She would be his perfect revenge...

All of the young ladies whispered about the Duke of Mondvale in hushed tones, their eyes following his tall, dark figure with barely disguised lust. For the newly-ostracized Lady Constance Thornton, he is magnetic and altogether desirable. Irresistibly so. Since her reputation is already ruined in London society, why shouldn't she be impudent and dance with the scandalous "Lord of Sin"?

Little does she know of his plans.

The beautiful and innocent Lady Constance is no mere plaything for Lucan Wynwood. She will be his revenge. By ruining her, he will have his vengeance against her brother. Except that the Lady Constance is full of surprises... and now she could well be the ruin of him.

I am an unapologetic romance lover. I read it. I write it. Enough said. Well..I also have a warrior way "Never give up on my dreams." I spend a copious amount of time drooling over Rick Grimes from Walking Dead, watching Japanese anime and playing video games with my love, Dusean.

(A digital copy generously provided by the author Stacy Reid in exchange for an honest review) Thank you so much, Ms. Stacy!

I love historical romance! And this book totally sealed the deal for me. It was soo good! Once again, I was reminded of my college days when I was so attached with the Dukes, Earls, Lords, and other historical romance characters. So nostalgic!

Anyways, this book is the third installment of the companion series Scandalous House of Calydon. I have been following this series since the books were released and I could say that once again, Stacy Reid did not disappoint me.

The story centers on the beautiful character Constance or "Connie", the younger sister of Sebastian and Anthony who were featured in the previous books. She fell instantly in love with the "Lord of Sins" Lucan Devlin Wynwood (Duke of Mondvale) the moment she first laid her eyes on him in a certain midnight ball. One night was all it took for her to realize that Lucan was her ideal man-- the man she wanted to marry. But then, Lucan had raging feelings for his family, for Sebastian, in particular, that's why in order to plot a revenge, he invited her to go out with him, make her fall in love, and basically leave her alone afterwards.

The book was somewhat a heavy and emotional kind of story. While Lucan was determined to avenge his sister by hurting Constance, he found himself slowly developing feelings for her. And this just made the story even more conflicting as well as romantic.

Now what I love about this book is the great chemistry between Lucan and Constance. They were like ice and fire and yet they totally click. I also love their character development. The author's writing style, on the other hand, is also impressive. I like the way she used terms that basically make me feel as though I'm in the 1880s in London or something.

All in all, the book is superb! If you are a fan of historical romance like me, this one is for you!

There's revenge, and there's revenge. This story was revenge, the kind that you know will only bring immense heartache and possible irreparable damage. The kind that many would label as unforgivable.

That was me. Even though I knew what Lucan was doing, even though I could see what was coming, my heart broke and I hated him. I hated his need for vengeance by using an innocent. I hated him for making himself approachable and loveable to a woman whose only crime was being related to the man Lucan believed wronged his own sister.

I didn't want Constance to forgive him, didn't want her to still love him after what he'd done. But she did. It might be fiction, but maybe her actions speak more of her character than mine do of me. Forgiveness is not something I give easily. Yes, I carry grudges. Yes, I cut people out of my life who bring nothing but grief and strife. So perhaps I can learn something from her.

Maybe.

It was hard to admire a man who took it upon himself to ruin a lovely woman like Constance. The whispers he started about her parentage and his single-minded goal of destroying Constance's brother by ruining her were... *sigh* It was difficult to wrap my brain around. Really, it was.

Through all of Lucan and Constance's dealings, through all the ups and downs they faced, they discovered that love--the kind that many dream of, crave, need, want, desire, look for, hope for--provided them the strength to do what I don't think they would have been able to do otherwise. For Lucan, it was asking Constance for forgiveness. It was realizing how damaged his sister was and that, despite his desire to believe only the good in her, he didn't know her as well as he thought. For Constance, it was forgiving him. She didn't have to. She could have stayed away, traveling with her brother and sister-in-law. But she didn't because she couldn't. *smiles*

To say that love is amazing would be an understatement. In its purest form, it is unconditional and selfless. Established in the hearts of the right people, it becomes more than a emotion. It becomes action. It has the power to bring the proudest person to their knees; to forgive what others believe you can't; to mend a brokenness that many thought couldn't be fixed; to see a future when others doubt there is even a present. Lucan and Constance's relationship began on the worst note imaginable, yet it ended on the highest note possible.

A gripping, emotional tale of two people who, I felt, shouldn't have ever fallen in love but did. For listening to their hearts, they experienced a love so grand it defied logic and redefined what it means to love.

4.5*

It was shorter than most audiobooks so I was able to finish it within two days.

Lady Constance went from the "diamond of the first water" to the "beautiful bastard" after it was revealed (most likely in one of the previous books in this series) that she and her second older brother Anthony are bastards. Their father was their mother's lover when she was married to the Duke of Calydon, whom she married upon the duke's death. I haven't read the previous books but I will definitely read them now just to get a little more detail on how this secret was revealed as well as read about Lucan's sister and the events that lead to Lucan using Constance for revenge against her eldest brother, Sebastian.

I like Lucan's first encounter with Constance. Pretty much any time the hero and heroine are alone, I find it romantic. Yes, we have a very bold and forward heroine for her time. Since I haven't read the other books, I can only hypothesize that she is not behaving like a proper young lady, because the ton has shunned her, and she just wanted to enjoy this moment being with someone who wouldn't judge her for illegitimacy. Constance and Lucan begin to spend time together in public like he's courting her (carriage rides, attending the theater, etc.), but he never asked her real father for permission to court her (part of his revenge plan, I reckon). When her mother voiced her disapproval of Constance's association with Lucan (because he's scandalous and wicked), I was shocked that Constance talked back to her mother, calling her a hypocrite and demanding to know why she cheated on her first husband.

I enjoy reading a revenge story because of the angst and the groveling the hero sometimes has to do to earn the heroine's forgiveness. The book is shorter than most, so the pacing was a little fast sometimes. Lucan eventually stopped using Constance in his revenge and pushed her away. He has three friends/partners of the gaming hall they all own, who help him with his revenge. I hope they get their own books because I would like to read about Charlotte (Constance's companion and friend) and Marcus Stone.

A bit shaky and anachronistic take on a vengeful H equalizing scores by using and dumping the h/sister of his enemy. Only we don't get the promised trainwreck as he chickens out midway and finds himself incapable of 'using' her thus.
But of course, the MU has to come up and the h refuses to believe him etc.
The story (and the angst) lost me at places but overall I'd give it to the book.
Not bad!

I haven't read book #1 (of her brother) so I don't know how much this H's dead sister (the whole reason for vengeance) stars in that one but I like that that lady is not shown as wholly black or white and blame is apportioned all around. Most realistically.

I quite enjoyed this well balanced ride down the path of vengeance and regret.
It doesn't wallow or get repetitive.
I liked too, that the characters were all fallible... except the heroine of course. Her only issue is that she's a little gullible.

Lucan hates Constance's oldest brother because of how he treated his sister. He's put his sister on a pedestal and all the blame on the men who caused her downfall. His main goal in life is to make them pay. So he decides, in his grief twisted mind, that he will humiliate and seduce Constance and then not marry her. He plotted all this not thinking of Constance as a person but as a pawn on a chessboard.

Once he meets her, his plans go awry and he finds it difficult to maintain his distance.
Constance is smitten. She's been having a hard time with the ton since the truth of her parentage was revealed and Lucan is the first aristocrat to pay attention to her since the season started.
She has no idea it's all part of his Machiavellian plan.

The truth is revealed long before the end of the book, which was nice, because it allowed the plot to move on and became less predictable.

Constance is no doormat and Lucan, although furious a lot of the time, isn't evil.

Still liking this author's style and look forward to reading more. Her books though feel a little quick. I wish there was a little more time for details.

safety is good.

Constance is The Duke sister and Anthony sister.
She's is no longer part of the society due to a secret about her has gotten out.
Shes the beautiful bastard and no one wants her.

But Lucan wants to get revenge on The Duke by using his sister.
But of course that backfires.

Okay read.

First I love the cover of this book. Second the name of the book is so apt!

Sins of a Duke was a wonderful romance of revenge and love, pain and forgiveness, with two characters that were absolutely perfect for each other. Lady Constance was strength and innocence in one beautiful package, and The Duke of Mondvale also known as the Lord of Sin was a dark hero, tortured, revenge driven, and utterly intriguing. I really loved his character…even when I wanted to slap him silly, I was mooning over him.

“Mondvale sat splayed in the most insolent manner, his cravat undone, a glass of champagne dangling loosely from his hand. She could sense the leashed power of his personality beneath the casual façade he presented.”

I think this was where I started to fall in love! I love a good, powerful duke!

Then…. "she couldn’t look away from him, awed by the ruthless beauty of his face. High cheekbones intensified the aristocratic cast of his features, and cruel sensuality curved the hard line of his mouth.”

Really? I fell more in love and then I started to learn about the pain and rage that was driving him to seek vengeance. At first I scream HELL NO…Constance is all that is sweet…what the heck? Then I started to feel Lucan's pain and while I did not agree with his method at ALL, I empathized with him.

I enjoyed both Constance aka Connie and Lucan character equally. Constance was so sweet but fiery. But her fieriness was a bit understated until she found out the depth of Lucan sins against her. That confrontation was great for me. And what I loved is that Connie did not find out at the end of the book (I think a bit over the half mark?) giving me a good look at how Lucan won her back. Though I really think he needed to bleed a bit more. LOL. Connie was a good character, young, but determined to forge her own path and not let her family pressured her into any unhappy alliance.

The book was so full of angst, but lovely gut wrenching angst that kept me on edge while I skipped the pages. Realistically I knew I was reading a romance book, so I knew they would get a happy every after, but my heart pounded and I was caught up in Connie’s emotion so much I thought I would have hated Lucan from how he ruined her.

Then when Lucan confronted his nemesis who happened to be Connie’s brother Sebastian, the duke of Calydon I almost died. Because I read Sebastian story in The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding and I loved him and I wanted nothing to ruin my view of him. But the scene was done masterfully, showing the pain of each character involvement in everything that was going on.

If I do not stop waxing I will be telling you of everything that happened in the book and ruin for those who want to read! All I will say is that I enjoyed this story immensely. It was more emotional than the other two previous work in the series, and also less sexy I think. The sex scene was just as emotional and hot, but we were only treated to one scene of Lucan and Connie making love, but it was pretty good.

I am now eager to read Marcus and Charlotte’s story. I do hope the author will write about them.

I highly recommend Sins of a Duke

I am a big fan of Stacy Reid's books, and this series is tied with her Wedded by Scandal series as my faves of hers. This is the third book in the Scandalous House of Calydon, and while it is not strictly necessary, I would highly recommend reading at least book 1 in this series The Duke's Shotgun Wedding (Scandalous House of Calydon, #1) by Stacy Reid before reading this one to understand the H in this story's motivation. This review may contain spoilers if you have not read the first book.

Lucan Wynwood is the new Duke of Mondvale (aka the "Duke of Sin") who also happens to be a 1/4 owner of Decadence, the gaming hell and risque club the ton secretly loves to visit but publicly shuns. He did not know of his parentage growing up, but as it turns out, he is the son of the last duke's daughter. His mother was disowned when she wed a man her family did not approve of; thus, it took time to locate Lucan and inform him of his "good fortune." But on his own, Lucan has amassed a considerable fortune as he has traveled the world and made a name for himself in the merchant world. His goal for the last several years? Avenge the death of his sister Marissa - the former mistress of the Duke of Calydon that Lucan believes was driven by his callousness and cruelty to take her own life. He has succeeded in ruining the other men he felt were responsible, but Calydon has presented a challenge as he seems to have no weaknesses.... except a younger sister (Constance) that he adores. Thus, Lucan has made a plan to ruin Constance as he believes Calydon ruined his sister.

Constance has recently learned that the man she considered an "uncle" that her mother wed soon after becoming a widow is actually her father; not the cold duke whose affections she could never seem to gain. At least now she understands why it was an impossible feat. Her mother carried on an affair with her true father during much of the time she was married to the duke; upon the duke's passing, it was made public that Constance and her older brother Anthony were bastards as the duke disinherited both of them in his will. Though her eldest brother, the current duke and only biological child of the former duke's, has done his best to shelter Constance from the humiliation, she has gone from a diamond of the first water in her inaugural season to the "Beautiful Bastard" who is shunned by society because of her illegitimate birth status. Believing now that she will never marry, Constance is surprised when the Duke of Sin singles her out and starts visiting her, taking her on picnics, going on carriage rides, visiting the opera.... As she finds herself falling more and more under the spell of the handsome charmer, Constance starts to believe she can have love after all.

Lucan finds that he is not immune to Constance's beauty or charm, but he is steadfast in his resolve to avenge his sister's death. Will he follow through with his plan to ruin Constance? Is there any possibility that he will regret the actions he has taken and change his course? And if he does, when Constance learns of his betrayal, can she forgive him?

What I liked:
--- Constance was "damaged" in that she was maligned and shunned by those who used to call her friend and those who courted her before the scandal broke, but she was a lot tougher than most gave her credit for; she was also bolder than the average debutante when it came to pursuing what she wanted: Lucan
--- Lucan was the kind of H you wanted to be mad at for putting Constance in the position he did, but at the same time, you felt sorry for him because of what he had gone through; he was also definitely redeemable as an H, which was key to ultimately rooting for this unlikely couple to get an HEA
--- Plot was interesting and kept the story moving pretty quickly; I was interested in learning more about the other partners of the club, so I hope they have their own stories down the line
--- Steamy goodness (what there was of it) was delish

What I didn't like as much:
--- Dragged a little in the middle
--- Not as steamy as Stacy Reid's books usually are, which was a disappointment for me - there was some "under the clothes" groping stuff, but no home runs until the very end of the book

Overall, this was another very enjoyable read! Likeable main characters despite their flaws; could have used some more steam in this one, but ultimately, a satisfying HEA.

Plot --- 4/5
Main Characters --- 4.5/5
Supporting Cast --- 4.5/5
Steam Level* --- 3/5
Violence --- nothing graphic (some discussion of the suicide of the H's sister, which could be a possible trigger for some)
Language --- not egregious
POV --- 3rd

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Another Stacy Reid story that works for me.

The hero and heroine were both written in ways that I enjoy in a story. Yes, the hero has his flaws. He sets out to hurt the heroine as revenge. I've read the storyline before, so him doing so and being jerk along the way was nothing new. What's important to me is that the author is able to write the story well enough so you can see the hero fall in love with the heroine and start to change his mind about revenge and start the groveling for forgiveness process. And I feel that was done nicely in this story.

The heroine was also written well as bold and curious about sexy times... yet was not written as a promiscuous harlot. She had an innocent, cheery disposition about her that enabled readers to root for her. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Sins Of A Duke, the third offering from the Scandalous House of Calydon series, introduces readers to one Lucan Lynwood, Duke of Mondvale. While all surface details show our dark duke to be yet another privileged child of the ton, come to dip an unearned silver spoon into the trough of it's bounty. One only has to look the slightest bit closer to see that he is so much more.

Joining Lucan in this dangerous dance of scandal, love, passion and lies is the exquisite, albeit socially excommunicated Lady Constance Thornton. Known throughout fashionable circles as "the beautiful bastard," the enchanting Lady Thornton is no stranger to the rumor mill, the furtive glance, or the backhanded compliment.

So when a chance meeting in a moonlit garden turns into a stolen dance, and sparks an attraction that neither the duke, nor his lady are able to ignore...oh how the plot thickens.

For you see, the duke desires Lady Thornton for more than her flashing eyes and untried passion. She is the means by which he plans to right an old wrong and avenge the untimely death of his beloved sister, Marissa.

It goes without saying that authoress Stacy Reid is a masterful 'star maker' when it comes to penning complex and involving characters. The surprise this in this read comes in the knowledge of just who steals the show this time.

From all indications, one would think that Lucan, and all of his devious plotting, scheming, brooding, and stewing would win hands down. On this score though, you would be sadly mistaken. For while it is true that Lucan has the looks, power, past, and sex appeal that romantic drama lovers swoon for; it is the forthright honesty and unabashed belief in the power of self truth exemplified by Constance, that serves to set this read apart from the pack.

Constance may be an 'innocent' in the ways of love and passion but she proves quite the veteran when it comes to overcoming the obstacles that stand between her and her goals. She is the rose among thorns, and watching her mange to not only stand her ground, but bloom amid scorn, deception, and manipulation...is simply exquisite!

The romance between Lucan and Constance is one laced with a raw carnality that draws the reader in like a moth to a flame. The two of them together is a force of nature that sweeps one up to the highest of peaks and drops one into the deepest of valleys with equal aplomb.

This is a romance that lets the 'white knight' look good in and out of her dress. One for the ladies...Sins Of A Duke is nothing short of a romance lover's blessing!

Sweet and simple despite the angsty story

There is just one paragraph where you get a real sense of Constance as a character...when she talks about meeting the little orphan boy on her walks in the countryside....that is all the character development Ms. Reid attempts....she focuses too much on telling the story instead of allowing the reader to experience it.....the only interesting book in the series is the first Novella-The Duke's shot gun wedding. The second book felt like more of a left over from the novella that they decided to publish later.....this book is ok...that is all. Will not be reading anymore from this writer since I want more depth to my stories and more than one dimension for my characters.

This book could have been the traditional revenge story line, however it sparkles with great characters and depth. While Lucan was intent on extracting revenge on the Duke of Calydon for the mistreatment of his sister, he falls victim to his own plans.
Watching a devilish Duke change is a concept well covered in historical romance novels. I had to think about what exactly made this book work so well. It’s not the typical trope trotted out. I think it was so good because Lucan had a conscious. From the start Constance was a revelation. She captured him and didn’t let go. Lucan battled with reason and emotions to continue his plans to ruin Constance (which he had already put in motion before he met her), but once he saw the damage to her it changed him.
This story is so much more than a rogue and an ingénue falling in love. With elements of Romeo and Juliet and revenge, the story draws heavily on the emotions of the characters. Lucan was so well developed. He wields his power to cause harm and once his heart has been touched, he moves heaven and earth to help. I think what I liked so much about the story was the revelation of Lucan. While he was definitely still a bad boy, with his naughty dialogue and plans, he became tamed by his love for Constance.
Constance is the illegitimate daughter of a Duke and the status of her birth has been leaked to the ton. She is isolated and scorned by those that she once called friends. To watch her mourn her previous life and then to be set free by the injustice done to her was amazing. Sure, she was lonely and the sudden courtship of Lucan captivated her, but it went so much deeper than that. The best way to describe the attraction and courtship between the two is that moment of meeting the right one. Constance no longer worried about the sly comments or hurtful cuts of the members of the ton, as she had found the man she loved and she was willing to fight for it.
Entangled families create great tension points when telling a story. Pitting two Dukes against each other and using their sisters as targets makes for a tension that draws the reader in. I found this book to be very compelling and captivating. The way the characters thought about each other, the lust they shared and the high standards they demanded made them real and likeable. I found myself sympathizing with Lucan and Constance. I understood their needs and desires. I really, really wanted them to be together because when they were the sparks flew. The love scenes are not numerous, but so well-crafted that you feel the intensity and longing leap off the page. The suspense of what Lucan would be like as a lover was palpable during the book, as the author describes his intentions with vivid images. I also kind of liked that Lucan wore glasses – a feature not usual in stories with an alpha male intent on revenge.
Entangled Publishing has published some great books in the past year that I have been fortunate to read. This book is another success for them. What could have been a tried and true formulaic story was anything but that. Stacy Reid has taken a traditional story line and breathed new life into this trope. She has created very complex characters that you relate to with your emotions and heart.

Gw sukaaa banget sama Lady Constance (Connie), bener2 bolt.. awalnya gw pikir die miserable banget karena dikucilkan dan sedikit “ewww penting banget apa penilaian orang laen ke kita” tp ya pada masa itu, ton itu bener2 deh ya, yg tadinya temenan jadi gak mau nyapa, papasan melengos.. keknya temenan para ton itu fake banget ahahahaha… tp Connie pas ngadepin Lucan awwww… Lucan nya sampe gak bisa ngomong apa2, berkali-kali.. Dan gw malah lupa ceritanya Sebastian dong, sementara Anthony gw blm baca buahahahaha.. longkap, keknya scandal dimulai dari ending bukunya Anthony. Scandalnya itu

"I will take some of your darkness and give you my light."

The Duke of Mondvale isn't called the Lord of Sin for no reason. He is a notorious libertine, the kind of man that she, with her already tarnished reputation, shall avoid. Yet Lady Constance Calydon still finds herself drawn to him, his charisma, his mysteriousness.

Lady Constance is the perfect instrument for the Duke of Mondvale's revenge against the man who ruined her sister. Even more, Lady Constance has made things easier for him because she responds to him. But what started out as a quest for vengeance became something more as he finds himself falling for Lady Constance. Later on, he has to make an inevitable decision: to ruin Lady Constance as his retaliation or to forget about it and just walk away.

Another crappy summary brought to you by yours truly. I really wanted to just get on with my thoughts about the book so please cut me some slack.

This book infuriated the hell out of me in a good way. For a book to be able to elicit such emotion from me, I think it's good because it makes the book unforgettable. I also found it a wonder how a book managed to make me react like I did with this one.

With the characters, I just had to let this out. I HATE CONTANCE'S MOTHER. I know that she was only a secondary character, but damn, I was seething while reading her verbal exchanges with Constance when she implied that she should not be picky as to whom to marry. It was her goddamned fault that Constance had no choice! (See, what I'm talking about?)

I also felt that Constance lets Lucan get away with stuff easily. Twice. She forgave him right away. I was quite expecting her to let Lucan work really hard, if not crawl, after what he did to her. But all it took was a letter. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? A part of me wanted her to play hard to get but when I think about it, it's against Constance's nature to do. So I'll just concede because I really like Constance even if she seemed like a push over.

I still don't know why I like this book when all it did was annoy me. Perhaps it was my attachment to Constance. I felt the need to wrap her in a blanket and protect her from society because they've been really cruel to her. I think that's a very solid evidence that the writing got me. It was really emotional and I could actually feel Constance's grief when she was betrayed, when she was ostracized because of something that she didn't have a choice. Or Lucan's regret when he realized that the woman he loved got away.

Stacy Reid knows how to create something really great out of a plot that's considered really predictable and mediocre nowadays.

Also, it would've done me good if I read the previous books of the series to really understand what happened. Nevertheless, I had immense fun reading this.

Confession time: I've been waiting for Sins of a Duke since The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell released last year. I love the Calydon series, and when I had the chance to receive and read an ARC of Sins of a Duke, I jumped at it. "Sins" is the story of Sebastian and Anthony's younger sister, Constance, as she deals with the fallout of being outed as a bastard. Society has turned on her and all her marriage prospects are nil to none. Enter Lucan, the Duke of Mondvale. And his plans for revenge that include Constance. Yet, as they spend more time together, becoming closer, he must decide between the revenge that has driven him or the love of a woman who is related to his sworn enemy. Where do I start? Constance and Lucan's story drew me in from page one. Yes, Connie is eighteen, but the scandal has forced her to grow up, and she is an admirable heroine. Strong, forthright, courageous and honest. And then there's Lucan, who is scandalous himself, but saved by his title. He's driven by the demon of revenge, but still, he has this vulnerable side that is so endearing. He's determined, brilliant, ruthless and tortured. I have such a soft side for tortured heroes, and Lucan pushed every button. I could say the characters drive this story because they are that rich, lovable and complicated, but the plot is so wonderful I can't claim that. This is a story of revenge, redemption, and healing through forgiveness and love. Love. The romance in this book is absolutely breathtaking. It has the sweeping romance and beauty of old Johanna Lindsey and Virginia Henley books and the eroticism of Nicole Jordan. I finished Sins of a Duke in one sitting. And not because it's a short book, but because I couldn't put it down. It drew me in, captured me, and didn't let go until the last word. All Stacy Reid's books in this series have been the same. She has fast become a go-to, auto-buy author for me. Sins of a Duke stays on the To-be-Read-Again pile!

This was a really good ‘revenge plot’ romance, where the FMC is not naive and DOES wonder about the MMC’s motives.

Constance was a great heroine — she spoke her mind and her actions had me cheering. I also really liked how Lucan’s revenge against her brother moved their romance along, sometimes in ways I didn’t expect, although the resolution did feel a little rushed.

description

Ostracized Lady Constance Thornton is drawn to the Duke of Mondvale, the Lord of Sin. Delectably handsome and debauched he is secretly lusted after by every female member of the ton. What is the harm of paying him attention if she is already looked down upon? Little does she know that Mondvale has already noticed her and has already made his own plans regarding her welfare.

The story line was exceptional because it was out of the ordinary. Past occurrences fueling current schemes are new and uncommon in any historical romance I've read before. The writing was easy to follow and lacking in confusing dialogue and situations.

Constance Thornton is a strong female lead. Although she has moments where she looses her temper, thus showing her weak spots, she manages to carry herself with dignity despite her unfortunate circumstances. I appreciated her nerve and determination in securing Mondvale. She proved that not only was she young and beautiful but she was made of tougher metal than the other young ladies in society. Her ability to stand up to her family is more than courageous.

Mondvale you hated to love. His intentions were not honest in the beginning and for that, we must dislike him. But the reasons behind his actions were so sad and heartfelt that you can't help but feel sorry for him. And as his feelings for Constance begin to become to apparent, we can't help but wonder what path he will choose. Ultimately, he is a gentleman and makes the right choice although the road there is far from smooth.

As a couple, they shine. It takes some time apart and harsh words before they finally solidify their relationship but it's plain to see they are stellar together. Both shunned by society and for differing reasons but that in itselfbrings them together. Some of their best scenes ( and my favorites) include Connie's forwardness and Lucan's shock at her words.

Stacy Reid I'm a fan! I cannot wait to read more of your work!

An emotional, sweet, and absolutely fantastic romance, Sins of a Duke was an excellent read. I really loved this book. It had likable characters, a great story, and a lovely romance.

Constance was great. She knew when to go after what she wanted but also refused to let herself be a doormat. She judged a person by merit rather than rumor and knew when it was time to forgive. She was lively, kind, and a really likable heroine.

Lucan was interesting. At first, I was worried that he would come off as unlikable because he was using an innocent woman as a means for revenge. But, it quickly became clear that he had more of a conscience than he admitted to. His desire for revenge stemmed from the guilt he felt from being unable to protect his sister and, in the end, it wasn't in him to truly hurt someone. He showed that he could be very sweet and was willing to fight for the woman he loved, even if that meant just waiting for her forgiveness. I thought he was wonderful.

The romance was perfect. Constance and Lucan were lovely together. They were such a sweet couple and an equal one. Constance knew when to let Lucan squirm for what he had done but knew that, when an apology was as heartfelt as the one Lucan gave, it was time to forgive. No melodramatics, thank goodness. And, they definitely had chemistry together that smoldered at their every meeting.

The plot moved quickly and kept me hooked right from the start. The story was wonderful and the ending was perfect.

Sins of a Duke was a delightful historical romance that I absolutely loved. It was wonderfully sweet, romantic and emotional. Everything about it was just perfect. Romance lovers, this is a book you won't want to miss.

5 Grab-your-heart STARS!!

This is my first Stacy Reid novel, but it won't be my last. From the title, I was hoping for a naughty Duke pursuing delicious debauchery with a débutante and... I most certainly got what I wanted!!!

This is the 3rd book in the Scandalous House of Calydon series and could be read as a standalone, but don't pass up the chance to read about illicit passion and tormented Hero's/Heroine's in the first 2 books.

The Duke's Shotgun Wedding (Scandalous House of Calydon #1)
The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell (Scandalous House of Calydon #2)
(1-clicked both of these immediately upon finishing Sins. I loved the writing, and once meeting the characters, I needed to know their stories too)

Stacy Reid takes you on a tormented journey that will grab your heart from Page 1. Lucan, the Duke of Mondvale, also the owner of the gaming club Decadence, is on quest for revenge. And he sets his sights on the scandalized and ostracised Lady Constance Thornton, sister to Sebastian Thornton. There is a devastating and heart-breaking history that brought me to tears with the gut-wrenching consequences of revenge and keeping secrets.

I really enjoyed the supporting characters. They brought humour, wit, and sometimes just ticked the heck out of the main characters and that had some laugh out loud moments. I loved that the Heroine was feisty, funny and emotional when she needed to be. She didn't take any crap!!! And the passionate, tormented Hero drops a few f-bombs and that just amped the intensity I was already feeling from this tale of revenge and healing hearts.

At some point I realized that this story, journey made me feel the intensity I felt when I watched both movie versions of Pride and Prejudice. The author writing this, Stacy Reid, is that good!!!! I had tears and smiles. Read it in one afternoon because I couldn't put it down until I knew how it would turn out.... Recommend it most ardently!!

Revenge and Redemption.

This was an intense and emotional read.

The description above gives you an general overview of story between Lucan and Constance. A heroine who is has been shunned by society as rumor begins that she is a bastard. We have Lucan a powerful and rich Duke who is out for his sisters revenge. And it's Constance that is the target due to it being her brother that was part of Lucan's sisters death, he believes. A sister for a sister.

This is a romance that is rich in character and plot. The author does an excellent job in pealing off layers of the two MC in the story. You become immersed in there thought process and why they make certain decisions and their reactions. The plot is about revenge but also the redemption of past hurts and wrongs committed. The beautiful heroine is young in age but acts strong and mature in her decisions. She knows her own mind and stands up for herself (which I love). Lucan is handsome (love that he wore glasses!!) appearing ruthless and bent on extracting revenge for his sister at almost any cost, at first. But he shows a side of himself that Constance brings out that is sweet, tender and a gentleman in the end.

This is a sweet and tender romance. There is definitely some excellent chemistry between the two MC with some very smoldering moments between them. We also have family and lot's of angst thrown in too.

I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would, Lucan he intrigued me, "he cleared his throat and pushed his glasses firmer on his nose. "I am at your disposal, my lady, what would you like to know?" He did give me whiplash at times one minute he was all for Constance and the next the boy was just rude, "a scowl settled on his face. "Why did you come out here, Constance?" He could be crude and blunt and those were the times I loved him the most, "his eyes narrowed. "Leave before I bend you over and eff you here." He could be so sweet and I also enjoyed that part of him, "and when you are ready for me," he gripped the hard, thick part of him that jutted out to her so proudly. "I am going to join us together." I can't wait to see what else this author is going to have to offer us.

3.5/4 stars. I love an antihero and this one was not bad enough. I never wondered how the author would redeem the H because he was never close enough to irredeemable.

Sins of a Duke ticked all the boxes for me. I love a period piece, one that can plant me firmly in days gone by, surrounded by the haut monde and all of the social conventions of that time. A strong heroine, standing up for her beliefs, particularly where love is concerned, while maintaining her decorum and dignity in a world full of hypocrisy and fickle social loyalties. A hero who starts out with the worst intentions, who can be cold and calculating, whose heart thaws and shows his own character growth. Characters that are perfectly matched for each other in wit, strength, loyalty, and maturity. This book had it all.

Even though Constance's reputation in London society is in tatters, she holds her head up high and I loved her strength of character. When her sights upon the Duke of Mondvale, she is instantly attracted to his devilishly good looks and enigmatic personality. As the powers that be are already saying the worst about her, she has no fear of her desire to approach the Duke. Unbeknownst to her, he already has her in his sights and for a completely underhanded reason. I just loved Constance's character, she held her own in a time when women were supposed to be dainty, dutiful and compliant. After her first chance meeting with Lucan, she realises that she will not accept a marriage for anything less than true love. She holds on to her values, against her families urgings to marry another man whom she does not love, just to save her reputation. I admired her conviction and how she stuck to her guns, not accepting anything less that what was right for her. She really did face so much when society turned against her but she never wavered. I loved her sense of humor, her quick wit and how she kept Lucan on his toes. My heart bled for her when Lucan's deception comes to light, especially after how much she risked to continue their dalliance. I loved the fact that she didn't just accept his horrid behaviour and made him work really hard for her forgiveness and trust.

As much as I wanted to hate Lucan for what he had done, I couldn't. Not that I agreed with his methods, but my hero-apologist tendencies were at the fore where he was concerned and he did not disappoint with the lengths that he went to to grovel and make it up to Constance. He was so misguided where the object of his revenge was concerned, and I really felt his pain for the reason behind his vengeful thoughts, and when he really realised what he had done and how he had aimed his revenge at the one person who did not deserve it. The turn around in his character was a joy to watch as he fights his feelings for Constance, then making peace with his past. He had a depth of character that made you want to shake him to wake him up to the truth of the situation, and then soothe him and tell him it was going to be OK.

I just loved seeing the story from both points of view, seeing the world as they saw it and feeling every emotion, every touch, every angst-filled tear and uplifting joy with them. Their dialogue and banter with each other was engaging and highly entertaining. Their intimacy was passionate, sensuous and romantic. You could really feel the depth of feeling they had for each other. The scene at the end in the conservatory, perfect. I was fully invested in both of these characters and loved the appearance of the characters from the previous two books.

Stacy Reid has firmly planted herself in my auto-buy category and I cannot wait to read more.

Meh... it was okay

Lucan was weird. Extremely vengeful and quite mean to Constance. He destroyed her reputation, caused the ton to reject her... And then when they started to ''date'' lool, he ditched her one night during a ball, out of the blue, but not before having some pleasure with her in their hostess' garden.
The things he said to her, his behavior, he should have groveled more. That was NOT enough!

Now Constance, wow, that kid was stupid! Prince charming where? You met someone with aw awful reputation, you follow him that first night in a conservatory, then you beg him to kiss you? I know it was supposed to be romantic, that kiss under the stars and sh*t, but no just annoying!
Constance was too pushy... The guy kept rejecting her and she would always go to him and talks about how he must feel something for her -_- When she learned of his revenge at his club, I was done with her behavior...

The secondary characters were not really endearing, I like none of them -_-

I was really glad when the story ended lol! It wasn't bad, a sexy romance but both Lucan and Constance were meh... I didn't believe in their love, it looks more like extreme lust...
