Pykh #3

Human Omega: Babied by His Guardian Mates

Rate this book
Sometimes you've just got to flip your big dumb alien onto his stomach and teach him a thing about masculinity.
It’s not how much you’ve got — it’s how you use it.

Finally, everything is going good for Carter. He's not a slave. He has a roof over his head. He's fixed his alien language translator and now can talk to Pykh and Siel, his protectors.

Thankfully, they aren't promiscuous alien hillbillies. They're loyal men who love him, and Carter loves them back. Our space marine is ready to settle into a new life on the fleaf'akhie planet and be happy.

But now there's another problem. On this planet… he's the girl?

And not just any girl, but a pale, delicate, exotic princess who must be bowed to, courted, and entertained with poems.

What's a tough space marine to do, being treated like this?

Setting them straight would be easy, and Carter does come clean to his hopeful fathers to-be, but now a golden-armored general brings a carriage to take him away to safety. Carter must play along with the princess act, or he and his new family may be turned away at the gates.

I love this series so much. I can't believe it's been so long since I read it.

Originally read August 2019

Oh man...I want more of this world Eileen Glass has created. This was a long ass book and anyone who knows me, knows I steer clear of books over 300 pages but I couldn't help myself. I am in love with these guys.

This one was full of action and romance. I love how they all take great care of each other, meeting the other two's needs and being so loving and sweet to each other as they continue to grow and become stronger, not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well. Pykh, Carter and Siel are a tight loving unit who get a nice surprise when the dust settles. There's other relationships forming that I find interesting. I had an idea of what motivated the general but it was confirmed. Where I previously did not like Auk, I understood him more in this one and now I want him to have a HEA with his pykhs and general.

Another great addition to the series. Ugh...now I have to wait for book 4! Off to stalk follow the author...

The story went so much deeper this time. And I loved every minute of it.

Previously disliked characters are starting to redeem themselves in my eyes. It's a good thing that fleaf'akhie are generally a romantic species, what with all the purring. hehe :) So it's easy for me to like them, despite their actions.

Siel is totally becoming the selfless hero everyone (including me) wants him to be. He's a natural. I loved the little glimpses from his past. No flashbacks, just Siel remembering how different he was when he was young, how his priorities changed.
Pykh is still adapting to a world outside of his cage, but he's learning fast. He's adorable as hell. I liked seeing him interact with other fleaf'akhie: cheeky young ones and authority figures.

Carter is dealing with the aftermath of his captivity, it's finally catching up to him. Meanwhile he's planning his future among the fleaf'akhie, which involves some political maneuvering. But don't worry, it's nothing heavy.

I love the balance between the three of them. They're a perfect throuple. The story might be progressing slowly but it's just perfect for me. You can't rush these things. There's an exciting action scene in there, which I think is the best part of the book.

The editing is so much better than in the previous books, I'm seeing much improvement on that front.

I wondered if the author deliberately made the fleaf'akhie human-like in their mannerisms. They 'shrugged' and 'chuckled' just like humans do, but of course humans aren't purring or using their non-existent tail to express their feelings either. So it's a little bit of both. I didn't notice this before. Also, it's just an observation not a negative thing.

This is my fave in the series so far. Can't wait to see how Auk will deal with the new situation he's found himself in. He's trying to communicate better. And of course Carter's troubles aren't over. I wonder if the Omega Ov'ielk will have a bigger role, he was eyeing Pykh up like candy, but who didn't. Eh :) Considering  who his father is, I expect the two will clash at some point.

So yeah, I was totally entertained. 4.5 stars

Loved this entry in this excellent series

This series has been a surprise of the pleasant variety from the beginning and this book is the best one yet in terms of storytelling.

I will say there are annoying little errors in grammar and proofing, but I'm overlooking them because the narrative is that good.

This world has been beautifully designed and is full of complex ideas and concepts coupled with a lot of humour and, in this instalment, some kick ass action and a life changing development for Carter and his mates.

Hurry up book four as I can't wait to see the pups!

I was just as hooked, captivated and entertained by the third book in the series as I was the first 2!

Sadly, Glass also continues with Carter’s sexist thoughts and annoying gender stereotypes and expectations. And here’s the thing, there are no women on this planet and the fleaf’akhie people don’t even know or understand what women are, so these thoughts are all in Carter’s head and there’s no push back. Moreover, there is no reason for the sexist rhetoric in terms of character development, world building or storytelling. It is limited, but in a futuristic world where anything is possible, Glass makes a choice to go there for no reason whatsoever. Yeah, Carter is a cis male from earth so I suppose maybe the point is that even hundreds of years in the future, toxic masculinity is still a thing, but why? Gross. It just makes Carter less likable and as far as I’m concerned is an indicator that Glass doesn’t even realize that she’s promoting sexist stereotypes or cringey gender expectations.

I did love this story and series despite Carter’s ignorant sexist thoughts and if book 4 were already out, I’d definitely jump right into it.

4 stars but dang am I disappointed by the cringe *sigh*

I have loved this series so far and I almost didn't give it a chance because of the titles, but it's just so damn interesting. I absolutely adore the three MCs and love that they are so devoted to each other.

I was pleasantly surprised that the general was not the douche canoe that he seemed to be and he ended up being a pretty great leader.

The ending was only a little surprising but I am really excited for the next book. I usually don't read a series until it's been completely written, but I am glad I didn't wait.

Also, I listened to the audio and just love Joel Leslie's take on all the voices of the characters.

Now to wait patiently for the last book.

Joel Leslie does a great job with the narration and I loved the story, for a 600 page book it was quick and full of action!

I am bummed that there is no news about the 4th books release date but I am pumped for when it will come out!

I really love this series. It's probably my favorite M/M/M just because the three characters are so fleshed out and interesting, while also being deeply devoted to each other.

The good? If you like alien/human sci-fi romance series like Lyn Gala's Claimings series, then this is an easy rec. Glass' style is similar where she mixes some very interesting world-building while also including romance (and sexy times.)

The mutual devotion between Carter (the human) and the fleaf'akhie (cat) men Siel and Pykh is...addicting. They're all capable men with their own motivations and histories and are really into each other, which is just nice to read. The cultural differences between them (and even between Siel and Pykh, since Pykh had a different upbringing) are interesting and often funny as they work to sort them out and understand each other. As this is the third book in the series, the conflict is mostly external- the three men and their relationship are not at risk, but there are external risks towards them and their hope for a future together.

The bad? The author definitely needs a copy-editor to pick up errors. There's a bunch throughout. I turned on my "fanfic reading brain" which allows me to slide over them pretty easily. Because I was enjoying the story so much, I pretty much forgive small errors. I would rather have the book with typos than not have it all.

Even with the editing issues, which pushed me to read this with my "fanfic brain", I ADORED this series- I loved the character depth that is explored, the love and devotion that is shared between the main characters, the interesting (and dangerous) world that they live in, and the humor (and sexy times) that often lace their interactions.

Is there Mpreg? Well, the fleaf'akhie society is born out of male pregnancy so, that's the eventual endgame. I'm not a big mpreg reader, but I'll still read the next (and last) book as I just dig the characters and would love to revisit them.

Does this end well? Yes. For the nervous romance reader, this has a solid HFN ending, and could be left as HEA if you don't want to read the next/last section that will include mpreg.

Props to the author for creating such an addicting, thoughtful, and sexy series with wonderful and empathetic characters.

I've spent the past week rereading the first two books in the series to refresh my mind before diving into this one. And boy, I do love to spend time in this sci-fi world again! The writing really works for me. It's like I'm right there with them on this exotic and strange planet when I read. I love the storytelling, and adore the trio of very different personalities that somehow are just right for each other.

The previous books were shorter and more action packed compared to this third instalment. Carter, Siel and Pykh are at The Muds, a military outpost and finally able to communicate in the same language. They get some well deserved time to kick back and relax—and yup, lots of sexy times—getting to know each other all over again. But soon civilization knocks on their door, because Carter's existence as the first human on this alien planet is of interest to the local powers that be.

The storyline involves quite a bit of political strategies, perhaps a tad more than what I'd ideally like, but the battle scene in the second half provides a good adrenaline rush as a balance. Same thing with the chapters in the POV of Auk. I strongly disliked him in the previous book, and it took me almost to the end of this one to warm up to him. There at the end, I actually started to like the old grump and look forward to see him in the next and final instalment of the series. Along with Affek, Teal, Ov'ielk and the growing hoard of Fleaf'akhie warriors I've come to like and care about.

Another cliffhanger?! You're killing me, Glass!

SciFi/Fantasy, M/M/M menage, with multiple POV, some new characters, action, heat, and humor, with another tentative HFN ending. Book four is purportedly the final installment, and maybe the guys will finally get their hard fought for HEA.

Quite a few editing issues, but I love this series so much I pretty much just hand-waved them away. (Which, if you know me at all, says something about how good the story-telling is.)

Seriously cannot wait for the next installment...it can't get here soon enough.

UPDATE: So I've read book 4 now (Married to the Barbarian Prince). I really respect the author for finishing it and publishing. Truly, I do. But, I didn't love book 4. I didn't hate it, but I ended up skimming a lot and ultimately didn't really care about anything or anyone by the end of it.

It just felt too different. The things that made this series special in the first book and for most of the other two... those got lost somewhere. Book 4 was a bunch of very boring politics and mundane plot. And there were so many plot elements that were never followed up on. Battleship? What battleship?

The other major issue is the crazy amount of time skips. Actually, that can just be generalized to "disjointed scenes." One moment Carter is pregnant, the next moment baby pops out and fast forward to a year later. On one page Ov'eilk is trying to push forward his society, but on the next, he's... nowhere to be found? Basically not heard from again. The whole book is about boring baby shit or the neverending kill-me-the-fuck-now-please Pykh Daddy Issues™, but written like it's a summary of the actual story.

Look, book 4 isn't bad per se, it's just not entertaining. If this author publishes in this series or a spin-off, I'll read it simply because I respect her for finishing this book. But it will have to entertain me more like book 1 did, otherwise I'm probably done with it all.

Book 4 is a 2 star for me. That's being generous.

Original review:

This is a whole series review (through book 3).

Bah. This started out greated and continued to be great all the way up until 60-70% of book 3. Then shit got crazy, and not in a good way. I was super excited after book 1, but now after finishing book 3, I'm just kinda disappointed I guess?

This is a very enjoyable read, overall. Dialogue is funny, story has depth, and the writing is easy to comprehend.

The author is great at creating detailed scenes and weaving humor into various different characters and personalities. She's also pretty good at consistent worldbuilding. It's not a crazy deep world, but it's better than most.

The relationship between Pykh, Siel, and Carter is very well-developed. It's not instalove, and there's plenty of moments where you see the characters grow both individually and as a group.

The sex is pretty hot. Every scene is generally brief in my opinion, but hot. Knots ✅️

I have two main issues. First, the stuff with Auk, Affek, etc. started getting old in book 2, but it wasn't terrible. But in book 3, there's *SO* much of it. I skimmed several chapters, which I rarely do in any book. I just stopped caring about all of it. A lot of that needs to be cut, in my opinion. We should have gotten more from Carter instead. Some of it doesn't even make sense, like Auk speaking against Carter when Er'ad did his shit. Uh, that's out of left field. Auk pledged loyalty to Carter and has always taken it seriously, so why this? The pages should have been spent wrapping up bug story elements.

Second, and this is ⚠️ MAJOR SPOILER ALERT ⚠️, the end of book 3 is infuriating. Carter's been pregnant the whole time? But doesn't really know how it's possible? Nah, fuck that. We don't even get a good explanation for it. The story would have been so much better if he was just able to get the surgery on the ship, with a deeply intimate scene beforehand of Carter talking to Pykh and Siel about it all, and them being supportive of whatever Carter wanted for himself. What was written feels very half-assed. More like quarter-assed. It doesn't follow the quality of the previous books and chapters AT ALL. I love this author and series. Until you get to that ending. 🙄

I'll read book 4 when it comes out, at least give it a try. I hope the shit I hated about book 3 isn't a problem in 4 too.

Book 1 (Discovered on the Slave Planet): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book 2 (Trapped in the Alien Jungle): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book 3 (Babied by his Guardian Mates): ⭐️⭐️

The best thing I have ever read

No joking. This book literally changed my life. O k probably not, but it was an amazing experience. It was such a complex and simple adventure.

People do not give up!! There are literally diamonds in the dirt that may be the best book you ever read. You just have to search for it.

I love these guys with all my heart. It's like having my brothers but better, and I wish the story doesn't end, but i'm happy if it does.

This one dragged a bit in places what with the travelling and Carter being miserable but the battle scene was amazing and the end was exciting! I’m definitely a fan of MPREG so I’m going to read book 4 but I love that you could stop here and be totally satisfied if that’s not your jam. 👍🏻

I am just loving this series. The story of Carter and his 2 "space cat" mates is just delightful. I listened to the first 2 books on audio, with the brilliant Joel Leslie narrating. I saw that this one had come out, and I just couldn't wait for audio, I had to read it. I really tried for a few weeks to hold off till the audiobook is published, but my mind kept coming back and revisiting the story and I couldn't wait. And oh my, this is another great addition to this series. I have enjoyed the world building and learning more about the history of Pykh and Siel's race. And I love that the guys just keep building on the foundation of their menage relationship making it stronger and stronger with NO internal conflict. I love a book where all the problems and dangers are external and the MC's work together to make things right. yes!!! I have to say, I wish there wasn't quite as much pov from Auk, but as the story evolved, I can see where his pov was helpful. 5 stars for this creative, different, unconventional sci-fi tale. Now the wait is on for book 3 audio and book 4 continuation. This Sci-Fi m/m menage adventure just keeps getting better. Carters adventures on the Fleaf'akhie home planet continue to be exciting and fun.
******Edited for additional comments after listening to the audiobook.
Surprisingly I enjoy the rotating POV, getting a peek into their thoughts and reflections. Carter is smart, funny and truly deeply in love with his "guys". Pykh is sweet, smart and oh so innocently earnest. Siel is noble, brave and humbly grateful for lifes second chances. Even hearing Auk's pov turned out interesting. I was not an Auk fan in books 1&2, but after hearing from him in first person, understanding his actions and motivations puts him in the good guy column.
I love the continued world building, learning more about Fleaf'ahkie history, and culture. Meeting another omega. Those alien bugs remain scary, puzzling and downright gross.
The battle scene!! Well written, tense, and vivid. It will be exciting to see how all the fleaf'ahkie react to fancy space ship technology.
The final chapters, Carters astounding news, just icing on the book cake.
I am very impatient for book four.
OF COURSE, this book is made more amazing by the excellent excellent narrating by Joel Leslie.
October 25, 2023 . Another reread and can I just say I’m so sad that it’s now been four years and no sign of book four. This is such a delightful series.

In some ways this book is better than the previous ones, in others it is worse. It's hard to give a correct rating.

Better, because we get to know the world, the people, some of their history and society. There is also more action, a real fight scene at the end that is awesome despite the author's confession that this was her first one.

But for a really long time in the middle the whole thing degrades into cheesy porn. It's kind of repetitive and boring. Yeah, they have sex, but it doesn't give anything to the story to read about all the times they do it.

Phyk's POV is great. Everything is as new to him as it is for Carter but he has a child like innocence and it is pictured perfectly. I also loved how Siel came out of his shell and became the great warrior he has been before his capture.

Auk's character was the worst for me. He is a coward and undecisive and maybe he should be looked at as an old and frail one, but for me he just came across spineless and whiney.

I also don't like Carter saying that he is manly and not a girl and that's why he is capable. I really hoped that we are over these kind of stereotypes. It's especially wrong coming from a woman. And despite Carter saying these things especially in the middle of the book he behaves like a child or a damsel in distress. I can forgive this to him, because usually I like him and most of the time he is a badass.

Slowburn war novel with a romance built in

I’m really enjoying this series, and I’m sad that I’ll have to wait for more! I’ve really liked how thoughtful this author is in crafting the different characters- they are all unique, and make the different bonds that spring up between them seem real and natural.

One thing to note is that this novel is definitely not a classic princess tale. Carter continues to struggle with being perceived as an omega, and all the different responsibilities that entails. And there is a war happening, which the author never lets you forget about. Don’t sit down with this book expecting a quick afternoon- this is lengthy, and moves slowly. There is a lot of struggle in this book. But the plot twist at the end was especially welcome. I’ll be waiting for the next one!

This was a long book but very well paced. We got a lot of sexy time as well as a good battle scene. I loved seeing this trio advance.

The world building is great and I appreciated having Auk’s point of view. I can totally picture Pykh, Siel and the rest.

There is enough sci-fi details to keep it in that genre and I can’t wait to read the final book in the series!

"Babied by His Guardian Mates" by Ellen Glass is a unique addition to the romance genre, exploring the world of omegaverse romance with a twist. While it offers a fresh take on the genre, it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

The story revolves around a trio of protagonists, Alpha Jackson, Omega Nate, and Omega Leo, who find themselves in an unconventional relationship as they navigate the complexities of love and family-building. Glass does a commendable job in developing the dynamics and emotions between these characters. The bond that forms among them is both heartwarming and unconventional, pushing the boundaries of traditional romance.

The omegaverse concept adds an intriguing layer to the story, with its own set of rules and dynamics. It's clear that the author has put thought into world-building, creating a setting where alphas, betas, and omegas coexist. However, this might be a bit confusing for readers unfamiliar with the omegaverse subgenre.

The romance in the book is undeniably passionate, and the chemistry between the characters is palpable. Glass doesn't shy away from exploring the physical and emotional aspects of their relationships, which will satisfy fans of steamy romance.

One drawback is that the story can feel somewhat rushed, particularly in the development of the main relationship. The pacing occasionally leaves the reader wanting more depth and exploration of the characters' feelings and histories.

Additionally, "Babied by His Guardian Mates " contains explicit content that might not be suitable for all readers, so it's important to be aware of this aspect before diving in.

In conclusion, "Babied by His Guardian Mates" offers a bold take on romance within the omegaverse, with a unique trio of protagonists and a passionate love story. While it explores fresh territory, it may not be for everyone due to its explicit content and complex world-building. If you're open to unconventional romance and enjoy the omegaverse subgenre, this book might be worth a read, but it's not without its challenges. really enjoying this series. I'm loving to watch the growth and all the characters. However this one was not my favorite book. It felt a lot longer than it needed to be. Don't get me wrong it was still a great story. The world building in the storyline are once again amazing as always.

Eileen Glass just delivered one of the best sci-fi war sequences I've ever read, and nobody, like NOBODY, reads a fluffy, erotic furry alien novel expecting an emotional, epic battle scene worthy of Nolan's "Dunkirk", but Eileen did that. She really did that. And on top of that, she kept on fleshing out these books' universe, deepening the mythology in a way where you're like, "Shit. This is great sci-fi. I was just reading about cute fluffy dicks in book one. How did I get here?".

The side characters in this entry are layered and fascinating, especially Auk and Iethuth. Their relationship is worthy of a hundred thousand fanfics, and their dynamic is great. But the mains are really the coolest characters here. Pykh's character arc continues in a very satisfying way. His growth as a character feels real, which made the character a lot more real for me. Siel, the universe's ultimate alien Daddy and perhaps this book's most tortured main, also continues to be this series' grounding force, and in this book, his character evolves from a protector willing to make painful compromises to a loving guardian, to a full-on "these two idiots are my family and I want to keep my family". And then, Carter. Aside from being the luckiest stranded human in an alien planet (like, Jesus, you got a hunk and a daddy and everybody else wants to lick you and/or worships you like Jesus), he's also matured real good. He's starting to think like wise leader while being really empathic. He acknowledges his fragilities and accepts them, then tries to overcome them. He's still stubborn inside, but now he considers the implications of his stubborness before he acts all stubborn. He's courageous, but knows how to pull back, and he doesn't give up even if he's in disadvantage if he knows he's right. He's fucking awesome. He's badass. And I want to be like Carter. Although, yeah, I'm not sure about me having alien lovers but... I mean... yeah, this series gave me some confusion regarding my feelings about furry alien humanoids. I'll need to talk to my shrink about that.

Also, that bomb this book dropped near the end about anatomy, was... it was something. I felt elation and joy while being like "Whut?". I mean, look at this book. Look at what it's doing. It's wild.

But yeah! Great series. I admit, it's probably not for everyone. This book kinda had lull moments, too, in the middle, but they're not THAT boring. This entry's also more mature, more intelligent, braver when it comes to a lot of topics, darker (although this series always had dark undertones, this entry did not shy away from PTSD and the emotional impact of war to soldiers), and more emotional than the first two (the battle sequence works awesomely because it zeroes in on the character's emotions themselves rather than the big kabooms). Yes, it's less "fun" (still fun, just less), but it's still better, I think, than the last two books. Imma give this an 8. Not sure if it's closer to a 9 or a 7 or just a solid 8, but it feels right to say 8, so yeah, 8. Will probably change this rating once I get some distance from this book and actually think about the stuff that happened in it, or maybe I won't change the rating, but if I do, this will definitely not drop anywhere past 7. I do recommend this book and the series it belongs to. Read it if you can. And I'm really excited for the next and final book to this series. (It'll be first mpreg book!) :)

(Unrelated to the novel: I was reading while listening to Daft Punk's "Tron: Legacy" soundtrack. Really enhanced the experience.)

Action, adventure, and hot alien sex

Generally, I hate any kind of alpha/omega books, ESPECIALLY mpreg. And the titles of these books are just...ugh... almost like a joke, in a way. I can't even remember why I picked up the first one, but I was pleasantly surprised by what I found inside. The premise and title hide the hefty story waiting inside. The bad guys are creepy, the bad things they do are just gut wrenchingly awful. The sex is hot, the action is fierce, the world building is magnificent. And the character cast is so diverse, each character so fully executed that I can picture them easily and feel like I know them. The battle scenes in this book had me on the edge of my seat, even though I knew that, of course the good guys would win. There's still plenty of sex in this installment, but there's more emphasis overall on politics and where Carter, Siel, and Pykh fit in all of it.

Last, but not least, even though I HATE mpreg, Carter has got to be the least omega-like omega in Omegaverse history! And I was SO HAPPY with the his fulfilled wish in the end, which I won't give away because "spoilers, sweetie!"

4.5 stars. I've been chasing the high I got from Lyn Gala's books since I picked up Earth Fathers are Weird (or the Claimings series), and while the first two books were more like 3.5 stars, this book really delivered!!!

It was everything I wanted: linguistic, communication and cultural challenges, with a touch of 'how can I begin to explain this technology to you', and some seriously hot alien smut.

I recognize these aren't qualities that everyone is looking for in a book. But I love language, fictional alien cultures and weird misunderstandings in sexual and amorous relationships.

This didn't beat out the Lyn Gala books in terms of linguistic interest, and they didn't out perform the level of visceral smut from Kora Knight's sci fi series, but I love this series anyway, it's the closest things I will probably ever find to either of these authors, so I'll take it!

This is another series I listened to.

This would have easily been a 5 star book if it weren’t for the misogynistic language used by Carter throughout. P*ssy, sissy, fruity, princess, girly… all things he said he didn’t want to be thought of as because he’s an omega. He could have easily felt that way WITHOUT that kind of language. Every time he used it I wanted to scream at the author… because this is series is REALLY good. Particularly this book. The characters and the world building are epic. But again, I don’t think I would have read this the same way I listened to it. Joel really upped his game for the narration of this and made every minute of this 16 hour listen worth it.

Still loving Carter, Siel and Pykh. Even Auk and Iethuth are growing on me and Affeck is super sweet.
We finally get to meet another omega, though it's not the one we are expecting. Lot's of politics and we start to understand the Fleaf'alkhie people as a society.

Great battle scene, I could picture it in my head like an action movie. Damn those bugs are just horrible.

Carter gets a big surprise when

I need book 4 right now!!!

Yelp it was on sale. Yelp I did an all nighter to read it. Yelp I need more. Good thing there is book one and two. Maybe by Monday there will be a notice for book 4. Beggars can't be choosy but I sure can beg ! #IAWThoughts
