East Africa, 1967-1975 Sarah and her brother, two naive kids from the midwest, are whisked away to attend high-school in Kenya. This humorous coming-of-age memoir reads like an adventure tale. It is filled with stories of their escapades into the wild with scientists, lion whisperers, explorers, world leaders, and even a FLOTUS. Their antics rival "Daktari" of television fame, but not to worry, Sarah saved her notes.
Real life memoir from a lively teen and her brother. Great view of life in Africa at a time of cultural and political change. Sarah and Adam are my cousins, so it was a special treat to hear family episodes including my aunt and uncle. Thanks Sarah for sharing this part of our family history!!
I was taken back by how brave a young girl from America could adapt to life in Kenya so easily. It was one adventure after another, none the same, some made me howl with laughter. I’ve had adventures in my life, but nothing close to this! Her writing made me feel like I was there too. Thank you so much Sarah for sharing a part of your life with me.
