Visiting the parents of the girlfriend*, the mother happening to be a demon lord, getting pushed into dropping a magic item (no, not a ring) into an active volcano, ending up with an even bigger debt, all in a days work of Loren. The characters and world are a bit silly, but it is the characters why I keep reading the series and this volume doesn't disappoint. It did feel a bit short though, but still very entertaining. All in all, a fun quick read.
* Edit: To be clear the word "girlfriend" and "boyfriend" are never outright stated, but the scenes most definitely play out like it. Lapis definitely sees Loren as boyfriend material. Loren's perspective on the matter is a bit more muddied though.
I feared lest this series was becoming boring, but Loren and Lapis’s trip to visit Lapis’s mother in Demon Country proved a lot of fun. The only problem with this novel was that it was far too short. Can’t wait for the translation of volume 10 in February. Perhaps, I’ll brush up on my Japanese so I won’t have to wait. However, I was more pleased with the adaptation of this volume than some of the prior ones. The person adapting it has a very good handle on English prose.
One of my favorite thing about this story is the characters. The author delivers characters with unique personalities and well built. Despite introducing characters in almost each volume, the author keeps this one simple, with just Mr Loren party and some others, introducing a couple more along the way. The story flows at a good pace and keeps you reading page after page. And of course, with some humor along the way, makings us laugh at Mr Loren rotten luck.
