Whisper Network Sneak Peek

Rate this book

“If only you’d listened to us, none of this would have happened.”

Sloane, Ardie, Grace, and Rosalita have worked at Truviv, Inc. for years. The sudden death of Truviv’s CEO means their boss, Ames, will likely take over the entire company. Each of the women has a different relationship with Ames, who has always been surrounded by whispers about how he treats women. Those whispers have been ignored, swept under the rug, hidden away by those in charge.

But the world has changed, and the women are watching this promotion differently. This time, when they find out Ames is making an inappropriate move on a colleague, they aren’t willing to let it go. This time, they’ve decided enough is enough.

Sloane and her colleagues’ decision to take a stand sets in motion a catastrophic shift in the office. Lies will be uncovered. Secrets will be exposed. And not everyone will survive. All of their lives—as women, colleagues, mothers, wives, friends, even adversaries—will change dramatically as a result.

"If only you had listened to us,” they tell us on page one, “none of this would have happened."

I just cannot get into this book at all. I've tried several times but I can't get past the first five chapters before I become almost comatose with boredom. I don't know why I have such difficulty with the characters, but I don't seem able to distinguish one from the other as they're all so bland.

From the little I've read it's a commentary on the issues women face particularly in the world of big corporations. It's Women versus Men, but all the characters, as well as being bland, are nor especially likeable. I couldn't relate to any of them.

I wonder if I would have enjoyed this had I been forty years younger, but I hinestly have to say that life is too short to struggle with a book that doesn't grab me within the first few pages.

My thanks to Netgalley and amazon for Arcs

I read this for book club and really wanted to like it but rating it 3 stars is a stretch. The book was convoluted and written chick-lit trendy style, which I highly dislike. The characters kind of melted into one another and the plot was predictable. The topic was compelling but it could have been done better.

Edit: could've done without the audio author's note; ugh

SPOILER ALERT.

Love, love, love, love. If you work in the legal field, in a large "boutique" firm, this book will resonate with you. Didn't want it to end. But really adored how it did -- my favorite part might be harsh but you have to love when the bad guy doesn't win/live.

It was hard to get into this book. I didn't connect with the characters, it was too long to get to the point where you figured out what the story was. I don't like DNF, so I pushed through till the end.
It is 3 stars only because the last few chapters kept my attention
