Growing up among non-magical folk, I never thought I was anything special. Sure, I had magic, but the powers had diluted over the generations.
I never even dreamed of going to a magic academy – I didn’t have the money or the power. Not until I was granted a scholarship.
But Arcane Academy isn’t exactly welcoming for someone like me. Old magical families hold the power and not everyone is happy to have someone like me in their midst.
Three guys especially single me out. They try to intimidate me, but I won’t let them.
I belong here. Just as they do.
When one of the guys takes it a step too far, my magic erupts like never before.
I might be something special after all… And the guys see it too.
They all want me now. And no one is laughing.
Welcome to Arcane Academy is the first book in the Arcane Academy series, which follows Izzy's adventures in a prestigious magic academy.
There was almost no world building, just a couple of offhand comments. There was zero character development, even the most basic attempt was made for the FMC and the bullies were just one dimensional caricatures. There was certainly no relationship building, just a 180 degree turn from the girl who was bullied to the girl losing her knickers to said bully after a half a$$ed apology. This read like a story outline that still needs work, NOT an actual story. I don't feel the need to read anything else by this author.
Because of her upbringing, Izzy is disliked by most of her new magical classmates. Along with her new friends, she has to navigate snobbery and derision. Three hot boys seem attracted to her, but also give off vibes she doesn't understand. Something unusual happens, and suddenly, she is very popular, but is it for the right reason? Follow her as she navigates school and her magical abilities.
What is this? 3 books together don't even make a regular one. I really don't understand why "authors" do this on Kindle when they have other avenues for this kind of format - Wattpad, Kindle Vella. The books are chapters.
Spoilers possible:
The book descriptions are wrong and nothing like the books.
A girl from human world goes to magic academy on scholarship. 3 boys bully her and by bully the author means one tells her "that is my chair", 2nd shoulder bumps her and 3rd tells her to leave. She gets mad and surprise she has a lot of magic and is quite unique. Well not so unique because someone else has the same magic as her....but let's stick to how special she is and now call her a queen. So she needs a harem because her magic makes her draw other men to her and she gets horny after using the magic. So one of the men with the same ability doesn't need a harem of his own and isn't he a "queen" too because literally he has the same magic as her. The men actually all ignore her and she chases after them.
I read all 3 in 10 minutes because again these are not books but chapters divided in books. - lot's of plot holes - no character development, well there is no character to begin with it's all a shell - the spicy scenes are nothing 🔥 which is so laughable!!!
This is perfect example of just because you can you shouldn't. Wrong platform author....
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. It is a reverse harem bully romance. Welcome to Arcane Academy. This story follows Izzy's adventures in a prestigious magic academy. Growing up among non-magical folk, she never thought she was anything special. Sure, she had magic, but the powers had diluted over the generations. She never even dreamed of going to a magic academy for she didn’t have the money or the power, not until she was granted a scholarship. Unfortunately, the academy isn’t exactly welcoming for someone like her because old magical families hold the power and not everyone is happy to have someone like her in their midst. Three guys especially single her out and they try to intimidate her, but she won’t let them for she belongs there, just as they do. When one of the guys takes it a step too far, her magic erupts like never before and she might be something special after all and the guys see it too, for they all want her now, and no one is laughing. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I highly recommend to everyone.
I didn’t realize that this was a novella and was trying to get over the fact that there was no world building, no real intro to the characters (not even the FMC to be honest. It reads almost like either a kindle Vella story or something from the pay by the chapter apps. Officially gave up after the library scene. Four seconds of “Allow me to make it up to you” really shouldn’t devolve into a bullied female immediately going for happy time in the library. Skipping on the rest of the books in the “series” since honestly I don’t know enough about the characters to care what happens to them
It's a shorty but it shows real promise! Really, this is more an introduction into this new world of magic. We meet the MC and the love interests, get a bit of action, and the possibility of so much more! I felt the writing flowed well. I would have loved more of the story, but it sounds like more will be coming so I'll definitely be checking back to continue the story. There's a lot more to be explored in the magical community, in the MC and in the romance, bring it! 😊
I turned the page expecting another chapter to begin,.. but Nooo..! What it asked was if I enjoyed the story!
GASP!
I was enjoying the story, even though I was starting to think that it was more insta-love than bully romance. The story was a lot of potential,.. and the Author can create something truly dramatic in the second book. I honestly hope that it's revised and extended to include a lead up to the sudden splurge of Cupids attack. Right now I'm not sure where the book will go from here, but I have some idea. I suppose I'll find out in the next issue..
Ok this book was so short that I thought I only got part of the book.. The story line is confusing so far, I mean don’t get me wrong, I am very interested in Izzy story, just frustrating how fast things are moving, but at the same time it’s kind of refreshing because some books drag the story line out to the fact that it would make me lose interest.. And I can honestly say that I’m not losing interest in this story at all, as a matter of fact I’m very much invested.. So I’m off to get started on the next book in this series..
The concept is interesting. That said, there is no character development. The bullies are your typical “rule the school” trope bullies. Izzy is clearly also not the brightest crayon in the box if she believed Wilson’s apology. She is mad at him, let’s him apologize, and then whoops she apparently needs the D. I mean seriously. This should be a fanfiction. With more focus on developing characters and plot…and a good editor..this author has promise.
Simplistic unoriginal plot moving at breakneck speed - most of the action of the first large portion of the book took place on the first day of school (though the author gets confused and calls it three days at one point). Then the FMC discovers her magical powers, knows the boys are suddenly being nice to her, and decides to immediately forgive them - now within the first three days of school. Also, no real traumatic bullying happens in that first day, but she acts like she was abused horribly when speaking with the doctor - who is also shocked by the 'severity' of the bullying. FMC was unlikable and whiny. So were the love interests. DNF.
I think the story is really skipping on story. Literally instantly bullied, then a magical breakthrough and sudden instant changes in fortune, the bullies are in lust with her. The backstory and general worldbuilding do not engage me, and the mc is willing to immediately forgive, forget, and have sex with one of the bullies. It needs more story, more other things besides the 3 bullies.
I guess this had originally been published in an anthology. It's a short and fast read, but I think it is a little too fast paced. The timeline didn't seem to match up to me. How the harem and main female came together seemed a little iffy. Overall, I just wasn't impressed by it. I think if it was fleshed out a bit, it could be a really great story. Not saying that it isn't now, just wasn't for me.
I really enjoyed this short story i literally blew through the book and when it came to the end it was like is that all there is? I am really hoping that the next book is not 37 pages and is a bit longer or I am going to be disappointed. This story was getting to the good bits and then it stopped… I am going to see what the next book has in store before I really get going.
The most surface level story building ever. The characters don’t even interact that much. They hate her because she’s not rich. Find out she’s powerful. Gives the worst apology in history by saying he thought she was beneath him so he was mad but now that she’s proven powerful he’s attracted???? And then they start making out???? I think I read better written stories from my friend’s notebook in middle school.
This is another one that I wanted to dnf but it was like I couldn’t put it down I was too curious about what would happen next and that curiosity kept my finger moving.
I do want to see how this story continues as her immediate attraction to these dudes is lowkey pissing me off especially when they bullied in the first few days or so that she was there.
Why was this book so damn short?!with little to no explanation like why
This was a speed read. It was over before I could really get into it. Too much happened in a short amount of time with very little detail. It does have me wondering what's next. I mean, is this an appetizer to a delicious entree or is this series going to be junk food snacks? I guess I will find out in the next book.
A wonderfully introductionary romp to a new series
If you avoid books that advertise "bully" like I usually do you will miss a very interesting short story. The story has a sassy female lead with an unusual power, and the introduction of three cute cocky boytoys. And best of all... No angst, I HATE angest. I say OWN your sass! And I love a character who does hence the 5 stars.
I was mildly intrigued by the synopsis and thought $.99 a steal, but was severely disappointed. Not enough background development in either the people or storyline, limited and stilted dialogue between characters and way too short ( I wouldn't even classify this as a novella).
I liked this story but I was sad it was so short. The men weren’t the worst bullies I’ve read about actually they were by far the nicest. Only three events of bully one from each male. I loved Izzy. She stood up for herself which is a good quality to have. I will definitely be reading the next book!
Disappointed, the MC basically screwed one of the guys who was bullying her almost immediately in a public place. I understand that her libido is out of control because of her powers but does that seriously lead to sex with her bully in the library? I hate when girls are portrayed as being ruled by their emotions &/or hormones. Females are not animals and have the ability to make choices.
So confused..The guys hate her in pages 1-5, learn of her magic in pages 6-10 and now wants to be with her in pages 10-15 and end of story. Where is the middle and ending of this book? Good thing I used Kindle Unlimited because I would have been very angry if I actually purchased. Please go back to the drawing board with this one
I guess I was expecting somthing more for the bullying to be a little more drawn out and not her to fall so fast or the men to fall so fast. But I guess it was alright for a short story.
Felt like the story was kind of short, not too much to it and it went very fast. There wasn’t a relaxed feeling to it, more like a rushed feeling. The plot was good, just wish it was longer
I read it in less then an hour and here is the whole plot... 1. Girl gets special invite to a magic school 2.Girl gets bullied 3.Girl finds power 4.Girl has a lot of sex 5.Book ends
The story itself is good, but 2 things. The story needs more to it. Way too short and cuts off weirdly. Then the relationships between her and the guys is just off. Not enough interactions or talking, just instant changes. Seems rushed.
There’s absolutely no character development added to the fact that the story seems to jump around with absolutely no rhyme or reason this is a hard pass.
Izzy grew up in the Normal world and now has a scholarship to a magic academy. Of course the rich, well-established boys have to bully her. Things change when her magic is something they never expected.
