aka F.M. Meredith.

Marilyn Meredith is the author of over thirty published novels, including the award winning Deputy Tempe Crabtree mystery series and the under the name F. M. Meredith, the Rocky Bluff P.D. series. She borrows a lot from where she lives in the Southern Sierra for the town of Bear Creek and the surrounding area, including the nearby Tule River Indian Reservation.

For the Rocky Bluff P.D. series, she uses a lot she remembers from her time living on the coast, in a place much like Rocky Bluff.

She does like to remind everyone that she is writing fiction. Marilyn is a member of EPIC, three chapters of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, and on the board of the Public Safety Writers of America

River Spirits is a great addition to the Tempe Crabtree mystery series. I didn’t guess the outcome until the end because the array of suspects is varied and engaging. Readers will find this mystery proves a good story doesn't need gratuitous violence.

I like the way M. Meredith deals with multicultural settings and alternate beliefs with dignity and respect, but not sentimentality. The indigenous people, represented by the fictional people of the Bear Creek Reservation, must be pleased with Meredith’s depiction of them

This is the first Tempe Crabtree Mystery I have read and it will not be my last. The protagonist is a smart woman offering the attributes of patience and tolerance as well as insight and procedural know-how. Other engaging characters and a representation of the people on Bear Creek Reservation, throwing in a Hairy Man, Meredith presents a mystery until its very end—one that slowly quenches the thirst for mystery and a good read.

"River Spirits" by Marilyn Meredith is another great Tempe Crabtree mystery! The author kept me guessing until the very end. Who killed the male star in the film that was being shot on the Bear Creek Indian Reservation? Deputy Tempe Crabtree has a long list of suspects but solving the murder proves to be a difficult task.
I highly recommend this novel!

A quick, fun read with some interesting characters and situations. I appreciate the Native American aspects that are weaved throughout the story. It adds some depth to the otherwise silly premise of the Hairy Man.

I liked the basic story line of "River Spirits" but the characters were very stereotypical. A movie producer has brought his company to Bear Creek to film a movie on the Indian Reservation. The actors, actresses, and producers had terrible, condescending, rude attitudes. The assistants to those people were overworked and spoken to horribly. I just found it all to be rather superficial without really digging into the meat of the story.

A murder and Indian spirituality

In this story a bunch of Hollywood movie people work to make a movie at the Indian reservation. They are a bunch of thoroughly annoying folk. Tempe is assigned to investigate the murder of one of the movie's stars. Indian spirituality forms a major part of the story. I enjoyed reading this volume.

One of the Deputy Tempe Crabtree series, set in and around the Bear Creek Indian Reservation in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The reservation is allowing a low-budget movie to be shot on its land, and although the Indian Council has placed strict rules on where the filming can be done and when, the director has ideas of his own. After discovering about the local legend of the Hairy Man, a big foot-type creature, he quickly changes his script to include a hunt for the being. He decides the off-limit sacred places to be the best places for a sighting of the Hairy Man--but perhaps stirring the ancient spirits isn't such a good idea.

I really need to get busy and read this entire series. I've only read two so far, and they've both been really good reads. Cozy--if you're looking for a lot a violence and car chases, you won't find them here. But if you like mysteries that are character-centered, look no further. Well-plotted, a delight to read.

A movie company has come to Bear Creek Indian Reservation, and murder arrives with it. Deputy Tempe Crabtree is assigned to investigate because of her Indian heritage. Another wonderful mystery by a master writer, full of lots of suspects and motives. Highly recommended.
