Vigano vs the Vatican : The Uncensored Testimony of the Italian Journalist who Helped Break the Story

Rate this book
In an explosive August 2018 document, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò implicated many Catholic bishops – and Pope Francis himself – in a decades-long cover-up of the sexual crimes of the now-disgraced serial predator, former cardinal Theodore McCarrick, long the most powerful figure in the American Church. Shocking faithful Catholics worldwide, Pope Francis refused to deny the accusations that Archbishop Viganò made against him in that ten-page document. Stunned himself, Marco Tosatti, the Italian journalist who first broke the story of the cover-up, here recounts the whole sordid tale. In this alarming report, you will learn of McCarrick’s long-time abuses of seminarians and young priests, his inexplicable promotions to the highest ranks in the Church (despite widespread knowledge of his crimes), and the scandalous cover-up that has traumatized the Catholic world and continues to this day. Among the things you’ll find Decades of warnings sent to the Vatican about the predator McCarrick – warnings that Church officials brushed aside Archbishop Viganò’s private 2013 meeting with the pope, detailing McCarrick’s sexual abuse of seminarians and young priests The refusal of Pope Francis to deny Viganò’s claims, or even to comment Other clerical miscreants the pope has appointed to high Vatican offices THE The millions of dollars the Church has spent to silence McCarrick’s victims The one and only point the Vatican MUST explain – but thus far will not The real source of the rot at the top levels of the Church It is all here – the names, dates, and damning documents – details that lead many to conclude, with Archbishop Viganò, that far from finally drawing to a close, the cover-up of clerical sexual crimes continues apace and appears to reach the very highest offices of Holy Mother Church.

Quick and easy read. Great overview of quite a serious matter, but important nonetheless. I'll have a more thorough analysis in substack within the week. Hopefully.

This is a detailed and conscientious testimony to corruption that is happening in the church hierarchy. This is specific to the now de-frocked Theodore McCarrick. In my effort to be an informed Catholic, especially in light of recent events regarding the desecration of statues, restrictions on in-person church attendance and the general feeling that there is a lack of leadership/communication with laity I’ve been compelled to seek answers through my own research. I remain steadfast in my faith and regardless of the corruption that is occurring within the church it cannot infect the true meaning of what it means to be Catholic. Our commitment to receiving Christ, studying the Bible, praying for ourselves and others to include the daily rosary and Liturgy of the Hours must remain. Our catechism, and cannon law while being abused are not forgotten in this journey of trial we Catholics are on in pursuit of taking up our cross to follow Christ.

I thought I knew the Viganò story before; I was wrong.

This book the relatively short and simple story of Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, former po apal nuncio to the United States and his controversy with Pope Francis over Theodore Cardinal McCarrick. It does so from the perspective of a long time reporter on Vatican affairs, Marco Tosatti.

Though I thought I had a good working knowledge of the story, this book put the entire story together for me and put it into perspective. As a Catholic, the story told here is not one I ever expected or wanted to see told. It is a story the I have come to see as describing a festering abscess as it gathers. It is also, I hope and pray, the lancet that will begin the curative process.

Time will tell whether the Church will suffer some pain and then heal or continue into more severe illness.

Our Pope Francis

I recommend this pope to read this book and stand before us with the truth. As a Catholic, I wonder if this pope believes in hell and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Does he even believe in hell, and what our Lord Jesus said, to those who lead His people. Woe to you who lead my people astray. I pray for this pope Francis that he wakes up to the damage that he is doing to our Catholic Church. And may God have mercy on his soul!!!!!

A profound failure of spiritual leadership

The Catholic Church for decades has not only suffered from incompetent leadership on all levels but has embraced perverse leadership in peter’s chair.

Truth!

As a Catholic, this is very hard to read. I do believe it's all true. This the way Satan is trying to destroy the Church. I am afraid society is not far behind. God bless those who choose to tell the truth. I will continue to pray for our Church.

I was familiar with the content. The style of writing is brief and fact focused. A quick read from Sophia Institute Press, Crisis in the Church series
