What happens when you're worth more dead than alive? A decorated fighter pilot is lost in combat, and his death is used to inspire waves of fresh recruits. Recruits desperately needed to fight in the long-running war. Sam Willet is one such recruit, but she's different. Different because the missing hero is her brother, and Sam has questions. Questions nobody wants asked. Questions that will probably get her killed.Raiders is a complete, standalone novel in the Secret War series.Simon Haynes has been writing fiction for over twenty years. I don't do book reviews like you keep seeing, as I find that some give too much of the plot away and I personally hate that, as it makes the book not worth reading. I much prefer to take the authors back cover write up as a review as it can either intrigue you enough to read the book of provide you enough information to make you decide that the book is not for you. My review rules are: The more stars, the more I liked it. If there are too many typos or errors the less stars I give If the storyline or plot is poor or contains too many errors, the characters are too weak, the ending lacking something, then the less stars I give. Simple, uncomplicated and to the point without giving anything away. Some of the books I read have been given to me by the author as a pre-release copy and this does not bias my reviews in any way
Lots of action and space battles in this book. The characters were ok but didn’t really have much depth or background. On that front I’d say that the robot character kind of stole the show. The story was decently written but again, really lacked in depth and world building. There’s a war going on but not much explanation of wherefore’s or the why’s. And while I don’t mind a stretch of luck or pushing the limits of plausibility this book just takes it a bit too far (in my opinion).
I obviously am not in the target demographic for this e-book. I think it is aimed at preteens raised on comics and cartoons. It started out okay, then slid into mediocre, then got worse. IT is possible that the author missed a couple of cliches however I won't swear to that. Two stars for grammar and spelling.
What an excellent story. This is an energetic, action-packed tale which allows barely enough time to breath as author Haynes takes you on a galactic ride with afterburners engaged.
If you like any of Simon's books, you'll like this. I've read everything bar the "Riddle" series, which is next up, and they are all enjoyable to read and keep you engaged. In escapism. And you can't ask for more than that these days, can you...
Fast pace good reading. Problem is the heroin is way far too spectacular. No one else can be even nearly as Lucky and perfect. Story does carry you on and Is quite gripping. Back now to detective/ thrillers.
