With a mixture of real life sports information and fiction, The Hockey Rink Hunt follows the other Zach and Zoe Mysteries series written by author Mike Lupica. In this story, siblings Zach and Zoe are on the hunt for a hockey players lucky necklace that he lost before the final game of the Stanley Cup. Zach and Zoe go into their detective mode selves to help locate and return the lucky necklace before the final game, as to bring luck to the star player of the Bruins. This story includes suspense and mystery which takes the reader on a journey with the characters in whether they will find the necklace in time for the big game!
Mike Lupica is a best selling author of sports stories and through this series, he writes about all types of sports which is entertaining for all types of sports fans. Even if the reader is not a hockey fan, they can become more interested in the sports through how Lupica sets up the storyline suspense and mystery and pairs sporting events as the overall setting to the stories. This story provides the reader with cross curriculum literature and formula fiction by incorporating sports into stories, along with providing the reader with patterns throughout the series. By keeping to specific style of storytelling and themes, readers who like to read these stories become more comfortable with the author's style of writing and the reader's prediction skills also increase with each book read. The Hockey Rink Hunt is no different from this usual formula, but is still a quality chapter book read for students who enjoy mysteries, sports, or are fans of the Zach and Zoe Mysteries series already.

My son checked these books out from the public library and has really been enjoying them. This book was fun to read. I think it has great aspects because there is a mystery to be solved and it involves sports. How much more entertaining can that be for a young reader? Especially, if they are like my son who enjoys both. And what an exciting ending!

For all early chapter book readers who love action and behind the scenes sports information - especially hockey fans. This mystery series by Mike Lupica features girl & boy twins so I think it could appeal to any kid.
