Twenty years before Serpint brought Queen Corla home to Harem Station she met Crux for the very first time. They were destined to be soul mates but could never be together.
All they had was just one night.
This is the story of Crux and Corla and how all the outlaw brothers came to reside on Harem Station. Meant to be read after Booty Hunter and before Big Dicker, it contains a star-crossed love story and secrets that are as deep and dark as space itself.
I liked this as much as the first book, but big cliffhanger. This was a short read and a prequel, though it is book 1.5, not 0.5. I wanted to start the next right away but it hadn’t come out yet. All the characters are good, there seems to be a villain or maybe more than one. Some secrets, and people from the past showing up..
This book answers a lot of the questions about when the guys first came to the station and about ALCOR the AI that was running the station before they got there. Also about Crux and his early relationship with Cormia. I can’t wait to to read the next book.
Novellas and I don't usually get along and sadly this was the case here. Plus, there were the added time jumps every chapter and my enjoyment level decreased even more.
While I loved getting to know Crux and his brothers a bit more, much of their stories were spoken of in Booty Hunter. So, this ended up feeling like a more-explained recap of stories told.
I hate to say that you can skip this book in the series and not feel like you've missed anything, but that's how I felt. Although, I do have to say that there is some key information given in the very last chapter of the book that I can see being useful information going forward.
All that being said, this hasn't diminished my excitement for the next book in this series at all.
Oh, this book makes everything that much clearer. It also should be read after BOOTY HUNTER just to be clear because it will spoil things for you if you read it before.
I enjoyed Crux and Queen Corla in this we really get to see how and why he is so hung up on her this explains it. This book also jumps from the past to the present and it sets us up for what is to come in Big Dicker. I am engrossed and can’t wait.
I KNEW IT... I FREAKING KNEW IT... I can't say what I knew just that I FREAKING KNEW IT! *Evil Laugh*
This world is interesting and intriguing and I seriously can’t wait for the audiobooks so I can share it will my group of friends who only do audiobooks.
I really thought Crux have his happily ever after. Not what I’ve expected but dang Corla is hardcore on not meeting him. I can’t wait to see how they end up together
After reading Booty hunter I needed to know more, so I started this one right away and dang, it blew my mind with the secrets and all the info I got. This is the story of how Corla and Crux met, why they met and how that lead the guys to Harem Station. I can't wait for Big Dicker.. I am soooooo excited!
Merged review:
So many things to get excited about!!!! Want more!

This prologue is meant to be read after Book 1. So when you have a lot of questions after Booty Hunter, be sure to read this one. It answers how Crux and Corla met, at the same time how they found ALCOR and how the Harem Station began. If you’ve had weird feelings about ALCOR’s true intentions, this book hints toward a lot and definitely sets up what will be upcoming in the series and I can’t wait to discover more. I look forward to more of Crux and Corla. Seems their relationship is pretty central to the series.
Per the author this is to *follow* Booty Hunter and precede Big Dicker. I followed instructions and can’t wait for that next story in this fascinating and detailed story of space, survival, secret powers, princesses and much more. Great characters and a storyline which will amaze you.
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
KC Cross, knocked it out of the park with this novella. I listened on audio and Christian Fox did an amazing job. Can't wait for the next in the series What is Alcore up to?!?!?
I wasn't going to grab this but it was a freebie on audible and I'm so glad I did. Another really entertaining installment in this series and one that does answer a lot of questions and sets you up for the next books knowing that there is actually a deeper mystery of foot.
Not as smutty as the first but still a couple scenes to keep you entertained. And also laughing.
I don't know what it's like to read these as books but the narration in this and the previous episode are so entertaining. Like spend all your credits on audible that you've been hoarding, entertaining
I never thought this was a genre I would enjoy, but maybe it's all about the entertaining writing and the way that it's read.
It was a one shot listen and I'm excited to move on to the next book!
Cliff hanger. This is a cliff hanger and I looked at the other audiobooks in the series and don’t see Christian Fox narrating them so I am assuming Crux doesn’t get his own book. Part of his story was relayed in the first book so I’m thinking the rest of his story must happen during a different brothers story. I would prefer he have his own w/ Christian Fox narrating as this is now how I picture him. I’m disappointed to have such a short novella that end in a cliff hanger. I did like the story a lot and considering buying the next one. I am not sure because I dislike how parts of this were still confusing as was the first book. This one has a lot more of a serious feel than the first book but still very interesting.

This was a nice side story that shows how the boys arrived at Alcore Station, later renamed Harem Station and switches between this and Crux meeting Corla.
The audio version was amazing in terms of narration but there was ZERO development of Crux and Corla as a couple which was what this was packaged as being about so for that I give the story 3 stars.
So what is this story instead? Take it as Crux telling a bedtime story about his "brothers" and how everyone came to be on Harem Station as well as how they got their role they were assigned told from a middle-end/beginning-middle of story alternating chapter format.
Although Star Crossed is a prequel to Booty Hunter, I’m so glad I read it after because the answers to my questions of how things started in Booty Hunter hit me harder than if I knew them going in. Make sense? Only in a JAH/KCC book, lol! As a die hard fan of this author I live for the unexpected punch in the gut ending and that’s just what I received. The last sentence. It is a jaw dropper.
Star Crossed probably poses as many questions as it answers. But isn’t that what Julie is famous, or infamous, for in her JA Huss books. So my mind is blown. At least we know more background on the “boys” and ALCOR. Now I move forward and start putting pieces together with the next book. Hoorah!
This author always has a twist. Always. I really should have known that this wasn't going to be cheesy in any way. I'm not sure this author knows how to not write twists and secrets. Even in a a series that started with sarcasm, puns, and humor galore.
I should have known. Well played. If I wasn't hooked before I sure am now.
This book fills in a lot of the backstory that wasn’t in Booty Hunter, it centres around Crux & Corla - they were the catalyst for why everything changed 20 years ago.
The underlying story is completely captivating, there are so many questions & I anticipate many twists to come & then there is ALCOR, just what is this crazy & insane AI up too!!
You must read the stories in order as I found out. I read this one without reading any of the other books 📚 and it has confused me slightly. Even though it was interesting and intriguing, I still became slightly confused. So please read the series in order.
Wtf?! This novella explains so much and then it ends and your heart drops and you need all the new questions answered like right now because there are so many! I love that this book gives all that information that we were missing in the first and just like the first one it is so surprisingly well written. Absolutely loved it.
Did I find the first book in this series to be hilaribad? Yes. Did that stop me from listening to this prequel novella? No. The absolute earnestness of the narrator made this so, so much funnier than it would’ve been if I’d just read it. I was absolutely cracking up at the delivery of some of the bonkers nonsense. And it definitely was bonkers nonsense. Why do I do this to myself?
The short story of Crux and Corla (#1.5) perfectly placed after reading Booty Hunter (#1 in series). I feel the star crossed experience of the couple and their short time together has a profound effect on Crux. Ready to read the next one! (Doing audio versions of the series and the narration is done extremely well so far)
This is the short story of how Harem Station started and tells you Cory and Crux's first and only meeting. I'm already in love with the characters and in true JA Huss form, there are a lot of plot twists. I'm excited to see where it goes from here!
So many questions answered but now I have a ton of new ones! I loved getting some of the backstory and little glimmers of the current predicament they face. This new world is proving to be quite addictive.
This was a good look into what got everything started for Crux and his "brothers". Just the beginning of the adventure and all the crazy that's to come. Made Crux seem a bit more "human" or approachable. Will be interested to see what happens if his princess ever comes off the ice.
This is a great fill in for the back story of the beginning of the Harem Station. It's short, well written and can answer some questions you may have. I look forward to the continuing story line.
Young adult book w/o much substance. I’m sure I would like it more if I had more of the storyline but am not good enough to spend anymore on. Authors who write these serial style book need to consider if we’ve gotten enough for our $ to entire us to spend again,
