On the Market by Audrey Wick is the first book in the new contemporary romance The Texas BBQ Brothers series. While this is the first book in this series the town of Last Stand, Texas however has been featured in other romance series so the BBQ may be familiar to anyone having read other series but it’s not necessary to enjoy this one on it’s own.

In On the Market we have Valerie Perry who has been living in the city working as a organic food buyer and leads her own meatless healthy lifestyle. Valerie has just inherited her grandmother’s home in Last Stand and plans to take a two week vacation to fix it up to sell. However, after arriving in Last Stand Valerie finds herself continuously running into the oldest of the Hutchinson brothers who likes to go by Hutch. The two of them couldn’t be any more different but of course find themselves drawn to one another.

This was a sweet, clean romance with likable characters and that lovely small town charm. With On the Market being novella length and the looming two week deadline Valerie gives herself in the beginning I would warn you are going to find a quick pace within in case of preferring a slower building romance. For myself however I really enjoyed this one as it’s a good light hearted, one sitting read.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

A good small town sweet story

I enjoyed the town of Last Stand and the characters that call it home. The Hutchinson family and the barbeque business is fun and interesting. I like how Valerie learned she could belong there and was willing to invite Hutch to be part of her life. I would have liked something more permanent between the two at the end, but they are together so I'm going to imagine they have a long happy life.

Their sweet and saucy styles don’t mix, but can they both find the recipe to a happy future?
This is Valerie Perry and Hutch's story.
Valerie had heard commotion outside and glimpsed a couple of guys with power tools in the neighbor’s yard. She was headed to the front door to get a better look when a crash reverberated the windowpanes and doorframes of the bungalow with earthquake force. Valerie’s freshly brewed mug of coffee slipped from her fingers and collided with the tile floor. She winced as her bare legs stung with heat from the splash.
Swinging open the front door to sidestep the mess, she met the cause of the commotion head-on. She cinched her thigh-high bathrobe tightly as she prepared to confront trouble in the making.
“Sorry about that.” A man’s voice roared over the sound of a still-running chainsaw, hoisted above a felled tree, as he waved at her.
Hutch squared off with Cole across a table in the dining area of their family business. Hutchinson’s barbeque market may be an institution in Last Stand, Texas, but the way the brothers had been feuding lately made the restaurant’s interior seem more like a wrestling ring.
Cole splayed his hands wide, stretching each finger before slackening them enough to continue hammering his latest idea. “The entrance of this place is really the problem. If we reconfigure, we’ll be able to draw in more customers and create a positive first impression for everyone who walks into The Hut.”
Hutch pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing heavily as he fought to stay still in his seat. “This is a barbeque market, not a sunroom.”
On the Market by Audrey Wick is a 4 star book.

I was easily caught up in ON THE MARKET, the first story in The Texas BBQ Brothers series taking place in Last Stand, Texas (which is a small town community much like Tule’s Marietta, Montana slightly connecting line). Valerie is in Last Stand for a very short period of time while she gets the house she inherited from her grandmother ready to sell. Her life is back in the city, although memories of Last Stand are slowly returning. Her introduction to Hutch gave me a smile since that meeting involves a chainsaw. (I kid you not – *impish grin*) Soon the obvious attraction between the vegetarian, Valerie and the BBQ man, Hutch are difficult for them to ignore.

ON THE MARKET lays the groundwork for another slightly connecting series that all play out in the community of Last Stand, Texas. Hutch and Valerie’s story is novella length but it packs a powerful emotional punch as well as introduces us to more members of Last Stand. I liked the people I met in this first story. Hutch is refreshingly just himself. What you see is pretty much what you get, he doesn’t play games. Valerie is a bit more complex in that she may see the city as “home” she’s beginning to question the true meaning of that word as staying with Hutch becomes more and more of a temptation.

I had fun, and that is the whole point. I love a small town community and this group of individual series set in this Texas town is exactly the reading experience that I enjoy. If you love a small town romance, likable and believable characters and secondary characters who charm while waiting for their stories to be told — then you’d love ON THE MARKET. I’d not hesitate to recommend this story or the series to any Romance reader.

“On the Market” is a fun, clean “opposites attract” story. Valerie is a vegetarian and organic grocery buyer in San Antonio where she lives in an apartment. Hutch is co-owner of a BBQ eatery that has been in his family for three generations in the small town of Last Stand, Texas. Valerie has come to prepare for sale the house she inherited from her grandmother, a feat to be accomplished in two weeks and on a limited budget. Hutch enters the picture with a crash—of a tree he is felling in the neighbor's yard. The tree lands across Valerie's driveway, cracking the driveway and destroying her grandmother's antique roses. Valerie initially views Hutch as a “bumbling” tree-trimmer since he failed to tell her why he let the tree fall as it did. However, he does repair what he has damaged.

Hutch is revealed from the beginning as a man who cares about his family and its history, his hometown, doing the right thing, and tradition. However, he can place tradition over his relationship with his only sibling, brother Cole who is co-owner of the Hut. Hutch wants to maintain the status quo while Cole wants to modernize the business in certain areas, leaving them at odds.

In the beginning Valerie comes off a bit of a snob with no personal relationship or connection to family. As the story progresses, people in the small town, especially Hutch, come to help her with the task of fixing up the bungalow to make it sellable. Valerie's walls slowly start to come down in increments. The reason for her closed-off heart is revealed towards the end.

The balance of tension and the attraction between Hutch and Valerie keeps the storyline going. Hutch wants a relationship with Valerie, but her plan has always been to leave at the end of the two weeks to return to San Antonio, and Hutch is committed to the family BBQ business. Will they open their hearts to each other? Will Hutch and Cole resolve their differences?

A delightful read not to be missed!

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This was an enjoyable addition to the Last Stand books. It is nice to have some background on the family that owns the BBQ restaurant that was mentioned in some of the other books I’ve read. I always enjoy books with a plot that includes a family member inheriting a home they have visited in the past with some fond memories.

The book is the story of Valerie who inherited her grandmother’s house in Last Stand. Valerie has a job and apartment in San Antonio and plans to get the house fixed up and sell it so she can return to San Antonio. She meets Hutch or Bubba Hutchinson, whose family owns the BBQ restaurant, The Hut, when he is trimming the tree next door to her and it falls across her driveway. It damages her roses and cracks the stones. He invites her to his restaurant and makes plans to fix the flowers and driveway. He learns she is a vegetarian, which throws a meat lover like himself. His family is struggling a little with sales and there are issues with the brothers over adding new dishes and remodeling to stay afloat. He likes her but she has plans to leave as soon as she finishes fixing up the house and sells it. There are some surprises for all as the plots unfold about the restaurant, the relationship between Bubba and Valerie and Valerie’s plans. It is a fun read.

I normally don't read romance novels, but the name of Audrey Wick's Texas BBQs Brother's series made me smile. On the Market is the first book in the series and left me wanting to read Wick's next novel, Off the Market. This tasteful romance takes place in a small town where city girl, Valerie Perry returns to because her late grandmother left her with her home. She's itching to get back to the city, but as many may know, updating a property takes time. Hutch is a local boy in a similar situation who is poised to take over the family's barbecue restaurant with his brother, Cole. Hutch is charming, and Valerie can sometimes come off as a snob. Valerie's attitude makes the story realistic as you'd expect a city girl to think less of people in a small rural town. Throughout the whole book, I felt the moods and vibes between Hutch and Valerie. Wick writes very descriptively, especially when it came to speaking about the delicious Texas bbq. It was a quick read but that went along with the story too as Valerie wants to get out of town and back to her city life with a chunk of change from the sale of her grandmother's home. I appreciated how this romance novel was more about emotions than a physical relationship. Set in a conservative place like Texas, you would expect a gentleman to be cordial and Hutch is. Another aspect of this book that made it feel as though this was an experience you'd hear from your best gal pal. The cutest part of this book was the recipes that Wick includes at the end. The Hut's Barbeque sauce was delicious!

On The Market is a sweet, clean and lighthearted romance that showcases the importance of community and the meaning of home. The story follows Valerie, a woman from the city who has just inherited her grandmother’s house, and Hutch, the owner of a BBQ place in a small town in Texas. When they first meet, Valerie is annoyed by Hutch and is focused on selling the house as quickly as possible. But somewhere along the way, Valerie starts to see the charm of the small town, and Hutch’s charms as well. The unlikely couple grow closer while working on Valerie’s house, and Valerie must decide what’s most important in life - money and big city life, or connections and the sense of home that a close knit community brings.

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was charmed by this sweet book, and found the clean romance to be a refreshing change of pace. Though the relationship was at the forefront of the book, the setting was also a main character and it was touching to read about small town life. Overall, On The Market is a quick, sweet and endearing book.

On the Market by Audrey Wick

An incredibly sweet story about two total opposites, a barbecue pit master and a vegetarian. It just goes to show how love can be found in the most unexpected expected places.

When Valerie inherits her grandmother’s house in Last Stand, Texas, the only thing on her mind is selling it and heading back to San Antonio. But, spending time in the small town and making new friends, especially the handsome Hutch, who is one of the owners of The Hut, a popular BBQ joint in town, plans can change pretty quick.

Hutch fell for Valerie right away, but she kept giving off vibes that told him to walk away. She wasn’t like any other women he had ever met and he was intrigued by her. But Hutch wonders if he should he really invest his time in a relationship that had a time limit on it?

This was such a fun book to read. I laughed in parts, I felt sad and worried in other parts, but most of all, it enjoyed watching Valerie and Hutch fall in love. And let’s not forget about all the BBQ talk. I was hungry the entire time. I need some good Texas BBQ now. I can’t wait to read Cole’s story in the next installment in The Texas BBQ Brothers series.

Valerie Perry is only in town to fix up and sell her grandmother's home. She doesn't have time for distractions. Then a tree falls into her yard damaging some plants, narrowly missing her car and cracking the flagstone in her walkway. Thanks to some big, handsome man who shows up at her door to apologize and offer his help.

Bubba Hutchinson trying to help a friend when the tree they are felling needs to fall on the neighbors property in order to save the neighborhood dog, Nod. How can he explain to the pretty lady that a dog made him do it. She is feisty and sassy and he is attracted to her. He owns a BBQ restaurant and she is a vegetarian. There is no way these two could be attracted to each other. They are too different, right?

I read these books out of order. I read the 2nd book in this series first but I enjoyed both very much. The story was sweet, genuine and full of wonderful characters.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

Valerie has inherited her grandmother's home. She has decided to fix it up and sell it. She only has 2 weeks to get the job done. Enter Hutch. He and his brother own a barbecue restaurant and they are having creative differences. However, this does not keep him from Valerie once the sparks start to fly.

When Valerie is first introduced in this story. I was NOT a fan. She was very witchy to Hutch and I did not like it. However, as the story moves along, their relationship (of course) takes twists and turns. She becomes better but she does still keep her edginess. This makes for unique conversations between her and Hutch. They have some of the best banter sessions and they put a smile on your face!

This is a wonderful palate cleanser read. It has a lovely setting of Last Stand, Texas. The characters really keep you entertained. It is a solid, sweet romance that will leave you wanting more. I am looking forward to the second book in this series!

I received this novel from the author for a honest review.

On The Market is the first book I have read from Audrey Wick and it will not be the last. I loved her writing style! This story is about Valerie, a vegetarian who works as an organic food buyer, and Hutch, a third-generation BBQ restaurant owner. They meet very unconventionally and Valerie is not a Hutch fan at first. Eventually their relationship blossoms thanks to Hutch being nothing but himself. The problem is Valerie is only in Last Stand for two weeks - just long enough to renovate and sell her grandmother's house. Will Hutch be able to show her that Last Stand (and himself) are enough for city girl Valerie?

I thought this story was great. It was a quick read and very lighthearted. I loved Hutch and Valerie was also likable. This was a wonderful first book in the Texas BBQ Brothers series. I can't wait to read Cole's story next.

Well the book was ok at times it dragged for me and I do not think that I will continue the series it wasn't that good to me. Anyhoo we meet Valerie who has been given a house from her grandmother that passed away and she really didn't know much about her grandmother since she never spent much time with her and now she is in this small town trying to get it ready so she can go home to her real life in the city. She has given herself 2 weeks and she ends up meeting Hutch through a series of mishaps and he is instantly captivated with this woman. They start spending time together since he has to fix something he ruined and they start to develop a love affair and he is hoping that she stays..My favorite was Nod.

Another visit to my new favorite fictional town of Last Stand, Texas with On The Market by Audrey Wick. Valeria Perry is planning on a visit there too, nothing permanent as she readiest a home for sale. Of course, Hutch never plans to leave since he is third generation running The Hut BBQ Restaurant there in Last Stand..

Renovations, BBQ restaurants, falling trees, conflicting opinions, a two week deadline and strong pull of attraction are just part of this sweet romance. It has a quick pace with engaging characters who fit just right together in spite of their negative first meeting. A heartwarming story that makes the point that opposites can and sometimes do belong together.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Very cute, clean first book in a new series. Valerie and Hutch have a "meet cute" when he drops a tree onto her driveway. Valerie has inherited her grandmother's house in Last Stand and is in town for two weeks to get it ready for the market. Hutch's family owns the BBQ Hut. They keep running into each other, partly because he has to repair the damage the tree caused. There is a growing attraction between them that they know they can't act on with her leaving in 2 weeks. Then when Hutch asks her what home means to her it makes her question her life up to this moment. As the memories of the time she spent with her grandmother as a girl slowly return Valerie remembers how happy her grandmother was in that house. It makes her rethink her plan. But is the gentleman of cowboy enough to make her change her mind? Great afternoon read!

This is the first book in a new series based in Last Stand, Texas. If you have not had the joy of reading any books based in this wonderful fictional town based in the hill country of Texas let this be one to start your collection. In this book we get to meet a family we would see typically around the corner here just about anywhere... Yes I am in Texas myself. A BBQ family. BUT wait there is so much more than that... this family business has been handed to the two sons Hutch and Cole who don't exactly see eye to eye on running the business. In the mean time back at the smoker Hutch meets vegan Valerie who has inherited her grandma's house. Fate has a way of lending a hand when one least expects it. What you do when fate steps in is up to you. Hutch and Valerie are from two different worlds and cities but do have that snap, crackle and pop. So does this book and yes Last Stand!

On The Market was such a fun romance that will definitely make you smile. This sweet romance definitely worth checking out.

Valerie has inherited her grandmothers home in Last Stand, Texas and has an unusual encounter with BBQ restaurant owner Hutch. He has come out or help a friend take a tree down out of the yard of one of Valarie’s neighbors. It falls and ruins her grandmother’s prized rose bushes and cracks the walkway. Just when Valerie is trying to get the house up for sale since she has no intention in remaining in Last Stand.

On The Market is our now and is the first book in the Texas BBQ brothers series. I can’t wait to read the next one! This novel brought a smile to my face and definitely gave me thee vibes of one of those fun TV movies.

I enjoyed On the Market, a sweet contemporary small town romance set in Last Stand Texas. The story is filled with family and community themes and strongly emphasises heritage as hero Bubba Hutchinson learns how to promote and grow his family business while remaining true to his grandfather’s ideals. For heroine Valerie Perry, coming to Last Stand to prepare her grandmother’s house for sale is an eye opener and has her questioning everything about her way of life.
I found the characters in this story to be a bit flat and the pace a bit slow though it was still a sweet story. The big bonus for me was at the end where author Audrey Wick has included some fabulous recipes. They truly like this from a three star read to four stars.

Short, sweet romance based in a small town in Texas. The BBQ descriptions were fantastic and left me wanting to head to Mikeska's BBQ in Columbus, TX (my fave BBQ place!) I love stories about romance but really hate books that leave nothing to the imagination. Audrey Wick's style of character and plot development hit that sweet spot for me - being swept up in the characters' gradual realizations of their feelings for each other without feeling like the story or the details are too graphic. Loved this story, and it made me glad to have a cowboy of my own! Pairs well with a glass of sweet tea.

Ms Wick is a fairly new to me author, her first book in the The Texas BBQ Brothers series was a fine introduction of just what am amazing writer she is. I was immediately drawn into the story, identifying with the characters, and creating a solid emotional reaction to their individual stories. This is truly a feel good story, kept from being too touchy/feely with the delved into the emotional psyche of Hutch and Valerie. All in all, this is one story it’s easy to loose yourself in.

I loved the absolute sweetness of this book about Hutch and Valerie in Last Stand, TX. Hutch is an endearing person-no pretensions, just being himself. Valerie is rather lost between her life in San Antonio and her resurfacing memories of summers in Last Stand, determined to sell the house her grandmother left her and return to her “home.” Home is the operative word for the story. Is home where you live day to day or is it a bigger notion of belonging, of community and of love? Their back and forth play is adorable.

Fun story of big city girl comes to town to tie up some lose ends and meets small town boy, Hutch is co-owner of a family BBQ joint, he lives for the meat, is the charming small town handsome guy to catch the eye of the new woman in town, not just because he fells a tree in her yard and destroys a little property either. He notices chemistry between he and Valerie upon meeting, he pulls out his full charm and invites her to his family restaurant, he wants to show her his skills with his meat. Problem, Valerie is vegetarian. I found Hutch charming and funny, Valerie came across a little cold to me, it took me a long time to warm up to her but did enjoy the story to their HEA.

I thought this book was seriously such a cute read. I loved the togetherness of the small town in this book. I loved how Hutch wore his heart on his sleeved but also had this tough dude exterior to him as well. I liked how Valerie had this self discovery to her she worked hard to keep the goal she set but was also willing to face he new options as well. I liked that this was a good clean read. I have never read anything by this author and I can't wait to read more from her. This book was a quick read and you can't go wrong. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. On the Market by Audrey Wick is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last. It is the first book in her new series The Texas BBQ Brothers. This was a very sweet, fun and clean romance that will definitely make you smile. The characters were well defined and likable. I really enjoyed the small town charm. It was well written and a quick read. I loved reading this book and didn’t want to put it down. Ms. Wick wrote a wonderful story which drew me in, making me forget the world around me and did not let me go until I turned the last page. I highly recommend this book to other reader. The recipes at the end of the book were a very nice added bonus.

very old fashioned and boring

I found this book really tough going dragged in parts jumped forward in others. I also found the language used really old fashioned and cheesy and not in a good way. I thought the book had been written by a seventy year old! The brothers disagreements were juvenile and lingered over too much the heroine was dull and vapid and there was no chemistry between her and the ‘hero’ very predictable story ended up giving up halfway through and skimming the rest. Won’t be reading any other books in this series or by this author. Long story short I do not recommend.

Started good, then dragged with abrupt ending

This is a story about a woman who inherits her grandmothers house and is hell bent on fixing it up to sell. She doesn't expect to revisit memories of her grandmother or to run into a hot tree guy the cooks BBQ with his family. This story had a good plot but began to drag in the middle and an abrupt end. Not even an epilogue. It left you hanging. Ok read.

This is a sweet romance that started due to a dog named “Nod”. It was either hit the dog or the roses, Hutch “Bubba” chose the roses . It was a hard sell , but “Valerie “ came around.
This book is about putting down roots, not leaving, and for Hutch cooperation and a little give and take with his business partner Cole (his brother).

Audrey Wick has written of a clean, lovely romance between a country boy and city girl in a small mythical town. Their many differences but fierce attraction make for a cute story with believable scenes. The main character, Valerie, has a very sassy attitude that I loved. I recommend a visit to Last Stand, Texas, to meet the characters and prepare yourself for book #2 in this series.

A Real Man with Great Values

More than any other romances I have read recently, this one reminds me of my own home town and the great folks who live there. There are great characterizations, interesting plot, and mouth-watering descriptions, but a better editor who would have caught some of the misused and clumsy words.
