’ characters would turn a little ‘grey’ and take a little retribution against the ‘families’. If possible I would have given 3.5 stars.
I absolutely love all these books. Mr. Jucha’s imagination is unparalleled.
I hesitated to start reading the Pyreans books because I was already engrossed in the Silver Ships novels and I didn’t believe another series could be as good but they definitely are. These characters are just as wonderful and interesting. The action is fast and suspenseful. Consider me a big fan of both of these series. I can’t wait for the next installment.
Book jam packed with action and character development
We get to learn more about not only the Jatouche but other sentient species. The exploration of dome complexes provides for riveting reading early on in the story. The results of the exploration and discoveries fills the rest of the book with political intrigue and a quite satisfying ending. Am looking forward to the next book.
This story of a human colony who had to settle on a destroyed planet and have some women who evolve empathetic power is a fantastic entertaining story. The humans make first contact with a galactic council and try everything they can to get help fixing their planet. Great series that I can't to read more of...After the next book of the other series.
A much better effort than Messinants in my opinion. We finally had events of significance happen which kept the pages turning and story moving along. My only concern for Mr. Jucha is I'm seeing many similar story threads and character types come through between his two series. Where are the characters that are morally gray? I really enjoy these books so keep them coming!
I thoroughly enjoyed the 'slight correlation' between the Family Heads, and our own Modern Counterparts....whether intended or not, it gave me a chuckle. It's never The Elite who have the best interests of The People in mind....much less an entire Planet! Looking forward to the next book!
This is a side story to S. H. Jucha's SILVER SHIPS saga. A group of humans, the Pyreans, makes contact with a sentient, technologically advanced alien race, the Jatouche. How they interact will determine if they have a progressive or bloody future relationship. Jucha is skillfully blending the side stories, four in all, into the SILVER SHIPS saga, now at book 16. Fascinating reading.
As the focus returns to Pyre, the politics ramps up a notch and we find the protagonists, and antagonists, locked in a clandestine fight for control. There were issues throughout, including some unwelcome stylistic changes, but none were sufficient to distract from the fundamentally enjoyable plot.
S. H. Jucha keeps the story of the Pyreans rolling with even more exploration into what it might be like for humans to interact with aliens. Great job with a wonderful story line providing ample opportunity for continued character development. Looking forward to the next installment and the merging with the Silver Ships series.
This is third book in this series and I can’t wait for the next one. This series is a thrilling and well written series that keeps you on your toes with great characters and twists and turns and you want to see what happens to the characters.
An underdeveloped species works to promote an allegiance member.
See how the upstart humans and their curiosity, courage and adventurous spirit impacts a new alien world and their own planet. Back home politics have to be sorted out. Great fun story.
There's plenty of human drama - relationship tension, espionage, murder - plus cute fury aliens bringing gifts. I can't wait to read about what happens next in the lives of these characters.
just as captivating as all books by S.H. Jucha! only the red-shirt was a bit too obvious from the beginning but that doesn't take any points away. Now on to wait for book 4 - hope it doesn't take too long!
Compared to the first two, I think this third book is not quite as good. But I am being picky because the first two were that good. Still giving a 5 star. Loving the series.
Was really enjoying the series up until this one. But some some of the minor issues I had in the previous book got stronger here and some of what I personally consider flat out poor story development in here just had me putting this down.
I loved the Silver Ships so tried this spin off. Whilst reading it I kept thinking why, but read it to the end. Overall all I can wiz that it was a real disappointment. Too much politics and going around corridors, not enough real action.
Hi I read the silver ships series then the gate ghost series after finishing 21 then 14 books I read the cercians series only 4 books I think now I up the 4th book in this series the Pyreans series enjoyed all 4 series
