The men whose stories appear in this book made up a network of pastors. Through personal contact, or influence, or by reading each other's books, they were bound together in a spiritual brotherhood. They shared a common burden to see God glorified, his Son magnified, and his Spirit honoured by wholesome and practical biblical preaching, wise pastoral counselling, church and family strengthening, and faithful Christian living. Haste and Parker introduce us to these men, their theology, and the lessons we can learn from them.
I’m growing to really appreciate the Puritans and their faithfulness to Scripture in difficult times. Yes, their times were much different and far more primitive but the biblical principles they exemplified shine on. Highly recommended book.
Healthy blend of church history and pastoral theology. The brief monographs of select Puritans is helpful exposure to some known and unknown players. Applications were evident, concise, and thoughtfully applied.
Super helpful and concise look at the pastoral theology & ministry of the puritans! A historical & theological grounding in ministry in vital for the care of souls. The puritans were meticulous in their practice and theology for such and this book was a solid overview
