Alex Green is the author of a successful book series whose hero, Logan, is every woman’s dream. Ellie Adams is a romantic comedy author who has won the heart of her readers with her witty and funny heroines. When they both find themselves at an impasse, unable to meet their deadlines, Meg, their editor, comes up with an original combine their strengths and dream up the romantic, adventurous couple all readers are bound to fall in love with.
Only Alex and Ellie aren’t exactly fond of each other. She thinks Logan is a heartless hero; he finds her heroines unrealistic. Moreover, he riles her by teasing her about her inability to write an interesting love scene. If they don’t want to lose their readership though, they’ll have to put aside their differences, trust each other, and write their next book together.
EXCERPT
“Ellie Adams, the author of my heart,” I hear a familiar voice and meet Alex’s gaze. He’s casually leaning against the counter, helping himself to a glass of iced tea, as though he belongs here. I miss my step and stumble, but thankfully regain my balance before making a fool of myself. He’s the last person I expected to see and, honestly, I could have done without this surprise. “Alex Green, the author so full of himself, he thinks he can be rude just because he has a beautiful smile. I could say I’m happy to see you again, but I’d be lying. I imagine you won’t be staying long. I’m sure you have other engagements.” He laughs softly, and my heart skips a beat. Darn! “Charming as always! Thank you for noticing that I have a nice smile, though. Coming from you, it’s more than I would have dared hope for.” “Flattery won’t get you anywhere,” I retort with a tight smile. My sister enters and stares at him with wide eyes. She takes a step toward him, her hand outstretched. “Alex Green. I love your books!” she exclaims. “It’s been a long time since I asked Meg to introduce us—I can’t believe I’m finally meeting you.” “Thank you.” He holds out his hand to shake hers. I tap my foot, getting miffed with my sister for making him feel important. Meg, who’s coming in at this moment, gives everyone a hug while she introduces us. “I would have never guessed it,” he says after hearing that Sophie and I are sisters. “What exactly does that mean?” My sister gives me an intrigued look, surprised by my cold tone. “Sophie seems to have all the qualities that you’re missing, such as being polite and admiring me.” He has the audacity to wink at me like I’m supposed to share his sense of humor. Sophie laughs heartily, but there’s no way I’ll let him get the upper hand. “That’s because Sophie didn’t see you acting like an expert in romantic comedies while trying to demolish my work.” I’m exaggerating, I know, but so what? I won’t let him manipulate everyone around me. He raises an eyebrow at me. “I bet Sophie would have no trouble in challenging herself.” “Excuse me, challenging myself? It’s not because you didn’t like a scene I wrote that I’m going to start questioning myself. Following the advice of a man who writes heartless characters isn’t my priority.” He crosses his arms and leans more comfortably against the counter. “Heartless?” he repeats in a mocking tone. “Tell me what’s bothering you. Women sing the praises of Logan. They think he embodies the perfect man.” I huff. “Oh, please. Get down from your pedestal. He’s a walking cliché, and none of my heroines would ever want him in their lives.”
Alex and Ellie are nicely thought and and fully realized in this humorous prequel... I can't wait to see what happens next in the books. I read quite a lot, and m interests are rather varied, so it is rare that a series would eclipse all the others in my mind, but this book had me taking to Amazon to see what else I could find by Andie. Ellie as a heroine reminds me of an early version of Anna Pigeon (Nevada Barr); as a matter of fact, I have to say that was the last time I was so captivated by a mystery series - I love the idea of he different locales for the stories, and I can't wait to see where this series takes its readers...
Written in Tandem is a prequel to a new series Murder We Wrote. This prequel is well written and a fun read. Ellie and Alex are both writers. Neither is a fan of the other person of their writing. However, their editor thinks they need to write together to create the perfect romantic couple. Our main characters decide to write their first book in Italy. This prequel makes me eager to read the longer books when they arrive.
This was a cute prequel of two successful authors who got stuck writing. Alex Green, an adventure writer & Ellie Adams, a Romantic Comedy writer. Neither one liked each other & argued even upon their first meeting. They both had the same editor who suggested writing together, hence the title of the prequel. Good introduction to Ms. Madison’s next book, Written in Style. Loved this book & looking forward to continuing this series.
Alex is a successful adventure author and Ellie writes romantic comedies. On their first encounter they are much like oil and water but this book is the precursor to a new series where these two collaborate to write romantic adventure. I like the characters and their interaction should make for an interesting series.
This book was ridiculously, fantastically fun. The characters reminded me of Spencer Tracy/Katharine Hepburn movies, or Cary Grant/Audrey Hepburn. They played off each other's quirks and foibles so well, I can hardly wait for more. Andie Madison has created some very memorable characters.
Received a free copy from book funnel. Great start for a new series. Entertaining and interesting story line and characters. Enjoyed every minute of it.
Prequel for a romantic adventure series, Written in Tandemgives a sense of fun. Unfortunately, I wanted to know more about our two leads. Am I expecting too much from 75 pages?
