I was originally going to rate 3 stars as a pleasant, quick, and informative little book for introducing children to werewolves through the lens of a nice classic movie and the sources for it!

Then it kept going, tick by tick.

Want to explain to your kids about a dad caning his werewolf son to death? Want to explain to your kids what poaching dead wolves (pictured here) is? Want to explain to your kids what the last sentence means about Rom people being killed by persecution in the Holocaust?

Why… what… why? Minnesota children in 1990, were you that toughened to the world??

So no I can’t give this 3 stars.

4 stars for the sheer delighted, aghast bewilderment I felt finishing this and imagining reading it to younger me.

I really enjoyed this quick read. Everything about the fascinating topic in one single volume: The Story of the Wolf Man with great movie stills (Lon Chaney), werewolf legends in history, how to explain them, real wolves, wolves and people, the role of gypsies... many good photos and illustrations give you a great overview. Highly recommended!

This was a good book because it starts out telling a legend and story. It grabs you attention. Though the ending was not that impressive. It started getting boring because they started listing facts with no details.
