Librarian's Note: There is an Alternate Cover Edition for this ISBN here.
Ryder is a bad boy, or at least that's what he wants everyone to think. He tries to act like a bully, edgy, and cruel, and it works for the most part.
Spencer doesn't like to be called a nerd but deep down he knows he is to a certain extent. He is bored of everything and he sees the good in people, but will he find any good in Ryder?
When destiny brings these two boys together in the form of roommates, they refuse it. What they didn't know is that destiny is stronger than both of their opinions. The bitter, the sweet, the beautiful, and the traumatizing: They go through it all. Sometimes alone, and sometimes together. However, destiny's games are endless, and no matter how close they'll get, there's always something to tear them apart.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Roommates by Aiden Summers. I laughed and cried throughout the entire book. I liked the way Aiden had alternated between Ryder and Spencer's point of view, as it made the storytelling more intense than it already was. I miss them already and I hope there will be more to come from them.
Okay, so positives. The story was cute and I liked Spencer a lot and there was a host of supporting characters that were great, in particular Jack and Hunter. The bad? Is it 1st person, 3rd person, present or past tense?? Seriously my head hurt sometimes. It also needed a proof-reader. There were whole sentences that didn't make sense, words that were wrong and continuity errors galore - Jack was an art student and then suddenly a business student because it fit the story. Hair colour changed for Livi. Also wtf was that ending??? 2 years! I about near had a heart attack
I liked the concept of the book and it had potential I just couldn't get past the writing style and how the main character acted. I was sad that it didn't meet my expectations
I remember when I read this on Wattpad. The book was really good when I read it as a teenager, not as much of my speed now, but I think it would be a good read for a high school/ college age reader.
1st read: October 24, 2020 2nd read: June 26, 2021 Updated review: I reduced the rating to 1 star because, oh my gosh, I had forgotten how badly written this book was--breaking the fourth wall so often, terrible grammar, random dreamscapes and lyrics and other mental weirdness even from the main character without mental health problems. The plot honestly got worse and worse the further on the story went. The character development wasn't good either. It honestly doesn't even feel like a romance. Half of the time, they don't even seem to be friends, and then, they fall into lust despite all kinds of other life chaos that should have prevented it like Ryder's girlfriend; yes, she was awful and cheated on him first, but two wrongs don't make a right. The saving grace for this novel was how the author portrayed Spencer's depression and anxiety because Summers did a good job there, and now, I have zero desire to read the sequel to this book, the existence of which had prompted me to reread this book in the first place.
I’m sorry.. I hate to give it a 1 star rating but it was bad :/ The writing was mediocre and the story was lame. And apparently every damn person was gay. Like everyone. Spencer and Ryder were boring MCs. Soooo many typos in this book, it legit was giving me anxiety.
