My version published in 2006. Nice section in the front with a lot of good information on choosing and caring for a dog. Big book with great glossy pictures showing two or three very nice pictures of the breed and a paragraph of details of the dog. Box of info with size, (height/weight), grooming (simple, medium), exercise and Temperament.
Doesn’t seem to have as many breeds as other books, not so much history but more on the trait or temperament of the dog, so overall I think a very pretty book to sit on your coffee table or a reference for the breeds it covers.
Before getting a dog, I read many books to understand their needs and behavior. It's essential to establish a strong bond through positive reinforcement training methods. Additionally, knowing about pet medication without prescription is necessary for emergencies. As responsible pet owners, we must focus on their health and well-being. Through consistent training, proper care, and love, we can create a happy and harmonious relationship with loved pets.
First book of 2020. I love the Horse version of this that my mom owns. A good book but needs a lot more depth in the history of dogs, types of coats the different breeds have, their temperament (the way it is written in the book isn’t any good), and more on their ancestry. One thing I loved was how in depth it was on whether owning a dog was the right thing for you. Great information, just needs a better layout and a more comprehensive look at the dog breeds and types.
Although this book was published nearly 22 years ago, many of the care techniques remain relevant. Of course, your veterinarian should always be your top resource. This book was published in England, so expect dry wit and terminology sprinkled throughout the book. This book provides interesting facts about a variety of dogs, and even spotlights lesser-known breeds. This is a great resource for the novice and experienced alike.
Being from the tail-end of the nineties, this book is dated some with their advice and misinformation, but for the most part, holds up, I recommend a more recent book though.
I have had this fantastic book since my childhood and I have flipped through it over the years and have learnt a lot about dogs since then. It's got some decent sections on dog breeds including individual temperaments and activity levels with expert advice on training and grooming. Great book if you want something that covers many areas of dog ownership and isn't just breed specific.
Title: The Ultimate Encyclopaedia of Dogs, Dog Breeds & Dog Care Series: - Author: Peter Larkin & Mike Stockman Genre: Informational / Animals Rating: 4 stars
This is a very useful and educational text about dogs. Not only does it describe the characteristics of multiple breeds in detail, but also describes breeding and training methods.
This book would be, and is very influential for those deciding on a breed of dog suitable for their family, and/or for first time dog owners to aide them in the training of their new puppy.
A detailed text that I found very interesting and enlightening being a dog lover myself.
Target Audience- dog lovers. Anyone doing research on dogs. Genre- Nonfiction. Informational. Connections- Students might experience getting a new dog, or their dog at home has puppies. I have used similar books to do research on topics that interest me. The twin text I chose to pair this with is Clifford the Big Red Dog; Clifford's Family by Norman Bridwell (2011). I chose this book because Clifford isn't a typical dog and it could be fun for younger students to relate those two. The genre is children's fiction, and the audience could be K-2 or 3. Clifford's Family
I used to check this book out of my elementary school library all the time, because I loved to look at all the different breeds of dogs and learn about them. I feel that I know several breeds of dogs because of this book. I think this would be a great book to use in a lower-level elementary classroom to talk about the differences between animals of the same species. I think it would be a good way to compare and contrast the differences between animals and to learn more about the dog species, as well as ways to take care of dogs.
I want to be a vetranarian, so I am always reading dog encyclopedias. This was a very good book for someone who wants to be a breed wiz. It was very well explained and good for a first time dog owner. Or, for those of us who just want to learn more about dogs,- I recommend it. You won't get lost in this book. It's very explanitory.
This is a good introduction to dogs for a prospective owner. I also found the chapters regarding dog breeding informative. The second half of the book is dedicated to brief descriptions of each dog breed and their pros and cons. This section organizes the dogs by type such as gun dogs, toy dogs, terriers, etc.
Best. Dog. Book. Ever. You will find almost every breed of dog in this book with a very helpful writeup of their personalities, eating habits, exercise needs and more. This book helped us to pick out our beloved Cesky Terrier. A must-read for anyone considering adopting a pooch of their own.
This book contains a lot of good basic information for dog owners. Everyone who owns dogs should have a book like this. Or anyone wanting a dog should have a look at this book to see what owning a dog entails. There is also a good description of the personality of each breed.
I absolutely love dogs and have been a dog lover for as long as I can remember. This is one of THE BEST dog breed encyclopedias I've come across and I've been reading/learning about dogs for over 15 years. I highly recommend this one! It's worth the price.
This book is amazing! The pictures are so good, and the facts are so precise! This book gives so much information on each and every breed of dog, plus health care, herbal remedies, and bandaging and bathing techniques!
When I grow up I want to be a vetrinarian and I love dogs. My friend bought me this when I turned 6 and now I'm 10. I have practically memorized it! I recomend this to any animal lovers!
An excellent introduction to dog breeds and the basics of keeping a dog. Some of the information is possibly a little dated but overall it's a great general guide.
