Ever and Immortality and the Apocalypse Rick King, a Viet Nam veteran is lost in the final stages of Alzheimers in a moderate long term care home, when something strange happens. He awakens in a long-term care facility for the indigent. As Rick regains his strength and fights for his stolen life and wealth, elegant Marsha Wren in the exact same situation, joins Rick as they struggle to get their lives back, while they avoid the danger of ending up in a government laboratory. While regaining their strength and independence they are also growing younger in health and appearance. They have no idea how young they will end up or how long they will live, are they immortal? One thing they know is that if they live long enough the world and the United States will change. How or when they have no way of knowing, just that change will occur. They position themselves as best as they can, fighting a survivalist group, when as predicted the apocalypse occurs. They will live, but can civilization survive?
I've read other books by this author that I've loved. But this one finally got so annoying that I couldn't finish. Initially it was the paternalistic sexism that set my teeth on edge. Things like, "I was smart enough to keep my mouth shut" which may seem cute the first time but is in reality condescending. But what finally got annoying to the point not being able to finish the book are the right wing lies about the left presented as accepted truth. Like "liberals don't care about people, they just want power". It's loathsome when I have to encounter such insults in real life, but I don't have to put up with it in light reading. And it's a pity, as the author is a good writer and had been one of my favorites.
I have a family mutation that makes many of us nearly immortal, i.e. we can only die by EXTREME violence. Because of this we often go into the armed forces as a kind of right of passage.
So for SOME reason a tale about a near-imortal ex military man resonates with me, lol. Especially when it is well written!
Although the editing is ATROCIOUS, I am sad to say...so bad that I cannot give it 5 stars.
I have read this author on an amateur author site. I have to tell you, this story, while very good, isn’t his best work. I can’t wait for his long running story to come to Amazon.
Like the book, Yes Jackson series is best. However that series one of my top five active series. Plus like the mix or SiFi and Prepper book. Plus my type f preping no zombie bike gang to fight of
This was a fun book to read. I like the action it did get repetitive towards the end that I think the author could’ve shortened. I look forward to reading the next book and series.
A very interesting story and started very good. It advanced in a jumpy fashion but overall I enjoyed the story. Now it needs book 2 and hopefully it will rate 5 stars.
Love this author and this book started our really interesting. I kind of got tired of them getting everything that they needed, like a nuclear reactor etc but overall a good book. I will read the next installment for sure.
I have read this book And most of the engineer in time series. The boos lack sometimes but the stories are page turner. I find the story to be a blue print on how a world could go and the main characters are in-depth and interesting.
Even if I agree with the politics and ideology , some of which I did and some which I didn't, I don't wanna hear it. That's not why I'm reading science fiction and fantasy
Rick and Martha, were left to die in a senior living center. An experimental treatment causes them to gain back their health and reverses their aging process. Meanwhile, the world moves to a pre-apocalyptic phase and the fun begins. A lively story about some really bad times.
