This is the first installment of a two part story. Each book tells a saga on its own but the two books may be read in series. The first book involves survivors in a post apocalyptic Earth while the second book takes the story to an extra-solar conclusion. In the not too distant future an AI controlled habitat saves the best of humanity from an apocalyptic event that reshapes the face of the Earth. For almost a thousand years the AI kept them safe within the shield. A young man escapes to discover other people survived the event but with a hatred for those who locked their ancestors outside. The world has changed both for those under the influence of the AI and for the people of Newton searching for the fabled city. Inside the city AI guided the evolution of man and isolated him from the outside environment. Those who survived outside the influence of the AI struggled to rebuild their lost world and searched for the technology they believed would be found in the city. When Li and Su were found outside the shield the two worlds collide

This book puts a new spin on AI I was not quite expecting. I loved the read and hated putting it down to go to work. I can't wait for the next book.
