Post-Apocalyptic Fiction by N.C. Reed Clay Sanders has learned a great deal since the world stopped working. One of those lessons is that while he may run out of everything else, especially patience, he never seems to run out of problems. His grandfather, who believed him when Clay came home with a fantastic tale of coming destruction, the man who helped him organize and implement the plan to save his family, is slowly succumbing to old age, his health failing. His mother has more or less stopped speaking to him. Awkward when you live a hundred yards away. The nearby town that was his boyhood stomping ground is struggling to get back on her feet with the farm's assistance, but the town also has elements that have a strong dislike for Clay and don't mind making it known, even to the point of outright lies. It seems as if someone is always thinking they are somehow entitled to 'their fair share' of everything the Sanders have worked for over a half-dozen generations. No matter how much they help, it's never enough. Now there's a destructive survivalist group that has terrorized rural areas to the south and is now looking toward Clay's neighborhood as their next conquest. Their motto is simple; if they can take it, they deserve it. Yes sir, problems are one thing that Clayton Sanders never seems to run out of. Even at the end of the world as we know it. EXCERPT FROM HOSTILE FIRE PROLOGUE William Shirley watched as the people he had assembled for what others were calling a 'reconnaissance in force' gathered their equipment and shook down their ranks. He had combined three different 'squads' into a new platoon of thirty-one people, adding that force to an established platoon of thirty-five more. They would head north in a small string of vehicles that included a school bus to investigate the situation north of the Alabama-Tennessee state line. Shirley's group, the self-entitled 'North Alabama People's Militia' had lost a great deal of personnel and equipment in that area and he wanted to know why and to who. It was inevitable that the group would have to head north at some point in search of supplies. They had stripped their own area nearly bare over the last few months and moving too far south was out of the question. While he considered Decatur to be part of their 'territory', moving any further south than that risked a confrontation with the gangs of Birmingham, something his group lacked the strength for. There had already been a few skirmishes between the two groups and Shirley was determined to avoid any more clashes with such a large and vicious outfit. So north it was, into rural middle Tennessee. The area immediately north of the line should be safe enough and resource rich. That area was full of farms and livestock operations that should yield a good amount of food for his operation, and he meant to have it. If they waited too long then someone stronger, either from Nashville or perhaps Chattanooga might move into the area and declare it theirs. If the Militia wanted that territory and the goods it might provide, they had to act soon. And tomorrow should be soon enough. Sixty-six heavily armed 'troops' would move north and keep moving until they found opposition or else found something worth sending word for trucks to carry it back to the compound. If he was lucky, they would also find out who had killed his niece and his fellow board member's son. He looked forward to that. When he found whoever had killed his people he would show them what a mistake they had made.
This is another terrific book in one of my now-favorite series. There were a couple of editing issues (rouge instead of rogue etc) but nothing distracting. Clay, while integral to the story, was a little less prominent, so gave other characters a chance to shine, including two new ones in Jordan. The conclusion of the Huntsville story line was very satisfying and we are left with a segue for the next book. I hope it comes out soon!
THIS BOOK & SERIES IS A MUST READ IF YOU ENJOY A BOOK WITH ACTION & FAMILY VALUES
Fire From the Sky: Hostile Fire book seven by N.C. Reed is a great book and series if you enjoy a post-apocalyptic brought on by a solar flare that has taken out just about everything electrical and has caused everyone to just about forced back into the 1800's as far as technology goes, has brought out all sorts of evil in some of the surviving of the past months, but at the sametime, a group of people that have banded together fight not only to stay alive and free but to also help those within their community as well. The group of survivors are family, love ones, friends, and fellow survivors from within their community living on a family farm doing the best they can to not only get by day to day but to be able to provide and protect their little community for future generations to come.
N.C. Reed has written another great book in this series that will hold your interest from the first page to the last. The characters are well defined and you will find yourself routing for them against the odds they face from everything from family and community relationships and struggles to bands of people which are out to take from those that are weak and can not protect themselves. The main characters in this series have, for the most part, a high standard for what's right, with high morals, and a strong drive to protect their family, friends, and community.
I have really enjoyed this book and series and hope you will too.
Long on character development and exposition short on action.
I wrote a review of The fifth Book of the series, at the time I thought it was the most recent one, I am so happy it was not. I enjoyed this book but not as well as the fifth book of the series. The book was too long on character development and interpersonal dynamics between the cast of the book. Most of the action did not come until the end of the book. First of all let me say I do enjoy the character development but I think that The personal dynamics and the action sequences should be more balanced. I love Clay, we should see more of his wild side as well as Leon, X, brick, and the twins. The authors development and realism concerning social issues of the day was very well done. Hate the sin, not the sinner. Actually mentioned in any Bible people wanna read. I just wish he would not leave us on a cliffhanger. I would read the next book cliffhanger or not. That’s how well done I Believe The series is.
I started this series some time ago, dont remember why I stopped! I stumbled into the followon series about Parno. Fascinated by it. I wondered how it all came about, then remembered these books, and started all over again.
Mr Reed, no relation, has put together a shitpot of great books. While there are miniscule errors (just for grammer nazi's), he has written an awesome story covering hundreds of years. All after a massive solarstorm predicted by a witchman in deep Africa.
No one will ever call the Sanders family perfect, lawful or great public figures. They resemble a clan in deep rural Tennessee. Along with a group of former special forces type soldiers who spent years deeply embedded in shitspots all over the world. Why? Clay Saunders, former Lt who led these men all those years.
Buckle up, lots of action, intrique, strong language and massive heavy violence. Thank you Mr Reed, great job.
well this is book seven so if you'd gotten this far you know how good NC Reed is. two year ago when I signed up for Kindle Unlimited I found the prepping books and read all I could get. however got burn out, but bcuz reed one of the few I still enjoy. I love the prepping part after the event I lose interest after a few books into any series. not with the fire series, but book one is still my favorite NC Reed book (parenos being my favorite series). was rereading last few books to get ready for book 7 when a thought hit me. NC Reed is like game of thrones but instead of killing then he make you hate the charters he works so make you love. finally at the end of the book another thought hit me we must have a prequel spin-off of Brick and X growing up.
Mr. Reed does a masterful job telling a great story. The characters are well developed and entertaining. The plot is engaging and believable. The action is non-stop. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. Mr. Reed has become one of my favorite authors.
I only have one negative comment. The proof reading of this book does not seem to be of the same quality as the prior books in this series. Having said that, it did not stop me from enjoying this book and it certainly will not stop me from enjoying the next book in the series.
I only have one regret about the series and that is that the popularity of the series seems to have precluded additional books in the "Parno" series and the "Stormcrow" series - two other series written by Mr. Reed which I have also enjoyed very much.
I'm probably so far outside of the target demographic for this series that no one who is within it can see me from their porch. 😼 But I just love it. The author really "does" people incredibly well and writes an extensive range of character types. Beyond impressed.
Really appreciated the author sharing the importance of Amazon reviews. I really am uncertain of the wisdom of linking reviews to perks, benefits, status, ranking, etc. No reviews, and low reviews, hurt an author. If you've got something 3 stars or less, you can post at Goodreads and the author will see it. 4+ star ratings at Goodreads don't help at Amazon. You want to support an author? Leave a 4+ review at Amazon. 22 words will do it? (And please, let others know.)
Finally! Let me just say that every book in the series is great but we are finally making in some in roads with the bigger regional threats, making the town responsible for itself, and different interpersonal relationships within our main characters and I’m so here for it. This is probably my second favorite in the whole series.
1 star for interpersonal development/characterization 1 star for furthering the story/world building 1 star for all the action 1 star for great writing -1 star some of the technical wording about guns and military vehicles lost and for me personally slowed down the story but since this is military fiction it’s probably just a me thing
Corny headline or what?? Lol Truth is, this series’s ability to satisfy soldiers on- as well as to entertain on every level. There was one point during this story I found myself literally “on the edge of my seat,” to use that worn phrase, but it best sums the experience up. I rarely feel that way when reading these days. An authentic tribute to the author’s master of the craft. The characters and the world we have come to know so well continues to become richer, as well as evolve and grow. Remaining comfortably familiar while endlessly surprising and exciting. Fire fits quite nicely on the cream of the crop apocalypse series shelf of our time. I cannot wait for the continuation of the story!!
Excellent extended plot through all 6 books, but...
I have read all 6 books in order and love the plot and character development. Lots of action and continues with the story line accuracy from one volume to the next. Surprise developments when unexpected. My problem with all of the books is poor copy reading, which makes me have to slow down or stop reading and go back to see what the problem was. Too many errors mainly with typos or repeating words. It makes the books hard to follow and very frustrating. You need someone to follow your editor or/and copywriter to catch all of the errors. I'm still waiting for the next volume to see who and where Pastor Nutty is. I hope I will be pleased with the movement of the writing. Expecting to see flow improvements.
Since the first book, this series has been a reading treat. The characters have been developing in each book. The basic theme does embrace the prepping culture but Mr. Reed has taken that philosophy and blended it with some very human qualities (And also some very human faults) to create a thoroughly entertaining story. One constant question of the review is who would I recommend this book to? Let's see---Steven Spielberg, George Lucas to name a few, maybe that upstart outfit called Paramount get the idea? As a movie Franchise this series would give the Fast and Furious a run for their money. Great work thanks for your hard work Bill Hodges P.S. You even beat the pre-order date out-freaking-standing.
I have adored this series. I feel I’m in the Sanders farm and I know everyone personally. I smile at the remarks made to one another, I cringe when I know something someone is about to say and I just overall love the characters. The storyline has not faltered, it has not bored me one iota in the whole 9 books. That says a lot. I do not skip paragraphs or fast read as I immensely enjoy every word written. I can not wait until this next book and I can honestly say I could read another nine in this series and not get bored. What a brilliant writer.
Just when you think you begin to know how N.C. Reed writes, they throw a curveball that sends you for a loop. Not afraid to invest some pages to get us to better understand a character, to begin to sympathize and, maybe, even cheerlead for them, only for them to get blown away.
Most authors do that only if there is redemption to be had, but for some in the "Fire from the Sky" universe there is only death and damnation. There are still a few one-dimensional characters who are destined for a gory or sad end, but you never can tell whether the characters who have their own thoughts and motivations written about will be sticking around for long.
You are an awesome idealistic, but there is A LOT of truth and understanding of what we are and will become when it's our turn. You show understanding of the times with each book you write. You see what many of us see and fear, but sadly most are blinded by The "that would never happen here in America" syndrome. The Sanders Saga could, and most probably will be in one form or another, our reality in a not too distant future. For those that are blind, it sucks to be you. I've bought your books, and I can't wait for book 8! AZ
Mr. Reed I don't write a lot of reviews, but just this one from a reader who has read every book you have written. I will be honest I love the Parno books the BEST. I can tell how much time you put into writing them. Next the Fire series has grited me hard to. I can see your interest in writing them. I hope by saying that they all should have a five 🌟 star rating will be important to you. I hope that Amazon and Goodreads will read this review, for I am writing it from my heart. THANK YOU MR. REED
In this series. The whole series has been great. A compelling, realistic scenario for landing us in a post-apocalyptic world. The characters are well drawn and fleshed out. Some to love, some to hate & some to be aggravated with. I love that the heroes aren't always the soldiers. The author is often open to the others in the group who don't share his background. Now I have to wait for Book number 8!
I read all the books in this series I’m not sure if there will be anymore I would hope there will be. They have been well written, the story told in each book have been riveting and exciting which makes them hard to take a break from reading me eyes are old (smile) they start to water after reading for hour. Great reading really worth getting them you’ll will really enjoy each book
If never surprises me that in every hodge podge of people. That there is a small group of people within that larger group that will do every thing they can to destroy the ones giving all the help and other thing like food and weapons that are needed to survive. This story has many such groups. The Sanders family is hated by all. The question is why? Well you will have too read all this series to find out.
the farm and town unite against a common foe. Reed is a master of dialog between his characters, and uses it to shine a light on the types of people who create trouble for those doing good for the majority. I hate people who manipulate and bully others to think only like them. they exert pressure to get their way. I fight back, or like Clay leave them in their own mess. Great series.
I have read this series from the first book to this last one. When I am reading I am in the story. I cheer for the good guys and hate the and guys. Also the stupid, lazy, and especially the ones that feel they are entitled. There are a lot of characters, but I have feelings for each one.
I haven't been the best fan in the world, and haven't reviewed every book in the series, but that's been because I've been interested in reading the next book in the series. I hope Mr Reed will continue the story of Rev Nutcase and his minions. Without this the series really isn't over.
You did it again! I absolutely love the Fire series. This one was no slouch either. Old man is my favorite. He has the wisdom of time. The brothers are getting together, mama will get it together, I hope. Can’t wait for the next in The series. Thank You for writing these books.
While I love reading and of the world books this series took me by surprise. I love all the characters, good and bad, and I love the suspense. Once I started the series it took me less than nine days to finish it. Great people and great storyline. Anxiously awaiting number eight.
5 stars to a fantastic series. Almost perfectly typed out. I was hoping the other town would have been drawn into the area of influence for more security. Maybe in the next episode. Hint hint. I would like to see exploration in other areas across America to add a revival of agriculture and animal husbandry. Whatever comes in next episode I want it now.
This series is a great addition to the post shtf genre. As each book develops, the story becomes richer and more detailed. The action is realistic and the characters believable. I await each new release in the series with great anticipation. I recommend this series to any reader who is a fan of this genre of fiction
That's probably the best word I can use to show my feelings towards your work. This series has given me many hours of delightful reading. I got so engrossed with the story that I finally realize it is three in the morning. The only problem I have is trying to remember the different characters in the story. I'm ready to read the rest book
The author is retelling the vents over and over and over….. Too much boring dialogue. The book has very little action. I did enjoy the first few books in the series, but I think the author may have run out of story. I literally scrolled past 60% of the text to skip dialogue that did nothing to advance the story.
I have read the previous 6 books and they are outstanding. The characters are sometimes scary and complex but enjoyable to follow. The depictions of life after an apocalypse seem believable. I learned a lot about farming and fighting. The action is great. This is the best post apocalypse I have read and I have read many of them.
