God rewards the pious, so I remain chaste.

God loves the meek, so I strive for obedience.

God forgives the repentant, so I atone for sins I have not committed.

But my knees have been sullied in worship to a vacant altar.

Everything I was taught is a lie.

There is no God here.

USA TODAY bestselling author and Amazon Top 25 bestselling author, Addison Cain is best known for her dark romances, smoldering paranormal suspense, and twisted alien worlds. Her antiheroes are not always redeemable, her lead females stand fierce, and nothing is ever as it seems.

Deep and sometimes heart wrenching, her books are not for the faint of heart. But they are just right for those who enjoy unapologetic bad boys, aggressive alphas, and a hint of violence in a kiss.

This dubious delight is the short story originally featured in the Twisted Sacrament anthology.
"Immaculate" formally titled "she came before God" is the warped wonder straight from the unnatural imaginings of one of my most favourite authors.
As the story unfolded I watched with an almost Awe-filled sense of such morbid curiosity.
Lulled at first into a misplaced sense of complicity it quickly became apparent that things here were not what they seemed and so very far from anyone's norm.
and as the story progressed: we were very swiftly pulled down into the depths of a debased depravity: one that I could have scarcely imagined with an almost cavalier debauchery.
This is abominable and disquieting and everything foul, unspeakable and ugly but I found myself unable to look away: glued with an almost horrified amazement to the unfolding Atrocity.
Bravo to the author I am suitably distressed and disgusted with this twisted tale.
I don't know whether to applaud or turn right around and flee far far away.
This definitely does what it says on the tin: She Came before God is a holy horror of hypocrisy and there is nothing devout or devoted between these pages.
This is pure non-con: forewarned is forearmed and I know I have said this before but please know your own limits.
I do like to have my boundaries stretched and can definitely say in this instant they were taut with tension.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of This Immaculate.

Update: This 50 page story is no longer on KU and costs $3.99. That's ridiculous. This 50 page story is not worth $3.99 IMhO. I'd love for it to be expanded upon into a full length novel though. I will raise my rating with a more reasonable price.

Addison's writing was phenomenal, as usual. This story was decadent and deliciously sacrilegious.

This was definitely more on the dark and horrific side of the genre. I kept on wishing the story would take on a more sensual tone. A forbidden love or lust trope would have been nice. There's a ton of potential for this short story to be expanded.

I loved this! The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because I wanted a darker ending. The ending was still good though. It did leave you with some interesting questions and I loved that it wasn't a HEA. Addison Cain is my go to when I want something dark! So far she hasn't disappointed me 😊

Awful

This book is atrocious; a woman gets raped repeatedly, the end. No one helps, she doesn’t over come, there is no plot and no purpose, just rape. One of the worst stories I have even encountered.

Five pitch-black starrs for Addison’s Immaculate!

This is a short story that shows a virgin sacrifice to the “holy church.”
A church that’s lead by men that are depraved, foul and disgusting.
A church that allows a pope to destroy a young devout virgin’s dreams for a bright future.
A church that allows a pope to take the very thing that makes that young virgin pure.

And as only Addison can,it’s told with details that’ll keep haunting you for a very, very long time....
Not for the faint-hearted,but those that like their dark......really,really dark!

Ladies and Gentlemen... we have a winner for worlds darkest, most twisted story written to date! Seriously... OMG.... I can't even write a review about how dark this story is if I want this review to get published... LOL. All I can say... this book is NOT for readers just coming into the world of dark romance and horror. It WILL push your boundaries. It WILL make you uncomfortable. It will make you squirm in your seat while you read it... And you WILL LOVE every word of it!

This short novella might be one of my worst nightmares coming to life. Having been raised Catholic the majority of my life before I saw the light, this story and having a fascination with History made me question how close this might be to the truth. It wouldn't surprise me in the least, just saying. #sorrynotsorry #notodaysatan

Addison seemed to get into the mindset of the time period when a woman's worth was dependent on many things; piety, purity, devotion, obeying the dictates of patriarchy, and obedience in order to ultimately become a wife and mother. She posits what happens when there are additional players in the grand scheme of where or what happens to the woman. How does the woman accept that? Religion has and continues to influence the lives of many people especially in this story and how this "tradition" continues with each daughter. All I could think about at the end of this short story is Holy Effing TITFIRE followed by how accurate is DNA 123 because there are going to be ALOT of screwed up family trees for all those genealogy peeps out there.

Imagine yourself sitting on the precipice of the abyss contemplating life with no intention of going over and then having someone shove you from behind. This story is the precipice in this case and Addison just shoved you over, cackling the entire time, because she knows you will be pushed out of your comfort zone. Be prepared.
This story just proved that I am definitely more at home in Hell with the Devil than dealing with Catholic Bishops. I am thinking because the Devil has no qualms admitting that he is bad and that Religious people such as these are acting as "God" when they are in fact, worse than the devil they condemn.

I LOVE this author because she has a gift at writing ANYTHING and make it intriguing juxtaposed with deeply disturbing. This story is no different. Generally, these short stories turn into something bigger (whether a full story or a series), in this case, this is one that I hope doesn't continue as it was out of my comfort zone. However, even saying that I know I would still read it because this author could rewrite a cereal box and I would read it.

This is a quick dirty, dark, twisted read (not a surprise from this author) that kept my attention way to actively during this quick read. Since this was so quick I didn't feel like I got a true read on the characters but I was definitely engrossed trying to figure out what line was about to be crossed next.

Truly this read is not for the faint but if you are looking for dark and twisted here you go.

What the f... did I just read??

That is pretty much how I always feel after reading an Addison Cain book. However, the writing and stories are so incredible that, despite my shock and horror, I keep coming back for more. This one is right up there with the best of the worst of the best of Addisons arsenal of shocking conclusions!! I'm not sayin' nothin' more. Because there is no way that I can without giving something away. And I want everyone to be as delightfully appalled as I was. This is a short story, yes. But one that you absolutely must experience!!

When brainwashing holds a legacy

This Short is NOT for everyone. As this story gives us in full gory details the nightmare a family line continues to suffer.

With author Addison Cain I expect sadism at it's best and it was what I found here, she took noncom and horror told them to hold hands with that we where given this book. Reader beware this is a story where our heroine's mind finally truly sees what is going on around her with hope she'll be the one to break traditions.

Immcaulate is a deeply twisted and thoroughly engaging read. Addison Cain builds a world around her main character, Agnese, that feels real and filled with history, and yet is personal and distinctly unique. I enjoyed the immersion in what felt like a historical fiction and was titillated by the dark events that unfolded in and around that snapshot of history. As always, Addison's language is rich and evocative and I found myself wanting more from this strangely sweet and strong character.

Considering the religious setting and involvement in this story, it is not for the faint of heart and certainly not for those who are offended by dark depictions of religion and religious figures. For the rest of us, enjoy!

This is the first time that I had to take a day after reading the book before I sat down to write my review. This book definitely pushed every boundary I have. While I am usually fairly liberal with seeing romance even in the darkest of places, this book is NOT a romance in any shape of form. The events described in the book are harrowing, most of the characters are despicable, evil, or both, there is no light here only darkness lives on these pages. Addison Cain's ability to suck the reader into a dark and depraved world and keep him there long after the book has been finished is uncanny. Her writing is beautiful even when the subject matter is anything but.

This story is meant to be sacrilegious and filled with horror and there will NOT be a HEA.

Addison does this in spades with this story. It is crazy addicting because even as I wasn't sure I wanted to keep reading I just couldn't put it down. It is one of those stories you read, then have to just sit back and process! Lol

Addison tells a tale that is most horrifying because it is something that could have actually happened in the past. Yet she tells it so well you also can't stop reading.

More often than not, when I pick up an Addison Cain novel, I love it, but I do not know how to feel about this short story. I'm giving it three stars for the emotions it stirred in me, the interesting premise, and the intelligent writing. I can't rate it any higher because it was too weird of a read for me. I don't see myself ever being drawn back to this novella again, unless she turns it into a full novel.

This is disgusting and the fact that made me feel sick and grimace says a lot, it dealt with the pope and the main idea is that one Italian family has a child usually a daughter HEAVY into religion she's pure and literally untouched of any sins etc. until she goes to the pope aka her godfather which RAPES her as a ritual TILL HE DIES in order to bring the coming of Christ through the sexual act.

FUCKING , DISGUSTING I already have a problem with religion and how sick that can be and this just clicked every button, once again Addison Cain did her thing 5 stars cause honestly the book did exactly as it should, and absolutely disgusted me

Addison Cain has done it again with another beautifully crafted haunting horror story.  I came before GOD was the story of the ancient Vatican and its sexual corruption within. This has to ne her most twisted story to date.  It not only made me question myself for loving such horrific darkness. It also made me question WTF did I just read, several times.  This book is not for the faint of heart. People please read the trigger warnings.  Its horrifically dark and and has no HEA. Its definitely a must read it you like your books dark as I do.

I follow Addison on social media and when this was released, I had no idea it was even coming out, but I was excited b/c I'm a huge fan and just about anything she writes is worth reading. Based on the cover, I had no idea what to expect, but damn! I was not expecting this. This story is just effed up! Like, really effed up. But, if you're like me and tend to gravitate towards books with really stronger trigger warnings, then this just might be for you. It's a quick read and will leave you dumbfounded and speechless by the end. Well done Addison. You've outdone yourself with this one.

Twisted

Addison Cain takes dark to a whole new level in this story. Addison transports you into the mind of a young woman who has been raised her whole life as looking forward to becoming someone’s wife and all the duties she will handle. Little did she know that the Pope has other plans for her. This sick and twisted story made me want to throw up for this poor girl and the sickness that she had to endure. And that’s saying something from a fellow sadist. Well done Addison.

Felt unfinished.

I don't know if it's just because it went so fast and I'm not used to that with Mrs cain, but it felt unfinished. Honestly I'm not sure what more I would
Have wanted but it was missing something for me. The story as it was, was truly horrific and saddening because you know somewhere in the history of the church that this has happened. Somewhere in someone's family true lurks this nasty secret.

Just because of the whole DMCA notice against author Zoey Ellis, it's immediately a no.

You can't own ideas and she didn't even come up with any of the tropes/elements inside Omegaverse or A/B/O or the AU itself. Maybe give compensations to the fans who generated the material in the first place, then?

As the Tines put it "how easily intellectual property law can be weaponized by authors seeking to take down their rivals."

Man, religious trauma sure is something else.

Shuddersome, dark, definitely not for the faint-hearted or those sensitive to discussions of sexual assault (because wow, this is some vile stuff)- but definitely fascinating, and densely packed for its diminutive length.

A big old "wow".

I'd like it expanded into a novel. Like this, it's a bit too condensed for the horror to set in, in my opinion.
