Alexander hates the entire concept of soulmate marks. From a young age, he’s seen the flaw in their design. His father is his mother’s soulmate, but she is not his, Isabelle's words are most certainly written by mundane, and the words on Jace's collarbone are not the first words Alec said to him.

And when Alec's own mark comes in, he hates it all the more.

I binge-read it in 2 days, it was so amazingly written, that I just kept gulping it down by my eyes.
I really enjoyed the beginning when Alec doubtful about soulmate marks, when he was injured and Magnus denied help at first, I loved how Magnus got to see real Alec who saved the warlock child and helpem him to heal. But I must say that the part when and got closer felt kind of like not exactly fitting the preceeding part of the story. I dont know whether the author changed their mind, or whether it was always intended next progression, but the transition to things happening in Valentine´s prison felt kind up weird, may be a little bit out blue. I felt like something was missing, like that some part with setting up the atmosphere and what was going on got lost or omitted.
I guess it isnt weird, but with how things were before I was surprised how quickly Magnus and Alec started to see each other in different light, I thought that they would struggle more in seeing the right colors of each other. It felt a little bit easy for them to fall in love.

I love the alliance rune idea behind the final battle, I loved Alec using magic, but I must say that the final battle ended kind of too quickly and with condensed narrative which was a little bit letdown. The final battle deserved conclusion written with more details.
