I never thought I'd be a writer, much less publish a book some day. I always wanted to be a veterinarian. I guess life just had other plans for me. When my husband and I decided to start a family, vet school pretty much went out the window. I used to work with a vet who had three children while going through vet school. To this day, she is my hero.
I live with my husband and two teenage sons in southern California. I have a Welsh pony and a miniature horse (down-sized from a barn of six horses). A crazy Labrador retriever who is a food vacuum, three cats, two parakeets, four bearded dragons (my compromise with my sons when they wanted a snake), and a small flock of chickens complete our menagerie of critters. I can’t imagine my life without my animals. My dream is to live in Montana some day.
Four years ago, I began writing a story that, for whatever reason, was stuck in my head for almost a year. I have been an avid romance reader for a long time, and the idea took hold to - why not? - write my own! What a simple idea, right? It has been a long and difficult journey from my first sentence to a completed, and hopefully polished, manuscript. Today, I have a completed series of 5 books and a novella in what I called The Yellowstone Romance Series, two books in my new Second Chances Time Travel Romance Series, and I am currently working on the final book in a trilogy set in the Grand Tetons.
What a wonderful surprise to find that Peggy Henderson’s Yellowstone Romance series was being extended. Anyone who is a fan of the series will absolutely love this book. From early on in reading the story the word that came to mind to describe it was “epic”. This is the sort of book that you can imagine being made into one of those amazing films full of wide-ranging shots of the scenery, lots of authentic historical detail and, of course, a breath-taking love story.
Yellowstone Origins introduces us to Cameahwait and Riley two very different people from different times. Cameahwait is a skilled and experienced mountain man; Riley is a woman who lives for her studies. They both have insecurities and emotional issues that hold them back from being the people they were born to be. At the start of the book Cameahwait comes across as very much the caveman type (albeit a very hunky caveman!). Riley is intelligent, clumsy, girly and absolutely adorable. (In fact she’s my favourite of Mrs Henderson’s female characters.) As this wonderful novel progresses we discover that there is much more to these two than meets the eye. Together they face adventure, danger, mystery and, of course, falling in love, and in the process find out who they really are and where they’re meant to be.
There is much more to this book though than the love story. Finally we find out a bit more about those mysterious Sky People. Incidents and conversations from earlier books are drawn on as well and start to make sense. In fact I had quite a few “aha” moments reading this novel. In light of that I do recommend reading at least Yellowstone Heartsong, Yellowstone Deception and A Yellowstone Promise before reading this book.
There is a lot more I could say about this fantastic novel but in fear of giving away spoilers I will just mention one final thing. As always in Peggy Henderson’s books the descriptions of the scenery and the wildlife is fantastic. I almost feel (again) as if I've been to Yellowstone. Mrs Henderson’s writing has always been good but she has really changed up a gear in Yellowstone Origins and the book was a real delight to read.
The book is kindly finished with the prologue to the next volume in the series. Like many others I'm sure, I can’t wait for that!
Cam and Riley's Story, The Beginning. Book 6 in the Yellowstone Series
This book is one of Ms. Henderson's best writings to date. The depth of the characters and stories take you to a time and place that you could only imagine. The story takes all the previous stories and brings them full circle and still opens it up for more!
There is so much adventure, romance and action and mystery in this book that when "the end" comes, you are still stuck in the story. It won't let you go. Well written!
This is a stand alone story, but I highly recommend you start at the beginning of the series with Yellowstone Heart Song. If you only want to read a few first before this book, I suggest, Yellowstone Deception and Yellowstone Promise.
Good read, time travel. She felt like an outsider, bullied and misused, so she finds solace in her books and research. She comes to Yellowstone, hoping to learn about its ancient inhabitants, and unexpectedly overhears a strange tale about time travel from a couple of park rangers. When a mysterious box of artifacts arrives for her, she is thrust into field research beyond her wildest dreams. He was first taken as baby away from his real parents and sent to the future for protection. As a boy he was taken again from the only family he knew, and thrown back into the past and unknown world. The Sky People spoke of promises yet they abandoned him to find his own way in a harsh and primitive land. She ends up in his world and is held prisoner by his enemies, he feels she may be the key to what he's sought for twelve long years. The Sky People have brought these two together for a reason if only they see this. HEA ending.
Back to the beginning. Loved how all the books and characters the in together. They can be read as a standalone but you will get more enjoyment by reading them in order. So many different parts cross over. I loved Cameron and Riley. Both unique characters each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Stronger together.
I have read all of the other stories so I can't opine whether this would be a possible stand alone . However the stories are all great pieces, a lovely blend of strong heroines and engaging heroes. This is no exception, blending a bookish nerd who comes into her own with a strong yet conflicted guy. A truly unique take on time travel romances
I read all the first five years ago and just discovered there were two more!!! Excellent and I am thrilled!!!! Wonderful read and ties in with the series so perfectly. Loved it!
She had me hooked from the beginning. Made time travel beliveable. It's been a while since I could hardly wait to get back to reading a book. She has an amazing ability to tell a story. Highly recommend.
I loved this book, we get to know more about the sky people and the beginning of the Osborne line it was so fascinating, can't wait to see what happened in Matt's story, and how his path intertwines with Cam's path.
This is book #11 in this series yellowstone Romance .and is a wonderful book I hope everyone Will start from book #1 and read. All 16 books to the series.
Riley Berard is an anthropologist studying at the university for a high degree. She has always been the nerdy girl, who was bullied in school, who never fit in and was made the butt of jokes by the athletic kids. She wants to learn some from the field instead of just books and she wants some type of inside information that others can’t get. When she goes to talk to the Yellowstone back country rangers, she overhears Dan Osbourne & his boss talking about time travel and what had happened in the past. The next day or so a box of ancient Native American artifacts shows up addressed to her and low and behold, one of the artifacts is the snakehead.
Cameahwait was taken into the past, to Yellowstone, in the late 1700s when he was just 12 years old, by one of the sky people. He thought that he would be going on a great adventure to help something in the past. Yet, he was abandoned by the Sky People and raised by a tribe of the Shoshone Indians up in the mountains at Yellowstone. He carried a lot of anger within himself for many years, both at the Sky People & some towards the Shoshone. He wants to find his way back to the future where he had both family and friends and life was easier.
When Cam finds a beautiful woman with the enemy Blackfoot warriors, he knows that she time traveled as well and he is hoping that he can find his way back and take her with him. But first he’ll have to go and see the Sky People elders to get her home. But during this time, Riley learns about survival and living in the wilderness and starts to fall in love with Cam and her new life. She has a huge decision to make if there is a possibility of returning to her time.
Even though this book is entitled the origins and is about how Daniel Osbourne and his father came to live in Yellowstone, when white men were scarce, it should be read in order. There are things that would be spoilers for some of the other books if they’re read out of order.
Even though several of the books in this series were possibly the last, I’m thinking that there could either be more to this one or there will be the possibility to a spinoff series. I would like a spinoff series, as I have more questions about the future of a couple of the characters. More specifically about the future of the other 2 kids that the Sky People rescued.
Yellowstone Origins is book 6 of my favorite Time Travel Romance Series. While reading this series, you'll feel as though you are traveling back in time and taking a trip through this beautiful park before humans had the chance to interfere with its beauty. If you haven’t read the other books in the series, I strongly recommend that you do. Peggy has a wonderful way of painting pictures with her words.
Daniel and Amiee are my favorite couple in the Yellowstone Romance Series but I now have a three-way tie going for the next favorite couple; Dan and Jana, Chase and Sarah and Cameron and Riley.
It is impossible not to fall in love with Cameron and Riley.
Cameron is so protective of Riley. He understands what she is experiencing because he’s gone through it himself. His empathy is very endearing and so is his ability to apologize. His noble side is so apparent in his struggle regarding his feelings for Riley. He wants to keep her but it has to be her choice.
Accident-prone Riley has to be admired for her drive and determination. Unlike Aimee, who I compare all the other women in the series to, Riley isn’t an outdoorswoman yet she rose to meet every obstacle head on. Apart from a beautiful love story and a wilderness adventure, it was amazing to finally learn more about the mysteriously manipulative Sky People. I am so glad to finally have the answer to why in Yellowstone Promise; Chase had to be the one to save Cameron from the mountain lion. I didn’t understand at the time why one of the Sky People just stood by and watched while Cameron was in danger.
Best Line: "The next time I kiss you, I won't stop at just a kiss, Riley. Be absolutely sure if you want me to kiss you again, because when I do, you'll belong to me, and I keep what's mine."
While I am sad that I have finished reading this story, I am looking forward to the audio-book version because the only thing better than reading this series is listening to it!
I received a free advance review copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my unbiased review.
Peggy L. Henderson's Time Travel Romance Series is a series of amazing books. The newest release, Yellowstone Origins, is set in historic Yellowstone, back when the land was wild and free. Riley Bernard is a college student who has never fit in to the world around her. She has always felt like she was on the outside looking in. She lacks confidence in her abilities and struggles to find friends outside of her books and research. Cameron was sent back from the year 2036 when he was a young boy. He has grown into a young man, confident in the lands of Yellowstone and a proven warrior, raised by the natives. When Cameron sees Riley being held captive, he knows from her footwear and glasses that she is not of this time. He must speak to her and save her. Cameron also knows he must help Riley return to her time so no one else suffers by the Sky People's interference with time travel.
What follows is a beautiful love story between Cameahwait (Cameron) and Riley as he helps her gain confidence, strength, and maturity. Riley helps Cameron reconcile his past and discover his future. The process of growth is difficult, as they know that ultimately, Riley must return and Cameron must stay in this time with his adopted people. This book also explores more of the Sky People and their role in time travel.
This story grabbed me and threw me into the depths of Yellowstone with Riley. I felt her pain, laughed at her clumsiness, cried at her losses and cheered for her successes. Peggy has the talent to make this reader run the proverbial gauntlet with the variety of emotions she evokes and the feeling of accomplishment that comes after reading "The End".
I couldn't wait until I had this book in my hands to read. Knowing how much I loved all the other books in this series, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. This is an awesome book and one I will read again just as I have the other five in this series and seeing how fast I read it, I plan on snuggling up with it again in a few days. I love Cameahwait and Riley, I love their story and all the twist and turns and surprises in this book. I won't write what the book is about, that has been written beautifully by other reviewers. But with so much suspense, danger, humor and romance, this book just flowed along and before you knew it, it's long after bedtime, but who cares, you can't stop in the middle of what's happening, maybe just another page or two... Peggy L. Henderson is my favorite author and I buy everything she writes because I know I am in for an adventure and at the end, happy tears and awe for a well written story that pulls you in from the very beginning until the very end. I am looking so forward to the next one in this wonderful series. As a added note, Yellowstone Heart Song, the very first book in the series, is free to get you started on this wonderful time travel series. It also happens to be my very favorite book of all time. Sexual content. JudyE
I loved Origins just like all the other Yellowstone books. If you haven't read any of Peggy Henderson's writing I recommend them. Get that cup of coffee or glass of wine and start with Yellowstone Heart song. You will soon be hooked ! Seriously , Peggy is one of the best authors we have today.
The book is well written, but was kind of boring until 3/4 way thru. I've signed up for newsletters from this author, but didn't know about this book till I looked her up on Amazon to see if there were any other books from her. I found this one. Seemed odd to read this now after all the others. Since they are the beginning of all the others.
This is an amazing series!! This book was wonderful explaining how everything started!! I so look forward to reading the next book. This series is so worth reading!
I love this series. However this book felt rushed and did not feel there was as much character development as in previous ones. It did clear up some questions only to add a few more. Over all a good read.
Loved this installment in the series! I thought it was better developed than a couple of the others in the series. Thought it was interesting to have some backstory so late in the series! Filled in some holes but left some open too! Can't wait for the next book!
Peggy L. Henderson outdid herself again!! You are the best author ever! I LOVE all your books!! AND EACH ONE GETS BETTER!! Please never stop writing!!!
Great adventure continues with reading, in sequence, The Yellowstone Romance Series, Teton Romance Series, And Wilderness Brides Series. This book was a favorite.
